Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 20, 2007, 4:49pm

Last time in the Danger Yard:

A standard training mission, run by Zephyr. The aim: Fight stronger and stronger enemies, until, finally, everyone 'dies'.

Stilt-Man was the first to go.

Quicksilver just wasn't quick enough.

Swarm was crushed into bee goo by Marisol. Yuck.

Even the might Super-Skrull was vanquished! Though, not without getting a few kills in.

Now the group finds themselves in their toughest challenge yet: Carnage, Shriek, Dopplegangers, Carrion and the Demogoblin. The madmen - and madwoman - behind Maximum Carnage. It's about to get nasty.

[Check in, and we'll start this thing.]

Nicolette swooped into the control room and leaned forward between Wildfire and Zephyr.
"Can I join in?" she asked lightly, looking mostly towards Wildfire.

"Of course." Wildfire nods, typing in a few commands and nodding towards the seat Lex just got out of. "It's about to get a tad rough in there, though."

He's very red. But I don't think that's blood.

Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 20, 2007, 5:35pm

[Hm. Was hoping more people would check. Guess I'll get the ball rolling and see who bites.]

Demogoblin throws a few bombs out to create confusion, and the The Maximum Carnage gang spreads out, going on the attack.

First victim of the day…Wreck. Yeah, his luck is just that bad.

Dopplegangers snags Wreck up in a web, yanks him up to the third story window where he was sticking and starts to tear Wreck apart; biting, clawing, mangling his face - but not enough for the kill. He's very careful to make it last.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 20, 2007, 5:40pm

Doppleganger screams and lets Wreck go, but his cry succeeds in getting his mistresses attention.

"That wasn't very nice at all." Kelly feels a cold hand caress her chin from behind - Shriek's gotten behind her, using her sonic abilities to move silently through the air. "All my poor Doppleganger wanted to do was play…how would you like it if someone blasted you like that?"

And Shriek proceeds to do so. The sonic blast hits Kelly hard in her side; not fatal, but it's a real nasty flesh wound. Shriek follows up by elbowing Kelly in the head, and she crashes into the ground.

Suddenly losing a lot of blood, Wreck blinks. Don't pass out, don't pass out…..

Instead he snags his gun from a pocket, plugging himself in the head. He's already regenerating by the time he hits the ground…..which promptly kills him again.

However, Shriek is so busy with Kelly that Rapt's attack gets in; she takes it hard to the face, and goes falling herself; a little stunned, but okay. She'd be very vulnerable, but Rapt has his own problems. Namely the tendrils encircling his body.

"That was shameless, man!" Carnage screeches as he yanks Rapt through the air. "Don't you know better than to hit a girl…like that? Let me show you how to do it."

He bashes Rapt's skull into the side of a building. Hard. Rapt's skull cracks, his body goes limp…dead. "Oops…"

Nicolette's kick hits Demogoblin hard, but he's not too unfazed - he has enough sense to lob a few bombs at her from close range. They tear into her chest, burning, and if she wasn't so resilient it would be a sure kill - as is, it's just a burning, searing pain.

«*cough* Nico. Anyway, you could have used Marisol for Carnage… -_- »

Nicolette stared down on her chest… Sure, there was the HORRIBLE PAIN, but the bombs had also burned away her uniform there…
If this was real, she'd have laughed.

Instead, she tried ignoring the pain and bashing Demogoblin as hard and fast as she could

"Oh, an eager beaver!" Carnage starts to make his way towards Wreck, his smile getting impossibly wider. "Don't worry, everyone's going to get a turn…but if you want to go early…"

Carnage shoots a few tendrils to capture Wreck, but he doesn't go for the kill. Instead he uses Wreck's body a bit more creatively, wiping it around and using it to block Joe and Nephy's attack. Wreck's ability to instantly heal after death doesn't go unnoticed, either. "Oooooooooooooo…I think I might be able to have some fun with you!"

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 20, 2007, 5:57pm

Carnage is having a handful with Wreck; the symbiote isn't taking to his entropy field at all. Carnage screams as Wreck comes down on top and manages to pull away at the last second, but parts of his skin are showing - the symbiote's coming apart at the seams.

Meanwhile, Kelly's rescue attempt is cut off as the Doppleganger gets her from behind, wrapping all six of his arms around Kelly's body and his tongue around her neck for good measure, squeezing hard.

I start slight difficulty breathing, but I don't panic. I get angry. My thoughts go back to Venom. This feels too much like that.

"I don't like this feeling," I thought out loud, slightly angrily, as I wrapped my field around me with the intent to start prying Doppleganger off, and then to extend it outwards to throw him off completely.

Kelly's field knocks Doppleganger off, but not before he manages to get a grip on her left arm and drags his claws along, ripping a harsh cut all the way from her shoulder to her hand. Nephy's fists strike dead on while he's in mid-air, and Doppleganger tumbles downward.

Meanwhile, Wreck's assault is really taking its toll, and the symbiote has had just about enough - it pulls away from Cletus and lets him fry. Without a host, it drops down to the ground and slinks under all the dead bodies, leaving…

Nicolette felt inclined to ask the thing if he liked the view, but… he was just a hologram. She didn't waste her breath. Of course, she wasn't an idiot. She noticed the smile and was immediately suspicious.

She broke off her attack for a moment, then changed direction and flew around Demogoblin. Hoping to send him flying into Shriek, she delivered a kick to his back like a if he was a football.

Nicolette's kick sends Demogoblin flying, but he rights himself just before he hits the ground, hovering next to Shriek.

"Hm." Shriek looks up at Nicolette, intrigued. "Nice girl you've met, there."

"Yes, she is. Let's kill her."

Demogoblin and Shriek both fly towards Nicolette; Shriek throws sonic blasts from the right, Demogoblin throws hordes of bombs from the left.

Carrion is knocked away by the shockwave, and Nephy start to retaliate…but she feels something slithering up her leg. The symbiote just picked a new host.

It immediately envelopes and covers her in crimson; working it's way into her filling it with the same madness it had with Cletus, assaulting every vein, every muscle, every part of her in its effort to take control.

Post by Kelly Alecia "Star" Lisa on Feb 20, 2007, 6:23pm

I breathed in sharply from the pain and decided it was time to keep the field up.
And to go to Doppleganger for seconds.

I formed a few force bubble, and then shrank them next to him, compressing the air inside it. Air rushed in to fill the empty space. I dissolved the fields, and Doppleganger experienced what it was like to be next to near instant decompression of air.

Nicolette swooped up to hopefully avoid the attacks, then tried coming down between them… in theory, they'd now both attack her at the same time, she'd evade and they'd hit each other. She wasn't quite that optimistic, but she was willing to try.

Then she suddenly realized Wildfire was watching this.

Wreck's attention is drawn away by what's happening to Nephy. He splits his focus between Carrion and her for a moment, before sighing.

"This is going to hurt, darling."

Another field, this one around Nephy. While he burns the symbiote, he speaks to it, in the vague hopes that it would understand him.

"Get off of her, or this time you die."

Kelly's attack makes Demogoblin go pop. Nuff said, there. <_<

Crazy they may be, but Shriek and Demogoblin aren't stupid - they break off their attack before they can hit each. Though Demogoblin's bombs are too slow to hit Nicolette, Shriek's sonic blasts are just fast enough, and one hits her in the back, stunning her…and giving Shriek the chance to hit her with another one and another, pelting Nicolette while Demogoblin starts to join in with his bombs.

The creature that comes from the combination of Nephy and Carnage is a sight to behold - instead of black and red, its skin is pure red, looking exactly like blood. He teeth are shorter and her eyes are smaller than the real Carnage, but she still has the look, albeit with the obvious feminine qualities. And her hair grows wild and free, thrashing about with the look of a thousand flailing snakes.

'Nephage' screams in response to Wreck's attack, but it's being a lot more persistent than last time - it seems to know that Nephy means more to Wreck than Cletus did. Instead of retreating, it shoots out a tendril, moving much faster than Carnage did, and slices Wreck in half at the waist.

Nicolette could hardly move… Her head ached horribly and there was a sharp pain in her ears as well. It made her vaguely fearful of her head exploding. Then there was the fact that every few seconds, another explosion ripped into her - each one hurting more than the last.

She was just about screwed. But, alas… she couldn't look bad in front of Wildfire.

She struggled to try and fly off, then zip around a little and break Shriek's neck. This was a hologram, it didn't matter what she did.

Shriek, being strong but not THAT strong, has her neck easily snapped by Nicolette, and falls to the ground, limp. Demogoblin, as expected, does not take kindly to this.

He leaps from his glider and grab hold of her, tearing into her, slicing, even manifesting a pumpkin bomb and hitting her with it up close. Strong as Nicolette is, his assault is harsh, burns and scratches all over.

The symbiote takes Wreck's shockwaves, but it doesn't seem too happy about them…still, it stays on the ground, when it could easily just hop away to safety. Wreck finds out why in the next moment.

A tendrils shoots up from the ground behind Wreck and stabs him in the back, working it ways from where Nephage was manipulating it underground. It doesn't kill Wreck. Instead, Wreck can feel Nephy's blood mingling with his, bonding, robbing his entire body of motion…she's controlling him. As the tendril pulls away, Wreck's body starts to move on its own. Wreck can just watch.

Meanwhile, in the control room, Nicolette comes to and sees Wildfire standing over her. "I told you things could were intense in there." She sounds a little scolding, but there's some genuine concern. "I'm sorry you didn't come in earlier, this is really a bit harder than the others were…still, you did well, as usual. Are you alright?"

Nephage's hair tendrils shoot out with that same amazing speed from before, jerking her out of the air and bringing her down. Kelly can feel her joints and muscles start to give way, and there's a burning effect, too, as if the blood tendrils are made of acid.

[Eh, sure, why not.]

Nephage seems more annoyed by the horn than anything; her body shakes a little, quivers, but nothing serious. She commands Wreck to take care of Pester, and he does so by leaping through the car window and wrestling him out of the driver's seat, punching hard all the way.

Meanwhile, Nephage senses that Kelly's about to break lose and slams her into a wall; the shield blocks most of the damage, but it still cracks the bricks and numbs up Kelly's entire face.

Marcus fell on the ground, hard. His shoulder ached. He got up as quickly as he could, since the monster was now charging at him.

"You've messed with the wrong mutant. I kicked Venom's ass last week!"

Marcus generated three particles beams firing towards his opponent at near light speeds. Each particle beam carrying a trememdous amount of kinetic energy, enough to superheat the surface of Nephage's skin on impact and cause it to explode.

Pester tentatively title 'Insanity Beam' does, in fact, make Wreck go crazy - but, thing, his mind's not being controlled, so much as his body is. Getting kicked in the nuts just hurts Wreck, but, again, Nephage is controlling his body, not his mind, so it just hurts Wreck like a bitch. Punches continue to reign down on poor Pester.

Meanwhile, Nephage is dodging Kelly and Marcus' attacks, but she's really feeling the heat - literally. However, she's far from the only combatant around; Demogoblin comes at Marcus from behind and lets loose with a horde of pumpkin bombs.

The bombs explode in front of Marcus, but Demogoblin responds by covering him a cloud of smoke, fogging up the area.

While I'll admit that an 'Insanity Beam' is a cool gadget, it only really succeeds in making Nephage crazier than she already was. Furthermore, the rocks alert Nephage to Pester's presence, and she responds accordlingly - by lashing out with her tendrils.

Pester doesn't feel the pain…at first. Nephage is just that quick. But when he doesn't feel his arm, he looks down and notices that, well…it's not there anymore.

Marcus was coughing. He had to think of a plan fast. He thought of flying off, getting away from the smoke, but then he realized that it might be that stupid Goblin ripoff's plan. So he used a variation of the tatic that was previously used agianst Heatwave.

He created some plasma balls moving them a few feet beside him. He then started firing them in random directions up into the air so he wouldn't cause too much collateral damage. While all the plasma fired off in different directions, Marcus created his rocket boots and flew off out of the cloud in his own direction. He hoped that the other plasma blasts would distract the Goblin ripff enough so he can escape safely.

Pester looks down and notices that his arm is gone. With this, he knows the pain is coming. So he beats his body to it. He channels his strongest insanity beam and sends it to… HIMSELF!

Wreck is knocked out - but it doesn't really matter, since, again Nephage is controlling his body, not his mind; Wreck could be straight dead and she'd still be able to do this. However, the distraction - namely the incredibly odd sight of Pester beating Wreck with his arm like Fry did in that one episode of Futurama where they went to Zoidberg's home planet - gives Marcus enough time to hit Nephage with all four balls. The symbiote screams and detached from, bouncing off and leaving her on the ground. Shivering. Mentally scarred.

The Juggernaut doesn't seem particularly phased by either attack. If his blood is being slowed, he doesn't show it; he hasn't moved from the front gate since he entered. And he just smacks Nephy's blood hand away from she can pop off his helment.

It's hard to tell, but he seems to be yawning. Not the least bit threatened.

Marcus winces a little from Marcus' attack, but again…not too effective.

Still standing there. Still bored. "I'm just kind of waiting for you guys to do something impressive. Suspense and all."

Before setting myself down I turn to Zephyr. "For the last time, I wear underwear! Know what? Nevermind. Just… nevermind."

I materialize in the simulation before a decidedly bored looking Juggernaut. Huh. While it's certainly understandable, me never having been a superhero or whatever before this, I never actually fought somebody stronger than me before. Fun.

I don't even bother with weapons and go straight to slugging him with an uppercut. Hopefully, the surprise is enough to get a rise out of him.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 1:54am

Nephy's blood lance doesn't even get a scratch. "Please, you're boring me to tears over here? Don't you know who I am? I'm the Jugger-"

Juggernaut's interrupted in mid-catchphrase as Marcus's beams go straight down his throat - he's not hurt, but that wasn't a pleasant sensation. He's in the mood now.

He starts moving towards Marcus. And when the Juggernaut moves…

"Tatical retreat."

Marcus creates his rocket boots and flies off, firing multiple particle beams at the rushing target.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2

Cadmus's uppercut does indeed earn a surprised gasp from the Juggernaut - it hurts him, and he does slow down in his advance. A little. But not much and not for long; Cain swats Cadmus away and sends him flying, still advancing towards Marcus. "Wait your turn, runt! I'll get you all, one at a time."

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 2:02am

Juggernaut walks through the wall of fire like it's not even there, still focusing on Marcus. He reaches over to the X-Mansion's brick fence and tears out a chunk, ball it in his hands. "Man, this brings back memories. When I was you kids age, I used to be one hell of a pitcher. Let me see if I've still got the old arm…" He tosses the rock Marcus's way, clipping him in the side. "Eh. A bit rusty."

Marcus goes spiraling from the impact, a rather large wound open in his side. Broken ribs, all that good stuff.

Nephy floods Cain's helmet with Blood, trying to block the eye slits in particular.

Ouch. Not that pain is a new sensation or anything like that… it just typically takes more effort from the aggressor. So yeah. Ouch. I come down in the parking lot, a little more pain shooting through me to boot. Getting back to my feet I grab the nearest car and hurl it towards the Juggernat (I wonder, is it the Juggernaut or just Juggernaut? Does he have a preference? Would the real Juggernaut be extra angry if I forgot the "the?" Questions, questions).

"What if I don't want to wait?"

"Ahhh!"

Alright this wasn't good, ribs broken again, a familiar feeling. And now there was blood gushing out. He created a construct to close the wound, by pinching it. It was painful, but it'll stop the blood for now.

Need a new plan here.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 2:09am

Ah, you've got to love the Marvel Universe. There's always a conveniently placed car to throw at someone.

The car breaks to smithereens on Juggernauts back, and he sort of wobbles to the side - between that and Nephy clouding his vision, he's a bit disorientated. Hardly damaged.

He take off his helmet for a better look, and notices Nephy doing her thing. Slamming down his fist hard, he sends a shockwave that tears up the beneath, sending her ten feet in the air with hard landing. Satisfied, he turns to the only one who's given him any real pain so far: Cadmus. "You want your beating early, runt?" He starts heading Cadmus' way, refastening the helmet. "Come and get it."

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 2:10am

Daniel's net arrow is, again, completely ineffective. There's nothing to indicate the Juggernaut even knows he exists.

Post by Alexander "Cadmus" Baptiste on Feb 21, 2007, 2:13am

«Randomly placed cars… it wouldn't be Marvel without it.»

"Thank you. That's all I ask."

Nothing stops the Cadmus. Well, no, that's not even remotely true. Grenades have stopped the Cadmus. I don't think that grenades have stopped the Juggernaut… We don't have any telepaths here do we? Yeah. We've hit the wall. My first one too…

Charging towards the Juggernaut I bound towards him once I cover about three quarters of the distance between us with a flying punch.

Post by Marcus/Darya/Joshua/Ghost on Feb 21, 2007, 2:17am

«My creativity only got him angry.»

"Nephy!"

Marcus switched to more aggressive tactics and blasted himself towards Juggernaut. Constructs appear on his hands working similar to his rocket boots construct. They were for getting him out of Juggernaut's way before he could hit him. Hit and run tatics. Once he was close enough he aimed and fired a particle beam in each eye, even if they failed to burn them, they were still very very bright.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 2:17am

Not the best idea.

Juggernaut, as he sometimes does, remembers that he has this little force field trick that makes him even more invincible than usual - he puts it up the moment Cadmus hits. To Alexander, it feels like hitting a brick wall…or…whatever hitting a brick wall would feel like if Cadmus wasn't class 80…it hurts. His entire fist goes numb, and Juggernaut doesn't give him time to recoup, either; smashing him in the face with hard right. His helmet bends into an odd shape and he goes flying into the Mansion, landing in the second floors' bathroom.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2

The lights do an effective job of stunning the Juggernaut at first, but he covers up quick enough, his massive hand blocking the eye slits quite well.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Marcus/Darya/Joshua/Ghost on Feb 21, 2007, 2:22am

Marcus blasted himself away. Having another idea. He's not the Blob, he should be able to lift him. He flew in agian behind him. This time he was planning on forming contructs around each ankle and lifting him high in the air upside down. High enough to cause a big fall.

Re: Training Mission 8 - Stairway to Hell: Part 2
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 2:25am

The constructs lift the Juggernaut high, drop him hard, he makes a sizeable crater on the impact…but he's not hurt. "You guys are starting to get really irritating, you know that?" He gets up, turning back to Marcus…and then looking to the still-dazed Nephy. "Think it's about time I busted a few heads."

He starts walking towards her.

When Daniel jumps on the Juggernaut's back, he does something odd: Stop moving. Not because of any force, of course. Unless you'd count disbelief as a force. "Are you stupid or something?" He glances towards Daniel, shakes his head. "Off. Now."

Reaching behind him, he flicks Daniel away…a flick that send Incendiary flying to the other side of the lawn. He starts to move back towards Nephy, when Marcus' constructs take effect; he'd been so flabbergasted by Daniel's attack that he hadn't been paying attention. He goes flying into the forest, and the sound of his landing echoes all over…followed by the sound of him crushing through the trees, making his way back.

Ugh. Does that sum it up? Yeah. Ugh. It does a good job. Being knocked clear across the lawn, through a wall and into a bathtub is no picnic. No chance of there being a hardlight Jean Grey or Professor Xavier in here, huh? I drag myself to my feet and throw my bent helmet off… I'm fairly certain something in my face cracked but I didn't really hear it over the WHAM sound that came from Juggy punching me in the head.

I almost go with the tried an true "throw shit at 'em from far away" tactic, but I already tried it with a car and he barely shrugged. Instead I just head back out and barrel towards him again. I crack a smile when I see him blasted into the forest. Feeling still not back in my hand. Juggernaut has a forcefield? Damn.

Arriving back on the scene I walk to where Juggs was when I threw the car at him. The thing pretty much cracked in half over him. Did me a whole lot of good. Grabbing one of the larger pieces - the one with the gas tank - I turn to the others.

"Well I can throw this at him and Marcus can blow it up… but that buys us like, five seconds."

"I'm going to try something."

He gathered up the particles in the air above him. All their attacks have been ineffectual thus far. The most he could do was buy time. So he was pulling out his trump card, a technique that he hasn't completely mastered yet.

Manipulating two magnetic feilds was hard enough, there was also the fact that he had to match the oscillations of the particles. It was an intuitive process. He tried his hardest, he really did, but it wasn't working.

"Damn it. I guess you're idea is better than any."

«Be right back.»

Juggernaut just wails and wails into Cadmus, driving him deeper into the dirt, each blow more intense and heavier than the last. Nephy's blindness doesn't stop, Marcus' attacks don't faze him; the Juggernaut's pure rage now, and he unleashes all of it on Cadmus. "Aw. She's sleeping." Zephyr puts a blanket over Nephy.

[<_< Wasn't ignoring her, really…if I'd just got through fighting the Juggernaut, I'd take a nap, too…]

Nicolette looked at Zephyr crossly.
"This isn't exactly the best place for sleeping. I should probably take her to her room."

"I was around for it," Wreck says, uncharacteristically quiet. "It was a little like that scenario in the haunted house…..Shriek was somehow psychologically putting everyone in a wonky state of mind. It was hard to function."

«So they know about the telepathy in the haunted house now?»

[He didn't say psychically. He said psychologically. Everyone was either scared out of their minds or violent, but didn't know why]

«Uh huh.»

Nicolette's cross look kind of creeps me out, so I back off and let her scoop Nephy up. Not a word.

"Man, yall will complain about anything."

Wreck slumps into a chair, folding his arms.

Nicolette removed the blanket with a wave her of her hand, throwing it back towards Zephyr. She wondered where he got it from in the first place. She scooped Lifebeat up gently and floated off towards the door.
"Goodbye, Belle. See you later, everyone."

Zephyr puts the towel the back on the table, where he'd had it in the first place. You really never know when you might need a towel…

"Zephyr…" began Marisol, then hesitated. She felt silly and distressed just bringing this up. "It's just… I wish you hadn't brought me out without my permission. You really don't need to help me like this… It's sweet, but I wanted to manage on my own, even if it meant being beaten…"
She looked at him apologetically.

«I'm still here .
Well, actually, I wasn't around…
And it's not like she could do anything to him.
Aw. I wanted to be smashed around by the Juggernaut too.»

Zephyr smiled, laughed, scratched the back of his head. "Heh, sorry. Got a little overprotective. My bad."

Marisol smiled again. Zephyr could be so cute sometimes…
"It's all right. I'd have felt the same way…"

«After everyone leaves.»

Lying on the ground was an unconcious Marcus. He was waking up slowly, when his eyes finally fluttered open everyone already left the danger room, leaving him behind.

"So guess we lost the mission right?"

He was greeted by his own echo. Marcus sat there for a few seconds.

"Load hidden file, password Alpha Foxtrot Epsilon-Theta five five."

An image of Apolcolypse doing the can can appeared in the center of the room. Marcus stared for a few minutes, a little amused.

"Computer, delete file."

And then he left.
