Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 6:48am

Almost a month was too long to be in a coma…

She'd missed a lot of things to do in that time, and needed to work hard now to catch up on everything possible, as well as she could. She knew she'd spend a few days without sleeping - partly so she could put the time to better use and partly because, well, she was a little sick of sleeping.

One thing that was on her mind was the crew's view of what had happened. She had always made sure to get along well with them, but was now afraid being defeated like that would negatively affect their opinion of her… She supposed they'd might feel sympathetic, as well, but she honestly preferred respect to pity.

She had to make sure the crew was still on her side.

And for that purpose, she hovered into the Lounge just at the time when she knew it was the most crowded… She wanted a reaction.

The crew all turns to see her float in. There is some quick hushed whispering. Apparently, word hadn't trickled down to the crew yet that Nic was awake. The crew members mostly break out in applause. The only exception is Kurn…but Nic isn't really all that surprised. He does lift a hand in greeting to her, but quickly turns back to his drink.

Sandor walks over, "Nicollette! You're up and about? I knew the doctors would get this figured out! It is great to see you!!"

Nicolette smiled brilliantly, and tried to look a little flushed at the attention.
"Likewise, really. Though, I have to admit that it's great to see anyone right now."

Sandor makes a mock frown, "Oh sure, just anyone would be fine. Not like I'm special or anything!" He smiles, "The good news is your clumsy Terran hands did a terrific job helping to get the Juber up and running. The ships performing better than it did before the Brood wrecked it. We're thinking that we should destroy it every six months or so…."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 7:06am

"Oh, I really didn't do all that much. I just helped with some heavy lifting and transportation, the glory still belongs to the engineers. What about the ship's appearance. Does everything look shiny enough?"

Sandor nods, "Of course! You think I was going to let us leave the starbase if this place wasn't sparkling?"

K'Lar is snapping some pictures of Nic talking to Sandor.

J'nn comes over and says, "You Earthers never fail to impress me. Master Chef is cooking up some Earth food for dinner! He wasn't happy about it…he calls Earth the "culinary backwoods of the universe," but he decided to do it anyway."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 7:18am

"Hmm. Quite a lot of people seem to think that Terra sucks in general. I'm glad you feel differently, at least. Why's he cooking that?"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 7:25am

J'nn smiles, "I don't know. Maybe someone slipped him an Earth cookbook, and suggested it would make a nice way to celebrate…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 7:27am

"Celebrate what?" asked Nicolette innocently.

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 7:38am

J'nn's jaw drops. Sandor shakes his head, "She's trying to be modest, J'nn…don't let her fool you!"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 7:40am

"Modest?" said Nicolette with a pleasantly surprised expression, "Don't tell me it's for me! Whose idea was this, by the way? Someone deserves a hug."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 7:44am

Sandor says, "I'd like to take credit for it, but Kurn was the one who suggested it. Don't let the gruff exterior fool you, inside…well actually he's kind of gruff inside too."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 7:48am

Nicolette hovered over to the scientist with a smile.
"That's actually a pretty good idea. I haven't had Terran food in a while now. Thank you."

She gave him a quick, not-too-casual hug and hovered back to the others.
"Keep your head up!"

Kurn actually does smile slightly, "You're welcome. You have managed to keep me alive through three Broad attacks, you deserved some kind of dinner in your honor." That might be the longest sentence anyone has ever heard Kurn string together.

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 7:59am

"Well, I didn't do it for any kind of reward. Just want to make sure you understand…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 8:09am

Kurn shrugs his big shoulders, "Hey, I don't care why you did it. I'm just thankful that you did." Kurn returns to paying attention to his drink.

K'Lar slides next to Nic, "I was thinking about using a phoenix reference about you, but decided that was probably a bad idea. How's it feel being back from the dead?"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 8:13am

Nicolette turned to face K'lar.

"Oh, I wasn't dead, just uncomfortably close to it. To be honest, I mainly feel shame that I let myself to taken out like that. I shouldn't have let it happen. And I should point out that I don't feel nearly as strongly about the Phoenix as the Shi'ar. Foremost, it's still a mythological creature in my mind."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 8:20am

"True, but my columns usually go out across the empire," K'lar says, "I know you guys don't mind talking about the Phoenix all that much, but a lot of the Shi'ar aren't the same way. Just look at the D'Bari. They were almost more willing to be killed by Galactus than let Terrans rescue her."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 8:21am

"I understand that, but you wouldn't have publish any random comment to me, would you?"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 9:23am

K'Lar shakes his head, "Good point! You know, while you were gone, the X-Patriots were responsible for killing the traitor Hussar, and caused the death of Galactus's herald. What's your reaction to that?"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 10:29am

Nicolette couldn't really say, since she didn't know the general public's reactions.
"Well, I had heard about those things, but I'm not aware of the details. I'd have to say I'm a little proud…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 10:36am

K'lar says, "Even if it turns out that Hussar was not responsible for…well…what happend to you?"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 10:38am

"Then less so, of course."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Last Hero on Jul 30, 2007, 11:28am

K'Lar shakes his head, "She's still a traitor to the empire. I wouldn't shed too many tears for her…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 11:47am

"True, true. I don't, either. Looking at it positively, we won't have to worry about her in the future."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jul 30, 2007, 11:52am

K'lar laughes at that, "I will definitely be using that quote. It'll make a hell of a headline." K'lar stands next to Nic and waves his arm dramatically, "Can't you see them??"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 12:01pm

"Can't I see who?"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jul 30, 2007, 12:14pm

"THE MASSES OF SHI'AR CHEERING WHEN THEY READ THAT HEADLINE!"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 12:15pm

Nicolette smiled vaguely.
"What about the non-Shi'ar? Say, Hussar's species?"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jul 30, 2007, 12:46pm

K'lar's enthusiasm comes to a crashing halt, "Uhm…Well…I didn't think of that…"

Sandor and some of the other crew are chuckling at K'lar's sudden discomfit, "I mean…she's still a traitor. Her people understand that…I would think…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 12:48pm

"I can imagine that they've 'worshipped' her for years already. It must be hard to for them to understand - or accept - their hero suddenly changing her mind about her loyalties. Some of them might have been swayed by her. I'd like to think she didn't become a martyr, but who knows? I'd say it's important to be sympathetic towards her people, and keep friendly relations with them at this crucial stage. The handling of Hussar's death is an important part of that."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jul 30, 2007, 12:59pm

Sandor clears his throat, "Nicolette…this isn't the first time Hussar has turned her back on the Real Empress to side up with Deathbird. In fact, it wasn't even really a surprise to see Warstar, Neutron, and Hussar follow her…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 1:03pm

"Yes, I know. But this was a little more serious than that time, isn't it? Of course, pardon me, I don't know as much about the attitude of her homeworld as I'd like…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jul 30, 2007, 1:05pm

Sandor says, "Me either, to be honest. It's pretty far from the center of the Empire. I don't think I've even ever seen another of her race."

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 1:14pm

It would have been pretty easy for them to defect then, wouldn't it. But, no, that was just paranoid thinking… or was it?

"Strange, it seems that all conversations I've had recently turn to these unpleasant topics…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jul 30, 2007, 1:20pm

Sandor says, "Seems to be happening all over the ship. No matter what we talk about lately. eventually someone mentions the Kree, or Deathbird, or you two lying in a coma, and we all get depressed. Hopefully things will get a little lighter now that you seem to be doing much better…"

Re: Welcome back, princess…
Post by BornIn1142 on Jul 30, 2007, 1:22pm

Nicolette nodded.
"I'll be trying to cheer people up if I can. And I'm sure Rapt will wake up any time, too."
