Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 1:18am

There's a bunch of unfinished technology laying around, along with a few burn marks in the floor from Rowdy's earlier customizations.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 9, 2007, 9:00am

I knock firmly on the door.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 9:18am

Pester opens it on up. "Heya Billy. I see California's been good to you," he says noticing a very faint tan.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 9, 2007, 9:22am

"Hm. No-one will ever use my actual name, will they?" I smile faintly. "Then again, I'm saying this to someone who's actively requested others to call him 'Pester'."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 9:26am

A shrug precedes the requisite non-argumentative grunt. "Can't argue the facts. I don't mind a social call," He clears the doorway, "But I don't recall that being your style."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 9, 2007, 9:28am

"Not quite, no, I'll admit." I take a step forwards, but hang in the doorway, leaning against the frame.

"So you're taking the reigns over from Amelia."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 9:33am

Pester misses the personal symbolism of Damien being half in the room, but not entirely. He does however cringe at his mention of leadership.

"That's what they tell me."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 9, 2007, 9:35am

"You're not looking forward to it, then."

It comes off as more of a statement than a question.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 9:40am

"Uh… I'd say I'm more worried about it then anything. I didn't trust my judgment when it only effected me, now I'm not going to trust it when it effects an entire team of people, plus whoever we're helping at the time. It's a lot of pressure."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 9, 2007, 9:42am

"Hm…"

I glance away, studying the burn marks on the floor.

"You're familiar with ostracism, I assume?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 9:44am

Pester gives Damien a strange look. "Hey man, I'm not into whips and chains. If that's your thing then great, but it's not my cup of tea."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 9, 2007, 9:59am

I smile slightly.

"I take it you're not, then. Ostracism… was an attempt at balance in Ancient Athens after people became jaded with the rule of tyrants. It was a form of forced exile from the city, one that would last for ten years. It was done through a… simplified, somewhat faulty way of 'voting'. Usually, the targets were people in positions of power. After its introduction it went a long time before it was used, but when it finally was, it was a rather constant occurrence."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 12:55pm

"Oh… I think I get what you're saying."

A moment goes by.

"Actually, I'm not sure. You could dumb it down a little today, it's been kind of a long week. Braino not work so goodo, you know?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Kelly Alecia "Star" Lisa on May 9, 2007, 1:10pm

Damien

“Despite all appearances, though Athens had a ‘government’ that worked, to an extent, the city was still in disarray. The typical citizen would not know this; it was hidden well. No matter how they hid it, though, it was the case. Until Themistocles came into power, leading the city through the time of war with Persia.

Themistocles restructured the city and its democracy, and reinforced its military forces, most notably the navy. He effectively remade Athens into what may have been the most competent incarnation of the city since its inception. Not long after the wars, he fell out of favour with the people. Do you know what they did?”

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 1:12pm

Pester tries to think of the information in a way that it would matter to his current mindset.

"He… Lost all his confidence?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Kelly Alecia "Star" Lisa on May 9, 2007, 1:14pm

Damien

“Actually, his confidence was surprisingly unwavering. No, the people had him ostracised.”

I pause with a sigh.

"I suppose that my point is… Amelia was no Themistocles. Be careful, Joshua, and fare well for yourself."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 1:18pm

"Amelia was no… You didn't think she did that great of a job? Or you're saying she wasn't ostricized?"

Pester's brows knit with the tension of understanding.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Kelly Alecia "Star" Lisa on May 9, 2007, 1:25pm

Damien

“Amelia did a good job. But there’s a difference between a good job and a great job. See you later, Themistocles,” I say, turning around and walking out of the door.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 9, 2007, 1:29pm

"Uh… I'll see you later. Thanks."

Pester decides to jump on Google and try to find out exactly why Themistocles was ostricized. A few minutes of searching later, and he found the answer.

"Huh."

Knock knock.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 12:54pm

Pester slowly rises from his bed, walks over to the door and opens it. He is relatively successful at hiding his scowl, to anyone else it would just look like he's tired, rather than dealing with mental trauma.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 12:55pm

"Hey…"

She smiles.

"Thanks."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:08pm

Pester seems to flinch a bit. This was pretty unexpected.

"Huh?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:09pm

"You protected me…if you hadn't I probably would have been seriously hurt."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:12pm

He dispassionately says, "Oh, you mean that. Sorry, forgot about that. It's no big deal, I'm sure anyone would've done something similar, if not quite so self destructive." Pester glances around the room. "You can come on in if you like, I wasn't doing anything important."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:13pm

"Okay."

Alexia steps into the room.

"What else happened after I was out? No one will tell me."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:16pm

Nobody will talk about it. I wonder what implications that has. Maybe they're trying to be considerate, maybe they're ashamed of you. Considering their respective track records, probably the latter…

"Nothing too important," Pester says as he nudges his still bloodstained sword under his bed. "We met a couple of the Avengers. That was pretty cool. Turns out you beat up Black Panther."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:18pm

"Oh, alright then…" Alexia isn't sure what to say. "I beat up the Black Panther? Whoops…"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:20pm

"Ah, don't worry about it," he says with a dismissive wave. "He looked more guilty than anything. At least I think so, it's hard to tell through that mask."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:25pm

Alexia sits down on the bed.

"Well, anyway, thank you."

She pats the spot next to her on the bed.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:26pm

Shades of yesterday come into sight.

He sits down next to her and fidgets with his fingers a bit.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:28pm

"Josh, I think we need to talk about something…"

She looks rather nervous.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:30pm

Did you do something stupid while I was away?

Pester's eyebrows knit with duress.

"Uh… Okay."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:32pm

"I haven't made a final decision yet, but I'm considering taking a leave of absence."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:33pm

"Oh.

"…

"For how long? Why? Did something happen?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:35pm

"I'm not sure, and no, nothing happened. At all. I just kind of want to see what the world is supposed to be like. I've seen it at it worst, why not see it now?"

She sighs.

"I'd never ask you to come with me, I wouldn't want you to leave the team."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:37pm

Funny, you didn't even think about going with her. You're an awful boyfriend, Pester.

"I guess… Yeah, that makes sense. And I couldn't really go, so many people seem to be running off as it is. I mean, I'm just glad it's nothing too important, I kinda thought you were mad at someone or something."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:40pm

"No, not mad about anything. In fact, I feel really bad for even considering leaving."

Alexia looks sad.

"But…I'll be back, if I go. I promise."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:42pm

"Well… Hey, everyone takes off for a little while around here."

You've started a dangerous trend.

"I'll keep everyone alive while you're gone, you won't miss a thing."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:43pm

"You'd better."

She smiles weakly.

"You'll be the first to know when I make the final decision."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:45pm

"Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you should do it. There's a lot to experience outside the walls of this dump. There are a lot of nice things out there… Or so people keep telling me. Whatever, the point is if you don't take a vacation from this place every now and then you might get stuck in a rut. Taking a vacation can only be good for you."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:50pm

Her smile looks a bit more legitimate.

"You're right, you know? I should stop thinking about it and just do it. It's the right decision…I'm gonna go."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 1:53pm

A meager, imitating smile comes over him.

"Good, I'm glad. And then when you come back you'll have a new perspective, or something."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 1:56pm

"Something like that…I guess I'll be taking off in the next week or so then. I'll make sure to talk to Rogue first…"

Should I ask if he wants to…

Alexia is suddenly blushing.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 2:13pm

She must be nervous about talking to Rogue. I wonder why?

"Don't worry about it, I think it'll all turn out alright."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 2:18pm

"Yeah…it will…"

I'm gonna…no…yes…no…

"Josh…do you wanna…?"

Alexia turns an even deeper shade of red.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 2:21pm

"Hm? Well I don't think you have anything to be afraid of, Rogue never hurt anyone around here. But if you're nervous about talking to her, I'm fine backing you up."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 2:21pm

"I…that's not what I meant…."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 2:26pm

"Oh. Guess I misunderstood. What did you mean then?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 2:27pm

What was I thinking? I can't do this…

"Nothing, don't worry about it."

Phew…crisis avoided.

"I'll send you a postcard from every stop on my trip."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 19, 2007, 2:32pm

"Awesome. I don't have nearly enough postcards and pretty pictures and stuff."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 19, 2007, 2:43pm

Alexia smiles.

"You will. I'm gonna get going and get my trip planned."

She kisses him before getting up and heading for the door.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 21, 2007, 5:29pm

After talking to Rogue and Marisol, Alexia knocks on the door. She has two packed suitcases with her.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 21, 2007, 5:31pm

Pester's voice, sounding far away and detached, answers from within the room.

"Come in, it's open!"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 21, 2007, 5:31pm

Alexia walks in, dragging the suitcases behind her.

"Hey, I'm taking off…"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 21, 2007, 5:34pm

Alexia's voice trails off as she sees that there doesn't seem to be anybody in the room. The shades to the window are drawn, and no sunlight seeps into the room. Pester's muffled, faceless voice can be heard:

"Really? Now? Actually this is great timing, I was just about to show you something awesome I've been experimenting with…"

Alexia hears something that sounds like a sinister chuckle, from some dark corner of the universe…

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 21, 2007, 5:35pm

"Josh…? What's going on?"

She instinctivly forms her katana.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 21, 2007, 5:38pm

He starts grunting with supreme effort. "Alright… Get ready… Hrg! Hnnnn! Arg!"

At that, Pester manages to jump out from behind the heavy new lead windowshades he hung in his room.

"Wow! That's much better! Now I won't have the sun shining directly in when I'm trying to sleep. I'll make you one if you like, just have to get some more scrap metal. Anyway, what were you saying?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 21, 2007, 5:41pm

The katana vanishes.

"God…you scared me."

She laughs.

"I'm taking off now."

Alexia gestures to the suitcases.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 21, 2007, 5:43pm

Pester's sweatstained face falls a bit.

"Oh, alrighty. Well I'll take your stuff down, I'd have to be a scumbag not to."

He moves to pick up the suitcases.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 21, 2007, 5:45pm

"Wait…"

Alexia moves in and kisses Pester.

"I thought you were okay with this…"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 21, 2007, 5:50pm

Pester looks at her for a moment before he puts his left arm around her waist. He leans her far back and locks his lips to hers, while his right hand runs through her hair. After holding her there for a moment, he stands her back up.

"Sure I'm okay with it, doesn't mean I can't be sad that you're leaving. Now come on, tell me where I'm taking these bags."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 21, 2007, 5:59pm

Alexia blushes a bit. "Wow…"

After a few moments she collects herself.

"Downstairs, I've got a cab waiting…"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 21, 2007, 6:01pm

He picks up the suitcases, pretending they aren't tearing his shoulders out of socket. Pester walks out the door.

"Let's roll."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Lex "Heatwave" Serden on May 21, 2007, 6:02pm

"Thanks…"

She follows him downstairs.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 21, 2007, 10:11pm

When Pester gets downstairs, he tosses the suitcases into the trunk of the waiting cab.

"A strong man am I, for I hath lifted thine girly articles."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 23, 2007, 1:56pm

I knock on the door.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 23, 2007, 1:59pm

Pester opens the door with a slight amount of gloom. He's been somewhat missing his woman.

"Ah, Captain Kangeroo. I see you've come for a sampling of some fine wine. Well then I must tell you, you're in the wrong place entirely. This is just my room."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 23, 2007, 2:02pm

"Wine? Seriously? Give me a break. After that crap the last time I drank, I'm sticking away from it for a while. I found out that no durability means that my constitution and metabolism's somehow out of whack, too. Not looking to have my head invaded again anytime soon."

I nod at him and then shift my eyes across the room.

"Actually, if you've got anything a little- no."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 23, 2007, 2:07pm

Pester stares and blinks for a moment.

"Ooookey dokie. I guess a bullet does count as an "invader," if that's how we're gonna play it."

Pester glares into the sunglasses, as if challenged by the fact that he can't see the eyes.

"Those freaking things are unnerving as hell. Do you need them indoors, in the middle of the day? Xavier's spending thousands a week on electricity, and it's all going to waste on you."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 23, 2007, 2:10pm

"Well… yes."

Let's not tell him about me, 'kay?

Fine, Ghost, fine.

I take the glasses off with a grin and fold them in the palm of my hand.

"What? You don't like my sunglasses?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 23, 2007, 2:13pm

"Like them or not they… Freak me out. And really…"

Pester waves his hand around at the walls, concrete, and the heavy metal shade hanging over his window. He then shuts off the light, and both of them are enveloped in pure darkness. Turning on the lights again, "I dunno, it's impractical."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 23, 2007, 2:16pm

I put it in my jacket pocket.

"Fine, but practicality is boring. So - why don't you tell me why I've been hearing about the New Mutants team leader freaking out on everyone?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 23, 2007, 2:19pm

"Hmph. Leader for a week and already I'm setting a great example."

Pester walks over to his desk and starts setting up his X-Men figures. He hasn't gotten a chance to play with them in awhile.

"Hm… Here, you can be Omega Red."

Pester hands Damien his Omega Red figure, while holding onto his Cyclops.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 23, 2007, 2:20pm

I look at the Omega Red figure for a moment before throwing it over my shoulder, onto his bed.

"Let's not have you change the subject, hm?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 23, 2007, 2:22pm

Pester glares at Damien for a moment. The possibility of violence is averted when he sees that the figure is unharmed. He picks up a Mr. Sinister figure and sets him up on his desk, standing with his hands on his hips.

"I don't know if I'd call it a freakout…"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 23, 2007, 2:23pm

"Well, what would you call it?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 23, 2007, 2:26pm

Pester shrugs and grunts with annoyance. "Losing any and all semblence of control due to some little pissant and his "minor changes,"" He drops the figures and does exaggerated finger quotes with his hands. "Nearly killing somebody, plus I could've hurt somebody on the team. Freakout doesn't seem quite as all encompassing a term as would be appropriate, I don't think."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 23, 2007, 2:28pm

I don't say anything for a couple of minutes. That's because I'm thinking. I do break the silence eventually, though.

"Grab a coat and meet me outside the Mansion in an hour."

I walk out of the room.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 23, 2007, 2:29pm

Pester doesn't speak for those minutes, instead opting to build a better world in his imagination through use of his figures. If Damien has something to say, he'll say it when he wants to.

I toss a pair of cufflinks at Joshua's chest for him to catch.

Re: Pester's room.

Pester doesn't blink as the cufflinks bounce off his chest, and roll under a dresser. He gives Damien a minor stinkeye before crawling onto the floor and fishing around for them.

"Is this the part of the story where we randomly begin throwing things at each other?"

Re: Pester's room.

"You, sir, live dangerously."

Pester looks at the cufflinks for a moment.

"They are nice, but I'm not really a cufflink kinda guy. Why not give them to Rogue, I bet she'd like that. Put her in a good mood for awhile."

Re: Pester's room.

"It's all part of the fun," I tell him with another grin. I drop the bag on my back to the floor.

"Don't think she's too happy with me right now, either."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 3:55pm

"Aw, she's not very happy with anybody right now. We need to give her some team hugs, or something nice like that. I think she'd dig that."

Pester juggles the cufflinks in his right hand.

"Betcha didn't know I could do that.''

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 27, 2007, 3:57pm

I blink before laughing.

"You're juggling two things. Even with one hand, that's not so much. Here, use this, too." I toss a chakram at him. Light, though. We don't need him to break any bones in his hand.

"Yeah, I suggested an outing. She didn't seem so hot on the idea. Even if we were thinking about it unrealistic, without Doc Doom crashing it."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 4:00pm

"Hey!"

Pester moves to catch the chakram, which hits the floor.

"Augh…"

Pester puts the chakram and the cufflinks onto his dresser before pulling out three pairs of socks. He then begins juggling them…

"Well…" He says slowly, concentrating on the socks. "…I don't know if she knows what she wants. I don't see how she could get mad at us if we tried to show her we still like her, even with all the insane crap happening."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 27, 2007, 4:02pm

I empty the bag out onto the floor, weaponry falling out.

"She's freaking out about the chance that Sam'll get the job instead of her. Told her it'll never happen. She doesn't seem so convinced."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 4:04pm

Pester lets the socks fall to the floor, eyeing Damien as he lets loose his bag of death.

"Yeah, I don't think that'll happen. No offense to Sam, but I'm not letting him replace her."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 27, 2007, 4:06pm

I follow his gaze.

"What, this stuff? More mementos. I 'confiscated' them from the ninjas. There were a bunch. Anyway, you think I didn't say the same thing to her? Basically, she said, it comes down to it being the Professor's decision, and that there's not actually anything we can do about it. Told her he wouldn't have her replaced, but again, she's not so sure."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 4:09pm

"Well then, no offense to the Professor, but he'll have to find a new team leader if he's so deadset on replacing her. Of course following this pattern, I assume you told her something similar as well. But still, it's worth saying. It's not the Professor's team at this point… It's our team. We work out of his building, is all. For the record, that remains entirely between us until it's relevant for anybody to know."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 27, 2007, 4:11pm

"You don't even have to say it."

I kick the pile of weaponry.

"This is yours, by the way. To train with. So - the outing. A movie's probably going to be a recipe for disaster. And you just know quiet, group dinner is going to go broke. Any sugestions?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 4:28pm

"Lemme see… A quiet dinner would erupt into a bloodbath, and a picnic would get us all killed. So… Here's what I'm thinking. We plan out the worst, most incapable of succeeding thing possible. By the law of averages, the best possible thing we can plan is… To kill Apocalypse."

Pester waits for the response.

Re: Pester's room.

I stare at him blankly for a moment.

Kon flicks out at my side, expands telescopically and gets used to hit him lightly around the head.

"You're a moron."

I look at the kon.

"Huh. Haven't used this in a while. In fact, I think I even use the bow more…"

"I don't see you having any better ideas…"

Pester takes the time to glower for a moment before saying, "Screw Remy."

He keeps thinking.

"I dunno… Hey!!! What if we could track down Mystique?!? She'd love that!"

Re: Pester's room.

"What's wrong with Remy?"

I drop my gaze slightly.

"You know, I really don't think that tracking Mystique down would be a good idea."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 4:44pm

"Just… In general. We don't need Remy for this. Either way, why not? Maybe it'll all turn out alright, and we'll have found her mom for her. She'd love it."

Pester looks down and scoots his shoeless foot around the floor a bit.

"Besides, she'll at least get some closure either way."

Re: Pester's room.

I watch him for a moment, quiet.

I think we're the two best able to do it, especially considering everyone else is leaving the mansion. We'll just have to be smart about it…"

Re: Pester's room.

Probably shouldn't mention that I was going to leave until I found out that I'm probably more needed here.

"I suppose. Though I'm not so sure how smart I trust either of us to be when it comes to Rogue.

You know, irony of ironies; that'll probably need us to leave the Mansion."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 4:56pm

"Maybe. That's why we'll have to be smart, we have to do this locally."

Pester thinks for a moment.

"So far, all we have to go on is this little tracker. Maybe we can't leave, but it's not like we don't have connections outside this place. We've got teammates all over the world."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 5:10pm

"Yeah, I'll hang around. Look I'll be honest here, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. I dunno if we should be interrogating somebody like this, we should bring her to the Professor or another telepath. It'll probably be much less invasive, and they'[ll get far better information out of her then we ever will. And I don't really want to be responsible for seeing a woman tortured, even if she is a nut."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 27, 2007, 5:13pm

"I've got to admit, I'm not going to feel comfortable doing it either. It'll be… wrong. Entirely wrong. But I don't trust telepaths to get the right answers. They can screw up, be tricked, anything. Especially when dealing with someone that's based her life around emotions. You can teach your mind to lie. Pain is something that's the same everywhere.

I sigh, running a hand down my face.

"Nothing I'm going to do will harm her. Not really. It'll just make her give up what she knows. Trust me on this. You've got to trust me on the field, so why not this?"

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on May 27, 2007, 5:22pm

"Because on the field, if you're wrong then it's some rapist punk that gets destroyed. Here, it's a milf, an insane middle aged woman. And there will be nothing to stop her from just telling you what you want to hear. And these people have been doing the same thing with telepathy that you've been doing with nerve endings, but they've been doing it a lot longer. They know what they're doing, and this is one thing I want to leave to the professionals."

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Risk on May 27, 2007, 5:24pm

"So you're telling me you don't think that they can be tricked? Pain, fear… she's going to have a survival instinct. It's going to keep her from lying. More so than telepathy. I'm not going to harm her in any real way. She'll just think I am.

"Damn it, Josh, stop being so naive! This is a possible murder here, and I'm not going to screw around with it, or let some stupid woman screw us around."

«I'm gonna say this is a few days after he got wounded.»

Annoyed mumblings can be heard inside.

"Geez, now I gotta get my friggin' crutches, what a pain…"

Forty five seconds later, Pester opens the door. He's on crutches and he looks like he hasn't showered in awhile, but aside from that he's in decent shape all things considered. He's also wearing a massive bandage wrapped around his left thigh.

My gaze drops onto his crutches and bandage.

"I'd think that you'd be asking for some help. Just a little, in day to day things.

I realise just how pointless sitting here and whining about this all is. The intelligent thing to do would be to go and actually do something about it.

Of course, that's where the problem comes from. There's nothing to be done about it - rather, nothing that we can do about it, other than sit and wait like good, obedient little dogs. I know that orders to be followed… but only when they suit me. These orders distinctly do not suit me.

"Ugh."

I start humming the Smurfs. Why? Why the hell not?

I need to get out of this place, to find something to do. Anything would be better than sitting here and going mad with frustration at this entire situation.

A letter adressed to Pester is sliped under is door, with a CD of soothing whale songs attached.

Dear Pester,

Hello. I just wanted to apolgize about what happened in the Danger Room that one time. I was not myself.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, please deliver this to the boy with a sword that can make noises in your head. I asked around and I think this is who he was, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I'm really, really sorry! And sorry about the Whale too! I included the songs for relaxation.

Sorry!

- Nephy Nephrahim.

Re: Pester's room.
Post by Pester on Jun 25, 2007, 3:55pm

Pester stands over the letter on his crutches. He hasn't yet practiced bending over in this current state. He tries… And can't quite make it on one leg. Pester slowly, slowly begins bending his good leg while sliding down a wall nearby… And falls over, popping a stitch.

"Damnit!"

—-

*Forty-Five minutes later, after Beast repairs his stitches…*

Pester hobbles through the door holding a broomstick in his teeth. The broomstick has a piece of double sided tape on the end, which he uses to pick up the letter and put on his bed, where he lays down to read it.

Why's she sorry? I'm the one who stabbed her…

He slips the CD into his CD player, and enjoys some relaxed sleep.

Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 12:30pm

There's a bunch of crap in here. I'll update it to actually be interesting.

The most interesting thing in the room is currently Pester's 6 inch thick custom made lead shield in front of the window. It keeps the room dark at night, and blocks out the hot Sun when it's shining in on his computer screen.

Knock, knock.

Alexia - or what seems to be her - is standing at Pester's doorstep.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 12:35pm

"Hang on."

The sound of some movement can be heard as Pester tosses a few things around unseen.

As the door opens on up, he smiles at Alexia.

"Heya babe!"

He moves in to give her a quick kiss on the lips.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 12:38pm

Alexia kissed him back, though she pulled back relatively quickly. She proceeded to giggle.

"I still can't believe I'm back with you, Josh."

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 12:42pm

What a very… odd way of starting a conversation… Wait a minute, back together? I guess… We did do the dirty nasty all over that produce… And in the back of the van… And on the Professor's desk… Wait a minute, we never did that.

Professor? Are you screwing with my head?

How odd…

"Back? Oh, back, right. Well you're back in the country, that's a good start."

He smiles, a little nervous due to the matter of them being "Together," and gestures for her to come on in.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 12:47pm

Alexia stepped in with a smile.
"You did miss me, didn't you?" she jokingly asked. "You know… I almost regret that I didn't take you along, but I still think it was the right choice."

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 12:50pm

"Well you know… Some alone time can be good for people," he says, dodging the first question. "Though, I did miss you," he realizes shortly after. "It was kinda lonely around here, without anyone to really talk to, you know?"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 12:54pm

Alexia smiled wider, then frowned slowly and let out a sigh.
"It's great to see you again, but some others weren't as happy with my return as you. I got into an argument with Marisol."

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 12:57pm

"Oh…"

Looks like she could use some support. A good boyfriend would give it to her. Do you really want to be together again? Or are you just in it for… Well, for the pussy?

Can't be a scumbag forever… You can at least try to be good.

Pester puts his arm around her shoulders and leads her to the bed, sitting close to her.

"What'd you two argue about?"

He has to make a conscious effort not to look at Alexia's cleavage, but he manages.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 1:00pm

Alexia shot him a concerned look.
"She… said some things about you. I won't repeat them, but they were pure bullshit. I can't begin to imagine why she'd do that, but… I yelled at her and stormed off. I don't know what to think, Josh…"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 1:04pm

"Huh? Marisol? Really? I knew she didn't like me, I just didn't think this type of thing was her style… Do I want to know what she said?"

Imperceptibly to Pester, his arm slackens a bit around her shoulders. He's worried about what he may hear, and his arm is showing equal worry. He doesn't notice, though the other person in the room with him might.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 1:07pm

Alexia shook her head.
"No. I just want to forget about it…" Her gaze softened, she put a hand on Pester's chest.
"Let's make love and never stop."

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 1:11pm

Pester's eyes light up as his mind reboots into hardcore sex mode, completely wiping his hard drive and starting fresh. Any trace of anything that's happened in the last several minutes is instantly deleted.

"Okay!"

Pester's arm stays wrapped around Alexia's shoulders, as his other hand finds its way to the inside of her thigh. His lips move toward hers.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 1:14pm

Alexia deftly placed her hand between their mouths and stood up. She wasn't smiling anymore. And a few seconds later, she wasn't Alexia anymore.

Marisol stared at him with silent condescension.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 1:17pm

Pester's face turns blank and expressionless. Both arms quickly remove contact with her, though his right arm is less than a thought away from reaching for his sword, and a tazer.

"Get the fuck out. Now."

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 1:18pm

"I thought you were breaking up with Alexia? Looks like it didn't work out. Do you need help? I could help you get broken up…"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 1:22pm

He reaches around to the foot of his bed and unsheathes his sword, thrusting it into her chest.

"Get the fuck out. Now."

Pester's left hand grabs a prototype tazer from Rowdy's old model. He has to stop himself from putting the tazer against the metal protruding from the girl's chest. Obviously a simple stab wound wouldn't hurt somebody like her. He has no idea what the electricity would do, but it's pretty hard not to test it out right now.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 1:29pm

"And where should I go? To Alexia?"

She glanced at the tazer in his hand.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 1:31pm

The bitch is playing games…

The tazer crackles to life and connects with the blade.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Jul 27, 2007, 1:37pm

Marisol had time enough to gape before her chest split apart and leaned away from the blade at the last second. She honestly hadn't thought he'd be man enough to do that. She reconstituted herself and scowled at him.

"Coward," she said, but also stepped back at the same time. "Fine. I'll leave…"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Jul 27, 2007, 1:44pm

Keeping the tazer securely in his hand, Pester reaches down to pick up the sheathe for his sword.

"Come to my room again, whore, and I'll kill you. No more of your games. No more of your bullshit. No more of your condescension. Speak to me outside of a mission and you'll regret it."

Still clutching his weapons, he turns his back on her.

On the bright side, you're pissed off enough that you should now be immune to any and all hostility. Go for it, man.

"Yeah, so just after you left, I intended for us to break up after you got back from vacation. I figured I'd let it wait until you got back, rather than just ruin your trip. Truth be told, all that stuff you were saying about love really scared the piss out of me. After a couple months of thinking about it, I really have no idea what I want now."

He sets down the weapons and looks at Alexia.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror

Pester lifts himself off the floor, and tastes blood before standing up.

"Taxation without representation, among other things!"

He shoulder tackles Lex into the wall behind him.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Protoman on Aug 4, 2007, 7:26pm

Lex's back hits the wall, but he's already absorbing heat from the area.

"Big fucking mistake. You should have stayed down."

Super strength punch to Pester's gut.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Aug 4, 2007, 7:28pm

*Hooof!*

Pester falls to his knees. He almost tries to question Lex's actions, but at this point he's given over to pure sadism.

From his knees, it's pretty easy to send his fist flying straight into Lex's crotch, punching him as hard as he can in the balls.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Protoman on Aug 4, 2007, 7:30pm

Lex has taken to wearing a cup after his run in with the Magma hologram.

He knees Pester in the face.

At this point, there's quite a few regular students watching the field team students set such a good example.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Zephyr on Aug 4, 2007, 7:30pm

This… wasn't right.

Marisol had conflicting feelings about the fight and its reasons, but she knew she didn't like her teammates fighting, especially so brutally. After a moment of hesitation, she strode closer. A pair of tentacles extended from her, wrapped themselves around Pester's and Lex's waists and pulled them apart, keeping them a few inches off the ground.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Aug 4, 2007, 7:32pm

Pester is sent flying into the other wall, where he lays there for a moment. After all the times he's been beat up by stronger opponents, he's learned a few tricks. The first of which is to roll with the punches. Rather than trying to keep the face as stiff as possible, he slackens up. The next of which is to use an opponent's strength against him.

Having a perfect angle from the floor, Pester kicks out his legs at Lex's left kneecap, to push it the wrong way.

"Shut up, Lex."

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror

FUCKING SCUMBAG!

She walks away.

Knock knock.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Aug 17, 2007, 12:53am

Pester clutches his head, attempting to keep the Pompeii of migraine from erupting from his skull. He doesn't succeed. Our hero has had what you may call a long week. Apart from being assaulted, cursed out, condescended, hated, coma'd, abandoned, and pretty much all around despised, he tried to take a nap. A knock at the door makes this impossible.

He eventually forces his way out of bed, and walks over to the door. He opens it, and is quite disturbed by the being on the other side. He's met by somebody who he, in no small way, has come to despise. Somebody who stomped on his trust, and just generally acted like a creep recently. Rather than greet her nastily however, he just stands and stares at her silently. If she has something to say or do, she can go ahead.

Though Pester isn't saying it, Marisol can tell from his expression that he is not pleased to see her.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 17, 2007, 12:59am

"I can tell by your expression that you're not happy to see me."

I sigh - not that I really need to, but it feels like the right thing to show the feelings on my side. I know he's mad at me. I'm a little mad at him, too, all things considered, but somehow I feel he has me beat in that department. He looks like he's ready to choke me, and even though he and I both know how pointless trying that would be, somehow I still think he wants to give it a go.

It's hard to tell we were ever friends. Here's hoping I can fix that.

"Just a minute or two of your time." I hold out a soda, a peace offering. "Cheerwine?"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Aug 17, 2007, 1:19am

Pester's eyes slowly make their way down to the soda, then back up to Marisol's face.

"Why Ms. Morales, are you trying to seduce me?"

He takes the soda as a gesture, and puts it on his desk.

Bleh, it's warm. I guess if it was cold the can would freeze her, but still. She could use a thermos, or something.

He's all full up on chocolate milk, but he wouldn't drink it anyway. The only reason he took it at all is because his only choice was to either take it, or smack it out of her hands in an insane rage.

Pester walks to the back of his room, and sits down on his bed with his legs crossed. Normally he'd probably lean against a wall or lay down, but after the last time Marisol came to his room, Pester didn't want to be caught unawares. Directly under where he was sitting was his sword, with one electrical charge in it.

"Go ahead. Say what you want," he says coldly.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 17, 2007, 2:28am

He made a joke. That's a good sign.

"Basically, I wanted to apologize, though I want to be clear what I'm apologizing. My feelings haven't changed, not a bit - but I admit that, maybe, I didn't go about acting them on the way. I know - you know - I was trying to help. I wanted to help. I think it was right to help. Just not in the way I did."

[Sorry that's so small. It'll get better, I promise.]

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Aug 17, 2007, 2:40am

«No worries, just have fun with it.»

Pester grimaces. Not out of anger, but out of disappointment. He's a liar. He told Marisol he hated her, and that he'd kill her next time he saw her. But that's not true, and he knew it since before she came in here. Sure, he'd been trying to convince himself otherwise, but he really couldn't stay mad. Now that he comes to this realization, he feels weak. Staying angry means he's right, it means he has a validation, the moral high ground. Righteous indignation, or some such madness he heard on TV back home.

Pester stands up, he doesn't want to be near the sword under his bed right now. She doesn't know it's there, but he does, and if somebody's going to apologize to him, then he's not going to accept it while plotting to hurt her. His body language makes it somewhat clear that he's not angry anymore, just tired.

"I can get that you were trying to help your friend. That's great. In fact, you'll remember I tried to do the same thing, when I came to you a couple months ago, for help breaking up with her, because I wanted to protect her just like you did. You all but spit in my face."

He crosses his arms and stands up straight, ending his speech there. He knows it's an odd place to end a sentence, he just wants to see how she'll react.

"And I'll fess up to that. I'm not asking for you to like me again, that would be crazy. It's what I want, but…I've known you for a while, Pester. Joshua. And even though you're not the most powerful person on the team, I know you're pretty much the most reliable. Every time you say something, I know you'll either do it or you'll go down trying. I want there to be trust between us, if there's nothing else."

Sounds like she hasn't spoken to Alexia recently…

Pester wasn't expecting this.

"Yeah well…"

Crap. I have nothing to say to that. I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to say here.

"Well any one of us could go down. Just because I'm more likely to doesn't make me special."

…What the hell does that even mean? Was that just a change of subject? Do you even know what you're talking about anymore?

Well, I've come this far, so I might as well go all the way. "Yes, that's how I'd like to take it, but, at the same time…" I sigh, look away from him. "Is there any chance you'll forgive me? Ever?"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror

"You don't want forgiveness from me… You want nothing to do with me."

I am not pleased with my behavior lately…

He opens up the shades on his window, and looks up into the night sky.

"You don't want forgiveness from me…"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 18, 2007, 12:31am

"But…I do." I inch my way into his room, taking care not to step on any of his things - I can't help but notice the sword he had under him. "Joshua, even if I don't agree with some of the things you've said and done, even then, I still want your forgiveness. I…you're my friend. You're one of my first friends. And that's…I don't want to lose that. It's too precious."

I follow his gaze out the window. "It really is a nice night, isn't it?"

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror
Post by Pester on Aug 18, 2007, 12:45am

Pester seems to ignore her for a moment, his eyes focusing on one point in the sky. After a second or two, he notices that Marisol has taken further steps into the room, and quickly shakes his head.

"Yeah, nice. Maybe there's some mutant kid getting the crap beat out of him near that star over there," he says as he absently points to the northern sky. "There's nothing to say the next couldn't be one of us…"

He opens up the soda she brought, and gives it a swig.

"Sorry, I've been a little distracted lately. Don't worry about it, I was never too good at holding a grudge."

"I know. It's one of the great things about you." I smile and let out a deep sigh, genuine this time. Still looking out the window. "It's funny, though. I mean, we deal with such heavy things all the time, but small things…personal things, things that don't have to do anything with saving the world or anything, that's what really gets us. It's like the hardest people to save are ourselves…"

He takes a sip from the soda can and takes a seat on the edge of his bed, back facing Marisol. His shoulders slump.

"Never mind, you didn't come here for this. As to your point, I have no idea how to save anyone else, saving myself is more confusing than anything."

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror

In the last few days, Pester has learned not to just blindly open the door. Though he hasn't exactly been assaulted lately, he's gotten quite tired of dealing with… Well, people. Plus, he doesn't feel very much like getting up. He's gotten quite comfortable laying face down into his pillow.

"Who is it?" Is the muffled response from inside.

There's a moment of silence, as Pester tries to think of a way out of this.

"Make me," is the muffled response.

Sure, she'll kick the door down. But considering what she's already scratched into the damn thing, what's to say she won't do that anyway? Pester remains where he is.

Re: Pester's Den of Technological Horror

Pester can hear some more scratching on the door, then he can hear Alexia walking away.
