Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 2:41pm

Pester kicks up his feet in the control room, relaxing with an issue of National Geographic. He just sent out an announcement on the P.A. system that he was going to be manning his first training mission, and he's now kicking back with a smug grin.

«I will start when/if a few people check in. There's nothing in this mission that can't be missed, so if you check in after a couple pages have gone by I'll just catch you up to speed and you can jump right in. This will be an attempt at good natured fun.»

Checked in list:

1. Nephy
2. Kelly
3. Rapt
4. Marisol
5. Cadmus
6. Outburst
7. Zephyr

The team has been turned into animals, and must do battle on the Serenghetti! You can all still understand each other, though your voices can be affected by your modifications and new bodies. The key to this mission will be to use the strengths and weaknesses of your new bodies in an effective way. Don’t be afraid to use your teammates’ strengths as well. You do NOT have your mutant powers.

Porcupine- Kelly

Hare- Marisol

Rhino- Rapt

Horny Toad- Cadmus

Elephant- Nephy

Gazelle- Outburst

Zephyr- King Cobra

Suddenly, you all hear grunting and some screams. A few hundred feet ahead, a group of around 10 gorillas are attacking and maiming a group of 7 men, 5 women, and 4 children. The humans are unarmed. The men attempt to form a perimeter around the women and children, but it’s not likely they’ll be able to keep it up for long.

I kick a button on the console in front of me and start talking through the microphone.

"Hey guys, thanks for coming. With all the drama and such, I figured it was high time to learn something… useful…"

At this, I begin chuckling. Just a little.

Suddenly, a bright light surrounds you all. As the light subsides, you see that the environment has changed to become what looks like the plains of Africa. If you care to look down, you will see that all of you have been turned into the following animals:

Porcupine- Kelly

Hare- Marisol

Rhino- Rapt

Horny Toad- Cadmus

Elephant- Nephy

I tried giving certain characters animals that would compliment their personalities and normal powers, so the fact that Cadmus is a horny toad is not a dig at his character. You can all feel free to wiki whichever animal you got, so you have some idea of how to behave. The animals were not picked randomly, and there should always be some way of using your animal to improve the situation.

PorcuKelly makes a valiant effort, but has a hard time piercing the thick skin of the gorilla she attacked. The gorilla kicks her away lightly, but this time some of the spines stick in his skin. He hops around, grunting in minor pain. He runs off into the horizon.

9 gorillas remaining.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature

Joe is confused. He thinks he's supposed to help the people and yet… he feels empathy with the gorillas. He takes a few nervous steps towards the conflict.

Rapt manages to get up enough speed to knock one of the gorillas on it's behind. That just upsets him! The creature jumps up on Rapt's back and attempts to pull on his horn, to no avail.

As Joe gets closer, the gorillas acknowledge him, but do not attack.

3 of the gorillas take a threatening stance, and start screaming at Nelephant, while jumping angrily.

Post by Marisol Morales on Feb 21, 2007, 4:24pm

Marisol looked At Cadmus. Her hare-face was unreadable, but she felt silly being reproach.

She proceeded to skid off, circling around to the gorillas further away. Being used to wacky bodies, she had no trouble as a hare. She ran up to a gorilla.

"Hey, you…" she pointlessly squeaked, "You… You look like a duck!"

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature

Joe rushes in to protect Nephy (despite the fact that, as an elephant, she really doesn't need it.) He runs in front of the group, pivots and turns, and aims a mule-kick (well…a gazelle kick) at the jaw of one of the gorillas.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 4:27pm

Being unbearably cute, Bunnysol's taunts have little effect on the gorillas. One does however, stop attacking the humans and try to catch her, hold her, love her, keep her.

The three gorillas see Nelephant meandering on, and stop seeing her as a threat. They commence attacking the outer line of humans.

Oh, by Ares Spear, I'm so going to get killed here. I get nearish to one of the gorilla's, hopefully unseen and covered by the grass. I take aim (which is typically near perfect, but I'm a lizard now, so who knows) and restrict the blood flow in my head. A moment later streams of blood leave my eyes towards one of the gorillas' face. Eyes or mouth preferably.

I'm counting on not being seen to avoid being squashed, but if that doesn't pan out I puff up my body and hope the spiny scales convince the big guy not to grab me.

2 of the gorillas back off Nelephant, but one grabs onto her trunk. At this point he has no idea what he's doing, so he kind of just hangs on and grunts.

The gorilla chasing Bunnysol eventually gets bored, and wanders off into the sunset while picking his nose.

7 gorillas remaining.

Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 4:37pm

Toadmus' shot is dead on, and he manages to cover the gorilla's face in blood. Not being creeped out by the sight of blood, it only serves to confuse him thoroughly. He stops attacking the humans and starts sifting around in the grass, attempting to find the source of this attack.

Rhinotiir manages to bean one of the gorillas with his snout, sending him sailing. He gets up, scratches himself, puffs out his chest, then bails out on the fight. He runs off into the distance.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 4:42pm

The gorilla harassing Toadmus manages to find him, and gingerly picks him up. The gorilla holds you, loves you, and pulls you close to her (remarkably nice smelling) body.

Joe and Zephyr's gorillas take the hint and bolt, bumping into each other and stumbling over thier own feet as they run away.

Marisol tries to distract the gorilla currently holding Toadmus, but to little avail. She gives you a look of slight contempt, and starts walking toward the horizon with Toadmus.

Nelephant's all set up to mess with some of the other gorillas, until the one attached to her nose starts climbing up. He suddenly finds that he's afraid of heights, and clutches onto her face, terrified. Nelephant can't see in front of her, as he's directly in front of her eyes.

The moderately impaled gorilla releases Nelephant's face, and takes a hike. You can see him skipping off into the distance. After a mile or so, he turns around, shakes his fist at you, and runs away.

The newly bitten gorilla tumbles head over heels, then takes a hike. Toadmus is gingerly released to the ground, but not without a grunt of sadness at losing her new friend.

Nelephant's gorilla casually turns around, and nearly faints when he sees her. In attempting to run away, he stumbles over Kelly, which elicits a yelp. He hobbles off in the distance.

The final gorilla looks at Joe, Rapt, Zephyr, and Bunnysol, and knows when he's beat. He slowly and sadly sulks off into the distance.

«Snakes can also constrict. Assume Zephyr's a big one.»

The unconscious humans start to stir, and their families just look at you all with doe eyed awe.

You beat the monkeys!

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature

As Rapt bumps the 30 FOOT TALL ROBOT SPIDER there is little effect. The spider fires out a small balloon like pouch, which explodes upon contact with Rapt. A silk-like substance coats Rapt and constricts, bringing him to the ground.

Marisol hopped out of Zephyr's grasp neatly and charged the spider. Ideally, she wanted to run up along one of it's legs and start chewing on anything that looked important.

It looked quite open, and she was sure there were some kind of wires around…

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 6:18pm

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:21pm

In her survey of the legs, Bunnysol manages to come upon some large, thick wires with pneumatic fluid pulsing through them. After Bunnysol points them out to him, Zephyr's sharp teeth manage to poke holes in them. This slows the spider down somewhat, but it's still going.

At the same time, Joe's efforts don't go quite as well as he could have hoped as his antlers get tangled up with the silk, which is stronger than it looks.

Nephy trots as fast as she can out of the cave.

"There has to be something more we can do…"
She looked around on the spider, looking for something like a convenient steering column…

After Zephyr and Bunnysol tear open one of the pneumatic tubes, machinery inside the spider's abdomen whir and click. You can see through the main body that a valve has closed near the top of the tube, and the tube is just wide enough for a large snake or porcupine to crawl through.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 6:28pm

"Calling my name, huh?" I start to crawl in the tube, hoping Marisol follows after…my teeth weren't made for nibbling, so I could use those choppers.

Bunnysol doesn't find a steering column. But she does find… A rocket launcher!!! It fires a rocket toward her adorably huge feet.

Finding a large body of water, Nephy sucks as much as she can carry (fifteen quarts) She runs back to the cave and sprays it on the giant spider robot.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:32pm

The spider fires a few balls of webbing after Nelephant, but to no avail. She manages to get away.

A few smaller, eyeless, cave dwelling spiders crawl over to Raptnocerous and Joezelle. They sniff curiously at the two Superanimals.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Cheshire on Feb 21, 2007, 6:33pm

Joezelle sniffs back, just as curious. They smell…weird.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:33pm

While Nelephant's idea doesn't electrocute the spider, it does make the smooth cave floor very slippery. The spider tries to go after her, but tumbles to the ground as it is unable to gain a footing.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Marisol Morales on Feb 21, 2007, 6:34pm

Marisol zipped away to hopefully avoid the rocket. She also hoped the rocket would hit the spider instead, maybe damaging it somehow…

She wanted to follow Zephyr inside.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:35pm

The little spiders continue sniffing for a bit, before one spider turns to the other.

"These guys smell funny! Let's eat 'em!"

"I dunno… They look like they're in trouble!"

The second little spider looks up to Rapt and Joe.

"Are you guys gonna go after that guy all the way in there?"

Bunnysol manages to find her way through the tube with some trouble, but she comes upon the rear end of Zephyr. Turns out she's just ever so slightly big to fit in through to the other side, and the valve is just barely strong enough to block Zephyr.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:39pm

"Really? Alright! Ever since he forced those humans out of here, we haven't had any bodies to scavenge!"

The little spiders begin gnawing away at Rapt and Joe's bindings until they are free.

"Thank you, friends! We will make certain that your problems come to an end! Rapt, be careful not to squish them…"

Joezelle, also mindful of not squishing them, steps slowly and carefully away from the silk.

Once free, Rhinapt makes sure he has enough space and charges towards the spider now that its grip is loosened, intending to smash into it now that its on the ground.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:44pm

Rapt's attack doesn't do any damage so to speak, but it does dislodge the valve that was barring Bunnysol and Zephyr's path.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Cheshire on Feb 21, 2007, 6:44pm

Joezelle begins looking around the room we're in, trying to get a sense of all the entrances and exits, plus anything he could do to make the combat with the spider easier.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:46pm

There are no clear entrances aside from the one you guys came in through. Seeing Joezelle bouncing around, the spider fires a rocket at him.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Rapt "Roc"/Fragment/Fraternity on Feb 21, 2007, 6:46pm

Stumbling away from his futile ramming, Rhinapt takes it out by ramming the machinery in the chamber, and then stomping on it.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Cheshire on Feb 21, 2007, 6:46pm

"Eep!" Jozelle bleats, and frantically leaps out of the way.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:49pm

The machinery stops making noise as Rapt demolishes it, but other than that it doesn't have any clear effect. As he destroys it, it stops doing whatever it was doing.

The rocket misses Joe by a mile and collides with the wall behind him. The wall crumbles to pieces, revealing another tube. This one is clearly illuminated with flourescent lights.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature

Joezelle walks carefully up to the new tube, sniffing.

«How big is this…tube? Like…Internet sized?»

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:51pm

Zephyr and Marisol manage to get through the tube and destroy the heart, effectively killing the spiderbot

From inside the newly created tunnel, there is a sound of an old man crying.

«It's a full sized tunnel. Everyone can get through.»

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 6:55pm

As they step into the tunnel, they come across an old man slumped over a fizzled out console.

"Dammit! Now I can't control the apes anymore! Do you know what you've done!?!? Now I'll have to groom myself!!!"

You all hear gunshots from behind you. Turns out it's the group of humans you saw earlier, and they're all armed with rifles, including the women and children.

"Crikey! Looks like they done did all the work for us! Let's kill the old man!"

«And now you all get a birthday present, from me to you…»

Kellipine's quills get stuck in one of the children's arms, prompting a yelp from the boy. He safely runs out of the cave.

Joezelle's hooves collide violently with one of the women's collarbones, shattering it.

Zephyr's finds his mark and bites clean into the ankle of one of the men. He dies in a matter of minutes.

Bullets bounce harmlessly off Raptnocerous' horn, and he succeeds in goring 2 of the adults. The families don't seem too broken up about it. Maybe they enjoyed loveless marriages.

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on Feb 21, 2007, 7:05pm

Well, I guess the first step is to get the children and women out of her, then knock the crap out of the men…which I can't do. But, hey, this worked well before…so…

"Hey, stupid kids! And you women, too!" I slither over to them, drawing up and barring my fangs. "Get lost or I'll bite you silly!"

Re: Training Mission 11: Becoming One With Nature
Post by Pester on Feb 21, 2007, 7:07pm

The children cheer for Nephelant, and all give her hugs. One of them produces an ice cream cake, with 18 lit candles on it.

Kellipine succeeds in pricking the main Aussie's foot. Turns out he has spent too much time in caves, and has gangreen, so it hurts extra badly.

Joezelle manages to disarm the remaining humans.

Raptnocerous butchers the other adult humans (Assuming that's all he wants to butcher) and walks back to the group with a dead adult male stuck on his horn.
