Training Mission 18 : One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

«Okay, so here's the deal. You check in, and hopefully we'll get this thing started. Unfortunately, it's going to be a little strained - today's turning out to be a little worse for me than I thought it would. I'm getting thrown about a bit for errands I'm being made to run, etc., and there don't seem to be many of people from the list online right now. But we'll see.

Worst case scenario, it'll be pushed to tomorrow.»

Okay, so here's the thing. I am, at this stage, still being thrown here and there against my will, to run various errands and other stuff, so if I cut out a little randomly, sorry . But let's kick this thing off while we can, shall we? Late additions are welcome; for the most part, this'll be done at a player's pace, so don't worry about coming in late, and you can reply at your leisure. Give me a couple of minutes, and I'll start it up.»

Pester enters the Danger Room with his sword strapped to him. After the other day, he feels he needs all the training he can get to maintain control of himself. He waits around to see if somebody runs a program that he can jump into.

A call goes out to the students on active teams, summoning them to the danger room. They’re afforded little information other than the fact that a training mission is about to run. The call seems a little… unfamiliar.

Sure, why not. I've sort of been sidelined for a while anyway. I make my way to the Danger Room and wave "Hi." to Pester as I walk in.

Does Pester have a name?

Hey, it's Nadia. You haven't seen her in awhile. In fact, do you even remember whether or not you've seen her at all? No, you don't. Just assume you've met.

Pester gives a friendly, and familiar wave.

"Heya."

Re: Training Mission 18 : One Flew Over The …

Once the students have entered the Danger Room, the silence and seemingly empty control room strikes them as rather disconcerting. They steadily grow more and more uneasy as the silence seems more out of place.

It’s especially worrying since they were actively called there. Of course, it could have just been a childish prank. It would even seem likely now. But there’s still something about the situation that won’t let them put it off to something as simple as that.

When they’re about to turn around and leave, understandably frustrated with the situation, a sound finally comes from the still empty control room. A giggle, cutting through the air sharply – out of place to an almost unearthly extent. They feel a slight tugging in the back of their mind, and lose themselves in a fog, as the Danger Room fades away.

They are alone. Each of them, completely alone.

«Okay. Anything you see now, you think is real. You don’t know that you’re in the Danger Room or a training mission anymore.»

Marcus felt disoriented.

"Well fuck. What just happened?"

He saw alot of fog. He took a breath to calm himself.

"Nice…."

The gravest danger is being overcome by your own fear. Even if you face something you can't comprehend… Accept it. Calmly observe and secure your position.

Strange how he's relying more and more on what he was taught, now that his powers were gone. He was lost in the fog, he has no powers, what led to this is unknown, and he seems to be alone, although there could be others, the fog was too thick to tell.

He walked forward, seeing nothing else to do. Perhaps he could find something, someone.

Re: Training Mission 18 : One Flew Over The …
Post by Kelly Alecia "Star" Lisa on May 19, 2007, 3:10pm

The fog seems to dissipate, revealing their surroundings for each of them. It has to be somewhat comforting, in some ways. Uncertainty is always perturbing.

~ Nadia ~

The fog recedes, and yet the environment around her doesn’t stay still enough for her to understand. The colours swirl into each other, clashing in turmoil, lashing out at each other. The reds and browns would seem reassuring despite the confusion, were it not for the fact that everything still seemed so cold and metallic.

~ Lisa ~

As the fog fades, nearly all reason to worry does to. Lisa finds herself sitting in a very high class restaurant – lamaite? Heyat? It’s not easy to tell. Everything in the periphery seems to be unclear… but it doesn’t matter so much, does it? There’s a chair pulled back at the table in front of her, where Joseph sits, looking through a menu.

~ Marcus ~

Nothing is wrong. He is who he should be. Who he was meant to be. Who he has always been. Of course – heaven and hell are timeless. An instant of existence on the mortal coil is not even the blink of an eye in this realm – so Marcus has always been the lord of hell, seated proudly at his throne.

The screams in the distance ring surprisingly clearly into his ears.

«Yeah. What TEO said.»

After a moment, it does shift, and Pester finds himself in a cozy little home with a little child running up to him with arms wide open.

“Daddy!”

«No, I don’t hate you, Dean . I’m just cruel.»

"What's wrong my Lord?"

Marcus rubbed his eyes.

"Strange dreams, I felt like I was back in the old days, when I was a human, how long ago was that Demi?"
"Approximitly 1 Gazillion 5 Jillion 3 trillion 1 billion 2 million 1 hundred fifty thousand five hundred ninety nine years. Twenty-five days, ten hours, 1 minute, 15 seconds, 25 nanoseconds…"
"Forget I asked."

He sighed. He had more important things to do.

"How's our international relations going?"
"Well Hel's being a bitch as usual, relations with Hades aren't going too well, Princess Toadstool is asking for more humane treatment of the damned before they agree to an alliance."
"What? They're the damned, they're here to be punished. Arrge. Howbout the Sephrot asshole?"
"Still vying for war, intelligence confirmed that he's seeking an alliance with the other old ones, starting with Cuthulu."

Something in the back of his mind was telling him this was terribly, terribly wrong.

Pester instinctively opens his arms, while his eyes take on a thousand yard stare. He says nothing as the child runs to him, he can just about hear his mind sizzling as dementia hits him full force.

"Hey kid… How's it going?"

Somehow, there's a certain familiarity to the situation. Maybe it's the idea that somebody he's never met before is showing love, maybe it's the homey environment, but this isn't such an awful thing to experience. Pester doesn't resist the hug.

Joe starts speaking, but even though Lisa can hear him – even though she understands every word – there’s some part of her that sees it all, hears it all, as a complete distortion.

So, is this a perfect moment for her, or a perfect confusion of what she wants? Her decision, really.

~ Nadia ~

She calls out, and gets her response. But it’s not directly to her, nor is it exactly the most comforting response. It’s a sight, at the least. Is it a memory or is it reality? Happening right now?

At any rate, she watches the Brotherhood clash with the New Mutants. One moves opposite her, and she feels herself shift into energy.

«Nothing special, Last. Give me a sec and I’ll put it up.

And I didn’t forget you this time, Dean, Or you, Doodle. I’m just posting what I’ve got first .»

~ Marcus ~

The screams become a little more familiar – surprising enough, since the recognisation of screams is a little worrying as far as talents go. Dillon Drummond. Marcus is sure of it.

~ Pester ~

The kid starts babbling about his day, recounting a fascinating escapade with a frog and a log across a pond, and a scraped leg. A little girl – younger than the boy – scrambles into the room, and grabs onto Pester’s other leg.

Alexia slides into the room, and moves to greet Pester.

His desire, or a complete and utter nightmare? The eyes bulging out of Pester’s head don’t do much to indicate one way or the other.

~ Wildfire ~

The fog – something that would have seemed decidedly unimpressive to Wildfire (smoke and mirrors, most likely. Hardly something to be proud about) – clears, and Wildfire finds a familiar sight. Something she must have seen dozens of times before. Scorched earth. Not the most pleasant of smells, but there’s something oddly enthralling about it.

If she turns around, she’ll recognise a desolate, charred building that seems oddly reminiscent of the Hellfire Club.

«You can hear him. That was a cop-out so that I didn’t have to pick a meal >_>.

Sorry for being so slow. Also, I’m going to be gone for maybe twenty minutes. Sorry .»

«Now that's just mean.»

The energy burst had just caught me in mid air. For the second time that day. Pain tore through my body. For the second time that day. But that time it was cut short. The disruptive energy was peeling my metal body apart for the second time, but then everything changed. My form glowed for the merest of moment before giving way to a vaguely human shaped, five foot tall mass of energy. I could barely maintain coherent thought like that. My mind could only process a single concept at a time.

Retribution.

That was when I killed Phantazia.

That was then. This is now. I've come a long way. Turning into energy strips me of some of my morals and impairs my judgement, but it doesn't take away my ability to think. And what I think is that I'm getting really pissed off at being screwed with like this. I've been here already. I know that I couldn't possibly be back. Standing in my energy form I scream out, not even acknowledging Phantazia before me. I don't know what I'm talking to. Funny, though. Retribution is on my mind yet again.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?"

«This has been a representation of the original post where Nadia killed Phantazia.»

Pester can't think of any particular reason for it, but somehow this situation isn't feeling entirely unknown. Maybe it's all the warmth of the room and it's inhabitants. "What do you think?"

It's Phantazia, with a very noticable hole running through her.

"You're doing it all wrong, by the way. It's not your decision to make. Well… not anymore, it isn't."

Nadia finds herself sliding forcibly towards the Phantazia - the one that's speaking with her - and turns around in horror, only to see… well, herself, where she was just standing. And that moment she lived just a moment ago happening again… only the way she remembers this time.

~ Marcus ~

Wow. You've really lost it, haven't you? I mean… wow. Seriously, blowing that girl's legs off and roasting that other guy was bad enough, but this? This is just a whole other level of messed up.

~ Lisa ~

"So, you're happy, huh?"

As Lisa lies down on the couch, she'll notice someone who looks remarkably like her sitting in a chair right next to it. The only real differences in her appearance are the circular markings around her eye, and the lack of colour in they eyes themselves.

~ Wildfire ~

A girl jumps out of the doors, lashing at Wildfire in a feral manner.

~ Pester ~

The boy starts trying to pull Pester towards a lego set, while the girl tries to pull him in the other direction, to show him a drawing of the family.

For a moment, everything goes negative, and their skin seems decidedly absent.

Just a moment. It passes.

«Last; Like I said, at your own pace. Or mine; depends on how slow I'm being >_>.

If I had definable eyes at the moment, they would be staring blankly.

Somebody vastly underestimates how many times I've lived this moment already. What can be best described as "emergency therapy" is the only thing that kept me from having a complete nervous breakdown. Rogue and Sam hooked me up with Dr. Samson during the weeks I was away following the event. I don't like to talk about it. All the same, this moment and the day Oracle died permeate my dreams pretty often. I could be having one of them now, come to think of it. Either way, I've seen this happen far too many times for it to simply shut me down. Still stuck on retribution as far as thoughts go. Energy form isn't doing much for my moral compass.

"I do not appreciate being toyed with, ma'am. What is this supposed to be?"

“I mean, look at this.” She gestures at the now frozen Joseph. “Candle-lit dinner at a table for two… Dom Perignon… someone who loves you and a great home. Do you really think you deserve this?”

She kneels so that she’s on the same level as Lisa and leans over to whisper in her ear.

“When you’re really just a monster waiting to be let out?”

The girl freezes up, staring at the gun with a mixture of fear and curiosity.

“Don’t shoot me! Don’t shoot me!” The pleas come out with all the conviction of someone with no hope in them whatsoever.

Daniel hits Pyro on the nose, and it has all the impact of… well, a kid hitting a grown man on the nose. A rather strong, physically fit grown up, who dodges the blow for the most part. The flames do nothing, also. Pyro smiles, giving Dan a slight push after the sidestep.

It's a belief of many that all existence is conceptual. A dream of the shared consciousness of humanity, using sheer force of will to mold reality into how they subconsciously see themselves. If one man has the will - the desire - strong enough to forge his own reality, his own happiness, all on his own, then why not? Perhaps he has earned it.

She shakes her head and walks towards the Hellfire Club, paying Wildfire little attention as she does so.

“Your problem is that you always thought with your head instead of your heart. You never knew the possibilities that came with the emotion. You say that you would have burned this place down? You’re only deluding yourself. Until Nicolette pried you away, you were a lapdog. You would have served them nearly any way they would have asked.

The world's become a worse place. It's hard not to be sarcastic. Everything's gone to hell up there… pardon the pun. You remember what happened to all of the heroes, right? Their supposed avarice and worship earned them and their supporters a place here right next to the sinners. As a result, most of the inspiration, and reason for a world that was already teetering on the edge of damnation was thrust into it. By your standards, most of the people up there are damned. Look to your right. That woman there? You brought her down here for stealing to feed her family. Most of the world is going to end up down here, sooner or later. They have no hope, and no reason to hope.

If someone's life flashes before their eyes just before they die, then how much of a respite does a fourteen year old gain when staring death in the face? At least for another, an escape would be found in what would be an instant but seem like a lifetime - reliving their own. But for this young girl? The instant is just that, and only a momentary escape presents itself to her before she feels the skeletal embrace of death.

The energy being runs through her, and for a moment, nothing matters. Not the burning that runs from Nadia's chest to her brain. Not the pain that she feels at the front of her head. Not that rattle that forces its way out of her throat - cold and wet. She is graced with a moment in which nothing matters, because in that moment, she has the chance for completion. For ascension.

The moment passes, and she hits the floor. Again, she is graced with another moment - this time, one that stretches out for an eternity. It drowns her in despair. She can't feel her arms. She can't feel her legs. She can't feel any part of her, and somehow, it is much more terrible than the pain that ran through her but a moment ago. She is cold. She is alone. She is gone. Her eyes still themselves, an empty reflection of what was there before.

And then she can breathe again. Phantazia crouches beside her.

"Do you see now?"

Calmly, Blind proceeds through the maze. As usual, he had no trouble with where he was going. If he were asked to describe it, the best possible answer would be that he simply……knew where everything was at any given time. Like wandering through a darkened but familiar room, where you are aware of any potential stumbling blocks.

Though he wasn't egomaniacal enough to think that it would last in this situation.

Indeed. Siamko's ascertations would prove to be accurate. The commotion seems, as far as he is aware, to halt entirely… When all of a sudden, the Rhino bursts through the wall, carrying a knife oddly remniscent to Raitsov's.

In fact, if Siamko were to care enough to inspect the Rhino closer, he would find that it is Raitsov in the Rhino suit.

It would seem someone has an unpleasant sense of humour.

The smoke from the blast begins to clear, and one thing is apparent; it's certainly taken its count. In the middle of the Recreational Room lies burned corpses - five, she'll notice, if she counts - preserved significantly better than one would expect of something to be struck with a blast of such intensity. Much of the flesh has been burned away, and along with them, the majority of any distinguishing features. The bones are blackened, but oddly enough, the teeth remain perfectly white. Perhaps Wildfire could hazard a guess as to their former identities.

«Sorry. Like I said, a little sporadic.»

~ Siamko ~

She falters for a moment, flustered - although she does well to hide it. A question that she doesn't have the answer to doesn't sit well with her.

You put the wrong one in. Here, let us fix it.

The image flickers for a moment, and then disappears. Erebus appears in her place, and Siamko manages to forget that Nicolette had even been there.

Is this one right?

I don't know, do I? Like Esme said, his mind's too weird to catch onto right. Keep on flicking through. Go with whichever one you get the most response from.

After a few moments, Erebus fades and Kidd appears. Again, he forgets about the former's appearance. And then Kelly. And then Wildfire. Christian. Jesse. Casey.

«Um… what the hell? Is he trying to snap his neck?

You do know that all of the characters think this is real, right? Just checking.»

He caught himself in that sentence. It was strange how his emotions were fluctuating, from detachment, to sentiment, to anger. He expression changed back to impassivity as he looked at the four of them.

"Been a long time."

That wasn't enough for him, barb wire wrapped around Kelly's legs, piercing deep.

"And now you've seem to grown to hate me. I supposed that's natural after I tortured you for so long."

Stop this.

Oh, I thought I wasn't in charge anymore?

Oh, just shut up, stop bitching, and do something.

The barbs went deeper.

Stop this!

He ignored the voice. A buzzsaw started cutting her arm off. Bits of flesh were flying.

"JUST FUCKING STOP!!"

Marcus fell to the floor, the buzzsaw, the barbed wire, they disappeared.

"What did I do? What did I do?"

He couldn't, even if it was the only way he couldn't. His hand shook at the very thought of it.

"There is another solution. I can release them. Or… or I can transform hell. I can make it a place where people don't suffer. This can't be right. There has to be another solution."

Re: Training Mission 18 : One Flew Over The …
Post by Kelly Alecia "Star" Lisa on May 20, 2007, 6:58pm

That earned him a contemptful laugh.

They can't enter heaven now. Not after this long. You'd be resigning them to an eternity in limbo - the absence of any divine influence. Something just as bad if not worse than hell.

And do you seriously think you can transform hell like that? Listen to yourself. Think for a moment. You have to do this.

Re: Training Mission 18 : One Flew Over The …
Post by Marcus/Darya/Joshua/Ghost on May 20, 2007, 7:07pm

"There's nothing left. Isn't there?"

He got up, if it was the only solution. He focused on their souls.

He was going to kill them.

But his mind flashed back to time he fought Valkyr, to the time where he killed Omega Red. Even then those battles were quick, no time to think, no time to do anything but act. This was different, slow, methodical. He couldn't do it.

He really couldn't do it.

"Oh shut up. Shut up! I don't need you! I'm not going to torture anyone, I'm not going to enslave anyone, and most of all I'm not going to kill anyone else!"

He was glad he didn't kill them, this wasn't right at all. Hell if he did what would Brent think. He was better than this, he was stronger than this.

He was going to transform hell. He could affect this place. The voice already told him that. He was going to transform it into a place where nobody got hurt.

"I'm going to start making things right."

Hell was transformed. The torture devices, the demons, the fires, they were all gone.

Idiot.

You've had people in here for aeons. Screaming away their pain, fighting for a breath - of course, something that isn't actually theirs to have, but they can maintain the illusion; it would be one of the only ones they can keep - while you subject the to more and more pain. The victims you've held here won't have a peaceful hell. It's them now. Their souls. All they remember is pain, and though you shape this place, don't forget that they do too.

Like I said. All they bloody know is pain."

A foot finds itself smashing across Marcus' jaw.

The shadow cloak swirling around him, obscuring his features, pulls back.

"I'm bloody pissed off is what," Sephula tells him.

He faced Sephula.

The blazer and jeans combination is typical within Marcus' memory, though. Hands in his pockets, he throws an ephemeral glance behind him before looking back at Marcus.

"Look… I don't want to do this. You can just… put things away. Put it all right. You can't have heaven here. It's not the way it works. The Logos'll extend as far as Hir will allows it - and do you think She'll allow heaven here?" He shakes his head sadly, casting his gaze down for a moment.

The spike runs into the girl's stomach, gutting her thoroughly. It slides into her with a sick, wet squirting sound. It's just a moment before the blood begins running down the sides of the spike.

She tries to talk, but it's hard to speak through the blood bubbling out of her mouth. After spitting it at Lisa, though, she's able to. Oddly coherent. To an extent that would seem impossible for someone in her position.

"So… how could I be your masochism… if you're still hurting me? Surely that means that yours is still in you?"

She pauses and smirks.

"Or maybe I'm just lying again? And if so… if we can't be separate… what do you say to the fact that we obviously are?"

The blood she spat rushes back to her own face.

"I think you're the physical manifestation OR just something masquerading as such. I think that If you are the former, I know you. If the latter, I don't care."

The Pike shoves her off and pins her to the ground, as I stand back up.

"And In either case, I'm bored to death of these mind games. I think I'll just suck all your blood out now, if you don't mind."

I precede to do so.
