Hellions 3 Part 2

Re: Mission 3 - And You Had A Really Bad Day…

[Speaking of which…]

That hurt. That actually hurt.

They were a persistent bunch, she had to give them credit. Power-wise they weren't quite as interesting as the New Mutants, but they were intriguing in their own way. Wilder, more untamed. Unpredictable. She typically hated surprises, but the Hellions made it worth the while. It was…fun.

But she didn't like losing, and she especially didn't like losing to children; it made her feel vaguely like a Scooby Doo villain. And while she was fairly certain she could demolish those four with relative ease, there would be more coming soon. Her odds were in the process of dwindling.

So instead of charging back in, Carmen took stock of her current situation. No need to bring the fight to them since she already had everything she needed to turn a profit; Wildfire's mental stimulant would do well on the street if she could recreate its formula - and she was certain she could. No, no, better to lay and wait and get them on their way out of Murder World when their security was dropped. And she had just the thing to help decrease their strength in numbers.

Smiling, Carmen took out her own bottle of Mutant Growth Hormone.

Nexus fades away quickly and quietly, morphing into Erebus' massive form, melting into it, becoming it. The scales vanish, the body disappears, and Erebus feels Nexus go into him. All of Nexus.

Refreshing, isn't it? The feeling doesn't last.

It starts with one thought, a random thought that Erebus didn't think. Then a feeling. Then whatever passes for an emotion in Nexus' head. Then it comes all at once, a deluge of sensations, and while they are similar to Erebus', markedly similar - they're not his. Nexus is alive and well, making his home inside whatever passes for Erebus' soul, and while he can't escape, he can make the place more accomodable. Nexus and Erebus are merging.

"My, my, my, my, my, this is interesting." Nexus' voice echoes in Erebus' mind, and it sound more ike his own by second. "It's nice in here. It could use a homey touch, I suppose, but all things with time…unless, of course, you don't want to share this space of yours. I'll be honest with you, we do see to be of…like minds. There's no reason beings such as us can't reach some kind of understanding."

Nicolette stepped closer to Wildfire herself.

"Please don't say things like that," she said with a curious combination of strictness and softness.

Interesting indeed.

At its master's behest, Chernabog touches down on the facsimile of Bald Mountain and assumes a thoughtful pose. Erebus was confident - arrogant even - in his own will power. On a whim he could use it to move an entire army of wraiths. He could could form behemoths such as the one he was merged with now. But he wasn't positive that he was ready to bet his sense of individuality on raw will power alone.

He briefly wonders, as Nexus merges further with his soul, if he even wants to fight it. How much of a difference would there be? He could feel and sift through all that composed Nexus as they slowly became one - and the two of them were not all that different from one another. Had things rolled out differently - and had they not both been so ruled by their egos - they could have been allies at the very least. To say "friends" would have been pushing it, regardless of what the circumstances were. Was a merger of souls with Nexus such a horrible thing? Ultimately, it probably wasn't.

But Erebus was far too much a creature of ego to allow himself to be overwritten, even partially. "An understanding?" Using his powers over souls to reach into his own, Erebus searches for the sparks he requires to do what needs to be done. He does not particularly look forward to it, but it is necessary. "Our understanding is this:" He finds what he needs.

Sparks. Elements of himself that he typically denies the existence of, but now needs. The leftover bits of humanity from his former existence. The fragments of light which Kelly forced inside of him but was unable to remove in their entirety. Hope. Love. Optimism. Compassion. Empathy. And more. All of that… ugh… good stuff. It was a persistent light in the darkness, but it was minimal. At the moment anyway.

Ebbing away and amplifing emotions was a large part of what he did when he did when he manipulated people's souls. Today he would do the latter. It happened in a flash of pain and torment. Grasping on to every last spark of light in his soul, both what belonged to him and what Kelly left there, he amplifies it all a thousand times fold. The pain is agonizing. Kelly had done it to him on a much smaller scale and that had been enough to put his soul in turmoil as the light combated the darkness. It tore through his soul again now, but this time it did the same to Nexus who was attempting to merge with him. Erebus didn't like the pain of the sensation by any means, but he had already proven himself capable of withstanding it once before. This would be Nexus' first time.

The light faded back to its prior form soon after it started. "You are a guest in here. A passenger if you will." Gritting his teeth, breathing heavily, and sweating, Erebus amplified the light once again - pushing it even further this time. The first time was to separate Nexus' soul from his own. This time he was just driving home a point. As the light flared within him he screamed into the infinite night. "I AM THE CAPTAIN OF THIS VESSEL! NEVER FORGET THAT!"

Post by Last Hero on Jan 23, 2007, 8:23am

As Nexus is forced out of Erebus's body and sould, he screams as well; a scornful moan as he pulls himself back together. That light, that damned light…it burned. It was almost as painful as Wreck's accursed entropy blast, and it was even more startling because he hadn't expected it in the least. How could a being like Erebus do that, how could someone so consumed by the darkness, someone who claimed to be a god and was fairly capable of backing the claim, create such an accursed-

Oh.

Nexus' scream fades away and gentle laugh replaces it, one that grows louder and more raucous, reaching maniacal proportions after only a minute. Nexus did not leave Erebus' soul empty handed. He saw things. Important thing. An important person. A weakness. "Arthur Allan, you greatly amuse me!" His voice spreads, coming from whole of the darkness, and Erebus' can feel his form slip away - Nexus is retreating. But what good villain leaves in silence? "Ah, to be young. And foolhardy. It's a shame, the world will never know just how close it came to be engulfed by darkness this day; if we had merged…oh, the power, boy. The being we would have created would be a thing of infinite beauty."

A construct of Kelly appears before Erebus; smiling, eyes wide, her usual ray-of-sunshine self. "But I see you already have a partner in mind. Somewhat interesting…somewhat pathetic. She's making you bleed, boy." Kelly's form starts to wither and decay; flesh rotting, bones sagging, form deteriorating. "She's making you weak. But keep her close, yes, that is wise. Because I'll be waiting and watching from every shadow. Biding time. And the moment you let her out of your sight, the second she finds herself alone in the shadows, I will consume that beautiful peach. And then you."

He's nearly gone now; the Kelly construct becomes little more than a heap of rotting bones. "I'll let you claim the victory here, if you wish; my only mission was to keep you occupied, and I believe that's been accomplished. As a reward for amusing me, I'll let you in on something that might be of value: Your 'friend' Kelly is likely under the scalpel of my employer at the moment. I'd suggest you hurry, before she does something to poor Kelly that can't be undone."

No more Nexus. Gone.

"Where Shinobi went? Beats me."

I shrug.

"He definitely ran, and is unlikely to come back. If I had known of this raid ahead of time, I probably could have stopped him. But…whatever. As far as associates, he doesn't really have friends, and the only people that he really hangs around are the people he can pay to hang around him. I know he was tight with The Hand for a while, but I think that went sour. Beyond that, I just don't know."

"I might have some idea." Sage walks in, with Angel supporting her. Warren looks at Ixnay and nods, before helping Sage take a seat at Shinobi's desk. "I was on a path the last time I came here, and I was interrupted before I could thoroughly see where it led. Give me a moment and I should be able to bring a list of Shaw's most recent contacts."

While Sage gets to work, Warren addresses Ixnay; he seems half-disappointed, but not surprised. "Jay." He nods, oddly mum. "How are your parents?"

"Warren. A pleasure as always."

I look around the office a little, not even giving him my full attention.

"My parents are, last I knew, fine. And I don't see any reason they wouldn't be. Or at least fine for them. Shaw has no reason to do harm to them as he believes me to be the most faithful of the Hellions. He may, sadly enough, be correct. But that's a lot like being the most healthy biotoxin."

!UPDATE!

Prime, Blind, Naga, Star and Dusk have just finished temporarily repelling Carmen, after a brief but fairly intense battle.

Wildfire is currently with them; however, Carmen's surgery had rendered her unable to generate flame.

Erebus has managed to emerge victorious against Nexus, after a tumultuous battle in the Darkforce dimension.

Tangle has managed to defeat a rather odd spider-bot, and is free to join the others once he leaves the room

Knave has defeated a rather odd mutant by the name of Gaku, who had energy projection powers and was slightly demented.

Ixnay is currently with the X-Men, who have just finished raiding the Hellfire Club and are currently trying to figure out where Shaw and the other Hellions went off to.

Masstress is still engaged with a bunch of small, robotic children. After she crushed their gym teacher, the kids are now looking to her as their new master.

Carmen is just fine after being launched by Star's best attacked; the blow knocked the sense out of her for a little bit, but she's not seriously injured. That bottle of MGH is looking awfully tempting, though.

Wildfire starts to fade out as Naga's anesthetic really kicks in, but as she does, she points to a small bottle lying on a table nearby, next to a few of Carmen's tools. At a glance, the bottle seems to contain the same liquid Carmen was showing them earlier. There's also a bottle with a few pills in it, with a label that lists a bunch of medical ingredients that none of them would likely understand.

"Oh. It's about that."

I look fully at Warren.

"You know how my father is. He resists change. He resisted me joining the Hellions until Shinobi put pressure on him, and I'm sure he would have resisted me going to your school just as much. He doesn't want to see me as a mutant, and he doesn't want to see you as a mutant. After a while, he got used to the wings. It will take longer for him to get used to the blue skin. It's not so much that he's a bigot or anything, it's just that the whole concept of mutants scares him. I scare him, even though there's not a thing I could feasibly do to him. I have possibly the most passive mutant power ever. Consider how much you scare him. Especially now."

I shrug.

"I know that's hard for you to absorb, Mr. Worthington. But I thought you should know the truth, the truth I've been living with. Why do you think I'm in New York and not Newport? I'm not entirely welcome there anymore."

«And, for the record, Jay is lying a lot to try to gain sympathy.»

Bald Mountain and Chernabog melt into their component darkness. Erebus slowly descends towards the ground. Oh. The ground. A mental muscle flexed returns the raging waters that Nexus summoned back to the solid surface it was previously. He lands and stands there in silence for a moment. He ensures that the light within him which he called upon to exorcise Nexus has been returned to as small a size as he can make it. He is at it for slightly longer than necessary, trying to make it smaller than it was before this debacle but he ultimately faces that he can not do this and leaves it as it is. It's here to stay, which he really did know beforehand, but it was worth a shot.

After he is done he looks out into the night for a while longer as he regains his composure. Had he pushed it farther, who knows, perhaps he would have proved capable of destroying Nexus. But there was no way to go farther without changing himself permanently - which he had not been about to do. Nexus' threats against Kelly… Erebus was not too worried. Erebus and Nexus shared many things in common - Wreck's entropy and Kelly's light being among the few things capable of disrupting their powers was one of them. There was a human component to Erebus - Nexus was all Darkforce. Should he push Star there was a very real possibility that it would be the last thing he did before being dispersed forever.

Erebus knew this. But it did not make him any more content at being threatened.

Had he not been in the process of restoring his composure he would have done something drastic, flashy and rage filled. As things stood he just stood there gritting his teeth, and promising to himself that if they met again only one of them would walk away. He nearly - nearly - attempted to go after him. But there was the small matter of the person who hired the little lackey to battle him in the first place. He learned of the location of the others and the face of the bitch in question from Nexus' mind when they were still connected. The darkness converges on him and he is gone.

—-

Erebus walks up from behind Prime, Star and the others, surely having come in from a shadow somewhere. He looks down at Wildfire dismissively before asking,

"Carmen Rosewell. Where is she? I'm going to skin her alive."

"Disappointing. So disappointing…"

Even though this inevitably happens every time Arcade traps superpowered individuals, he can't but be a little saddened this time; he'd gone to so much trouble getting these deathtraps set up, and they just had to go and ruin them by escaping. Of course, not all of them were out yet…but things weren't looking too good. If he'd been given more info, he could've done a better job. He was sure of it.

Next time, then.

It was time for the classic hasty retreat - Shinobi Shaw had already made his, going off to who knows where - and Arcade was prepared to take his leave, too. But not before leaving his guests with a few parting gifts…

A few button presses, and robots - many, many robots, began to work their way through Murderworld, converging on the Hellions any minute now…

Yes, it could get better. They're robot CLOWNS.

They pour in through the door and surround the group, laughing, jumping, spraying water everywhere, giggling, throwing pies, doing cartwheel, honking their noses - there's dozens of them just fitting into the room and, it looks like there's more of them waiting in the hall. The clowns circle the group, surrounding them with smiles that grow wider as they shift into attack mode…

After that little introduction - Naga's a real charmer, isn't she? - Blind manages to lead Naga to the control room, where the smell of expensive cologne hangs in the air, courtesty of Shinobi Shaw. There are a variety of different screens, showing all the deathtraps and the remaining Hellions within them, as well as the room where Prime and the others are fighting off robots. There's also a camera that shows Carmen walking around near a rather huge set of doors, what would appear to be the exit. There are numerous controls, but a few grab Naga's attention.

SELECT AI TARGETS - This button is flashing red, and the button next to the screen that has Prime and the others on it seems to flashing in unison with it.

MAIN POWER - ON/OFF

SECONDARY POWER - ON/OFF

ATTRACTION POWER - ON/OFF

Carmen waits by lobby area in front of the exit, another bottle of Pepsi in hand, thinking about how she'll fight when the brats finally arrive. Arcade had the place set up rather well for her style of fighting - plenty of tents to hide in, bright lights, a Ferris Wheel, looking for all the world like your average carnival. Good atmosphere.

She looks to the other side of the room and prepares to hide when she hears footsteps coming, but she stops when it becomes way to apparent that there far, far too many footsteps for who she's expecting. It's those damned clowns of Arcade's.

"Shit." She takes on final sip from her Pepsi and tosses it away, as the crowd of clowns begins to swarm all over her. "Fucking hate clowns…"

The group heads and travels down the hall, which has, thankfully, been emptied on any killer clown robots. The place is labyrinthine; there are dozens and dozens of doors along the hallway, each one opening up to a new deathtrap, and not a one of them is marked…but finding the right door isn't hard. It's the one where all the yelling is coming from.

The Hellions reach the right door and open it to find themselves in the middle of a massive indoor amusement park, one that's in the process of being ripped to pieces.; dismantled clown-bots are all over the place. Carmen stands on the other side of the park, right in front of the exit, dealing with the last few robot clowns. She doesn't look any worse for the wear, but she looks a little different than the last time they saw her: he skin has a reddish color, indicating an extreme blood flow within, and her body's generating so much heat that her sweat seems to be vaporizing. Her bodies working overtime.

"Finally." She looks towards the approaching Hellions as she smacks the head off one robot with the flick of her wrist. "I thought you brats would never get here. I was starting to get bored."

Nicolette's manages to hit Carmen, but she'll likely wished she hadn't.

Carmen's skin is noticeably harder than before; it feels like hitting a brick wall…or, whatever would feel like hitting a brick wall to Prime. Not only that, but she learns about the next change in the following second, when Carmen moves with staggering speed, nearly - very, very nearly - catching Nicolette with a chop to the neck. The blow is so intense that even the air from it knocks Nicolette back a bit.

"I'm going to pay for what I did, am I?" Carmen steps back and smiles, gingerly tapping her foot on the floor and sending out cracks all around. "Somehow, I doubt it."

Post by Alexander "Cadmus" Baptiste on Jan 23, 2007, 5:18pm

Attack, but don't let yourself be caught? Magnificent strategy. I can see why she's in charge.

His shadow broke into three rectangular segments and positioned themselves around him. After spreading his arms span he gives a nod and shadowy mass from the Darkforce enters through the three gateways and wraps around him. Reaching the sheer size that he had maintained in the Darkforce Dimension would take too much time here on Earth at this time of day so he settled for a smaller size. Of course, "smaller" is a relative term. When he was done his form stood at roughly ten feet, though the wings gave the image of him being larger. Not being one to toss away a form until showing it off as much as possible, he had assumed Chernabog's, though significantly smaller, shape once more.

In a couple flaps of the form's wings, Erebus is upon Carmen and attempting to slam her head - ears specifically - between his fists.

With a wheeze, Nicolette pulled herself together and flew off once again, carefully heading for the air above Carmen.

That woman was talkative. Sooner or later, she would say something. When she did, Nicolette would swoop down and jam her hands in her mouth, then pull her jaws apart as hard as she possibly could. And hope she didn't lose any ligaments… Actually, she was already starting to doubt Naga could POSSIBLY create anything strong enough to affect her. But… oh, well.

Re: Mission 3 - And You Had A Really Bad Day…
Post by Dillon "Time-Hopper" Drummond on Jan 23, 2007, 5:19pm

Now to have some more fun with her. Just gotta alter the way light strikes the lenses in her eyes and she won't be able to see us…well…she will, but we'll be a few feet away. Heh.

"Take this!" I scream, launching a kick at Carmen's head,

Why am I kicking her?

Re: Mission 3 - And You Had A Really Bad Day…
Post by Last Hero on Jan 23, 2007, 5:29pm

Kelly's light blasts don't do much more than irritate Carmen, but they do keep her occupied - when Erebus comes at her from behind in his Chernabog form, she doesn't see him until it's too late to dodge. He boxes her ears hard, and she cries out in rage; since her ears are made of cartilage, their not quite as hard as the rest of her body. She's quick to retaliate, grabbing Erebus by the wrist and slamming him unceremoniously before her, dragging him through the concrete and tossing him aside.

"Do you really this is-" She's interrupted by a kick in the face, courtesy of Kidd. It doesn't hurt Carmen, and but it does hurt Kidd, sending jolts of pain down her shin. "You just don't learn, do you?"

She raises her fist and looks ready to knock Kidd's head off, when Nicolette finally pounces, coming down on her from above and trying to pull Carmen's jaw off. For a second it looks like it might actually worked; Carmen is caught totally by surprise, it's an unorthodox method…but Nicolette's not quite strong enough. Not quite. Carmen grabs her by the head before she can get away and wraps her hands around Nicolette's head, squeezing, threatening to crush her skull.

Re: Mission 3 - And You Had A Really Bad Day…
Post by Marisol "Solidity" Morales on Jan 23, 2007, 5:32pm

Nicolette's first order of business, rather than to escape, was to make sure she didn't scream. She was successful… she didn't even grunt from the horrific pain she felt. But it was getting worse…

Once she was more or less capable of putting together a thought, she sent a clumsy kick towards Carmen's crotch. It was a foolish thing to do, for several reasons, especially for what she said…
"Sorry…" she wheezed out, "I thought you were a man…"

Then she jammed her fingers into Carmen's eyeballs. They were soft, right?

He rolls a few times before digging his claws in the ground and forcing himself to come to a stop. How annoying. He takes to the air, swooping straight upwards. She was busy cracking Prime's skull. Good. Shifting part of his form into a gateway and calling from it mass from the Darkforce which he shaped into a long spear. Raising ever so slightly higher, he then swoops down towards Carmen with the intention of trying to put the spear through her.

Post by Dhaara "Naga" Falodiya on Jan 23, 2007, 5:43pm

Naga circles the melee carefully. There's very little chance she can get a good opportunity to deliver a toxin orally, and a skin-contact toxin probably wouldn't do much good. Still, a serpent has to be patient…she'll strike when she knows she can make it count.

Re: Mission 3 - And You Had A Really Bad Day…
Post by Last Hero on Jan 23, 2007, 5:43pm

Between Nicolette digging her fingers in her eyes, Kelly shooting a light blast into her mouth, and Blind robbing her of sight, Carmen is seriously distracted.

She lets Nicolette go, but not before giving a hard kick in the side for the 'man' comment; it's a wild kick, so it doesn't tear Prime in half, but there are quite a few ribs broken and Nicolette can feel this wet, sloshy sensation in her stomach; she's going to be glad she has that little healing factor.

Carmen's eyes and her insides are quite resiliant; relatively weaker than the rest of her body, but stronger enough that Nicolette doesn't rip her eyes out and Kelly doesn't fry her throat. Kidd's control of her electrical impulses seems to be making her a little sluggish, though, and Erebus' sneak attack scores first blood; it doesn't get straight through her, but it is strong enough to cut through her suit and make a fairly large gash on her back.

Re: Mission 3 - And You Had A Really Bad Day…
Post by Last Hero on Jan 23, 2007, 5:45pm

Now's the time. Naga pounces, moving quickly, silently, and gracefully, and grabs for the wound and squeezes. A clear, scentless liquid pours through her hands, the most potent neurotoxin she can manage, putting almost all of her reserves into the one shotsaving just a little in case it doesn't work. If it does, it should start to deaden her nerves and reflexesit'd inflict paralysis on a normal person, but who knows what it'd do for Carmen.

"That's for putting me in the stupid mushroom village."

Kidd's light daggers sting slightly, and Meghan's darkness blast nearly knocks her off her feet - getting pissed now.

Naga gets knocked away in the shockwave, but not before she gets to administer the drug - between Kidd shorting out her nerves and Naga's poison, she's starting to feel the heat. "God, hate dealing with kids…"

Carmen runs for it, heading for the exit at high speed.

Nicolette dragged herself up from the ground, where she had landed hard a minute ago. She was tenderly holding her abdomen, and blood was seeping out of her mouth. Rising into the air again, she rounded across the area to stand in the air before the exit.

"I don't think so," she said, mostly to herself, and flew towards Carmen again - feet first, aiming at her like a rocket.

Erebus flies through several booths before landing not so softly in a wall. His construct ate most of the impact but he was still feeling it quite a bit. All the same, he was grinning in his spot on the ground as he waited for his second wind. First blood. Can't be too long before we take last blood as well…

He was going to wait a bit before getting into it again himself, but that didn't mean he was out.

An small effort of will later and Carmen's shadow stands up behind her. Solid, though with blades in place of hands. The Carmen simulacrum slashes at the first wound that Erebus gave her.

Blind's pain shot and Kidd's kinetic punches both hammer into her. Kelly's light field slows her down. Naga's toxins start to hit their stride and Nicolette's kicks comes at her from the back

Carmen is brought to her knees.

She hits the ground hard, her knees cracking the concrete, breathing hard. She can still move, but the reddish color of her skin is starting to fade away - Naga's toxins are interfering with the hormones on top of everything else. "Meddling…kids."

"I'll give you two: Because you don't have anything strong enough and because I'd kill you if you tried. Back off." Carmen reach out and slaps Naga in the thigh; a weak blow but it's enough to knock her a few feet away and make a rather large bruises. "Heh."

Both of Kelly's blows hit and they knock Carmen over on her side - but she's still conscious. She just looks up at Kelly, with that same unfeeling glare. "It's a shame you don't have anymore family. I wouldn't mind killing them for that."

As if on cue, the exit doors blast open in a pitch of lightning, as none other than Storm flies into the room, Angel following close behind. Wolverine and Cyclops come in on the ground, and Ixnay hangs back at a safe distance - it's always good to have someone like him around, just in case.

"Children." Storm lands in front of them, staring with those blank eyes of hers. "What happened here? Where is Shinobi Shaw

Wolverine walks up behind, scoffing as he looks at all the damage. "I'm guessing he flew, darling. No way he'd stay for this heat."

Robbed of the ability to take down the cowardly lackey… and then he comes back and pulls his puppet master's ass out of the fire. Nexus… this is not over.

Erebus watches the X-Men storm in. He was not in the mood for it. Chernabog seems to expand outwards for a few seconds, but then it contracts rapidly, folding into itself. In an instant it's gone and so is Erebus. His voice lingers for a moment. "… I'll catch up with you whelps later."

Re: Mission 3 - And You Had A Really Bad Day…
Post by Dhaara "Naga" Falodiya on Jan 23, 2007, 8:17pm

Dhaara stays quiet as the situation defuses, and considers her current situation. Shaw had promised her more security and opportunity than she had in Bombay, but that turned out to be short-lived. She had to seize whatever opportunity she could now, and she had unfortunately alienated several of her teammates. Still, the situation wasn't unsalvagable. Any hostility could be attributed to the stress of being kidnapped, imprisoned, and in combat. She had pleanty of opportunity to sculpt the opinions of the others to her liking.

Nicolette had been in charge, but she could see that changing, easily. She admitted she was responsible for their situation—Naga doesn't quite know how, but her position is tenuous, at best. If she wanted the be in control, Prime would be her scapegoat

Blind could make a valuable ally, but he was unpredictable, mysterious. He will be the wild card in her equation. He'd be far more valuable on her side than against her, so she ought to not get on his bad side.

Erebus is by far the most dangerous of the group, Naga reasons, but has no idea how he would side in a conflict. She'd need to observe him more closely.

Jay was charismatic, smart, capable. He could be a problem for her, but he could also be an asset. Especially since he seems to a major player in the factions forming between the Hellions. Teenage drama could turn into the formation of some significant power structures ripe for the picking.

Meghan was part of Jay's 'faction' now somehow. She wasn't entirely sure what the situation was, but she'd find out to the point that it was relevant. She's hurt, confused…and willing to kill if she needs to. Naga saw that much, and knows that that's useful enough to be considered.

Then there was Kelly. Sweet, naive Kelly. Surprisingly powerful…but has none of Naga's edge. Not very fond of Naga right now, not at all. But her…mood seems to be fickle enough to allow her emotions to rule her. She saw the way she looked at Meghan, and at Jay. There was a rift growing, and Star was responsible for it in part.

She read Knave's dossier, and knew about the Gammadrop incident. Still, she seems more in control of her powers now…could an energy manipulator of her level deal with Dusk's powers? Or Star's? Or any of the X-Men's? Maybe she ought to throw her chips in with Kidd…

Either way, things were changing…and Dhaara was certain that she would be the one to capitalize on that change, that was for certain. For now, she's quiet, she complies, and is oddly polite, but not to the point where she'd be putting on aires. When the time comes, she'd strike.

You didn't deserve what I said to you afterward, which was just me trying to make myself feel better about it. And that's all I really think I should say to you at this point, at the risk of making it worse. Again. I was right back on the beach…I don't deserve you."

I turn and walk off.

I chase after Jay and wrap my arm around him. I whisper in his ear.

"You'll always have me…"

Nicolette hovered to the X-Men and took up a position before Cyclops. She looked amazingly proud, considering her chin was quite bloody and she was bent forwards slightly due to the pain. She was good at not showing her suffering, however.

"Good day," she said with a pleasant smile, "Shaw's gone, as well as her accomplice Carmen Rosewell. A few of us are still unaccounted for, but should be all right. Wildfire lies gravely injured in a lab a short distance away. As soon as you get them, we're ready to go."

«What happened to Arcade?»

"*Christ… I- I can't- I can't even… I'm sorry Kidd.*" I turned and ran to the back of the group as quickly as I could.

[Arcade took off. That was why he unleashed all those robots, to serve as a distraction of sorts.]

«Not to be a pest, but I think this needs to be finished off.»

[There's really nothing left to be done here, though. :/]

«Oh, okay. I just thought, cos we hadn't gone back for Wildfire, etc. you know?»
