«Alright, lets roll.»

Once the groups has assembled in the Danger Room, Havok starts the scenario.

It's the middle of the night, snowing and you're in the forest. Alone. Each of you has appeared by yourself and your communicators aren't working. The forest around you is very thick, the ground is covered in a few feet of snow.

"You have two goals. Survive and don't die. You're on your own."

The only sound is the wind rippling through the trees.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 10:13pm

Cold, dark, can hardly see in front of my face.

Jake wraps his arms up and starts hiking, creating a small flash light to see where he's going

"Hello? Anybody?"

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 10:15pm

"Christ, Havok; and you get at me for being melodramatic." I mumble it more than I say, wafting away a few snowflakes - Linda's keeping me warm enough. "All right, to work."

I leap up the nearest tree and start jumping the branches, trying to keep silent as possible and find the others.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 10:16pm

"This one's more or less built for me."

Ox fetches a quarter and taps it until it becomes a candy bar, which he munches.

"….but I guess we're supposed to be doing the teamwork thing. Hello? Anyone nearby?"

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 10:18pm

Jake and Ox get no response, the only sounds the wind and now the crunching of their footsteps in the show.

Army stays relatively quiet, but can't really see anything through the snow.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 10:21pm

"Okay, so, survive or die." I drop down to ground level, making sure to stick so I don't slide. Doubt I'll be long enough to starve to death or anything…but, still, I should make camp. Maybe try and find the others. Right.

I start knocking over a few trees, hoping the noise will draw somebody towards me.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 10:22pm

Way too fucking quiet

Jake hovers off the ground and dims his light, something seems off and he wants to draw as little attention to himself as possible.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 10:24pm

"Hmph."

Plucking out another quarter, Ox tosses it at the nearest tree. It'd either cause a ruckus and draw someone's attention, or at the very least, give him some firewood.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 10:26pm

The trees slam loudly to the ground, Ox can barely hear them falling in the distance. A small explosion from his quarter lights the area for a moment and the tree falls, Army could hear this, if he weren't knocking down his own trees.

Jake can hear the explosion, but it sounds like a very quiet boom.

If Army weren't knocking down trees, he'd hear a soft crunching in the snow off to his left. Sounds like a small animal.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 10:28pm

Linda notices some movement off to our left, so I turn that way.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 10:28pm

What?

Jake looks in the direction of the first sound he's heard and starts slowly making his way towards it

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 10:32pm

Ox walks over to the fallen tree and lays a hand on it, trying to make a tent. Instead, the whole thing explodes, knocking him back into the snow.

"Stupid goddamn not working powers I hate I hate I hate…."

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 10:36pm

Neither Army nor Linda can really make anything out. The storm seems to be getting worse.

Jake can sense a fast movement to his right.

Ox gets the same thing, a sense of something moving in front of him.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 10:38pm

"Okay, yeah, this is creepy, whatever." I look around, still looking for the source. "Come on out. I'm not a bad guy."

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 10:39pm

Pulling himself up, Marty fetches a spare piece of wood and smacks it until it becomes a flashlight. He shines it toward the movement.

"Hello? I know you're there, whatever you are. May as well show yourself, before I accidentally burn down the forest trying to build a campfire."

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 10:42pm

Jake's head cocks to the right, he knows he saw something move past him. He powers up a bit and starts to move in that direction, bending the light around him to displace his image by a foot

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 10:45pm

Ox: The flashlight catches something moving just out of it's range, then it's a lot closer. Ox sees [image] coming right at him.

Army: Army feels something VERY sharp rake across his chest as [image] jumps from the shadows with a loud grunt.

Jake: Jake can't see anything in front of him, but something moves behind him.

Post by Paige "Anima" O'Hara on Aug 19, 2007, 10:47pm

Send me into a snow storm wearing a tanktop. That raging asshole. Not freezing to death is a pretty big priority, I guess. I start to gather whatever wood I can, calling downed branches and whatnot from underneath the snow and collecting it all by a log. I start to get the fire kicked off with my lighter, telling the little fucker to kick the fire into over drive a bit.

"C-c-come on…"

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 10:47pm

"Shit!" I leap back, sticking against the nearest tree and facing…Wolfman Jack, I shall call him. "About damn time!" I bring out my own claws. "You want to trade skin? Fine."

I leap at him, claws slashing, aiming to give him a nice gash on the chest.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 10:48pm

'Bastard!"

Ox tosses his flashlight at the incoming….thing. As it sails, several nasty spinning blades and hooks begin whirling around the light.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 10:51pm

Jake turns around and fires behind him, sure he saw something

"SHOW YOURSELF!"

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 10:55pm

Paige's fire starts, going pretty good.

Army's idea doesn't work quite so well, Sabretooth dodges to the left. Army does manage to slice his attacker's arm, but by the time he's back in Army's line of sight it's already knitting itself back together.

Wild Child dodges Ox's attack easily, the flashlight lands somewhere off in the distance leaving the area pitch black again.

Jake's request is answered by [image] slashing his side open. His little trick fooled the eyes, but Logan's sense of smell got the better of it.

Paige can hear something off in the distance.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 10:57pm

"FUCKING GAH!!!!!"

Jake falls off to the side, incredibly happy to have powered up. That hurt like a bitch and his light form is probably the only thing to saved him. He reaches to check it, and it's actually been pierced. He finally manages to look up at his attacker.

"H-h-h-holy shit….."

Fear taking over, he starts unloading light beams at him as fast as he can

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 10:59pm

Huh. Whoever this guy is, he's stealing from my playbook.

I'm tempted to keep at him, but if with his power, we could be fighting for a damn long time - and his healing is faster than mine. For now, I'm thinking it's best to regroup, see what's up with the others - kind of worried about Paige, too. This guy might not be the only problem here.

"Sorry, furball." I run towards the guy and leap at the last minute, jumping off his head and swinging through the trees at high speed. "But I don't have time to play with you."

I jump through the trees, getting as high as I can and looking for any signs of the others.

Bryan looks around. Its cold, dark, and cold.

Pointing out which way is North (by random guess), Bryan trudges east, looking for the others.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 11:02pm

"….that probably wasn't smart of me. Oh well."

Ox fetches the rest of his change and starts tossing it in all directions to make some light.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Paige "Anima" O'Hara on Aug 19, 2007, 11:03pm

I hear the nondescript sound, but all I really do is stay huddled by the flame for the moment. I've got a fire here and if I leave I won't. Besides, there's little need to go looking for trouble when trouble will probably find me. And the cherry on top of my reasons not to wander - I can see far better if I stick by the flame.

Still, I stay alert, listening and hoping to catch a more detailed sound, maybe figure out what it is if it makes a sound again. I also animate some more downed branches, having them climb out of the snow and serve as my eyes - asked to give me early warning of anything coming out of the snowy darkness so that I can be ready.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 11:05pm

A few of Jake's blasts hit, Logan shrugs them off and keeps coming, healing little by little. Jake feels those ever sharp bone claws slash his arm, not deep.

Sabretooth manages to slash Army's ankle, but he gets away. Of course, that leaves Sabretooth unaccounted for. Army can see a small fire cutting through the storm, but it's a ways away.

Bryan also spots a fire in the distance.

Ox's change explodes and lights up the area on flashes, one of them catches Wild Child, sending him for a loop. From the sounds, he's still coming, but slower.

Paige hears Jake scream pretty clearly, and her sticks alert her of Bryan's approach.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 11:07pm

Havok said 'Survive and don't die'. I'm pretty sure he meant as many of us as possible, so staying and fighting alone? Dumb.

"Hey!" I start bounding through the trees, heading full speed to the fire. "Guys, it's Army! Anybody out there?"

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 11:07pm

"Fuck……Wolverine….."

Jake forms a construct sword and goes on the defensive, blocking claw shots while trying to blast Logan in the eyes

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Rapt "Roc"/Fragment/Fraternity on Aug 19, 2007, 11:07pm

'A fire! I'm saved! Unless its a forest fire that will consume us all…or a lure…or …screw it, I'm getting warm.

Bryan trudges towards the fire, at as fast a pace as he can without actually running.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 11:08pm

Pausing in mid-throw, Ox clutches one of his quarters. Taps it until it forms (what he hopes is) a hand grenade, pulls the pin and chucks it toward the sound of the footsteps.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 11:12pm

Army reaches Paige's fire, but his ankle is bleeding pretty heavily. Bryan also reaches Paige's little clearing.

Jake does a pretty good job blocking. He comes close to Logan's eyes once, burning the side of his head pretty badly. The smell of burnt hair has settled on the area.

The explosion goes off, leveling a few trees in the area. Wild Child is no where to be seen….until his claws sink into Ox's shoulder.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 11:14pm

"Ow!"

Ox quickly slides explosive coins between his knuckles, spins around and punches Wild Child. Borrowing a page from his clone, which strikes him as a little disgusting. But whatever works.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Paige "Anima" O'Hara on Aug 19, 2007, 11:14pm

I turn to see Bryan approach, Jake's scream in the back of my mind.

"It just couldn't have been the guy that could turn a quarter into a jacket." I mutter, warmed a fair bit by the flame but still chilly out in the storm.

I look at Army's ankle. "First, what the fuck happened to you? Second, judging by the screams, I'm thinking the same thing is happening to Jake that a way." I say pointing to the direction his yells came from.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Rapt "Roc"/Fragment/Fraternity on Aug 19, 2007, 11:15pm

Bryan stumbles into the clearing, looking around before seeing Paige. "Hey Paige." Bryan gives a faint wave with his greeting.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 11:16pm

Wild Child doesn't have a chance to dodge and…his head explodes all over the place. Ox's hand is singed by the explosion.

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Jake "Flare" Lange on Aug 19, 2007, 11:17pm

Jake pushes his sword forward and tries to break through the claws as he starts shooting his light beams out of his eyes

Re: New Mutants West #12 - Field Day (Havok)
Post by Protoman on Aug 19, 2007, 11:19pm

Jake manages to snap the far left claw, Logan lets out a loud howl. The small group that has formed can hear it clearly. The light blasts hit Logan in the face and he stumbles back but recovers quick enough to sink into the shadows.

Post by Marty "Ox" Banks on Aug 19, 2007, 11:20pm

"Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww goddamn gross."

Wiping Wild Child goo off of his face, Ox sticks his burned hand into the snow.

"Well, I'm still alive. Do I win yet?"

Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 19, 2007, 11:20pm

"Fucking…..where is he?!"

Post by Paige "Anima" O'Hara on Aug 19, 2007, 11:23pm

I take and throw on the jacket.

"We should move. I heard a scream and a crack coming from Lite Brite's direction. Not great teamwork to leave him out to the wolves. You're good to walk, right?"

Though I'm assuming he'll manage, as I've already started off in the scream's direction - with the fire following. I'm not about to give that up just yet, for multiple reasons. Visibility, beacon to the others and a weapon if I need it.

"Plan? Let me think."

He looks over the surroundings and groans as he grasps his side

"I've been tangling with a wild Wolverine, from the looks of it he's not alone. They're using the enviroment as a weapon, staying silent, staying in the shadows. First thing is stick together, second thing is play their strengths against them."

He turns to Paige

"Anything and everything in the area that you can animate, do it, we needs eyes and ears everywhere."

He turns to Bryan

"I can't remember what you do."

He turns to Army

"Stay visible, they can smell you out and I don't want anyone leaving sight. But where's Ox?"

Ox's flare becomes useless as the area lights up. Sabretooth is directly in front of them, he charges into the clearing as soon as it's lit up.

Of course, everyone was distracted. Army feels six five claws slash at his back.

Bryan shields his eyes from above, looking down, so he's not blinding himself and being left open for an attack. Thus, he looks into the shadows for the enemy when its lit up.

"I thought they called you Flare because your clothes are - GAH!"

I hit the ground hard, rolling over on my back.

Ox tries to drape his chainmail blanket over Sabretooth's head.

Like I was thinking before - one of the reasons I wasn't sacrificing the fire was because it would make a nice weapon in a pinch. I have a pair of the flaming logs launch themselves at Wolverine.

"Burn."

Logan probably would have killed Army, but all that body hair is suddenly ablaze. He lets out a howl and drops to the ground, trying to stop burning.

Sabretooth is slashing madly, now that he's blinded by the mail over his head.

Jake comes down at Sabretooth with a light sword and tries to take the arm off at the shoulder while blasting at his knees

Jake is successful given that Sabretooth can't see. The arm hits the ground and the knee is pretty fucked up. His other arm slashes across Jake's chest.

Jake stumbles back gripping his chest and falling back, sending another shot at Sabretooth's other knee as he goes down

Taking two steps back, Marty slaps the chainmail and sets it to explode. Then dives away for his damn life.

"Thanks, Ama." I stand up, pretty groggy, but with enough strength to pick Wolverine up by the legs and start slamming him into the ground, trying to knock him out.

Sabretooth's knee is beyond fucked up now….then his face and what not explode…a lot. Pieces of Sabretooth land on just about everyone.

Wolverine is howling like crazy as he's slammed into the ground, but he's not passing out.

Jake twists and begins unloading on Wolverine, aiming for the knees and neck

"…arm's starting to get tired, here…" I just keep slamming away, trying to ignore the beasty chunks.

"Hey, hey, watch it!" I let Wolverine go so I can dodge Jake's blasts.

Post by Protoman on Aug 20, 2007, 12:06am

Logan can't dodge, every one of Jake's blasts hit. His healing factor is trying to keep up with the burning, but it's not doing that great of a job. His knees are burned down to the bone pretty quickly, his neck still looks alright.

Logan's free in time to dodge out of the way of Jake's blasts. The claws pop out again and slash DEEP into Army's stomach…stuff is falling out.

"Take a breather Marty, you kicked the ass."

Jake pulls himself back up, powering up into a starfield as he stares down Logan, making a hand gesture to summon him

"Come on short stuff, show me what you've got."

Logan stares directly at Jake, he knows this is the one that took his claw. His body is still recovering from the burns left by Paige.

"Hrrhmm."

He runs at Jake, all 5 claws out. Moving fast, going for the kill.

Jake takes a deep breath as he watches the charge, counting the steps. When he sees Logan not risking the stop though, he unleahes a few more blasts at him, all focused on the neck and shoulders as he powers up his arm to work like a shield against the claws

"Oh dear God…" I kneel by Army, fighting not to act panicked. I wrap his torso in my, well his, jacket and animate it to wrap tight - unnaturally tight - around him to keep his insides inside.

"Bury him." I say shakily, focusing on the log wall, watching it tremble as I bring it to life. "Bastard's tough, but not super strong. Get him in place, I'll get the wall to come down on him."

"….ugh. Changed my mind."

Marty removes one of his shoes, shifts it into a lasso and tries to rope Logan's feet.

Jake's blasts hit their mark, causing him to stumble, giving Ox time to tie his feet. He goes down as the large wall off logs falls on him. There isn't any movement from under it.

The images fade, leaving them all in the Danger Room, unharmed. Havok walks in.

"Good job. I'd have liked it better if you didn't blow two of them up and if Army wasn't about to die, but good job. Give you guys a few minutes to rest and we'll move on to the next task." He says, smiling.

«ZOMG! Teamwork….from NMW? O_O»

«Also, that's it for tonight. Feel free to talk here a bit and we'll do the second task tomorrow night.»

"Safeties…" I never turn them on when I'm in here and consistently forget that we even have them… sort of leads me to treat everything real. I clutch Army in a tight hug, whispering, "Let that happen to you in the real world and I'll finish you off myself."
