«Anyone with the NM is here for this, no exceptions»

Rogue smiles warmly at her students as they assemble, "Am I the only one who wants things to just settle down a little around here? It's been too long since we could just have a normal class, and not deal with all kinds of craziness. How are you guys all doing?"

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Last Hero on Mar 5, 2007, 11:59am

«Whoops! Sorry, I thought I answered you."

Rogue says, "First things first. We've got a new student who dropped in just a little while ago. Orchestra, wanna introduce yourself to the class?" Rogue sounds a bit like a kindergarten teacher with that last part.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Orchestra on Mar 5, 2007, 12:04pm

I slide across the ground at Rogue's call. To them I must appear to be a freakish spectre, but really, it's just how I like moving around sometimes.

"Hello Newmutants." I say, raising myself to my normal height and causing my form to appear full the way theirs are. Last thing I want to do is scare them all.

"My name is Orchestra and I come from the under-lands, but I believe you refer to as the "Darkforce." I am sorry for not making my prescence known earlier but after following you from the Darkforce after your battle with the one called Erebus I believed it best to observe you from a far until I felt comfortable meeting you all."

I feel….nervous. Yes, I believe that's what the word for this feeling is. In my native tongue there is not one for it.

"Also, please forgive any error in my words. I have only recently begun learning to sounds you Newmutants use to communicate."

After a slight bow, I slink closer to Rogue.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics

"Uh… hello," said Marisol hesitantly. She raised her hand in a half-wave.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Marisol Morales on Mar 5, 2007, 12:36pm

I wave myself, whispering to Marisol. "Creepy guy…"

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Last Hero on Mar 5, 2007, 12:38pm

Rogue watches the two whisper and chuckles slightly, "So, how is everyone holding up? It's been a rough few days, but I think we need to keep moving. No point in sulking for days on end, right?"

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Zephyr on Mar 5, 2007, 12:38pm

"Well… yes," whispered Marisol back, "At least he seems friendly enough…"
Still, she wasn't pleased with the concept of being observed from afar.

"Right, right," she said out loud, "Sulking is bad. I agree…"
That was what she believed in, at least. She didn't always live by the creed…

"Welcome! Where'd you get your name from? It's one of English's cooler words."

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Orchestra on Mar 5, 2007, 12:39pm

I sniff the air lightly and look at the shadow down around the feet of the one who just waved at me.

Delectable.

It took a great deal of self-control to not devour her shadow while I stalked this place after fleeing the Darkforce….control I find myself lacking now. It's been far too long since I tasted the shadow of a living being. Those of objects are fine in their own right…but…

"Please forgive me, miss." I state, darting across the ground and wrapping around her shadow. In one quick gulp I devour it in its entirety.

Even better than I had expected it to be. I can't digest it, since, that would not be right. She needs her shadow, instead I'll put it too use.

"Uh… hello." I say, waving at her, my body now an almost exact duplicate of hers, just with darker shading. I turn and smile at the one called…Pester. Yes, that's his name according to…Marisol's memories.

"My own name did not translate well into your language so I needed a replacement."

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Zephyr on Mar 5, 2007, 12:41pm

Marisol just looked shocked. If he wasn't creepy before, he sure was now…
"What are you doing?" she drawled out and took a step back.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Orchestra on Mar 5, 2007, 12:42pm

"Forgive me." I state, my voice matching her own. "I was merely demonstrating my power."

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Zephyr on Mar 5, 2007, 12:43pm

"So… what is your power?" she asked nervously, trying not to look freaked out.
She glanced at the ground and noted her lack of shadow. This wasn't a great encouragement for her to open her mouth when meeting somebody.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Last Hero on Mar 5, 2007, 12:44pm

Rogue watches with a stoic expression. She was pretty freaked out when Orchestra showed her his powers for the first time too.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Pester on Mar 5, 2007, 12:46pm

Pester notices Marisol's lack of shadow.

"Is that healthy? That's not gonna give her cancer or something?"

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Orchestra on Mar 5, 2007, 12:47pm

"I possess the power to eat the shadow of a person or object and take on it's physical characteristics as well as memories, and emotions. You for instance, have a strong love for one named Zephyr."

That was rude of me, her thoughts…my thoughts…NO! Her thoughts are her own.

"Forgive me if this information was not already known to the gathered."

I turn to Pester.

"As long as I return it to her I believe she shall bear no ill effects."

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Marisol Morales on Mar 5, 2007, 12:49pm

I don't say anything, but I'm pretty freaked out, too, and a little worried for Marisol's sake…he seems nice enough, but that can always be a hard thing to tell.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics

"Oh, goodie. Can you eat mine? I don't want my thoughts anymore."

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Zephyr on Mar 5, 2007, 12:51pm

Marisol decided not to be afraid. She scowled.
"What if you don't return it?" she asked. "And what if I don't like people combing through my thoughts and feelings?" she added in a more subdued voice.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Marisol Morales on Mar 5, 2007, 12:53pm

Okay, that's a little annoying. "Well then, give it back to her. Now."

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Orchestra on Mar 5, 2007, 12:55pm

Perhaps I should not tell them this. No. They are my teammates, they have a right to know.

"Inanimate objects tend to decay without their shadows, and beings in the Darkforce did the same. I'm unable to say what affects it would have on a Newmutant. And if you do not wish me to know your thoughts, only make it known and I will stay away from your shadows."

I begin clearing my mind of her thoughts, as well as my own.

"I will return it now. Prepare to catch it." I say, spitting the shadowy mass from my mouth. "Don't let it run away!" I cough, trying to gather my composure.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Zephyr on Mar 5, 2007, 12:57pm

Marisol gave him a rather confused look, but was moving already - mostly on instinct. She stretched her torso to where the shadow was sliding on the ground, and pulled over the rest of herself once she hit the floor.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Orchestra on Mar 5, 2007, 1:00pm

"It should be fine now." I tell her. "It'll be a little antsy for the next few minutes but that'll settle soon."

Couldn't help but marvel at her ability. With it, she could have a shadow of any shape or size…or taste….

I'd object, but it's not as if I'd be able to stop him anyway…

"Well… Welcome to our team!"

Pester surprises himself at how well he is able to fake the enthusiasm.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics

I'm unsure why Zephyr thought I wouldn't notice his positioning. Drats. I've scared or offended him in some way haven't I?

I extend my hand to Zephyr.

"Forigve me. I did not mean to startle your mate."

Pester was ready for some action to wash down all the histrionics of the past few days.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Last Hero on Mar 5, 2007, 1:35pm

Rogue looks at Pester, impressed that he's the one looking to get down to business. She activates the room. Nothing seems to change, although 9 red buttons appear around the room.

"Simple enough. 9 Buttons, 9 of you. (Wreck, Solidity, Current, Heaven, Petser, Amethyst, Zephyr, Phase and Orchestra). Each one of you have to press one, and it has to be all at the same time."

"So, er, let's do it then? Each of us can take any random button, right?"
She headed off towards one of them watchfully. Just in case, she added a few extra eyes so she could see everything around her. She wasn't even sure there would be something…

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics

"Child's play Ms. Rogue." I laugh, darting off across the ground towards my button.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics

Wreck raises a field around himself and walks to another button, mumbling something completely incoherent.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Last Hero on Mar 5, 2007, 1:48pm

The room springs to life as soon as Wreck and Orchestra have moved. Blast shields drop down over the buttons, and alarms start blaring. The roof of the Danger Room is torn off as Sentinels drop down around the team.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Pester on Mar 5, 2007, 1:51pm

Thank god. Even if it is fake, at least this is a fight. Although, it is possible that it's a real Sentinal attack. What if Rogue wants us to think it's real, but it's actually fake? Maybe the real test is to treat it like it's a real attack. What if the real mission is to see through the illusion? Shit. Overthinking, FTW.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Orchestra on Mar 5, 2007, 1:53pm

I'm a bit startled by all the noise and motion occuring around me, but I won't let that distract me from completing my mission. I attempt to get myself close enough one of the collossuses to steal its shadow.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Last Hero on Mar 5, 2007, 1:53pm

A sentinel takes aim at Pester, who seems distracted. Rogue shoves him out of the way, and is blasted. She hits the wall with a thud, and slides to the floor, leaving a nasty trail of blood behind.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Zephyr on Mar 5, 2007, 1:56pm

The first thought Marisol had, was wondering if they were supposed to push the buttons in spite of the attack, or defeat the attackers and THEN push the buttons…

Since she couldn't really do anything by herself anyway, she opted for striking. She transformed herself into something like a relatively slim rhinocerous… with fangs. Immediately, she bolted towards one of the sentinels. She made do for it's legs, even if it meant she had to crawl up the walls. She planned on simply ripping it to pieces, if possible. At the same time, she naturally paid attention to any stray replusor blasts…

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Wreck on Mar 5, 2007, 1:57pm

Wreck tilts his head disinterestedly.

"That looked painful."

He teleports behind one of the Sentinels, intending to grab a leg and rot it away.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Pester on Mar 5, 2007, 1:59pm

O_O

Any doubts to the situation's validity are blasted along with Rogue's torso. He's a gullible one.

[[There are 8 Sentinels in the room. They seem to be in pairs. As Marisol attacks on, it's partner opens fire on her, forcing her to retreat or be blasted. Wreck manages to do a little damage, before that Sentinel's partner forces him away with a force blast. It just pushes Wreck away, without doing enough damage to kill him.]]

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Marisol Morales on Mar 5, 2007, 2:03pm

I take the air and try to keep the Sentinels distracted, buzzing about their heads like a fly; my gusts aren't strong enough to really do any damage, but they should at least knock the brutes back and register me as a threat - hoping I can stay fast enough to not get tagged.

"No can do. Can't mess with life-drainer types, or I end up with a nasty case of being in hell. Not that I'm not already there."

Wreck skids to a halt a bit away from the blast.

"Well, looks like they're playing teamwork on us. Whatever."

He moves behind one of the Sentinels trying to lock onto Zephyr, intending to zap it while looking out for his robot friends.

Marisol headed for the same Sentinel Wreck was targetting.

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics

Rogue seems alive, but fading in Pester's arms.

The Setinel attacked by Wreck and Solidity, tilts procariously, as it's leg is ruined. It starts to fall towards his teammates.

Orchestra hits the Sentinel, but it doesn't seem too bothered. It's partner fires an energy blast towards Orchestra's large target of a chest.

"I honestly think if you touched my memories, you'd go very insane. But eh."

Wreck shrugs, absently firing blasts at the Sentinels. Then glances over to one of the buttons, running over to it. He puts a hand on one side of the blast field, intending to just destroy everything but the button itself and the wall it's attached to.

"So they'll shoot the blast shields."

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Zephyr on Mar 5, 2007, 2:50pm

"Wouldn't that involve me getting killed?"

She was just saying that on principle. She was already scrabbling towards one of the blast shields. Since she doubted Sentinels were very interested in targets, she decided to turn into her usual form. If a shot came at her, she would create a very large hole in herself for it to pass through.

Marisol moved closer to one of the blast shields. She shrunk herself as small as possible, and turned into a semi-liquid state. Fluid enough to get through most nooks and crannies, at least. She didn't really expect anything, and there was still the energy-thingy to worry about… but it couldn't hurt to try.

I've been background so far, but now I'm trying to think of what to do about energy fields.

"I have a really stupid idea. Rubber doesn't conduct electricity, right?"

I create a rubber glove on my hand and consider reaching in, then think better of it and create a stick to put the glove on and try to wave it through the field.

[[A sentinel blasts Pester in the shoulder leaving a deep and slightly painful burn]]

[[Marisol is able to wiggle a small part of herself underneath the metal. The energy seems to only be on the surface, so she would be able to push the button]]

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics
Post by Amelia "Heaven" Chow on Mar 6, 2007, 11:29am

Hm. There has to be something projecting this field…

I get rid of the now useless stick, and form my sword. Hm. If this is electrical, that'll suck too. I make the grip rubber, and make sure it will form a circuit that doesn't include me, then stab wherever I assume the electricity is coming from.

Well… this really wasn't much use, in retrospect. She could push the button, but that would be pointless without the others. She flowed back out for the moment and took on a more solid form again. She was open to suggestions here…

"Hey guys, I'm at my button, but it sucked hard getting here. I have no advice for getting the rest of you to yours."

All right, whatever.

I'll just go ahead and create a massive EMP. I'm going for the shields, but it won't hurt to take down a few of the Sentinels too… I think they're kinda protected against it, eh?

«That was all the protection, right? Or was there another metal shield over the buttons?»

Re: NM Training Simulation 1- Back to Basics

Rogue shakes her head, "Anything would have been better than what happened! You had a goal. Not only did a distraction take you away from it completely, you also let one of your teammates lie nearly dead on the ground." Rogue nods to Pester, "Well…most of you did at least. This was something you guys should have been able to pass, five minutes top. Hell, the Sentinels weren't even set to attack you guys with any seriousness. It was a bit of a mess guys…"

"Didn't seem like much that could be done, really. We had to deal with the Sentinels, else they'd have blasted us as we went for the buttons…..or at least they would have, if they were normal Sentinels."

Wreck shrugs.

"I guess we could have sent someone in to block with their face…..in other words, me, but then I wouldn't have been exactly able to hit my button."

Rogue nods, "I am not saying you should have ignored the Sentinels entirely, that would just be suicide, but you guys didn't exactly throw down on them either. It was all very tentative. You guys are much better than this."

Rogue smiles at Alexia, "Just like your parents. Most of the time, it is pure action. But, sometimes it's more than that. It's not like we go out there looking for a fight…well most of the time."

Pester opens the door to the Danger Room. As he steps out, Rogue vanishes from his arms. The real Rogue is standing on the opposite wall watching him, "Thanks for saving my life, sugah.
