[[If we have enough people check in, we can begin this. Since I'm unsure of the status of the Hellions and Gen X, if they are still at the mansion, they can check in for this.]]

Anyway, I don't know if there was going to be much participation for mine, but you might be able to get it started around now since it was supposed to be around now.

[[This is for tomorrow morning. Just incase I oversleep. Gather/discuss here whenever you want.]]

The New Mutants are called to Beast's lab. An odd piece of technology, a rectangular pillar, quite obviously alien, sits in the center of the room, Beast pressing buttons, pulling levers, generally moving around, his grey fur shining in the lights of the machine, which alternate through the primary colors from emitters at the top, center, and bottom of the machine. He seems obsessed with a readout on one side. Muttering and frowning.

When everyone is there, Beast looks up at them, staightening his glasses, giving them a nod, and goes back to work. He looks worried.

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Post by Rapt "Roc"/Fragment/Fraternity on May 18, 2007, 11:28am

Beast looks to the New Mutants after they file in. "Good, good. You're here. Did any of you pass Scott on your way in? No? Nevermind then. Has Rogue briefed you on what has been going on?"

Beast looks at Rogue, who shakes her head, indicating no.

"Well then. I shall endeavor to make this brief. This machine," McCoy taps the alien machine next to him with a grey paw, "Measures, for lack of a better term, alterations to reality as we know it. Minor ones, that is. Major changes would completely override its defenses, and affect it as normal. Lately, its been picking up many small changes. Almost undetectable. But, with some work, I've managed to triangulate the location they seem to emenate from. And when Charles looked at the area using Cerebro, we located a mutant."

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Post by Pester on May 18, 2007, 11:32am

Pester casts aside his nagging curiosity about how the machine works. "So… It's a mutant who can make tiny changes to reality? What constitutes tiny? Is it on the level of turning Lime Jell-o into Orange, or giving us all AIDS?"

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Post by Armando "Army" Rosewell on May 18, 2007, 11:32am

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf

"Yes, tiny." Beast replies to Pester. "Such as, as Ms. Serden points out, color changes. We haven't been able to isolate scale, but so far as we can tell, nobody has had a fatal alteration."

Beast turns to Marisol.

"The location, we believe is a park, not far out from the mansion."

"I had to ask…"

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Post by Marianne "Lucifer" Thorley on May 18, 2007, 11:42am

I stare at the machine for a moment, a little curious, a little concerned. I was going to ask about it, but decide against it. Any answer I’d get would go straight over my head, anyway. Something that can operate to that function likely would.

Still, the prospect of something that can detect reality warping – even if it’s just on a small scale – is fascinating.

Not the concern right now. I can be curious later. Right now, I’m a little more interested in the fact that there must some mutant out there who’s manipulating reality on some scale. There’s not much to be done for it… using that kind of power is wrong. But that might just be me. You could do good with it, but you’d be changing things you wouldn’t have any right to change to do it.

Is that what we’re here for? To ask whoever it is to not use the powers? And to bring whoever it is here so that he or she can get the control needed to not use it accidentally?

I keep quiet for now, listening to Dr. McCoy intently.

Beast turns to Orchestra. "I don't believe that it was his or her specific goal. Reality does not like to be changed. It attempts to right itself, returning to the same general shape it was in. I believe to balance out, minor changes are made, to return to equalibrium. As for the reasons a person would do so, I could not venture a guess."

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Post by Pester on May 18, 2007, 11:47am

"It attempts to right the big changes by making little changes. Since you experienced a little change, wouldn't that mean she can make bigger changes? Ah whatever, I'm getting a headache. So should we go to the park and try to recruit whoever this is?"

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf

((Skipping to the jet then.))

Rogue ushers everyone into the jet, taking off, jetting through the sky. At one point, the team see's Fuchsia colored cloud. It is quite interesting. The jet doesn't experience any troubles, and the team lands on the empty parking lot outside of a park.

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Post by Kurt "Nightcrawler" Wagner on May 18, 2007, 12:12pm

When the New Mutants land, and disembark from the jet, they find themselves at a park. Trees line the park's border, just inside the fence, obscuring any view of the interior. A flock of playpus' peek out from between the cast iron fences bars. They stare at the mutants curiously.

Those entering the park encounter….

A cackling sound, drawing gazes upward. A figure out of a children's story hangs in the air. A witch, on a broom, with dark green skin and warts and all, complete with a long crooked nose. The only real deviation from the stereotypical story witch is that instead of black, her robe and hat are a deep blood red. A large black cat perches on the broom, a deep growl (fitting its size, almost as large as a medium sized dog.) She waves a wand, an azure blast throwing dirt up from Pesters feet, at his face.

"Hey guys! If you're done playing with the Pokemans, we could use a hand!"

As Kelly rubs the Platypus goodbye, it seems to not want to have her go. So it kicks her with a hind foot. Something scratches her. It hurts a bit, a pulsing pain.

Did you know a male platypus is actually venomous, through a spur on the hind legs? They are.

"Hehehehe, my pretties!" Even the banter she gives is cliche. She ducks, just barely, under Alexia's club, which just manages to knock her crimson hat off. In return, she fires another blast from her wand, just clipping Alexia in the arm.

“Ow! Wjat?” Torn jeans. Blood. Platypii have stingers (or whatever it used on me)? It – ow – feels weird…

I try to ignore it and stagger towards the rest to help them. All the while, it starts hurting more and more.

The witch is cut off mid-cackle, by the suddenly appearing Orchestra. She didn't expect that, and he manages to get a solid grip on her. She can't bring her wand to bare on anyone now.

After finally rubbing the dirt out of his eyes, Pester glares at the enormous, freakish cat. He awesomely whips out his super cool sword and takes defensive stance away from the cat, circling around with the cat. He decides to give it a chance to surrender.

"Rawr…. RAWR!"

One of the platypus (not the male that stung Kelly) trails after Roxie, trying to fit its bill into her pocket to search for food, with little luck.

The blast hits Alexia's heild that she threw up the moment she saw it coming. She stumbles back a bit from the force of it, but she's unharmed.

Orchestra seems to have the witch. I'll help with the cat.

The club reappears and goes to smack the cat on the head.

He proceeds off towards the witch.

The cat seems to be wary of Pester's claw, which is a lot shinier and longer than its own. It backs off slightly, but still circles. And then gets whacked on the head.

Kelly's stinging is avenged by Blind! Hurrah!

The Witch gives Evil Cackle(TM). Well, tries. Have you ever tried cackling when being choked? Its hard to do. She struggles, but Orc has a solid grip. The broom wavers, and they both start falling as the witch loses her focus on it.

“…Guess we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

I consider firing a blast at her, but decide against it. I don’t need the pain right now.

… God that’s selfish.

I grit my teeth and pull some light in from around me, ignoring the feeling of swallowing broken glass. It settles around my hand, sort of a blast held still. I extend my arm, aiming at the witch and waiting for a clear shot.

The pain runs up my leg and I lose focus, accidentally firing the blast.

Big Cat growls, unsteadily. It might have a concussion, but it still is standing.

Kelly's blast fires. She may not have a clear shot, but she still had one. Witch and Orchestra take the shiny beam on the sides, the Witch taking most of it, but Orc still feeling the pain. The Witch, in combination with no air, and being shot, blinks, and is out. Orc and Witch crash with a THUD

With a pop, everyone's attention is drawn to a crack in the cement path. A silvery substance is bubbling above ground, forming a puddle. Then a man-sized pillar, which shimmers, reshaping, and forming into the details of a person; a man, to be specific. Reminding anyone familiar, somewhat of Posiedon. Or the second Terminator model. One liquid metal arm lashes out as a whip, the thing going straight into the offense, sending Alexia flying into a tree. She seems to be unconcious.

((Proto had to leave, so she's down.))

Golem mimics Hulk, and SMASHES. Mercury-Man is squished again, some of him splashing around the immediate area once more. He reforms, but shorter, not calling up the lost matter, though if he can't, or won't, is unclear.

It doesn't see Golem coming. It takes a solid hit sending it into the hole. Even as it falls, though, it manages to grip a rock, and sling it around, throwing it wildly. Unfortunetly for our heroes, Kelly is in the path of it. It hits her with a nasty 'crack' sound, and she stumbles, and falls. She's out. But so is Mercury-man.

Whirr, click click. A tiny (maybe a foot tall, at most) figure awkwardly marches at the mutants. Made of red and gold plastic, the Iron-Man toy even has a windup key on his back. Its LED eyes flash, it raises its arm, pointing its palms at the mutants. A recording of a repulsor ray plays, and a pair of red laser pointers turns on, harmlessly going back and forth over Roxanne. Whirr, click click.

Crap. Looks like everything's about to go to hell, and it all happened under your watch.

"Kid, don't make things any worse than they already are…."

Though that would probably mean a lot more if Blind hadn't just nutshot the bastard. Twice.

"That…really …hurts." The kids voice sounds almost an octave higher. He's barely concious now, after the cheap shot, and Rogue's fondling.

What's wrong with you? Why aren't you doing anything? Are you insane?

Pester begins wandering about, picking flowers. He will make Rogue a bouquet, that she will enjoy when she makes her way back. Ahhh… Life is nice.

The kid rolls to glare at Blind, and mutters. "A bird is about to poop on you."

One does.

Stop it you fool! Get a grip!

Pester, relaxed to the point of madness, ignores the voice in his head as he calmly walks over to Rogue and presents her with a lovely bouquet.

"I found you some flowers, they struck me as very pretty."

Rogue sighed, "Hey, I had no problem with the first punch. Kicking a man while he's done is pretty unneccessary." She shakes her head, "It's just a childish way of behaving!"

Rogue smiles at Pester, "Thanks, Josh! You're a nice guy, you know that?"

Pester suddenly stands up tall, and arches his shoulders back. Somehow, the sun is shining brighter and the grass is greener. And that's all because Pester is there. This is a young man who can do no wrong, for he is, pure and simple, just a nice guy. And that's how he rolls.

"Wulfman, Wulfarooney, my pal Wulfbagel. You come with us, or we'll kill you where we stand. Because that would be for the greater good."

Pester speaks with the pure conviction of a man who feels no doubt that he is doing the right thing.

He puts his hand on the handle of his sword.

Pester takes a moment to register Rogue's words. He shrugs casually.

Normally, if someone did what Roxanne tried, it would just be starting to build him a cairn. But, since it is Roxanne, she can alter the sizes of the rocks, fit them to the right size.

He's no longer bleeding out (as badly), but he's still in bad shape. What with being stabbed in the chest.

Interesting toy. It hasn't damaged anybody or anything, maybe Roxie can bring it home with her. It would be a nice gift.

He passes by it without incident.

Re: New Mutants #126 - The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Post by Kurt "Nightcrawler" Wagner on May 18, 2007, 3:15pm

Rogue feels a strain on her mind, which alleviates quickly, fading even as her tomato colored skin does. Pester also turns back to normal coloring. Wulf is breathing easily again, though he's still out. The rocks Roxie was using still cover him, but they don't fit his wounds anymore - he doesn't have them.

Theres a faint…'crack' sound, kind of like thunder, but its only there so quickly, nobody is sure they even heard it.

Then they hear the crack of wood breaking. If they look back, where the giant cat was taking a nap, this falls out of the tree.

The Crimson Witch is replaced by:

395px-MYSTIC_ARCANA_SCARLET_WITC%20H.jpg
And the Iron man Toy grows in size, and loses the wind up key.

The Mercury Man, however, oozes up from under the ground, and solidifies into

Quicksilver.png

Pester feels like a Scumbag again, and nobody's unnaturally calm anymore.

As Rogue passes the power back to Wulf, a certain realization passes over Pester like a wave. He's too far from the team for them to see exactly what his reaction is, as he walks into the jet and disappears somewhere in the back row of seats.
