Shrinking #1 - Kelly
Post by Star/Muse on Jan 29, 2007, 10:41pm

*Co-op work between me and Proto. Proto was the shrink. I think it would be interesting if other people did little fan-fics with there characters going to see a shrink also - make it a part of the mini-series.*

Cover description:

Kelly sitting in a chair, surrounded by Wildfire, Meghan, Jay, Kidd, Erebus, Blind, Jesse, Nicolette and Dillan.

The intercom buzzed, "Send the patient in."

"Dr. Spooner will see you now," the Receptionist said.

The young mutant nodded politely.

"Thank you, miss."

Kelly walked on through into the office.

"Have a seat, Ms. Thorely."

Kelly sat down in the chair opposite the doctor, and put her backpack down next to her. "Please, call me Kelly."

"Alright, Kelly. I understand that you have been having some problems in your personal life."

She sighed deeply and leaned back in the chair, thinking. "It's not so much that. Really, it's every single aspect. It's change. Change… I don't do well with it, apparently."

Dr. Spooner made a few notes in a small notebook. "Tell me about this change, Kelly. Start from the begining."

She linked her hands together, before looking down on them distastefully, and unlinking them.

"Well… a few months ago, my parents decided to move. Neither of them really had to work. We moved out from England to Chicago. They… well, because neither of them had to work, they generally did things on a whim - which was why they decided to move. Just for the change of pace from their last twenty or so years. We all began to settle in, and just when we had… there was the earthquakes."

"Ah yes, the quakes." He continued to make notes in his notebook. "What happened during the 'quakes?"

"What happened during the 'quakes?" she looked back at him incredulously. "My… my family died, my home was destroyed, and I was left with nothing. Nothing but a few pictures that I managed to salvage from the wreckage."

"Hmm, that is terrible. I'm sorry for your loss," Dr. Spooner responded. "Tell me what happened after."

"I was… found by a man named Shinobi Shaw. He took me in, and put me along side several other people roughly my age who had no where to go.

Dr. Spooner looked shocked, "Shinobi Shaw of the Hellfire Club?"

She looked at him a little blankly. "Yes."

"Interesting…" He said. "I am a member of the Club."

Shifting uncomfortably in her seat, Kelly looked back at him, a little cautiously, a little afraid. "Oh… I didn't know that."

"Oh, my dear. Don't be afraid, I'm only a member by birth. I've never even seen the building. Anyway, continue. What happened at the Club?"

"I- I, uh… the Club was filled with corruption. Corruption and deceit, everywhere in it. Everyone said it was going to collapse on itself. We found out things about Mr. Shaw… that he was a criminal and a murderer - that he even killed his own father."

"Yes, but what happened to you personally? We aren't here to discuss the dealings of Shinobi Shaw."

She shifted in her seat again. This wasn't something she wanted to talk about, to be honest.
"I… I met people of the likes I never had before. I saw hate for the first time in my life, and I experienced… changes to myself, albeit temporary, that were frightening."

He wrote a bit more in his notebook. "Kelly, you need to give me details if you want to work through this. You can't be vague."

She sighed again. "Then I have to show you something." Lifting one hand, she held it palm up, and a spark of light jumped and ran between her forefinger and thumb."

The Docter didn't look at all shocked. "So, you're a mutant? A few of my other patients are as well."

"Those other people that Mr. Shaw took in? They were all mutants also."

"Hmm, I'm intrigued. Do continue."

"He made a team out of them - to serve him. He named it the Hellions."

He continued to write in his notebook, silently. He looked up at Kelly, waiting for her to continue.

Noticing that the doctor paused for her to continue, she pressed on. "Pretty much the first mission he sent us on was to fight another teenage team - the New Mutants."

"Who emerged from the battle victorious?"

Kelly faltered, and closed her mouth, before deciding against it. "No-one… not really. One of the Hellions lost control and attacked both sides - after hospitalising one of the New Mutants…"

"Was this the battle on Coney Island?"

Kelly nodded silently.

He nodded in response. "Alright, enough about the fighting. You're here to work through your problems, therefore we need to discuss your personal relationships."

She cocked her head to one side and looked at the doctor questioningly. "What do you mean?"

"You know, friends, boyfriends. We need to discuss them and any problems they may have caused you."

She shook her head and a sign of despair crept across her face. "Do we really have to?"

"Yes, I'm afraid we do. It's clear that something there has hurt you, we need to get it out in the open or you'll never move past it."

She looked down at the floor and shrugged. "Okay. Where do you want to start? There's not that much to say."

"Start from the begining."

"The beginning? Is there actually a beginning? I mean, you want me to go through my personal relationships with people - surely that just goes from person to person?"

"Alright," He smiles. "Why don't you start with your first boyfriend."

Kelly frowned slightly at this. "My first boyfriend, or my first boyfriend since Mr. Shaw took me in?"

"Why don't you start with your first boyfriend," He asked her.

"There's not much to say, really. Boy meets girl, etc., both of them realise that they're not that into each other and part on mutual terms."

He added more to the notebook. "Alright, moving along then. What about your first boyfriend at the Hellfire Club?"

She winced slightly, but noticeably. "His name was Jay. He… I don't know, really. I had… problems. All of which he stood by me through… helping me through them-"

"Continue, you're making progress."

"And then he slept with my best friend," she told him flatly.

The doctor didn't hide his suprise. "I see, I could be cliché and ask you how that makes you feel, but that is quite clear."

"I think it's important for me to tell you that I'm past that, now… I don't want it to define me…"

"I can see that, you're a strong young lady Kelly." He glanced at his watch. "I'm afraid our time is up for this session. Next time I would like to begin with your friend. Same time next week?"

She nodded slightly. "Sure, Dr. Spooner." Picking up her backpack, she headed for the door. "I'll see you next week."

I wanted Doc Samson, but Proto didn't.

See Proto? See?

Well if he had used the good Doc, all of Kelly's problems would've been solved in one session.
