Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 8, 2007, 6:49pm

«Alright people. I feel like doing one of these. Be warned. There will be no storyline. Why? Because I'm too bloody lazy right now . Many of you may recognise most of what comes up, so it should be fun. I'd be inclined to ask if I could make this pre-split, so that people like TEO can be involved. Specifically TEO, mostly because I think he'll know whatever comes up that others may not. Of course, I'm going to be winging it, so… yeah. If not… well, I'll have to delete this and move it.»

«Okay. Starting.»

"Everyone ready?" Cyclops asks them as they sit down in the seats in the control room, connecting them to the Danger room. "Beast got bored last night. And to be honest, I think he's been in a rather Hellenistic mood of late. Have fun."

They find themselves teleported into a Colleseum.

"Things are starting off easy."

A Minotaur appears in front of them, as well as four guards armed with a sword and rounded shield.

"Take them down."

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Sir Nathaniel/Fang on Mar 9, 2007, 5:14pm

Sir Nathaniel draws his sword, and looks at the Minotuar. He clanks his sword against his shield to gets its attention,"Lets have at it!"

Post by Nephy "Lifebeat" Nephrahim on Mar 9, 2007, 5:15pm

I try to grab the nearest two gaurds and fling them into the others. This dosen't look that hard.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 9, 2007, 5:16pm

"Have at it?" The Minotaur repeated incredulously. "What are you, an idiot?" He picked up one of the guards and hurled him at the Knight.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 9, 2007, 5:17pm

The two guards are slammed down but they get back up quickly. It seems that they aren't quite as easy to put down as Nephy thought.

Man, this place sure is immersive.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Sir Nathaniel/Fang on Mar 9, 2007, 5:17pm

Sir Nathaniel tries to roll out of the way. "You mean you'd actually rather talk then fight?"

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Sara "Radical Dreamer" Lincoln on Mar 9, 2007, 5:18pm

Sara runs towards the two guards Nephy didn't target (assuming they're next to each other), and attempts to leap frog over the two, slamming their heads together.

"LEAP FROG!"

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 9, 2007, 5:20pm

"No, I mean I'd rather not hear you talk like an idiot." The Knight avoided the attack effectively, but the Minotaur just rammed him. The Knight was sent back quite painfully.

The guards turn their attention on Nephy. One of them tries to hit her over the head with his shield.

«Um… I really don't know how to address what Pester did. Clue as to how it's normally treated?»

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends

Will tries to sneak up and possess the guard that was tossed at Knight.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends

Armoring up in her Darkness armor, Torment intends to place a blindfold/muzzle construct on the Minotaur's face.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 9, 2007, 5:22pm

The guards' aren't very amused by Sara's tactics. One raises his shield, knocking her away.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 9, 2007, 5:23pm

Will manages to possess the guard (as that's the only reason I put them there ).

The Minotaur is muzzled, and pissed off by it. In his rage, he rams into Torrance.

Her armor absorbing most the impact, Torment conjures a Darkling Succubus and sicks it on the Minotaur. The Succubus lashes at the Minotaur with a barbed whip.

"Frickin' Tauren," she mutters.

Post by Sir Nathaniel/Fang on Mar 9, 2007, 5:27pm

"Well then I offered you respect, and was insulted in kind." Sir Nathaniel says dragging himself painfully to his feet. He points his sword at the Minotaur."I'll say it again, let's have at it!" he pushes the pain out of his mind, and charges the Minotaur. Even weakened he isn't backing down.

«Now, I'm assuming that that this coliseum has somewhat sandy floors/ground/whatever, but if I'm wrong, tell me and I'll delete the post and come up with something else.»

Bending over to run my hand over the ground briefly, I take off towards the Minotaur, transforming into sand as I go. He looks stronger than I would be like this so I go for something other than punching like an idiot: my body disperses into a very miniature sandstorm, and I try to blind, choke or otherwise give the minotaur pause long enough for somebody else to get a good strike in.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Sara "Radical Dreamer" Lincoln on Mar 9, 2007, 5:34pm

Sara lands back on her feet and runs back at the guards, this time breaking off her run to start circling one hoping that she can suck the air out of his lungs without being hit.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 9, 2007, 5:36pm

«Um… everyone has one of those. There's a pulse there.»

The Minotaur roars after being whipped and is about to lash out when the Knight charges him. He simply swats the Knight aside with one arm. Will would not manage to get behind him if it wasn't for Nadia distracting the Minotaur by choking him. Will stabs him in the heel - from which the Minotaur begins to bleed profusely, but not before crippling the guard he's in with another blow.

Nephy and Sara manage to knock the remaining guards out.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends

Pester runs over and grabs the armor and weapons off of an unconscious guard, and equips it.

“No, you did good, Nathaniel. All of you did. Wraithling, you might want to have an extra ethics session.”

The scene shifted to a mountain top. The mountain Qaf, to be specific. The wind kicks up around them, blowing dust up into the air.

A giant, white bird lowered itself slowly, beating its majestic wings. It touched down on the ground, and then beat its wings once more, producing a massive blast of wind that assailed the team.

«Pretty much. Except that’s just the tendon. The actual heel has a blood vessel that requires immediate treatment if cut into. That’s because of the valves in place to stop backflow.»

Wary of being blown apart and scattered, I pull my sand form in and resume human shape, and then simply brace myself against the wind for the moment.

"AAH!"

I hate Electricity!

Luckily, Nephy was pretty well grounded, so it didn't hurt that much. She deiced to nip this one in the bud though, sending the hand flying toward the Roc, trying to knock it down fast.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends

The Roc tore through the hand with its wing with ease, and then another bolt came down on Nadia.

Nadia blasted at the Roc as lighting and knocked it out instantly.

Re: Training Mission 12 - Stuff of Legends
Post by Risk on Mar 9, 2007, 6:28pm

The setting shifted again. It settled on a dank area that reeked of the dead… and was enveloped in shadow. A river lay nearby. A skeletal man waited on board a ferry.

The darkness seemed to come alive and spiralled together, taking form. He stepped forwards, seemingly bound in armour that melded together in a way that the joints were invisible. A small slit was apparent at his eyes, through which a deep red shone.

“Welcome…” he clapped his hands together and gestured at the river theatrically “… to Hades.”

Entirely unperturbed by the cliche, he glanced at Charon. If they could see his face they would see a smirk spread across his lips.

“Perhaps a more… fitting surroundings for our heroes?” He clicked his fingers and shadows leapt at each mutant (or other ), pulling them straight into the ground. The reappeared a moment later in front of a giant boulder rolling down a hill. Jumping out of the way, they managed to save themselves from the fate that the grass shares. Something runs over their eyes for a moment, and all light in the area disappears. Just for a moment. In what seems like a flash – a result of all of the light reappearing – their host reappeared. He pulled his helmet off and placed it on the intricate throne that appeared beneath him as he lowered himself the sit. The blonde of his hair, and his pale skin was in deep contrast with the armour he bore, but the red of his eyes was glaring, cutting sharply through the air.

“Neither,” was the curt response he received. He gestured at the Knight with somewhat of a flamboyant flick of the hand. “I am rather insulted that you do not recognise me in my own right… I shall have to think of the fitting punishment.”

He glanced at William and a slow smile spread across his face.

Another winged woman swooped down upon them. Her fair skin matched Nike's, and the only aesthetic differences were the dark hair she sported, and the fact that her wings were black.

"Thank you," she smiled cruelly "for finishing what I started." She looked up at them. "I am Eris. I am Strife."

A laugh boomed down the pathway.

“I never claimed that I was not going to take action. But look around you, Mortal. He is on my doorstep. No, I said that I cannot take action against him. But his power is in his name, boy. At least, in the perception of Mortals. Take that power and hold it against him, and he shall lose his power over you.

“His name is Erebus, of the evening.”

"Fair enough."

Will walks back to Charon, gets on the boat and starts the long trip back. He yells up to the control room.

“Now… perhaps one of you could clue me in… Where exactly was I?”

He reformed in the ‘corner’, looking straight down. The armour was gone. In its place was a long tailed, black suit. He rested both of his hands on a white tipped, black show can, and then tilted his top hat down.

“I think… we were about to play out the final scene of this act, just before the curtain call. The field of Agincourt be the where your corpses fall. To the French? A victory well deserved. Your ‘king’ claimed a breach to his folly, and his impudence shall earn you your graves.”

With a flick of his wrist, he twirled his cane and then used it to point at Nadia.

“My word be written. Apate?”

Nadia rose slowly to her feet. She turned her head slowly and eerily to an odd angle, and stared at Erebus. After a few moments, she spoke in a forceful whisper. “Your word, my bond.” The voice was not Nadia’s. It was deeper. Sharper. More cruel. She turned to face Nephy, Sara and Sir Nathaniel.

“Would you like to play a game?” her arms began to crackle with electricity again.

Sara scoops up a few handfuls of pebbles and stones as she runs circles around the place, quickly throwing them at full speed attempting to cause some sort of distraction as she moves in closer.

"Seemenowyoudont"

Sara taunts as she cuts away from the head on chicken run, wrapping around to Nadia's back and attempting to shoulder Nadia's knee with a 300mph chop block.

Sara looked up and saw that Nadia had turned to stone everywhere except for her arms - she had been allowed to do so by contact from Sara's 'stone storm'. Reaching down, she gave Sara a low level shock before firing two similar blasts at the Knight and Nephy.

Ok, this is no time to act all scared. I need to finish this. The only problem is I DON'T want to hurt Nadia. I've never seen her before this mission, but she is a member of the beam.

I brace myself and fling a glob of blood at her. Not trying to beat her, but to get her wet. She probably won't like me when this is over….

Man, I'm not even sure the absorbing man would do something this silly. My respect for this this guy is taken a nosedive. Nadia's own blood arms envelope her, and slam Nadia repeatedly into the hard ground. I still don't want to hurt her too bad, but I can't wait for her arms to change back.

Apate begins to lose her control of Nadia, and finds herself retreating from Nadia's body. Nadia slumps to the floor.

"Apate, Apate, Apate…" he took a few steps away from the group, with his back to them, tutting. "I thought you were more competent than that. For shame. Now all you get is to join the rest in the Styx."

Apate span to Nephy, grabbing a hold of her clothes.

"Save me! I beseech you!"

Orkham scowled noticeably.

"You dare supplicate her? In my realm? Here, I am your lord! And you dare defy me?"

The scowl on his face switched to an eerily warm smile as he addressed Nephy.

"You may wish to close your eyes, dear."

He raised the cane, and living darkness flew out of it as if it was an infestation, and attacked Apate, tearing away at her flesh and devouring it. After a few moments, all that was left was a skeleton. And the eyes. It seemed the darkness didn't have much of a taste for the eyes. The head fell off and landed in front of Nephy.

"I did tell you; I am the birth. I am the death. I am all that is here. But you did not listen." His voice grew sterner and harsher. "You chose, instead of bowing before me, to play your childish games. Do you know what it is now, girl? It's time to grow up."

He began to walk to her slowly.

"I will do what I do here- Apate failed me. She showed me incompetence. Incompetence is something that I cannot stand." He raised his arm slowly and pointed at her theatrically. "You. You and your ilk. Though you are but children whose mentality cannot understand this… glory, you still impress me."

He shook his head slightly.

"It is a shame that you shall not endure."

He lifted his head slowly, an eerie smile etching across his face. His hair now covered the majority of his face, but the glare of his glowing red eyes forced its way through them all the same. He stared at Nephy for a moment, his cane dissolving. Slowly, very slowly, a serpent formed on his shoulders and slithered down his arm. He made a show of it, slanting his shoulders diagonally downwards, allowing the snake free passage. A book formed in his hand, along with an inked quill.

"Tell me, girl… what is your name?"

A rather large gauntlet formed out of the ground, seizing Woverine. It squeezed down on him and several bones cracked audibly. Colossus fared slightly better, getting close enough to land a blow that staggered the Orkham. Cyclops blasted Colossus' chest, as the Orkham gave him a brief look, questioning his sanity. He realised his mistake when the blast hit his helmet, welding it shut, and Colossus knocked him down with another blow.

Pester bolsters the X-Men's stats with a thrilling rendition of Ace of Spades, by Motorhead.

Cyke blasts wolverine free in time for Logan to jump again at his foe. Colossus focuses on holding him down, ad Nigtcrawler teleports into the fray.

"They sure aren't that talkitive…."

I walk slowly toward them, boosting their blood. The way things look now, I'd just be in the way.

"Enough!"

Darkness packed around the Orkham and then blew out suddenly, hurling all of the X-men but Colossus away. Colossus threw another punch at the Orkham. One which he simply caught. The sheer pressure that he began to apply to Colossus' wrist brought him to his knees.

"Stay there." A flood of locusts flocked around Colossus, swarming over his metallic flesh… peeling it off and devouring it. After a matter of moments, all that remained was a skeleton.

Cyclops: "Colossus!" With that, he ramped up the intensity of his optic blasts, and all but let loose on what looked like the head of the monster.

Wolverine: "Big mistake pal… Let's show these kids how the X-Men do this! HRAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!" Wolverine throws his entire body into the battle as he is blinded by his berzerker rage. He digs his claws into any fleshy substance that isn't one of his teammates.

The blast took the Orkham by surprise and staggered him, just as Wolverine leaped at him again… and was caught in mid-air. A single hand wrapped around Wolverine's head, tearing if clean off and throwing it at Nephy.

Pester sends his strongest insanity beams at Orkham while Beast goes feral and leaps all around Orkham, sending claw swipes at his eyes.

"Ah!"

I caught the head mid air and had a crazy idea. Wolverine has a healing factor right? I put the head right on the body and hoped he would start healing. At the same time, had the blood laying around batter our foe again. He was getting way to organized. Nightcrawler has also joined in, teleporting in the middle of attacks several times to daze and confuse.

The Orkham seized Beast by an arm and tore it out of the socket.

«Guess what comes next?»

Looking down on Beast as he lay on the floor in agony, the Orkham removed his helmet and… ate a large part of the hand of the arm, before throwing the rest aside and snapping Beast's neck with a kick. He turned and looked at Pester, and a smirk drew across his face after Pester's attack. He was just about to attack Pester when a mass of blood smashing into him caused him to stagger back, in time for Nightcrawler to land a blow. And another. And another. And then they stopped. Kurt started at his hands in terrified wonder.

"Mein Gott. I- I can't teleport!" he barely had time to get the words out of his mouth before his heart was removed from his chest, courtesy of a rather large spike of darkness running through it.

Wolverin began to heal.

Pester is mortified to see his heroes systematically dismembered. He moves in front of Nephy, not really sure what to do after that.

I step out from behind Pester. I need to see to know what I'm doing. Wolverine's head is still there, but I think it's attaching again. I resume my attacks.

At the same time. Cyclops, the only X-Men still standing, continues his barrage from afar.

Pester just stands around, dumbfounded. Cyclops pulls his visor off completely, and continues his barrage from afar.

The Orkham extended his arm and placed his hand before him, actually holding the blast off with one hand. Cyclops pulled his visor off and started blasting the Orkham with all of his power – an incredibly impressive sight - staggering the Orkham. But that was all it did. He regained his balance after a moment, still holding the blast off with one extended hand, and he strode to Cyclops. Cyclops took a few hesitant steps back, still blasting the Orkham, until he was seized unceremoniously by the throat. One squeeze crushed his windpipe. The Orkham dropped Cyclops’ corpse to the side disdainfully, and spotting Wolverine healing. Another fist came out of the ground, seizing Wolverine and literally reducing him to a pulp.

“They dared to challenge me? These feeble beings… I am lord. I am eternal in this night, and you children and your keepers believed that you could displace me? Cast light upon that night and drive me away?” he asked them, partially annoyed and partially amused.

“You bore me.”

The Orkham waved his hand theatrically once more. Whatever remained of Wolverine simply… wasn’t, any more. A deep black liquid oozed out of the construct, reaching Pester and Nephy’s feet.

Before either of them could act, the Orkham waved his arm again, and a large sleeve appeared where his armoured arm had been a moment ago. Shards of darkness flew out of it, pinning Pester to the nearest ‘wall’ by his clothes, and only just missing his flesh. In a heart beat- not that she could measure it as such- he was next to Nephy.

“Such a waste of potential.”

He picked her up by the throat and squeezed slightly.

William and Charon had finally reached the shore of the Styx.

“Step into the river at this point and you will find your way to your friends.”

Eying him cautiously, William still felt compelled to acquiesce. He followed Charon’s instructions, and ended up besides Nephy and Orkham.

“Erebus.”

His perception of Erebus shifted. Suddenly he appeared to be a small… child in a suit that was far to large for him. Pale white skin. Blonde hair. Frightened expression on his face. And yet, Nephy still couldn’t breathe. And yet, Nephy saw him still as the majestic self proclaimed lord of Tartarus.

All it took from William was a single punch.

The danger room buzzed slightly and then settled, the simulation ending. Beast sighed lightly in relief.

«Meh. Lackluster, but I just want this finished.»
