Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 8:36am

The invitations have been sent out. All the New Mutants and Hellions have been allowed to participate. The mission parameters have been set.

Zephyr sits in the middle of the Danger Room, fiddling with a Rubix Cube, waiting for the others to show - even though he won't be participating for this one. 'Stairway to Hell' was all his idea, though; he'd been discussing a few things with Rogue, and the idea came up. Interesting little scenario…definitely enough to keep them busy, test their limits, etc, etc.

[Check in, speak up, you know the deal. I'll explain the mission's rules once there's a fair amount of people in.]

Marisol slowly loitered in, managing to make it look quite graceful. She headed straight for Zephyr.
"Hey," she said with a slight smile and began waiting.

"Hey, Marisol." I stuff the Rubix Cube in my pocket and stand up, waving back as she heads over. "Nice seeing you…but you might want to skip on this mission. It's going to be brutal…sure you're up for it?"

"I'm not scared," said Marisol firmly, "I can handle it…"

There we go, there's some of that confidence I was hoping she'd get. She's been a lot better about it lately, to "That's what I like to here. I'll be in the booth, so I'll pull the plug if anything gets too extreme. Just try not to kick too much ass, alright? Save some for the others."

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell

"Your idea's so tough you're afraid to take part?" wondered Marisol playfully.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 8:54am

"Pshaw, nothing of the sort. It was my idea, so I've got to manage; it's not the sort of simulation you can set and go. Besides, I want you guys to have some trouble with this. Having me around's just an unfair advantage." I shake my head in mock sorrow.

Marisol nodded lightly. "I'm sure it'll work out great."

Wreck wanders in as well.

"Wonder if this involves barbed wire."

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Risk on Feb 19, 2007, 10:34am

"Barbed… wire? Why would there be barbed wire?" I asked, tapping the sides of my kon and projecting the ends to full length.

«Yes. That's right. I have a telescopic, extendable kon .»

"Nope, no barbed wire." I shake my head, going back to fidgeting with the Rubix Cube. "It'll be tough, though. My prediction: PAIN."

"Pain's fine. Pretty sure we can all deal with pain," I said lightly.

"Oh?" I swung the kon down, sliding it off of one shoulder and further along the other. When it got to my joint, I tucked the opposite end behind my heel.

"I'm intrigued. Bring it on," I smiled.

I glanced at Wreck.

"We probably need to speak later."

Great. God forbid we have a nice, normal training mission for once. I really don't feel like dealing with this, but everyone will see if I just up and leave.

Pester crosses his arms and leans up against a wall.

Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 11:27am

I can feel a few daggers staring into me, so I figure I might as well reveal the basis on everything, at least. "The premise is actually simple, really: I'll be pitting you all against a series of villains. No gimmicks, no special little traps, not aiming to make you learn anything in particular, aside from the obvious. Every time you beat one bad guy, I give you another - harder than the last, of course. We keep going and going till everyone's had their fill."

"Alright." My voices booms out over the Danger Room, and the partition doors start to close on my command - or, rather, on Wildfire's command, since she's the one who's actually controlling the settings. Much better at it than me, it seems. "Showtime. Get ready folks."

The environment changes, and the group finds themselves in the middle of your average New York City street. People walking all along the sidewalks, heavy traffic, the occasional profanity flying through the air. Everything you'd expect.

But then they here the sounded of great impact. Boom. Boom. BOOM. Heavy footsteps, and screams in the distance. A hoard of people pour out from the corner, screaming, running for their lives, and the source of their fears comes out right behind them, looming high in the air, staring down on his hapless victims without remorse.

First Opponent: !STILT-MAN!

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Risk on Feb 19, 2007, 12:56pm

"Are you serious?"

I snapped my kon to it's shortest length and threw it at Stilt Man's 'face' as hard as I could, hopefully doing more than just crack the glass.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Marisol Morales on Feb 19, 2007, 12:56pm

Marisol stared at the looming figure for a moment. Of course, she didn't feel threatened… but she supposed he could be a threat for the people around.

She grew tall enough in height to match him and approached slowly, being careful in case her teammates suggested otherwise or anything.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 1:01pm

Surprisingly enough, Stilt-Man moves pretty fast; he dodges the kon easy. "What's this? They're bringing little kids to fight me now? Please! I'm the Stilt-Man, A-list! I'll teach you to-"

Marisol's sudden height increase catches him by surprise, and he steps back - destroying a Buick in the process. "Whoa, not so little." He increases in height, extending his legs high enough to step over her. "But nobody…uh…out-stilts the Stilt-Man!"

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Risk on Feb 19, 2007, 1:03pm

With a slight sigh I bound towards my kon and retrieved it.
In my current state I don't really have much that I can do to him…
I've still got my strength, but not that much can be done with that against someone this size.
I went over to the destroyed Buick and tried hurling it at Stilt-Man.

At the same time, she had to eye the car he had crushed. She hoped there weren't people inside…

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell

In a spot of bad luck, Marisol and Kidd's attacks don't work right together; Marisol winds up catching a good deal of the heat before she can do anything to his legs, and is forced to let go - shouldn't hurt her too much, but it'll sting like blazes. Stilt-Man's suits is actually quite well-made, so his legs don't melt, but the heat does travel up to him. Not insulted well.

"Hot! Hot! Too damn hot!" He starts to wobble around, screaming within his suit, and the auto assault from Sephula doesn't help; the car clips him in the head and he start to teeter and totter around, balancing on one leg.

((Because its an attempt to convey more 'enthusiasm' and 'excitement'. Its entirelly an affected joke.))

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 1:12pm

The sudden freeze to his leg, combined with the sudden increase in temperature thanks to Kidd, starts to take effect: The metal's creaking and cracking, and looks ready to break. "No…no…nonononononononono, don't fall, don't fall!"

He's loosing his balance about ready to go, but that crowd of people below him are in a precarious position.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Marisol Morales on Feb 19, 2007, 1:12pm

Marisol almost growled. It struck her as somewhat weird, as it would have been quite an un-normal thing to do even as a sort of beast. She still somehow felt it would convey the pain…

She gave Kidd the most accusing glance she could manage, rather certain she wouldn't even notice it. She didn't awfully get the impression that she cared at all.

She stretched out between the tilting Stilt-Man and the crowd, hoping to catch him.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Dillon Drummond on Feb 19, 2007, 1:13pm

"Oh you did not just insult Dragonball Z, that show is a freaking classic!" I yell, taking to the air and looking at Marisol apolegetically. I begin drawing electricity from near by buildings so that I can magnetize Stilty's legs.

I come back over the intercom. "Congratulations, first opponent down! Nice work. Though I could've done without the DBZ talk." I cough. "Besides, the Cell Saga was clearly the best arc of the entire show, in all respects. Moving on."

The team finds themselves standing on the Avenger's Mansion lawn all the sudden, right outside the center of all superheroism in the world. Beautiful site. Majestic. They don't have time to enjoy it.

A silver streak rips through the crowd all the sudden, striking them all at the speed of sound, punches all around. Not particularly hard, but that's to be expected, given the opponent.

"Kids these days." Quicksilver stops in front of the group, a sly smile on his face. "So slow."

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Marisol Morales on Feb 19, 2007, 1:24pm

Marisol kind of felt the punches. It wasn't pain, just an exaggerated version of what she felt from normal punches. She didn't really care.

She thought about moving to surround her teammates to protect them, but decided against it. They probably wouldn't want it anyway. Instead, she made a point of turning herself as sticky as possible, so Quicksilver would get stuck on her the next time he hit her. And she'd try to get a hold of her as soon as that happened…

I'd steal his kinetic energy, but he's just moving too damn fast. I could probably get a little, but it wouldn't help at all. Can't sense his body heat either. I. hate. speedsters.

Quicksilver dodges Sephula's kon easy, and moves through the blows, landing a jab hard on Sephula's chin - turns out this is the Quicksilver from around the time he could move at the speed of sound, making him marginally less lame than usual.

Those punches hurt. Nephy's not that used to people hitting her.

I could try to slow him down, but he's moving so fast it's impossible.

Nephy trys to grab Quicksilver with a giant hand, knowing it probably won't work.

Quicksilver does indeed slip and slide on the ice, crashing into a nearby tree as he moves - it would be a lot more advantageous if everyone didn't share the same disadvantage as he did, though, and Quicksilver's recovering quite quickly, having much experience with running into things at high speed.

[<_< Hm…I thin hijacking Iron Man's armor is a bit much. And it'd be overkill in the current situation, really. But you're thinking, I like that. ^_^]

Quicksilver manages to get to his feet and run off before Nephy can catch him, but she just barely misses; Quicksilver's still quite fast, but the ice is slowing him down greatly.

Marisol couldn't believe her eyes…
The ice shouldn't affect her. She had perfect balance, after all… She created a dozen tentacles and began pushing her teammates away from the flames… not falling behind herself, either.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell

Quicksilver feels the ground start to heat up, but it's not that big a deal - he simply runs up to the roof, taking the fight up there and kicking Wreck as he passes. He gets a nasty taste of the entropy field as he does, though, and his shriek can be heard as he turns into a blur again.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 1:42pm

The thing about Quicksilver is that his body works a lot differently from a normal human - it's actually designed for the speed he's capable of. So Sephula's attack doesn't quite work as well as it normal would; it slows Quicksilver down a little, but he's still fast enough to easily dodge through Marisol's tentacles. He makes a beeline for Kidd, but stops his charge the moment he feels the heat coming on. Instead of attacking head, he runs around her at high speed, knocking off pieces of the roof as he goes and throwing those pieces straight at her. Her heat field makes them burn before they hit her, too…painful.

I normally hate using this power against humans, but since this is just a hologram I'll let it slide.

Stay calm, Kidd. Keep your cool, Keep your cool.

"I'll fucking kill you!" I take off towards him, and lucky for me he's still throwing things. I still the kinetic energy from one of the shingles and increased my speed, tossing bolts of lighting at him as I go.

Marisol sighed mentally, and jumped back off the building again. She hadn't given up on her plan of trying to catch him. She created even more tentacles, to the point that she had to shrink herself a bit so she could have enough mass to work with.

Note to self: Do not throw flaming shingles at Kidd.

Pester's assault on Quicksilver works, though not quite as much thanks to his heightened reflexes. Still, it does slow him down to a quick walk, and he is drooling, and he's not able to dodge Kidd and Marisol's attacks like he'd normally do - the lightning strikes him from the front, Marisol's tentacles whip from the back, he goes down. Twitching.

"To simple." Wildfire shakes her head, holding the finished Rubix Cube - my finished Rubix Cube - in her lap. "Kidd or Lex would defeat him easily…it's time we upped the challenge."

The team finds themselves in the middle of an open field, surrounded by trees…well, not quite open. The area these boxes all over the field, boxes with a subtle humming sound coming from them, and in the distance they see a man running towards them. A skinny man. In a suit. Tripping over everything as he goes. "The bees! Not the bees!"

As stated, bees appear from the forest. MANY bees. And they're all taking a humanoid shape.

This time, Marisol didn't feel like being zapped by Kidd's inevitable electrical attack.

Lex manages to freeze and Kidd manages to burn some of the bees - but this is A LOT of bees, no joke, and they're smart, too. They move away from the area of freezing and make a beeline - sorry - for the holes in Marisol. Only a handful of them get in, but they all go straight for Lex, stinging him vigorously and making him quite glad this is all an illusion.

The bees don't take to well to being ineffective. More and more of them start to swarm around Nephy, actually breaking away their assault on the others and coming after her specifically. It gets so bad that her body isn't even visible anymore; she's completely covered in a huge, buzzing mass.

All right, clearly Marisol's strategy was useless. She decided to rethink.

She widened herself some more, until she was a very large, very thin wall. She was quick about it, and she'd let any of her team-mates caught in out, of course.

Nephy was still avoiding the the negative effects of the stings, but it really hurt! In desperation, she tried to crush all the bees around her by drooping a blood based wall on her and the surrounding bees, making sure when it turned soft at the spots it would hit her.

I'm still recovering from the bee stings, but I hear Pester.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell

Nephy's blood wall…thing is enough to keep the bees off of her, and Marisol's attempt to capture them works; with most of them swarming around Nephy, it's easy. Marisol allow Nephy to escape, and then has to deal with the mild irritation of holdings thousands and thousands of bees inside her body.

[Oh, born PMed me an idea. VERY good one, too. Think I'll use it.]

The ground finds themselves in the middle of a long, stretching walking, in the middle of a massive, sprawling, city - but not Earth. The buildings are odd, stilted structure; sturdier than anything they'd see back home, as if this planet was built with war in mind. The sky is darkened, and foreign moon looms over them. And that's not all.

A plume of fire erupts in front of them and a long arm stretches out of the flame, reaching incredible lengths and hitting Sephula in the face with incredible force. A cheap shot, courtesy of none other than…

"…the Super-Skrull." He appears out of the flames, recoiling his arm as it dissipates behind him, smiling ear-to-ear. "Welcome to my homeworld. Hope you like it. You're going to be here for a long time."

Marisol's attack strikes head on, but Super Skrull just use the part of him that's Mr. Fantastic to absorb the blows, his body bounces them off harmlessly.

"I don't think so, kid." The Super Skrull disappears, and Lex suddenly feels a tight constriction all around his body …but it doesn't last. Lex is hurled through the air a moment later, sent flying at high speeds.

Since Lex probably wasn't in a position to turn off his flames, she was ready to pull back and evade when it became necessary. She didn't doubt it would…

I struggle back up and start healing the damage. There’s not much I can do to him. I’m faster, sure, but that’s only when he isn’t flying. He’s about 70 tons worth stronger than me. He’s more durable by far. He’s pretty much better than me in every regard, probably even agility with Mr. Fantastic’s abilities. And I can’t really use my biokinesis other than to enhance myself.

I sighed internally.

Time to play the idiot, again. With nothing else to do, what else can I do?

Wait.

I bounded over to Kidd.

“Kidd, have you got a handle on his powers? I think that we need to restrict his movement – especially when he can turn invisible and can stretch like Mr. Fantastic. You’d probably think of this yourself, but me repeating your thoughts can’t hurt, can it? What do you think? Box him in with a few in invisible fields restricting him, and then maybe constricting it until he passes out?”

"Right behind you, girl."

Marisol feels the Super Skrulls arms wrap around her body from behind, invisibly constricting her with immense force, and they are EXTREMELY hot - he's going full throttle.

Meanwhile, Lex is in a lot of pain; he fell about thirty plus stories. Many broken bones, his shoulder's dislocated, and his leg is starting to bend in a direction it's not supposed to go.

[Keep in mind, this is all 'fake' damage - just like the time we swapped each other's powers, you can't actually die, just simulate it and come out fine in the real world. With that in mind, I'm going to start actively trying to kill you guys now - if you get kicked out, you can still watch, though. And, as said before NEW PLAYERS CAN DROP IN AT ANYTIME]

Two hammers and one might kick from Sephula - each attack finds its mark. Each attack is completely ineffectual. "Man, you kids just don't learn, do you?" He disappears again. "Wonder who's going to get the first lesson…you."

A pair of arms wrap themselves around Rapt's winds, slamming him hard into the ground, crashing on his back. To make matters worse, the Super Skrull starts pulling his wings apart, threatening to tear them clean - and he's still invisible.

Lex finds himself outside of the Danger Room's control bay, Zephyr looking down on him as he lays in a medical chair. The others are in similar chairs, lining the row. "Nice work, sorry if the simulation went a little hard on you. Wildfire wanted a challenge."

“Mar, stay back!”

Well, at least the attack got him off of her.

I ran over to Rapt. It was fairly obvious where the Super Skrull was, with what he was doing to Rapt. I judged my way along his arm and struck it as hard as I could where I thought the outside edge of his elbow joint was, and hoped that he had pressure points in the same places as humans.

If not, it would still render him unable to bend his arm for a little while - if I hit the right point…

"Oh…."

I don't want to hurt Sephula or Rapt… And I didn't even do anything to him…. I don't think I can do anything to him internaly…. What should I do….

Nephy settles for a sending a flying dagger toward where it appeared the Skrull's arm would be if he was grabbing Rapt.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 3:43pm

Torrance pops in just in time to see Sephula attacking an invisible Super Skrull; his kicks and strikes, strong as they are, don't do much against the Super Skrull's incredibly strong and stretchy hide, and he gets smacked away by an invisible tentacle.

"Don't worry, kid." Super Skrull really starts to pour the pressure on, and Rapt can feel his wings start to give. "It'll only hurt for a second…well, maybe longer. Who knows."

Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 19, 2007, 3:57pm

Zephyr nods Will's way. "Just sit and I'll start you up."

Meanwhile, back inside, Torrance's sonar succeeds in homing in on the Super Skrull's position, and she has the added luck of not being noticed yet - he's a little busy with Sephula and his heart attack.

"Nice try, kid, but you're going to have to try harder than that!" His words are cocky, but his labored breath is telling a different story - it's definitely having some effect. But he's still strong enough to pick wrap an invisible arm around Sephula, pick him up, and slam him down. Repeatedly.

Hnn… pretty sure I can’t take much more of this… times like this… biological empathy… thankful…

I managed to grasp onto my kon and I was pretty sure I knew where his eye was because of my biological empathy. I clicked the side and the blade came out of the tip, and then I clicked it again and it expanded to full length – straight into where I thought his eye was.

[…did you just quote Coolio, Dan? COOLIO? You will pay!]

Torment's muzzle works, at least partially; Super Skrull is so distracted by his breathing troubles that he becomes visible again, struggling to pull the muzzle off. His new fury has him getting desperate, though, and he sends out an array of fireballs, hitting random spots all over, striking anyone who doesn't make moves quick.

Rapt's still in the game, but every flap of his wings is going to hurt a bit, with the damage Super Skrull did to him.

Everyone else manages to dodge alright, except for Sephula, who's gets a nasty fireball in his chest - straight through his chest, actually, since he was so close. He hits the ground, a smoldering corpse, and disappears, waking up back in the waiting room.

Meanwhile, Super Skrull's had enough. He fights it, struggles, but he falls to his knees and passes out.

This time the group finds themselves back in New York City - but it's a lot worse than what it was during Stilt-Man's reign of terror. Cars are overturned. Windows are crash, glass is all over the place. Dead bodies, countless dead body's lie across the street…and very few of those bodies are in one pieces. The sky is a darkened red haze, as if the clouds themselves are bleeding.

"Lovely picture, isn't it?"

The group looks up to see none of than Carnage creeping out of a window, looking down on them his usual winning smile. "Pardon my mess, kids, but, well…I was never one for neatness."

"It's not all his fault, you know." Shriek descends from above them, hovering next to Carnage's creeping form. "I take a little responsibility for the mess, too. After all, Cletus was doing it, and it looked so fun…I just had to have a taste, you know. And then we had to let our boys join the fun.

A twisted, sideshow version of Spider-Man crawls out from one side of the building; six-arms, claws, tongue licking about - Doppleganger. A cackling, maniacal demon flies out from the other side of the buildings, pumpkin bombs in hand, looking like something straight from the pit - Demogoblin.

"Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, YES!" Carnage nods, his fingers growing into sharpened daggers. "I always love fighting mutants! You just never know what you might find inside…"

Believe it or not, Shriek can do the 'confront your darkness' trick, too, though I have no idea how it ties into her sonic-based powers. Theoretically, she could counter it.

Anyway, I'm back, but not too many are on…I'll check back every now and then, see how it swells.

[Sheesh…and I missed TWO missions! ;_; I really got to start staying up latenight. <_< Zephyr needs more exposure…

Anyway, if that's the case, I'll make it a point to stay up tonight and we can finish it then. BM's got his mission today, so I don't want to interfere.]

At least we can write Marisol back in, if Zephyr would pick up from her last line.»

[I can't write Marisol back in unfortunately; once you get kicked out, it's permanent. Otherwise we'd be potentially at this all day. Nicolette or Almond can hope in, though.]

[Which reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask: How does Marisol respond to sonic damage?]

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell
Post by Prime on Feb 20, 2007, 8:17am

«Good question. I've thought about it a little myself, and decided that it wouldn't actually hurt or damage her much, but would slow her down VERY effectively. Also, prolonged exposure (> 30 seconds or so) would probably make her lose her form.

For the record though, anything very low-tech like a flashbang grenade wouldn't have much of an effect.»

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell

[Nah, it's fine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but sonic blasts are really nothing more than vibrating air, they don't (or shouldn't) generate heat, only physical force, which Marisol is resilient to. They would disrupt her molecular structure quite a bit, hence the slowing down and making it hard for her to hold a form, but it shouldn't actually hurt.]

[Alright, since it looks like a lot of people are on and the mission's done, I'll be restarting this back up…if everyone's still willing, of course.]
