"You. Let. Them. GO?" Hill's shouts are audible all the way down the hall from her office on the Hellicarier. She slams both of her hands down on her desk, glaring at Songbird.

"No," Melissa responds calmly, meeting Hill's gaze.

"So, what?"

"Sorry, I guess I lost them in all of the concussion."

Hill slaps her. Hard. Shock sets on Melissa's face, quickly replaced with a quiet rage brimming beneath the surface of her eyes.

"Trying to be funny? Trying to be smart? Don't even try," Hill warns her. "Don't even."

"You put me on a team with psychopaths!"

"You're a supervillain," Hill says bluntly, arms crossed, face blank.

"I - am- not - a- supervillain. Don't even use that word in the same sentence as me. Don't call me that. And - you put me on a team with psychopaths! Man-Killer? She didn't care about due process! She wanted to go in there, and rip them apart! Moonstone wasn't much better, either! I'm not going to have people acting like that on my team!"

"Good. That's fine." Hill sits back down, suddenly a lot calmer. Melissa looks down at her, very surprised.

"What? Seriously?"

"Yes."

"O-okay. Good."

"It's not your team anymore."

"What?" There's no anger in Melissa's voice. Just quiet shock. Hill starts shuffling through the papers on her desk, pretending to be working so that she can ignore Melissa. "Why?"

Hill looks up from her desk and fixes her eyes on Melissa. "You failed to bring the Hellions in. You willfully let them go. And for a supervillain, you're not particularly… driven, I suppose, is the most delicate word to use."

She gets up, walks past the dejected, still shocked Melissa, resting her eyes on her for a moment.

"I'm handing control of the team to Dr. Sofen. You're not off the hook, though. You still don't have your pardon - you didn't bring the Hellions in. That means that you either serve under Sofen, or you go to jail. Deal with it."

She moves to the door, opening it and standing in the doorway.

"Oh, and I'm also making some adjustments to the Thunderbolts roster."

Hill walks out, leaving Melissa sitting in the room, stunned and speechless.

"We’ve got a location direct – about five miles from here. Give us a moment and we’ll set up the transport. We’ve got the majority of the team here. The other two have made their way there on their own. They should be about three miles north of you, Moonstone. We’ll meet them when we co-ordinate the strike. MACH, over." Abner turns to the group.

"Heading after kids," he sighs. "Fear the mighty Thunderbolts."

Melissa stays at the back of the group in the van, staring out of the window, knocked out of her fugue when Atlas brushes past her, moving to Abner.

"Hey, a job’s a job. I’m happy, if I get paid. I’m not stupid enough to cross Moonstone and her weird mad on for those kids. Plus…" he pauses and grins. "You’re forgetting who we get to meet on the job."

Abner drops his head into his hands with a sigh.

"No, I haven’t forgotten. And I still don’t see why the hell we’re bringing him in on this. I mean, I know Moonstone had free choice of anyone we could get a hold of… but is she stupid, or just plain crazy? Him?"

"Lighten up, it’ll be fun."

"No, I will not lighten up, Atlas! I’m not gonna just sit here while- look, just… I’ve got a headache. Can you just clam up until we get there?"

Altas turns his hands up and walks back to his side of the back of the van.

"Fine, suit yourself, but we’ll be there in about half an hour – the forestry should take a bit of time to cut around – and then you’d better be ready to deal with him, and deal with this."

On the road again….

Even though a good enough front is being put up, it's obvious that most of them are completely weary of this. Understandable, too. After a month or so of being on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D., it's begun to take its toll on the Hellions. An end seems to be in sight, though, as they head for the X-Mansion.

"Having fun, kids?" Laynia asks, sighing the words more than saying them.

[Alright, let’s get this show on the road. Give me a minute. Oh, and;

I know that your powers of retention

But thick as you are, pay attention

But we're talking kings and successions
Even you can't be caught unawares
So prepare for a chance of a lifetime
Be prepared for sensational news
A shining new era

Yeah-heh… we'll be prepared, heh.
…For what?
[Scar:] For the death of the king.
[Banzai:] Why? Is he sick?
[Scar:] No, fool— we're going to kill him. And Simba too.
[Shenzi:] Great idea! Who needs a king?
[Shenzi (and then Banzai):]
No king! No king! lala-lala-laa-laa!

With a king who'll be all-time adored.
[Scar:] Of course, quid pro quo, you're expected
To take certain duties on board
The future is littered with prizes

The point that I must emphasize is

Someone comes into view in front of the bus. They aren’t quite close enough to be identified, but the person’s close enough for the Hellions to see that it looks like someone in a pirate costume, wearing a skull mask. Also, there’s a woman kneeling on the road, crying, whose neck he’s holding a knife to.

"What the hell? Is that a pirate?"

"Does that matter Bruce? Stop the bus!"

He does just that.

She teleports out, and is immediately knocked to the floor by a blur that then charges the bus. It bounces off violently as the forcefield comes up.

Speed Demon hits the floor, rubbing his head.

"Hill didn’t tell us about that"

The hostage gets up off of the floor, pushing the ‘pirate’ back.

"Speed Demon screwed up," she yells into a radio. "We’re hitting them now!" She turns to the ‘pirate’. "Come on, Taskmaster!"

"Whatever you say, boss-lady."

Moonstone turns to the bus and fires a force blast at it, that bounces off of the forcefield.

"The forcefield won’t stand against many more blows, and we’re sitting ducks in here!" Banner yells.

He glares at Kee’an.

"Do you think I’m stupid? The wheels are locked! Moonstone’s powers revolve around some form of gravity manipulation, she must be holding them in place!"

Speed Demon starts trying to pry the door open. When that fails, he just starts pounding on the forcefield at the door, at superspeed.

The forcefield drops for a moment, giving Kee'an the chance to do just that. It stops flickering as soon as Speed Demon's inside.

"Great. Just perfect," Moonstone sighs.

In the (relatively) closed quaters of the bus, I try to pummel him.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 12:57pm

Without any room to run, he falls easily.

"You couldn’t even get them out of the bus without us?" Man-killer asks, jumping out of MACH’s grip as he flies her in, finally joining Moonstone and Taskmaster, followed by Atlas, Radioactive Man, and Songbird. "And you lost the flit!"

"I don’t see him," MACH comments, looking over the area.

"He isn’t here yet." Moonstone grunts.

"How do you know he hasn’t just taken off?"

"He’ll be here."

"Enough talk," Man-Killer roars with a laugh, punching the forcefield and causing it to cave. "It’s dinner time!"

Darya fires at her.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 1:06pm

She grunts, taking the first bullet in the shoulder and ducking out of the way of the rest.

"We need to get off of the bus! We need it in relatively one piece, so that we don’t wind up stranded, and we’re still just sitting ducks in here as long as the wheels are locked down, especially since the forcefield’s down! I’ll try to take some of them out. Only come out if I go down, or it becomes absolutely necessary!"

He jumps out of the door, Hulking out just before he tackles Man-Killer to the floor.

"Rrr – I’m going to grind your flesh into my piecemeal and take your skull as a trophy."

Banner Hulk laughs in response. "You gonna kill me, or are you just making small talk?"

The next moment, he’s back to Banner, Chen Lu standing in front of him, having pulled all of the Gamma radiation out of him.

"Oh."

Taskmaster drops him with a punch.

That was quick.

"We have the fucking hulk on our side, but it always takes ten seconds for the bad guys to take him down god damn it!"

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 1:12pm

Completely startled by the randomness of the tactic, Chen gets knocked down by the tackle.

As soon as he’s on the floor, though, he converts ambient radiation to power himself and pushes Kee’an off.

"I have battled the Mighty Thor, boy. What challenge do you think you offer me?"

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 1:13pm

As soon as the bullets near Moonstone, she forms a gravimetric forcefield to block them. Darya feels herself get significantly heavier.

[Hey, if Magneto can do it to him, then Radioactive Man so can, too :).]

Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 1:15pm

Blinded, he reels back, but in his amped up state, the kicks don’t exactly knock his shins in. They do knock him down, though.

Kee’an finds a sword placed at his throat, courtesy of the Taskmaster.

Val grabs the The Grimorum Arcanorum before getting out of the bus. She turns to face Chen as she quickly flips through pages.

The book glows as the spell activates.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 1:18pm

The bullets wouldn’t get to her even if she could fire them. The trip up? That works better. Moonstone ends up on the floor.

"They’re kids!" Moonstone screams. "Are you telling me you can’t take out some freaking kids?"

A very large chunk of rock breaks off from the ground, and she uses her gravity powers to hurt it at them.

"Five hundred grand each, and a presidential pardon just for taking them in, and you can’t even handle that?"

Magic’s a tricky thing. Every act has repercussions, consequences. Every spell has a cost. Maybe it won’t come today. Maybe it won’t come tomorrow. But it will, someday.

And it doesn’t always go the way you want.

Radiation starts pouring out of him. He retains enough to remain conscious, to remain coherent, but not to do much else. He drops to the floor.

The radiation, however? It’s not quite so docile. Moving down the spectrum into pure wave energy, it rains back down onto both sides, piercing MACH’s armour and taking him both out of the air and the fight, just as it comes down on the Hellions, too.

Atlas catches MACH.

"Shouldn’t’ve done that."

Darya dodges it for the most part, but about a quarter of her takes the hit.

A sword considerably more impressive than Taskmasters slashes lightly at Valerie’s back, barely piercing the skin. More out of intent than lack of skill.

"You’re here," Moonstone comments upon seeing him.

She’s speaking to this guy , the guy who slashed at Valerie.

"I said I would be, didn’t I? Or did you think I was lying?"

Taskmaster pulls the shield up to block the elbow, but the force still drives it into his ribs, breaking one. Grunting from the pain, he forces Kee’an up slightly with the shield, and slips out from underneath him.

She starts the long scaling, hanging on, unravelling her arm to the longest length, grasping the knife and whipping it above. Of course he was going to feel it, she meant for him to feel it. Once the knife was in, she ravel her arm back, dragging herself up.

"Argh!"

As the pain registers in his mind, he makes a mental note to come prepared for magic next time. The pain isn’t comparable to some he’s felt, but it’s still a distraction. And it still hurts.

He slashes her on the cheek, cutting very shallowly, before driving the handle into her ribs.

Atlas swipes at Darya again, missing again.

Songbird hasn’t done anything yet. She stands there, watching the rest. Moonstone, rising to her feet again, slaps her on the back of the head.

"Get involved. Drop a few."

She continue the climb, once she reaches his neck, she try reverting to string form, wrapping around his neck, choking him until he fall unconscious.

Val gets the wind knocked out of her as the sword connects, but she stays standing.

"Demona did teach me one thing worthwhile."

Now that he was closer the ring glows again. "Flames."

"She taught me how to fight through pain."

When she wraps around his throat, she’s finally in reach. He grabs at her, and tries to pull her off. It takes a few attempts, and by then, she’s already been there for a good half minute. He remains in his full stature, trying to keep at his strongest. His innards don’t agree with this take. Trying to escape the hold, his oesophagus automatically decreased in size.

He throws her off, but by now, due to the smaller oesophagus, he isn’t getting enough air. He falls unconscious with a mighty thud.

Too bad I feel like I broke my elbow.

"Ahhh…"

I try to grab and toss him before he gets to far, beacuse I ain't moving.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning

He moves slightly late, and his right side gets scorched. A growl follows.

"I’m sure it won’t matter if one of you urchins comes back dead."

He holds his sword out, and is about to run it through her when Songbird hits her with a sonic cry, throwing her back and shattering the sword at the same time.

"Sorry. My aim was a little off."

With a cracked rib, Taskmaster, despite all his skill, isn't moving too quickly. Kee'an throws him against the bus and knocks him out.

Darya spreads herself out, a long length of string, her mass spread. Still hitting the ground hurt, alot.

She ravels herself back.

"Ow, ow, ow…"

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Valerie Sinclair on Jul 2, 2007, 2:01pm

Val hits the ground. Hard.

"Ow…"

"Proventus vestri torqueo." [Increase your torment.]

That should increase the pain that Citizen V is feeling from the earlier spell, hopefully it will increase it dramatically.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 2:04pm

Darya: Right next to the rising Chen Lu.

The pain is almost dizzying. However, he’s not the only one who feels it. It runs into Songbird too, who almost faints from it and accidentally starts screaming, knocking Citizen V out and knocking Valerie off of her feet again, her vision swimming.

She tries to shoot him on the shoulder as he rises.

The bullet burns away on contact.

"That was stupid."

He slaps her, not having enough radiation at the moment to launch a proper attack.

A small blue spot appears over the horizon and keeps getting larger as it grows closer. Before anyone can make out what it was a truck flies at Chen Lu as a tree is pulled from the ground and flies at Songbird.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Joshua/Darya/Kara/Marcus on Jul 2, 2007, 2:10pm

Darya face turns to string form, and forms back. She sees the truck heading for Chen Lu.

"Look out, behind you."

She'll try smacking him with the pistol if he does look behind.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jul 2, 2007, 2:12pm

The truck nails Chen Lu in the back, knocking him out. The tree swipes at Songbird, but she breaks most of it off with a sonic cry. When it connects, she barely remains conscious.

As the tree breaks under the force of Songbird's cry, the blue gets brighter and huge as it comes up right on her and Shaman tries to tackle her at full force.

She stares impassively as Chen Lu gets hit by the truck, her hair flying. Then she reloads her gun.

"Anybody left?"

Darya also nails him in the back of the head with her gun.

Re: The Hellions #15 - Interlude III - Lightning

Shaman finds himself grounded as a crushing gravitational force affects him, at the same time as a forceblast hitting him in the back.

"Kids! We can’t handle kids?"

Moonstone rips off another part of the road – much, much larger this time. Think of ten Hulks size. It floats above her head.

"And it takes this much to take you down? You’re just kids! Just kids! I’m not going to be beaten- by- kids!"

Melissa nails her in the back with a sonic cry, and the rock falls down on Moonstone.

"Yeah. You are."

She drops, too.

[Leave it… I really don't need an argument on that here. It doesn't matter that much. It was a car instead.

But tone it down a little in the future, Grey. He's not wrong. A truck, at that speed, is beyond what he should be able to do.]

«Mine weighs less then two

And I didn't really mean to imply any speed, more like he's flying towards them, sees a truck on the road, picks it up, throws it»

Shaman hits the ground, his field barely holding up. His pack shooting in pain from the feedback as he rolls over and sees what happened.

"She was on our side? I shouldn't have thrown the tree?"

Banner finally wakes up, and with Chen Lu out of it, he Hulks out immediately.

"I really, really hate it when people do that."

Grabbing Laynia, he takes her back onto the bus, before going back out and punting Chen Lu a few miles away.

"Sorry about that. We can carry on to the mansion. Sorry about dropping so easily, too."

He looks at the rest of the Thunderbolts.

"You took them down all by yourself? Seriously? That’s… that’s impressive. Huh. I guess it’s your choice what we do with them."

His eyes fall on Darya.

"Barring anything lethal. I won’t advocate murder."

[They don't have to be broken >_>. I think you over did your punishment of him :).]
