Your commissons
Post by skitch on Jan 17, 2008, 12:59pm

Starbolt calls the team down for a status briefing in his office. It is definitely mandatory to attend.

«If you don't make it here when I'm here, no big deal, just read the information I'll be posting here. I am planning on keeping this thread fairly active until Monday.

This thread has some important rules:

1) The rankings you guys hold (and will hold in the future) are just plot points. No one is allowed to argue with where they are ranked (or will be ranked) OOC. In character, of course, you can argue

2) Don't overdo it. Yes, you might have a higher rank then someone else, but if you use that to force other players to act against their will or use it as an ego trip, you'll be booted from the team. Same goes for lower ranks. I don't want to see nasty OOC jealousy or anything like that. In character it's fine, of course »

« Sigh… I want to say Alyssa would argue her rank, beacuse it would give me something to do, but she honestly woulden't care a bit. »

I show up, looking bored.

Amaltheia slinks into the room with a strangely self-satisfied expression.

Re: Your commissons

Well woo frea-diddly-eaking hoo. Another briefing. That's something like eighty million billion in three days. I'm barely gonna be able to get fed these days what with all these briefings. They're cutting into my potato time. And a man's gotta eat a man's potatoes.

Wonder if my woman will at least be around. It'll be fun groping her.

Plus the whole "missing her" part. But nobody has to hear about that.

Re: Your commissons
Post by skitch on Jan 17, 2008, 1:36pm

Starbolt says, "Good morning. All right, first some sad news. Fang has apparently left the team. I'm hoping this was just a Suka outburst, but there's a good chance it's a permanent thing. He was a good ally, and will definitely be sorely missed."

Liar.

Re: Your commissons

Amaltheia, of course, will not be missing him; aside from missing the possible opportunity of popping his eyes out of the back of his skull. But there's no need for her to say as much.

"Oh… what a shame," she responds with feigned sincerity.

Re: Your commissons
Post by Doctor blackmore on Jan 17, 2008, 1:39pm

I walk in, leaping on Tank's back from behind and wrapping my arms around his neck in a surprise embrace. "Greetings, my love." I kiss him on the cheek. "What have I missed?"

Re: Your commissons
Post by noodles2 on Jan 17, 2008, 1:43pm

I put my hands under her thighs and hold her on my back.

"Spider monkey took off, after the stoner wanted to squash some brood babies."

That's too bad. I didn't want to rip his head off. Not as much as half the freaks around here, at least.

Re: Your commissons
Post by skitch on Jan 17, 2008, 1:45pm

Starbolt clears his throat and continues, "General Vell contacted me this morning about your officer commissons. As of 1100 hours Hala Standard Time, you are now all officially Warrant Officers with all the rights and priviledges that comes along with that. Pretty much means you get to use the nicer dining room, and can boss around the uncommissoned crew members."

Re: Your commissons
Post by sephula on Jan 17, 2008, 1:54pm

"The distinction is one of reverence. Thank you, sir." Amaltheia opts for a salute in lieu of bowing.

Re: Your commissons
Post by sam on Jan 17, 2008, 1:56pm

"It's an honor sir."

I give a salute. Was never in the japaneese military, not a lot of bowing in Black Air.

Not that the title matters. I already bossed around the random crewmembers. I just threatened to throw them into a wall or something.

Re: Your commissons
Post by skitch on Jan 17, 2008, 1:57pm

Starbolt says, "Now. The problem. Our performance on New Kl'Tu was just…well…it sucked. I am going to need one of you to step up as field leader, which would require a promotion to Lieutenant."

Re: Your commissons
Post by xandar on Jan 17, 2008, 2:04pm

"I would be interested in the position, sir." There's something innately lucrative about an official level of superiority that appeals to Amaltheia's entirely self-involved nature. Of course, she's not about to tell Starbolt about that.

Re: Your commissons
Post by sam1 on Jan 17, 2008, 2:05pm

He has? Ungh…. I like Shaman, but I've got less desire to see him bossing me around.

"Is there any chance you could just apoint somone? Like a Kree?"

Re: Your commissons
Post by Doctor blackmore on Jan 17, 2008, 2:06pm

"I, too, would be interested in the position." Though I am not well-versed in the ways of a leader, I know a good deal of battle strategy - and, being honest, the thought of Malady leading us turns my stomach.

Re: Your commissons
Post by xandar on Jan 17, 2008, 2:07pm

Amaltheia actively has to keep herself from snickering when she hears Swan's proposition. She manages to keep a completely straight face - and even keep any indication of it from touching her expression - but only just.

Re: Your commissons

Re: Your commissons

Starbolt says, "Completely off the record. Does uncomfortable translate to 'I'll do everything possible to sabotage her if she's made leader'?"

Re: Your commissons
Post by sam1 on Jan 17, 2008, 2:25pm

"I've been in the military for 5 years sir. I don't go about sabotogeing every commander I have.

Just as long as we're all petty officers I thought you might want my opinion."

Re: Your commissons

"And it's a valued one, of course," Amaltheia intones with a sweet smile, the impression of all sincerity behind it.

Re: Your commissons

Starbolt holds up his hands, "I was just asking. There were plenty of members of the Guard I did not like working with. But, there were also those I could not work with. I appreciate your candor."

Re: Your commissons
Post by skitch on Jan 17, 2008, 2:34pm

Starbolt points out to Malady, "We've served together some time. I tend to value Alyssa's opinion. And she's saved my life…is it three times now? Hard to keep count."

Starbolt is just looking to knock some wind out of her sails.

Re: Your commissons

Re: Your commissons
Post by xandar on Jan 17, 2008, 2:46pm

Amaltheia glances at Moira and finds it even harder to keep a straight face than when Swan stepped up. Still, she manages.

"Sir, I'd have to state some discomfort at the notion of following an eight year old."

"Surely we had enough mindless flaunting of our talents when Nicolette was in charge."

Re: Your commissons
Post by xandar on Jan 17, 2008, 2:50pm

In truth, Amaltheia has no actual interest in the leading aspect of the situation itself. Just the level of superiority to the others. Though that's hardly to say that she believes herself incapable of the role.

And, on another level, to keep the arrogant little brat from getting it.

"Is that right?" she asks, fighting to keep from smirking.

Re: Your commissons
Post by Doctor blackmore on Jan 17, 2008, 2:50pm

I glance down at the little noticing her for the first time - I have some apprehension about a little girl being on this team, much less a leader, but she seems assured of herself. A strong trait.

"I am sure you are as qualified as any of us." I extend my hand for a shake, not wanting to appear discourteous. At least, not as much as Malady. "I am Swanhilda Vanlaire, pleasured to meet you."

Re: Your commissons
Post by cheshire on Jan 17, 2008, 2:51pm

Moira smiles at Blind "Yes, but I came in late, so I have to catch up." Then she looks to Amaltheia "Yes, it is."

She shakes Swan's hand "Yes, a pleasure to meet you as well."

Re: Your commissons
Post by xandar on Jan 17, 2008, 2:55pm

"Well, I'm sure we'll see, sooner or later. And how far it gets you."

Then again, with what I've heard of what happened to all the leaders of this team, I'm tempted to let the little brat have the position.

Re: Your commissons

Shaman is leaning against the back wall, his lighter dancing about through his fingers.

"The kid is just a kid, she might have a good head, but she's a tactition. Not a leader. A leader needs to be able to stand on the front lines and call the shots as the action progresses. Down planetside I, the team's resident fucking stoner, somehow was the ONLY one to realize this. I took charge, and negative opinions be damned, people listened to me."

He tosses his lighter up and catches it.

"You need someone who not only wants to lead, but knows how to lead, and wants nothing more then for this entire mess of fucking people to get through this situation alive, you look towards me. If you want the command deck repainted with ponies, you look at the kid. And beyond that, who else is there? Swan I'd trust, but to be honest, there's really no one else."

He takes his pack of smokes out.

"And if you put me in charge, she'd be my second in command anyway."

«Sorry for missing the topic - I was out buying books. Can James still throw his hat in the ring?»

James had kept quiet the entire time, preferring not to get involved with the interpersonal conflicts of the other team members. He wasn't too choosy about who became leader, but as soon as the brat, Moira, started vying for leadership he felt his blood start to boil. He had horrible visions of what she would be like if she ever got power over the rest of the group. It would be "ick duty" for the duration of the civil war. James couldn't have that.

And considering that they're nothing more then over sized bugs, the fact that you're calling them fuzzy leads me to believe that you've mistaken them with kittens. Yes, kittens. The might Tank seems to think that bugs interested in using him as nothing more then a host for their vile offspring are fuzzy friends."

He blows the first cloud of smoke out.

"Tell you what, why don't you and the fucking Spider go cry over slaughtered Brood somewhere. I'll get you a small violin, and we can make it one giant pity party."

Ash

"Grow a pair, 'little man', or else it's going to be nobodys fault but your own when your own idiocy gets your body turned into a nest for those things."

He glances at his smoke and then back up.

"You know what, fuck it. I've said my piece, and if he wants to cry over dead Broodlings, let him. I'll be in my quarters."

And he leaves.

Shaman isn't too far off, well, not far enough away to keep him from creating a TK bubble in Tank's throat to choke him. Not enough to hurt him, not even enough to leave evidence, but enough to bring him to his knees at the very least.

And then back on the way to his room, leave the little baby bitching.

Amaltheia sighs as she slinks away from the room.

"I apologise on their behalf for this general… display, sir. I'm sure things will… clear up."

Quote:«You mean when Sara found herself in a place where all of her friends were ignoring her in favor of kissing the ass of someone who absolutely hated her and she swore that she would sooner quit the team then live in that arrangement?

I fail to see how this is anywhere close to similar, Shaman just has no tolerance for ignorance and that's more or less all that's been used as reasoning for why he shouldn't be in charge. He was, after all, one of two people that actually bothered to try and lead the team during the mission.

Everyone else sort of tried to do their own thing»

[I mean when Sara was going around pantsing people and then sticking bladed staffs at their throats, threatening to kill them >_>. Mostly when the situation was really only about Sara when she turned it into that…. But I'm not saying it's similar yet, I'm saying it has the potential to be.]

«In all fairness to myself, I had Amy egging me on both in and out of character about it.

I tried to reason why Sara would stick around in that situation and honestly couldn't find a single one, I told her, and she said "Well bye bye Sara then, the people have spoken, and Torrance is in charge"

So I had Sara haze her. Then it exploded. As I said at the time, I just wanted both characters to be on the team and everyone to be happy, but with Torrance as leader it would have never been able to happen»

[There hadn't really been any indication that Torrance would get the leader spot, though. Just about everyone was trying for it, and Amy had no say over who got it. It pretty much did just seem like Sara was saying that only one of them could stay there, and she ended up sticking a blade to her throat over it. Came off as more than silly, to be honest.]

«Keep in mind that when that whole leadership thing happened, I wound up spending a day of it in the hospital. So Sara over reacting is something that the board supposedly forgave me for months ago when I revealed that I had a kidney stone pushing through me and making me INCREDIBLY irritable.

Nice to know that it's still held against me though, very nice»

[I like Shaman, but when he spends half of the time sporting an 'I can crush your SOUL' complex and the other half dropping into a blubbering coma if those powers ever go away, he doesn't really scream leadership <_<]

[Wasn't that more of an IC thing? I'm sure he'd probably like to make another character, but just felt he couldn't use Fang in character in the scenario any more. I'm not sure why, but still. Space is more active than it's been in a while, it's a good team, it has loads of potential and you've got a great set-up for it. Things just… went weird yesterday for a bit. I'm sure it's all settled.]
