Pack your bags…
Post by havok3595 on Feb 11, 2008, 9:43am
One random morning, Generation M is called into the team briefing room. Kitty, Scarlet Witch, Wolverine, and Quicksilver are all there, seemingly with massive amounts of random documents haphazardly tossed on a few tables. Kitty nods to the team when they're all there.
«I'm making this post long and full of information because I won't be on much today. ASSUME everyone is there at this point so this information doesn't need repeating by NPC's.»
"Hey guys. Good news, bad news for you. I suppose the bad news is that other countries are considering registration…deeply considering it. Which makes the good news: ROAD TRIP!" says Kitty.
Wolverine smiles slightly. "We've got plans to send small groups of you incognito to a variety of countries that have registration on the radar. Me and the Maximoffs have put together some cover ID's and such for you, we have some…experience sneaking into countries. Anyway, we're going to split you up into small groups of two or three, because that's how it works best."
Pietro quickly pulls out a world map. "The four countries we are sending you to are the United Kingdom, the Sudan, Mexico, and the People's Republic of China. We have no desire to assign students, so we'd like you to discuss among yourselves who you feel is best suited for where, where you want to go, et cetera. If you have any questions, feel free to sift through these mountains of documents. I didn't find much interesting in them, but maybe you can." He sifts through them again quickly. "No, nothing."
Wanda raises an eyebrow at her brother. "Alright, each of these countries poses its own issues, as you know. With the United Kingdom, there's going to be a demonstration in Edinburgh, where memories of Proteus are still very fresh. We feel this could turn dangerous in a hurry. Likewise, the Sudan, which I don't think I need to go into full detail about. Of course, China and Mexico have their own problems, but I feel these two have the greatest actual danger. Be sure to be on your best behavior: your assignments are to observe, spread the word on Genosha, protect your fellow mutants, and most of all: don't start an international incident."

"Aw come on, you guys never let me start any international incidents!"
Pester quickly quiets down when he notes Wolverine looking at him.
"Uhm… I mean, I'll take the U.K…"

I raise my hand. "Um…do you have any of those holographic face-hider things? I think I'm going to need a little more than a fake ID to get around…"

China or U.K. … U.K. Definitely U.K.
"U.K. Wait, we do have a choice, right?"
Guessing road trip doesn't mean I can ditch to go get pissed as soon as we wind up near Manchester….

Wait a minute… She's going to the U.K. too?
"…Maybe I'll go to the Sudan… I hear the ebola isn't so bad this time of year."

"Have fun with that," Aniela muses, seeming almost concerned in tone - which is odd, considering her choice of words. "Heard they still don't know what the carrier is. Half case death rate, and the whole thing feels like berk wastage."

*Sigh…*

He's never actually seen Dexter's Lab. But shouting things in Spanish is quite amusing.

Kitty quickly addresses the concerns mentioned so far.
"Yeah, we have image inducers…not many, though, so we'd appreciate anyone who wouldn't stick out without them not using them. I also have a few things I put together for this assignment…they're just prototypes, really, but they should come in handy. This little device…"
She holds up something that looks like a wireless cellphone earpiece.
"…well, it'll translate other languages into English for you. It's not perfect, and it runs at about a five second delay. It also doesn't help you speak other languages. So, really, it's just a one way thing, but it might come in handy. I also have this…"
She holds up something that looks vaguely like a laser pen.
"If you scan this across a written language, it should translate it into the small scrolling screen on the side. I've actually had less luck with this, and it runs off babel fish, so the translations are somewhat sketchy. Also, you have to manually select the language you're translating…I've only programmed in about five so far, but made sure to get the ones you're most likely to encounter. I have one of each of these for each team. And we'd like you to select teams amongst yourselves, letting us know when each group is ready to get further briefings."

Pester eyes the devices, trying not to look threatened.
"Y-you built them? And programmed them?"
They're so small! And perfectly functional! I've never even heard of this technology! Does it work consistently? Could I build and program something along these lines?
I must top it…
Pester plots away in his mind…

China: Nephy and Khan
UK: Aniela and Pester(?)
Anyone else signing up now? The more notice you give me, the easier it will be. Otherwise, everyone who hasn't signed up by mission time gets Sudan.

Mexico
The basic information on Mexico is as follows:
It's widely believed that Mexico will pass the registration act in order to improve relations with the US, especially in regards to immigration. Tighter border security has been promised by the United States if neighboring countries do not adopt registration, and tighter border security is not something Mexico in general wants. While there have been a number of demonstrations both for and against registration, most of them tend to focus on whether the government should bow down to the US in this matter or not, not really about mutant rights or anything like that. There are rumors that a small nationalist movement will stage a coup, and some feel that this group will be using mutants to overcome the numbers difference and succeed in the coup. Nothing's really known about it, though.
The team is being sent to Mexico City to investigate the situation and try to make sure that whatever happens is relatively peaceful. Genosha would actually prefer there to not be a pro-mutant revolution, especially a violent one, and would instead prefer to offer any Mexican mutants sanctuary. The general feeling is that a violent revolution would force the United States to get involved, which would be a bad thing in the end.

United Kingdom
A large pro-registration demonstration is planned for Edinburgh, Scotland: the site of Proteus' rampage several years ago. A march will be held tracing his path of destruction through the city to the point that he ultimately met his end, at the castle. A candlelight vigil and other events are planned around this.
On the other side of the coin, Moira Mactaggert was originally supposed to appear to decry Proteus' activities, but her connections to both Xavier and Proteus himself were brought into question. Ultimately, she stated that her intention for appearing was to present both sides of the mutant situation, mentioning the X-Men's role in saving the city as well as the deeds of Proteus. From this, she intended to turn the argument against registration, but was disinvited from the proceedings.
Rumor has it that her longtime lover, the mutant known as Banshee, as well as some other residents of Muir Isle Research Facility intend to spearhead a peaceful counterprotest in the city. Tensions seem to be riding rather high, though, and the possibility of a scuffle is definitely present. The team is to try to prevent that from happening, and also to recruit any UK mutants they encounter. They're advised to be very cautious about doing this around Banshee himself, though.

China
Slightly different than the others, there is no proposed mutant registration act in China…that anyone knows of. A persistent rumor that Wolverine has heard from his contacts in Madripoor is that there isn't so much a registration as there is a press gang…known mutants are disappeared to top secret government facilities where god knows what happens to them. Some research suggests that this would explain the relatively low number of known superhumans from such a large population.
A member of a "Mutant Underground" has been identified by Logan's contacts, and the team is to meet with him in Hong Kong. It should be noted that Logan doesn't 100% trust this person, and wanted to go himself, but the Academy felt it would be better for the field team. He has offered to go along as a mentor, though. The goal is to determine what is going on and where, and free any Chinese mutants if possible. The feeling is that since they are in secret camps (if they are), that the government would be in a bad position to make a public outcry over freeing them, especially if the jailbreak is not made public.

Sudan
Violence of many types is associated with this African nation, but it seems an unusual choice for a new human rights group seeking to protect mutants to form. The Mutant Rights Watch split off of the Human Rights Watch in Sudan, and seems to be a very small organization devoted to reporting civil rights violations against mutants. They have a website and are just beginning to organize on a larger scale. The team to Sudan is assigned to meet with these individuals, determine if they are trustworthy, and invite them to Genosha.
