Banner asleep rather soundly in the back of the bus [a group of teenagers on the run in a bus, in a deserted-ish area… where have we heard that one before? Blame Last for that one, not me ^_^!], the Hellions roll into town with style, where night's already fallen, and the streets are pretty much deserted.

There are four buildings that stick out in the 'scape of the town. A rather ornate church for such a little place, a mayoral hall, the police department, and what's probably the mayor's house. It's large enough for it.

"Alright. Where do you want to go, kids?"

She walks over to Banner and shakes him a little.

"Wake up, Bruce. We're here."

"Mmhh?"

"Up."

"Yes'm."

She turns back to the Hellions with a sigh.

"So, where to?" she asks as she walks off of the bus.

"Mm?" he asks, opening an eye blearily as he walks off of the bus. "No. Thanks for the offer, though." He smiles wanly at Doreen. "She'll be alright once she's done with her mad-on… she was just pretty close to her friends, the 'Winter Guard'."

"Mayoral Hall? One second, I'll teleport in ahead of you." She's gone an a rush of Darkforce the next moment.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 15, 2007, 8:26pm

She teleports back the next moment. With no light to blind her after re-emerging from the Darkforce dimension, she comes out completely unphased.

"Lights out. No-one's home, kids."

"Golly…?" He shakes his head and takes the glasses that he doesn't actually need unless he's doing his Giles impression off.

"So I guess we're just going to stand around here all day?" Laynia asks.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Alexander "Cadmus" Baptiste on Jun 15, 2007, 8:34pm

"A minor technicality…"

If she waited a minute to pop back out I would have been able to take money from yet another Hellion. Curses.

"The police department, I guess. It's not like we don't already have SHIELD on our asses. I suppose it would be a little silly to worry too much about local authorities at this point."

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 15, 2007, 8:36pm

She glances off at the P.D.

"Lights are on in there… so I hope you don't mind if I don't teleport in. I kind of have a problem with teleporting into well-lit places." She starts walking over to the P.D., expecting the others to follow.

Once inside, she's met by the gawking stares of two police officers on watch. Not quite the lecherous glances that Emma Frost got, but enough to make her embarrassed enough to run back out, leaving the Hellions and Banner in there.

"You know… I'm not to happy about that tone," Banner says, planting his hands on the desk in front of the police officer, his eyes beginning to glow green. "Don't you think you could be a little more helpful?"

"Uhm… what did you want again?" The police officer asks Alexander with an audible gulp.

[I just realised what he was calling convenient. Thought he meant something else :).]

Laynia teleports them to the other side of town, and then… collapses pretty much as soon as she has. Banner darts over to her warily, and drags her to safety.

The Hellions are greeted by this;

Greeted by it approaching a boy of about thirteen years… and literally melding it into its form.

[Think the temporal woman of Obsidian Age.]

[[Recap:

The Hellions roll into Gaia after hearing of the unreported disappearances the have been occurring there, with Prometheus' modus all over it, according to Banner. Even when he warns them that it's most definitely bait being laid out, they insist on going.

Once they get to the town, they head for the Police Department, where, after some 'convincing', they're told about 'rumours of some monster of the earth that devours you and absorbs your soul'. Like the happy-go-lucky little group that they are, they head back out to find this monster and try to stop it, kill it, whatever.

It doesn't take long - Laynai opens portals all over the town and spreads out Darkforce tendrils, while removing her inhibitor headband that decreases the strength of the symbiotic link between the Darkforce and herself. When they find the monster, she teleports the group there, and collpases from the strain.

They find the monster just as it absorbs a boy into itself. Think the temporal woman from JLA Obsidian Age. When Alexander tries to attack it, he finds that there's something wrong with their powers - Kee'an seems to have Squirrel Girl's, Squirrel Girl seems to have Casey's, and Alexander seems to only be as strong as Kee'an. Banner Hulks out, tries to attack the monster, and gets knocked out of sight. After knocking the group out, the monster slinks away.

The group wakes up in the town lock up, minus Banner.]]

With the Darkforce energy solidified around Laynia, Banner snaps the tendril and pulls it out of his chest, healing around it.

"Nuts? Where?" I'm kind of hungry, I could go for some lunch…

Banner-Hulk sighs and cradles his head in a giant hand, before jumping over the church.

"Remind me never to have children."

"Okay."

I don't notice. I doubt Kee'an will until he needs no. 1.

"Okay, you live for now."

I Squirrel my way toward the church.

A moment later, the church collapses on itself.

"Gah! What happened to the church!"

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:36pm

Banner picks himself up out of the mess of the church… and then collapses again, changing into his human form.

The Hellions have a clear view of a string of people hung up on a wall, looking like they've been there for weeks, wasting away, with the thing with its arm in the chest of one of them. They all start glowing in harmony.

"Oh jesus tapdancing christ."

Wreck tries to dissolve the person with the arm stuck in him. Not like it can hurt him much worse than he is already.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:41pm

Instead of dissolving him, Wreck shoots out a burst of light that blows a hole in the guy. The thing turns his attention to Wreck, looking particularly displeased.

As any young, impetuous teen would do with new powers, Jesse tries to teleport the creature into the sun.

I…try and whack him with my tail. I go with what works.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:43pm

A Hulk-like jump carries it over to Wreck, and it swats at him. The people strung up start glowing again, and so does the thing when it attacks Wreck.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:44pm

Doreen's tail bounces off rather ineffectually, but Jesse manages to teleport it a good few miles up into the air.

It lands on its head. It bounces.

Oddly enough, they find that they get the same creepy glow when they attack.

Banner begins to stir.

Once I see everyone start going, I do like Dorren says and… run away.

The unconscious Laynia retreats into the Darkforce through the force of her subconscious will.

It gets back to its feet and… oddly enough, summons an army of squirrels to assail Jesse.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Jesse "Masstress" Buchanon on Jun 16, 2007, 9:49pm

"But we came all this way!"

Jesse's seen Wreck do some kind of freaky dissolving trick, so she tries to do the same to the glowing corpses.

"Hey, it's Tippy Toe's little sis. How ya… Aieee!"

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:49pm

The people who are stringed up seem to fade into energy entirely. Energy that rushes into everyone around… who's still living.

Banner gets to his feet and Hulks out again.

Post by sam2 on Jun 16, 2007, 9:50pm

"Oh this is so stupid….

Hey squirrels! Don't attack us! We're your friends!"

Somehow, I know squirrels are nice now. I just do.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:51pm

Darkforce energy bursts out of Jesse and knocks the thing to one side. It gets back up and picks Doreen up telekinetically, and slams her back down again.

The Hellions start to feel as if they're sort of… just fading away… if they look at themselves, or each other, they'll see that they've started to turn into the same kind of energy the corpses did.

The squirrels stop and obey Kee'an.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:56pm

Banner-Hulk hammers the thing with a blow that staggers it, even in the strange energy form that it's taken on. It releases its grip on Squirrel Girl, and another blow knocks it to the floor.

Unless anybody objects, Jesse will move to teleport her team away. And the squirrels, if they're fading away as well.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 9:58pm

The squirrels charge at the thing, keeping it busy enough for the Hulk to land a few more blows, but it's becoming obvious that this is the point at which the Hellions may need to pile it on.

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 10:00pm

Jesse's attempt at teleporting comes out as a burst of energy that blows some of the thing away.

Jesse does whatever the hell she's able to do now. Everything and anything. She just puts her arms out and clenches.

Eh, why not. It's worth a shot.

"Hey Bonesy! You know why our powers and shit are freakin' out?"

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 10:05pm

Wreck's blast doesn't come as the light he was firing a moment ago, but as the same sort of energy as Jesse just fired out. All of the Hellions fade entirely away into it. The monster tries to fight back, but it's a losing battle against the combined assault of the Hellions. It sends a burst out to oppose the Hellions, but it dissipates like it was nothing. Like the monster starts too…

Boom.

Boom?

A shockwave of energy rips through the entire town, searing most of the flesh away from the Hulk's bones, and ripping through the buildings, tearing them to pieces.

After the carnage settles, the Hellions reform, unconscious, the thing gone, and Banner-Hulk barely conscious, healing… healing… healing.

Hours later, a very human Banner comes to, and glances at the carnage around him.

"Oh, hell."

He begins the arduous task of dragging all of the Hellions to the safety of the bus… checking the town for any survivors… and getting them the hell out of there.

[That's it for today. All that's left are the epilogues.]

Re: The Hellions #12: Quiet Little Dusks
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Jun 16, 2007, 10:08pm

Epilogue 1:

The repeated sound of a pen tapping a desk top echoes through the other wise silent office. The chair swivels around to face the door as it opens and someone walks in.

"Liam. Report?"

He clears his throat and drops a file onto her desk.

"The trigger worked perfectly, and even though the specimen was far from ideal - one of the castaways from the original experimentation of Project: God Flame, it did the job wonderfully. The town's accumulative energies were problematic, to say the least. We didn't expect their Gaia worship to hold any actual grounds - but it set off the 'energy bomb', rather than impeded it."

"So they're out of the way." Shiva states it, instead of asking.

"Well…" he starts, hesitantly.

"Well, what?"

"Well, we can't be sure. Nothing that was left would have been identifiable. It doesn't matter, though. They already have SHIELD on their tails, and if they made it out, they'll be far to busy to bother us."

"You should hope so."

***

Epilogue 2:

"Oh, my god…" Binary touches down on the scorched earth, kneeling down and running her fingers along the ground.

"Be careful, Carol. Energy residue. We don't know what kind of fall-out there could be from this," Iron Man warned her.

"This couldn't have been them, Tony. There's no way."

"Face it, Carol. Emma's kids have gone too far. We've got to shut them down." His hand moves to his visor as if he considers lifting it, before thinking better of it.

"No, they couldn't have done this… forget Frost, Xavier wouldn't let anyone who would do something like this onto a field team," Binary insists, looking up at Stark.

"Obviously, he has. Accept it, Carol. The Hellions just became Avengers priority."
