Space. The Final Frontier.

The Juber is visible in the distance, far enough that it seems almost tiny. On the other side lies a massive, silverish-purple nebula. The X-Patriots are in outer space, sitting in the cockpits of starfighters. The surroundings are really quite beautiful. The fighters themselves are gray and vaguely X-shaped, with the cockpits in the middle.

Starbolt is leading them from a fighter of his own, and explains through the comm.

"Most of you have only flown before in the training room's flight simulator, if even that. Normally, you'd have to get a lot more practice before they'd allow you out for the real thing, but I've always favored a more direct approach. You WILL learn faster here. The truth is, today's starfighters are so dumbed down, a child could fly one… though not very well. It still takes a lot of skill and practice to become a really GOOD pilot. I don't expect you to perform any miracles here, guys, but you're working in a field where you could really use some basic understanding of flying a fighter. It might come in handy and, you know, save your life.

"These ShadowStar-120 fighters are older models. They were replaced a few decades ago and mostly serve as training vessels now. They have all the necessary precautions to make sure you don't blow each other up. The weapons are disabled, of course, and you're outfitted with special magnetic fields that make sure you don't collide with each other. It won't protect you against, say, an asteroid. But we'll be staying in open space anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. Still, I want no fooling around while you're in them. Is that understood?"

"I gotta take a leak, what the hell am I supposed to do about that?" I shouted through the communicator.

It really was pretty cool. I remember looking around to see how much space I had in the cockpit, trying to figure out whether I could transform without destroying the whole fighter. I can't remember, what conclusion did I come to…?

"SO COOL!"

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:03am

"Tank, you can either hold it in or use the equipment provided under your seat…"

Under his seat, Tank would find a small hatch, inside of which is a device pump-like device that looks a lot like a vacuum cleaner.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Last Hero on Aug 29, 2007, 11:05am

Nicolette looks around her starcraft with slight disapproval. She had already done some studying about starfighter design, and while this model was a bit older and shabbier than she would have liked to fly, she still was able to control it pretty effortlessly.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Tank on Aug 29, 2007, 11:06am

"Uh…"

I pushed a button at random, and the machine started to make a horrifying grinding noise. I stashed it away back under the seat and decided to hold it in.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Kalvin "Apex" Richmond on Aug 29, 2007, 11:08am

Kalvin sits in his starfighter in silence.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:09am

Starbolt grumbles a little, noticing that no one actually answered him about understanding.

"We'll start with a few simple exercises…"

The fighters are controlled with two joystick-like steering columns. There are also a lot of complicated-looking screens and buttons before them.

"You'll all be computer-assisted, so you should fly without too many problems. Tank, try speeding up forwards and turn to the right at a ninety-degree angle."

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Tank on Aug 29, 2007, 11:12am

"Pff."

The weird griping noise I made was at being ordered to do something… But truth be told, I was getting too big a kick out of flying to mind it.

To do as he said, I decided to go big or go home. I pushed the joystick on the left all the way forward, and the joystick on the right all the way to the right. I wasn't actually sure which lever controlled what, but fuck it, I'm Tank.

Fang flies around weaving around other fighters. "P'ik…Tank in my sights…"

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:13am

"Madrock, also accelerate forwards and apply reverse thrusters to come to a complete halt."

"Apex, stay in place and turn 180 degrees."

"Prime… try doing a barrel roll."

"Fang, we get that you have experience. Do a triple-loop, upwards, downwards and upwards again."

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Kalvin "Apex" Richmond on Aug 29, 2007, 11:15am

Kalvin attempts to do as he's told, but given that he has no starfighter training…that may not work.

I hit the gas and try to do that reverse thing - also, I'm happy that someone called me by codename.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:16am

«The fighters have four engines. Each joystick controls the two on its side.»

Tank's fighter quickly accelerates forwards at top speed, but doesn't turn anywhere due to conflicting orders. He overshoots and ends up a long way away from the others.

Kara running.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:18am

Kalvin succeeds in making the fighter spin, but ends up at about 960 degrees, not 180.

Roxanne shoots forwards and comes to a halt. However, she doesn't quite let go of the 'brakes' in time and ends up moving backwards very slowly.

Fang kicks in teh after burners,"Ri'k…this is space. Give me a Mark III Scazuzu if you want an atmospheric fighter show. Wait whats that upwards downwards junk? Where'd you get your license? On the Spathi homeworld?"

He does the triple loop, and then barrel before pulling a high g turn around matching speed with Stardust except going in reverse right in front of him.

"Ghost, you can try following a course."

Her fighter's main screen gives her an overview of nearby space, with a course for her to follow marked in red. She has to fly as close to the specified path as she can.

Somewhere, Fox McCloud would be proud.

Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:22am

"Apex, we're learning here. If you did it wrong, try again, a little more carefully."

Fang, thanks to decades of flying experience, performs his maneuvers more of less perfectly.

Nicolette does… well. She does the barrel roll, but goes a little off course. She corrects it soon enough though.

"Ah… Well let's see."

After calming a bit, she studies the controls and begins to work them biting her lip. Eyes darting and absorbing all the information.

"These controls are simple enough…"

She starts the path.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:25am

Kalvin overshoots again, but just a little. He clearly does better than the first time.

Kara swerves a little clumsily here and there, but manages to follow the path well enough.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:26am

Suddenly, some of the screens in all fighters flash red. The computers involves the pilots they're receiving a distress call.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Last Hero on Aug 29, 2007, 11:26am

Nicolette hopes no one else noticed that slight misstep. Of all people, Rapt came to mind. As much as she hated to admit it, Rapt was the best pilot among them, and this would have been right up his alley. She felt a smug joy in the fact he wasn't here.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Joshua/Darya/Kara/Marcus on Aug 29, 2007, 11:27am

Then distress call.

Kara takes the call.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:32am

"Not so fast, Prime… Let's look into it a little."

If anyone chooses to accept the communique, they'll hear the following (heavily distorted) message: "Imperial… star… caught… nebula. Energy… have no hope… web." The viewscreen is just snow.

Starbolt (and Fang) don't get any information on the source. The message definitely comes from the nearby Ara-Tum nebula though.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.

"A nebula…" mutters Starbolt, "Well, look outside. The large, gray thing in the distance is the Ara-Tum nebula. The signal's coming from it. It's several light years in diameter, but the emergency signal seems to come from the nearby edge."

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 11:38am

Starbolt hesitates before answering.

"The Juber is the only ship nearby. It's probably best if it handled the rescue, you're not experienced enough. The Ara-Tum nebula is largely investigated, since it heavily disrupts sensors and communications. But it's supposed to be empty…"

"I'm an officer of the Imperial Navy, Fang. No, I have not."

Fang fails. The systems require a vocal activation code by Starbolt.

They pass by the Juber, Starbolt notifies it of their intentions, and they move closer to the nebula…

Immediately, the scanners give out and communications become a little blurred. There are lag times between messages. Starbolts orders them to slow down and fly closer to each other. Visibility is horrid.

Fang pulls away and passes by the object. The others catch his message and manage to swerve as well, some more closely than others.

The object… appears to be a space rock. It's black, and curiously a lot more spherical than any natural space rock has any right to be. If anyone would fly closer, they'd see glyphs etched into the sides. Also, the rock appears to move FORWARDS slowly…

"It's not the source of the emergency signal," announces Starbolt.

After barely getting out of the way.

"Whoah."

Kara looks at the globe.

And suddenly something's happening.

Giant amounts of visual information overflows her senses suddenly she's finding herself examing the globe at an atomic, sub-atomic level, able to analyze it's composition.

The gylths she searches her memory for what they could mean.

She also starts seeing bits and pieces of the past, what happened before.

«This could very well be my last mission, so powers awaken.»

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 29, 2007, 12:12pm

Roxanne grossly misjudges the shape and size of the object, and thus ends up flying inside it, not through it. She manages to soften her crash with her powers, so her fighter remains unharmed. However, the ship comes to a screeching halt inside a cavern within the rock…

Kara suddenly knows that the space rock is artificial. Someone built it. She can see a series of tunnels inside it, leading to a large central chamber with something inside it. The glyphs… she's not sure, but they seem to say something to the tune of "STAY AWAY!"

For the record, there is no air. Anyone wants to go outside, they'll have to get a space suit (which are provided in the fighters).

Roxanne does start up her engines, but she gives it a little too much gas and goes the wrong way - the ship does a 360 and hits its nose, slamming her head first into the control panel. Out she goes.

The pillar of light at the center of the room turns red. Kalvin and Tank hear thumping from the corridors around the chamber, and see that the statues have come alive and are marching closer to them. Their intentions don't seem friendly…

Kara suddenly loses control of the ship and swerves towards the web - it's pulling her towards itself. Her ship touches it and immediately loses power. Kara is instantly paralyzed and knocked out. She wakes up hovering in a pitch black space. There's a voice behind her…

"Who are you, girl?"

At the same time, Fang comes face to face with another spider… It's a little smaller than his fighter. It looks at him for a moment before screeching soundlessly and jumping at Fang's ship.

NOTE: DUE TO REASONS OF PRACTICALITY, THE SPACE ROCK SECTION OF THE MISSION WILL BE FINISHED TODAY. PARTICIPANTS: Protoman AND Dean Cain.

Recap:

On a rescue mission in the Ara-Tum nebula, the X-Patriots were sidetracked by a mysterious black space rock in their path. While everyone else quickly left on their way, Tank and Apex strayed away to explore… They found a large chamber with a floating sphere inside it. After pushing a few buttons on a panel, they found themselves face to face with an army of stone statues…

Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 30, 2007, 10:51am

Kalvin can't see his-button mashing having any direct effect… but things do seem to get more heated. The red light in which the sphere is hovering starts blinking. A loud voice rings out from somewhere, but it's such an incomprehensible alien tongue that even the universal translators can't translate it.

The statues surround Kalvin and Tank.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Tank on Aug 30, 2007, 10:54am

Well, at this point it looked like go time. If these statues did anything that even looked like it was aggressive, I got ready to transform myself, and throw the penis headed jerkoff who got me killed all the way to the fighters, before I suffocated from destroying my suit. I mean, at the time it seemed like either he got out of there, or we both got killed.

And hey, best case scenario, he kills these bastards after they feasted on my corpse.

The voice seems to be counting down… After the final completely incomprehensible digit, the voice falls silent and the statues step closer in unity. They brandish vaguely scythe-like weapons. It's an attack.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 30, 2007, 11:00am

Tank grabs Kalvin out of the way of an incoming slash and throws him over the heads of the statues. He smacks down to the ground very painfully, but nothing seems to be broken. While most statues are concentrated around the sphere, there are still a few arriving from the corridors.

Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 30, 2007, 11:04am

The surroundings are completely bare except for the statues, but Kalvin sees the tunnel he hopes was the one they came through before him. There's a statue before him to get past though.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 30, 2007, 11:06am

The rock console breaks quickly, with a few sparks. And… it works. All the statues stop moving for a split second and immediately break off their attack. They all rush past Kalvin and Tank to surround the black sphere in the middle of the room, holding their weapons prepared.

A large crack appears in the sphere, and it gets bigger by the second.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 30, 2007, 11:13am

Something happens, but not as a result of Tank's actions. He breaks several statues - but the rest ignore him. Suddenly, the sphere breaks into a pieces like an eggshell… and the pieces get sucked inside one by one. A black, vaguely humanoid creature is revealed, at least three times bigger than Tank. It has a mouth at the center of it's chest…

The statues raise their weapons like one man. A few of them get some ineffectual hits in, but one of them is sucked straight into the creature's mouth. The others start following…

Tank passes out before reaching the creature - a fact that possibly saves his life - and immediately reverts to human form. The creature finishes up the statues… Kalvin notices that it seems to get bigger with every eaten bit. He manages to pick up the human Tank and sling him over his shoulder.

Kalvin can thank his lucky stars for his work-outs. He's strong enough to carry Tank's prone form and still run. He heads for the tunnel they came through. It's not an impossibly long way to the cavern where the ships are…

The creature follows, sucking in parts of the walls at the same time.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Kalvin "Apex" Richmond on Aug 30, 2007, 11:27am

Run run run run run run run run run!

Assuming Kalvin reaches the ships, he's going to leave Tank's ship there and load him into his own with him. Then he'll take off, yep, that seems like the best idea!

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 30, 2007, 11:30am

A wise choice. Kalvin gets both of them into his fighter, which starts some kind of medical process with his companion. Tank is impossibly lucky. A human being can survive about 90 seconds in a vacuum without permanent damage, if he doesn't try to hold his breath. Tank's stone form saved him from his internal pressure while the air was there, and his human form saved him when he was out of air. He'll live.

Kalvin realizes he's not quite sure how to start the ship…

…to resist the pressure of the creature arriving. The entrance of the tunnel breaks up and disappears as the creature enters the cavern, not significantly bigger than before. Tank's ship is pulled towards it and is consumed. The creature moves closer…

But they're not safe yet… Looking back, he can see that - amazingly - the creature is following them. It moves through space, now the size of a whale, it's gaping mouth sucking in the particles of the nebula hungrily…

Through the pain and ringing in his head, Tank realizes he can't hear anything.

She doesn't have her form of cosmic energy, but an appearance she strongly suspects to be her real look, from before her death. Starbolt releases Roxanne's fighter. There's enough rocky debris in the vicinity to create a Golem… but it's all attached to the Web, and Roxanne can't pull hard enough to get it loose.

"Hold on, I'll activate your weapon systems," says Starbolt, and says a voice-code that enables the fighters' weaponry.

Hey, looks like Nadia is here as well! Go figure. A spider lands on her windshield. It's completely black, with a small body covered with eyes and long, curved limbs. It looks through the glass at the fleshy innards (e.g. Nadia) inquisitively.

More and more spiders are crawling towards them on the web. Roxanne isn't a very good shot, however. Nearly all of her shots miss, though she does manage to squash a few of the spiders. Which attracts their attention… They start jumping towards her from the web.

"We have to free Shadowstar and and Ghost and get out of here!" declares Starbolt, and carefully starts taking potshots at the spiders attacking Fang and Maxwell's Demon.

I stare back at the spider, catching my reflection eight times within its eyes. I give it a tentative "Hiya" wave, before seriously wishing the weapons were active. Or that I could do anything to it with my powers through the ship.

"I really wish I had the opportunity to do this during training so that my first attempt wasn't under duress…"

Alright, here goes nothing. I use contact with the ships controls to take a semi technorganic form and try to interface with the ship for more direct control. Assuming success, I'll go into a barrel roll, trying to shake the spider.

"This web didn't create itself. It was woven. What the spiders are, I cannot tell. I've never seen anything like them before, something that could create anything like the Web…"

He glances around, as if expecting more people to pop in any second.

"I'm not a hero, I'm a soldier. I've only done my duty, but it's over now. I can't do anything. I just don't understand why the spiders haven't finished me in all this time… Perhaps because of my appearance…"

"Like I said, we'll save you geez."

She casts a worrisome glance.

"But those spiders, are they… aggressive?"

Roxanne manages to fire missiles. They shoot forward and hit the ship's hull. It's worth noting that the ship's lights were still lit… meaning it has an active energy source. Roxanne realizes that it still had a reactor, and it's now about to explode. So… she's now on a collision course with a soon-to-be ball of fire.

Shadowstar grumbles.
"Sharra and K'ythri, are they aggressive? I am the best ship in the Shi'ar fleet, and I couldn't destroy them. They're weak, but vicious. And there are many of them. And there's the mother…"

Success. The ship feels like an extension of my body. Pulling up, down, right, left… natural as moving an arm. Feeling a little… off though. No matter. The mission. The team. I hang right and head for the web. I fire at the web itself, around Kara's ship.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:19pm

Shadowstar shakes his head.
"Nothing I tell you will be of any use, you should realize that by now. The brood mother - at least that's what I assumed it was - is the creator of the web. The spiders, each bigger than ten of you or me, are tiny compared to it. If only I was free… I could have destroyed her."

—-

Nadia's shots, though extremely precise, don't hit their marks. They're blocked by the mass of spiders between her and her target. There's so many of them that the glow of the web is hardly visible behind them - and they start jumping towards her.

Meanwhile, Fang and Maxwell's Demon are involved in battles of their own, assisted by Starbolt…

Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:20pm

Roxanne finds that simply changing course works much better than mashing buttons. She pulls away and passes by the wreck safely - and comes under attack by more spiders. One of them lands on the back of her fighter, and seems to be trying to get in.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Joshua/Darya/Kara/Marcus on Aug 31, 2007, 12:23pm

"Well we have to give it a fighting shot!"

She clutches her head.

"Ah… this is a waste of time, for all I know they could be attacked. Talk to you later."

She tries waking herself.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Nadia "Osmosis Lass" Johansson on Aug 31, 2007, 12:24pm

Damn. So many of them that the attack is ineffective. Perhaps the missles…

"I could use some help…please…"

Roxy. I reverse as the spiders head towards to me, blasting the spiders as they leap towards me, and take off towards her. She seems to have gotten away from the wreck alright, but has a spider occupying her back - I take aim and fire at it to blast it off of her ship.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:24pm

"No, wait…"

Kara wakes up. She's back to normal, and stuck on the Web near Shadowstar. The wreck Roxanne accidentally set to explode is nearby as well…

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:25pm

Nadia manages to fire the spider off Roxanne's back with pinpoint accuracy.

"Oh."

In the thick of battle.

She tries turning on the jets, knowing that they'll be useless. Gotta give it a shot though.

That… looks like it's going to explode… Ah… crap…

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:29pm

Kara is correct. The thrusters have no effect.

And she's also correct about the explosion… The wreck breaks into pieces, with a brief flash of blue light, and Kara is free… The explosion rips a large section of the Web, including the area with her and Shadowstar, into pieces. Unfortunately, her ship is damaged. A normal human would have to worry about surviving with the broken 'windshield', but Kara does all right. More worryingly, the screens of her fighter begin flickering.

Shadowstar hovers motionlessly…

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Joshua/Darya/Kara/Marcus on Aug 31, 2007, 12:32pm

"Ah… that flickering does not look good…"

In the meantime she tries to get her cockpit to open, maybe fire some blast manually at spiders.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:33pm

There's not much of a problem accessing outside. Kara does blast a few spiders, but there are so many of them that there's next to no effect.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 31, 2007, 12:35pm

"Thanks, Nadia!" I double back and head beside her, making sure we stay close. "Are you all right? Sorry I was out…"

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:35pm

Shit hits the fan. The destruction of the web seems to have attracted the attention of the Mother… A large shadow passes over the group, and an impossibly large spider crawls into view, as it moves closer on the web. It's larger than many capital ships… and it's back is covered with many more small spiders.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Nadia "Osmosis Lass" Johansson on Aug 31, 2007, 12:38pm

"Well I was alright." I look up at the gigantic spider. "Not totally sure that will be true a few minutes from now."

I unload a few missles at the Mother Spider's eyes… our chances improve if it has been blinded.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:40pm

The Mother Spider's eyes are literally too big for the missiles to have any effect. It's like throwing a shoe at a wall. And it has many of them, as well… Still, it moves slowly and is still a little way off…

"Retreat!", yells Starbolt, "Grab Shadowstar and everyone else that can't fly and get the hell out of here!"

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.

Ghost tries activating the thrusters, meanwhile firing energy blasts a the giant motherfucking spider!

As the ship continues taking care of Tank, Kalvin flies towards what appears to be an explosion…and a really fucking big spider. The…thing is still behind him. He keeps moving towards it, of course his weapons still aren't working.

Still trying to activate thrusters.

"Come on… come on…"

No air, can hear.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Nadia "Osmosis Lass" Johansson on Aug 31, 2007, 12:47pm

I launch a tow line to grab a hold of Shadowstar's ship… or perhaps just Shadowstar, since he is the ship. Either way, I attach the line and get moving.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:47pm

Kara gets her thrusters to work. Well… three of four, at least. It's good enough to let her fly, more or less.

The Omniphagus is starting to be visible in the distance…

Starbolt, Maxwell's Demon and Fang form up, but wait for the others before flying off.

She looks at the eating thing then to the direction of Kalvin's and Tank's ships.

"YOU DID SOMETHING STUPID DIDN'T YOU?!"

No sound comes out.

"Oh sprock, this is sooooo clusterfucked."

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:52pm

The Omniphagus touches down. It shoots right past the team - clearing a path through the host of spiders in the process - and strikes the Mother Spider's body. It stops, before her legs start to curve inwards and the body starts to be sucked up…

"Oh, well thank god that we unleashed two giant monsters that'll kill each other."

She moves with the rest to regroup.

"I don't want to stick around to see who wins."

Kalvin follows suit and joins the group.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 12:56pm

The Mother Spider breaks up and is sucked into the Omniphagus. It takes quite a while, due to its massive size. Then, other spiders start to follow, then the net and the debris in it, then the nebula… The Omniphagus is getting bigger and bigger.

The team actually has trouble flying away, especially Ghost and Nadia, since the Omniphagus is pulling them backwards, but they're still moving forward…

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Joshua/Darya/Kara/Marcus on Aug 31, 2007, 1:00pm

"Oh hell."

Trying to get as much power into the boosters as possible, strapping her seatbelt.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 31, 2007, 1:00pm

I toss a few missiles at the Omniphag thing, trying to get it to let go of Nadia and Ghost.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by Nadia "Osmosis Lass" Johansson on Aug 31, 2007, 1:02pm

Dragging backwards… the cargo isn't helping much, I don't think.

I hunt through the fighter's systems through my link with it and reroute all power but that needed to maintain life support to my thrusters to peel away from the big black thing's pull.

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 1:03pm

The missiles get sucked right in, to no effect. After a moment, the pull loses much of it's strength, as the Omniphagus starts consuming itself… The team has just about enough time to get the hell away, before it returns, much stronger than before. All that remains of the Omniphagus is a black dot. The nebula and far-off parts of the web continue to fly into it as the team gets away…

Re: X-Patriots #21 - Shadows Dancing.
Post by BornIn1142 on Aug 31, 2007, 1:05pm

Everybody is safe. Tank seems to be deaf, but he's alive, just like everyone else. He lost his fighter, and Ghost and Maxwell's Demon damaged theirs. Shadowstar, although unresponsive, is saved. Starbolt is happy at the proceedings, joking about the 'Ara-Tum black hole' hat lies behind the team…

The X-Patriots get outside of the ever-shrinking nebula in a few minutes. Starbolt isn't so happy anymore.

"The Juber…" he frantically mutters, "It's gone!"

To be continued…
