Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 11:24am

It's ending. Finally.

From his bird's eye view, Zephyr's got a good view of the overall action; it would be much better if a certain lesbian hadn't stolen his goggles, but he gets by. It looks mostly alright; a few of the guys are banged up, but it doesn't seem like anybody really got thrashed. Nothing they can't shrug off with a good night's sleep.

Except for Lex. Lex is looking bad.

Zephyr drops fast, landing next to the pile of rubble that Heatwave's barely sticking out from, all the time wondering just who trashed him like this; Lex is pretty damn powerful, messing him up like this would've taken some serious might. "Lex!" He uses some wind to knock off the final piece, tossing a chunk of wall to the side. "Come on, Lex! Lex!"

"Run, man, just-" Lex coughs up a little blood on Zephyr's shirt, grimacing. "She's…she's too much, you need to get out of here before-"

"Stop talking so much, you're getting blood everywhere." Zephyr picks Heatwave up, trying to think of the nearest hospital, when a loud crash from behind interrupts the train of thought. Zephyr turns around, Lex looks over his shoulder, and their both mortified to see Gammadrop standing in a newly formed crater, gamma energy bristling around her, grinning wide. "What's wrong, Zephyr?" She takes one step forward, Zephyr takes one step back. "Say something about my breath. Come on. I dare you."

Alright, here's the deal.

The remaining conscious New Mutants/Hellions are:

Blind
Marisol
Nadia
Erebus
Star
Reflex
Dusk
Ixnay
Chi
Sephula
Voltage
Zephyr's going to leave and take Heatwave to a hospital, he won't be around for the bulk of this.

The remaining New Mutants now find themselves pitted againt Gammadrop (you can revive an unconscious character if you want, but I'd prefer to keep this from getting too complex). The situation, according to Oro himself:

"The more gamma radiation she expels (either by healing, firing it off or just burning it off when she stands still) she loses more and more of her Hulk-like characteristics.

She's not as sadistic as you'd think. To her, being Hulked-out is an incredible high and at the same time, drunkeness. The high makes her feel great, and she feels the drunkenss can be used to excuse away her actions.

She's not so much bad, she's just using her current physical and mental state (which isn't even as bad as she'd like people to think) as an excuse to act in a completely horrendus manner because she knows there won't be any repercussions.

Remember, she used to be a super-hero, she's got some good in her."

So we have a person with dwindling Hulk-like strength who's turning into an energy manipulate, neither of which are pleasant to deal with, and believes that she maim and hurt and kill without any reprucussions. Big problem. Time to put her down.

Chi looks at Gammadrop and takes a long deep breath, "All right…Hellions, might want to back off here. We have a lot more experience with this kind of thing. Uhm…at least, some of us do. Only person I've ever beaten is a giant cricket."

"Well, I'm sure I can maybe do something, but to be honest with you…I've never dealt with anything quite like this before. I'm not sure if shutting some of it off will kill her, which I don't want, or cause her to explode, which I want even less, or do something else that isn't good. I mean, I think we're only not dead right now because she's got a measure of control."

I look at the grotesque…whatever it is.

"And, uh, the other side of it is that just by saying all this, it's quite possible that she's going to kill me anyway before I can mess with her…stuff."

[You can have her wake up if you want. I'd just prefer to have the waking up be to a minimal, is all. If anybody wants to have their unconscious character wake up, go for it, just exercise a little caution with your posts. It's complicated enough with one team, you know?]

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy

"Shit!" Gamma blasts light up the sky as Zephyr goes airborne; he's weaving through the blasts as best he can, but they're coming fast, and Lex's weight is only making it harder. One of clips him in the back, burning through a swatch of his jacket and nearly getting skin. "Guys! Seriously!" He calls out, hoping anyone useful will hear him. "A little help here!"

Gammadrop's moving fast on the ground behind him; each blast seems to drain off more and more of her form, but each blast seems to get more and more powerful. Dusk gets her attention, but the only response she gives is a blast to the chest; not powerful enough to shoot through, but strong enough to knock her down flat. "Back off."

I hit the ground, not hard enough to really hurt. Just hard enough to make me wish that we didn't have to fight her. I push myself up off ground.

Chi has no idea how well his shielding will hold up against radiation. But, seeing Zephyr as a sitting duck, he decides he has no choice, "HEY, UGLY AND STUPID! THE HULK CALLED! HE WANTS HIS GIMMICK BACK!" I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead…

"Uh. I'd help if I had any idea what to do. These complicated powers…it's sort of difficult to avoid an 'and then everyone blows up' scenario without knowing how they all work together. And if I take them all, then we're left with about a Hiroshima and a half worth of radiation, and that won't end well for anyone."

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 12:11pm

If Chi wanted Gammadrop's attention, he gets it. In spades.

It only takes one gamma-powered punch to start breaking through the shield, and the second punch disperses it completely, knocking Chi away in a burst of energy. She's not content to just leave it at that, either; she raises her hand, charges energy, takes aim at Chi…

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy

Holding his chin, Blind seems to contemplate.

"……losing my interesting friend would be unfortunate, wouldn't it? So many observations yet to be made."

He raises a hand towards Gammadrop, attempting to shut off her vision.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jan 8, 2007, 12:15pm

Chi's head is pounding from the dropped field, but at least he should have given Zephyr enough time to get away. He tries to raise his hands to defend himself, but he knows that is pretty hopeless.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 12:15pm

Whether Blind means to or not, he just saved Chi's life. Gammadrop stops charging the energy and clutches her eyes, confused, like she could rip the blindness off. "Damn it! Fine, fine, fine! I don't have to see you idiots to hit you, anyway."

She starts expelling gamma radiation in random directions, sending bolts of the green energy flinging all over the place.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Marisol "Solidity" Morales on Jan 8, 2007, 12:22pm

Marisol looked at the new enemy thoughtfully. It wasn't very apparent from her features, of course.

She had been ready to charge at the green, glowy monster at a moment's notice, but had stopped abruptly once she'd seen it send off blasts of green light rapidly. Marisol was not a fan of blasts of light, for understandable reasons. Zephyr had been there, however… Now she wasn't sure what to do. Then she felt something stir within her - literally.

Someone was moving within her, with increasing strength. It could have been written off as a bad case of indigestion, until she suddenly found herself nearly being raised into the air. Marisol gasped when she found herself being forced down towards the ground, and up again - even higher than before. And it dawned on her that she shouldn't try to keep her contained…
The offender burst out of her. It was the one in the green jumpsuit… Zephyr's opponent. For a moment, she looked furious, then apparently caught sight of her surroundings and what was happening.

After a moment of shock, she regained her angry expression.

"Merdé…"

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Protoman on Jan 8, 2007, 12:22pm

I take to the air to hopefully avoid the Gamma blasts, "Alright fine, here goes nothing."

I go into my normal routine of energy blast, teleport, energy blast, teleport, etc. I really hope this works.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 12:27pm

One of Gammadrop's blasts lucks up and hits Blind; it's not a direct hit, burns off the side, but it's enough to make him give her his sight back, which lets Kidd see Dusk as she teleports around.

The teleporting's annoying, but the energy blasts don't even seem to do anything; there seems to be some sort of field aroud Kidd, and Dusk's attacks are just mixing with it. If anything, Gammadrop's getting stronger…and her smile would reinforce that.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Protoman on Jan 8, 2007, 12:28pm

Upon noticing Kidd smiling I stop throwing energy at her and teleport over to Nicolette's side.

"This isn't going to end well…is it?"

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy

"Perhaps we should negotiate," Siamko mutters as he clutches his side and again vanishes from sight.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 12:32pm

"Not for you, it's not." Gammadrop follows Dusk's teleport, noticing that Nicolette's up and about. Oh, the French girl, again. You're not going to try and talk me down with any sweet talk, are you?"

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Marisol "Solidity" Morales on Jan 8, 2007, 12:39pm

Nicolette couldn't deny that she wasn't at her peak right now… She had difficulty breathing, and felt a bit weak. But she was also angry…

Within the fraction of a second, she was hovering in the air before Gammadrop.

"No," she muttered, before whirling around and sending a kick at her face, then using the support of it to push herself away to 'safety'.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Michael "Chi" Placio on Jan 8, 2007, 12:40pm

Chi pops his head up, looking the field over to see if there is anything he can use to his advantage. Pretty much anything that can be turned into a weapon is his goal. Rocks? Sticks? Pieces of wood?

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 12:46pm

Nicolette's kick staggers Gammadrop, knocks her back, but most of it comes from surprise. While Kidd is noticeably smaller than usual and obviously weaker, but she's still strong enough that a kick like that doesn't faze her too much.

"Was hoping you'd say no. Don't think I can take much more of your bull." She starts firing on Nicolette, full speed, throwing the occasional shot Dusk's way. "You should die hugging your girlfriend or something, be poetic."

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Marisol "Solidity" Morales on Jan 8, 2007, 12:47pm

Marisol knew that this was dangerous. It might or might not have been as dangerous as her previous fight, and she'd won that with extremely carefulness. But there wasn't the time for that right now… it seemed like everything here could blow over any second. Even more so, that is… And would the monster even know about her weaknesses at the moment?

First of all, she left the still-unconscious Wildfire on the ground, sufficiently out of the way. Then she turned herself smaller. Pretty much as small as she could. She supposed she would have looked a bit like mutated piglet… She made a run for Gammadrop's position. She seemed sufficiently busy at the moment, so she might not have noticed her, especially if she circled around. And once she was under her, she'd turn herself into a big ball of spikes, pretty much. She kept the burrowing in mind for a quick getaway, if it became necessary.

Sigh. Looks like our fearless leader is (not) thinking with her fists.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Wreck on Jan 8, 2007, 12:55pm

Having moved elsewhere invisibly, Blind watches Marisol.

"……perhaps teamwork is in order? Sacrifices to preserve the whole."

Focusing on Kidd again, he affects her perception slightly. Just enough so that she wouldn't notice Marisol coming.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Marisol "Solidity" Morales on Jan 8, 2007, 12:57pm

Nicolette turned into a more horizontal position, and tried to rocket out of the blasts' way as best as she could. It wasn't entirely successful, considering the sheer amount of gamma energy flying around. She took several hits, every one of which hurt like a bitch and made her feel successively weaker.

She naturally headed away from Gammadrop… for now. Somewhere along the way, she caught Ixnay's comments. She stopped in the air beside him.
"Ideas? Shut her down." Her voice was focused, but with a slightly hysterical note. She noticed burn marks where the bolts had hit her and swore.

"I'll be going for a more permanent way to blind her," she stated, and blasted off again. Her plan was simple. She had thought of it during her sparring session with Kidd, just in case… Get close quickly, jam her nails into her eye sockets and rip her eyes out.

Try to… she reminded herself.

Gammadrop steps on the Marisol-Ball. Not pleasant.

The pain gets her attention and she howls in pain, distracted. Thanks to Blind's interference, she doesn't notice the source of it all, but it's only a matter of time…

For the moment, though, she's distracted. Greatly.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy

Move now! I jump into action, flying as close to Kidd as I can get. I fire off the most powerful blasts I can directly into the back of Kidd's head.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 1:05pm

While Dusk's attacks do catch Gammadrop by surprise, it seems that her ability to absorb energy…just happens. It's just making Gammadrop stronger, and the field of energy around her is getting more choatic and unstable.

WAY more ugly. But the problem is, if I just start shutting down her shooting or her powering her fists, she'll still have the other available, and I can't just swap them in and out, it'll tire me out."

Siamko whispers towards Dusk, the effect carrying across the battlefield to her.

"….that method seems futile. As distasteful as I find the suggestion, are you capable of shunting her into the Darkforce like our friend Erebus?"

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 1:16pm

Gammadrop starts to get more sense about her, and the sudden rush of energy caused by Dusk, and she focuses on the one person on the battlefield who hasn't really antagonized her in any way yet: Ixnay.

She charges toward him, her energy field flaring like a bright green firecracker.

Nadia looks on as the hulking brute's energy field becomes increasingly worse. "Damn. We do, not need a Hiroshima of any kind in here." She breaks into a run towards Gammadrop, becoming adamantium along the way to avaoid being fried on her way their. Instead of physically engaging her though, she shifts once again once in Kidd's vicinity. Matching the radiation Kidd puts out, Nadia draws the excess energy from Gammadrop's field into herself before rocketing off towards the sky. She doesn't know if Kidd is going to blow or not - she's lacking information. But she hopes that by doing this, an explosion will be less of a risk.

Not too far away at all a very amused Erebus leans upon a booth, eating cotton candy.

[Oh, sorry, nearly forgot about Chi.]

Chi finds: A few scrap pieces of wood and metal from some of trashed rides, a DVD of some movies called Faster Pussykat! Kill! Kill! and Arsenic and Old Lace, various stuffed animals, some skee balls, and one of those large mallets you see in carnival fairs.

Chi picks up the mallet for a second, a smile appearing on his face. "This could work!" Chi picks up the skee balls, and holds them in place on his belt using his field's clamping abilities.

He moves as quickly as he can into positon. He's looking for someplace with cover as close as possible to Gammadrop, but without getting detected.

She's going to kill Jay…I don't have time to hesitate. I fly towards Kidd as fast as possible, grabbing her arm. "I'm sorry Kidd…" I teleport, hoping to pull her into the Darkforce with me.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 1:29pm

Both Ixnay and Nadia's ideas are good. It's just the timing that's bad.

Gammadrop's not actually producing gamma energy so much as she's expelling the gamma energy from her body; it's like she's rejecting the stuff in violent ways. Ixnay, however, did succeed in hampering her ability to release the energy like she was…

…but Nadia makes that a moot point when she start siphoning off the energy. Kidd's nearly human now; there's barely a trace of green left in her skin, but her energy manipulation skills are coming into play now; she raises a hand and starts yanking Nadia downward, dispersing her energy form about and controlling it with ease, nevermind what happens to Osmosis Lass.

"Thanks for that." Gammadrop - or Battling Princess Spectrum, as it may be now, smiles, speaking to Nadia as the gamma radiation swirls about her. "You made this much easier."

Hoping that he's covered well enough, Chi hurls a skee ball at the back of Kidd's head. He drops back down, hopefully out of sight…mallet clutched at his side.

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 1:34pm

[For the record, Ixnay turning off her power to control energy would be a very bad idea. All that energy's got to go somewhere…]

Dusk manages to get close, but she wishes she hadn't; the energy zaps her hard, knocking her away, and Kidd doesn't even notice she was there. Getting near Kidd is looking to be a difficult proposition…

But distracting her is as easy as ever; Blind's trick makes her take notice of Erebus, and she responds accordingly. "Get off your lazy ass!" She sends a huge bolt of gamma rays Erebus' way, destroying the area around him and giving him notice.

[Marisol succeeded in getting stepped on while she was a spikey ball, which enraged Gammadrop. It's probably best if both Marisol and Prime - and really everyone - keeps their distance.]

The skee ball, being made of metal, gets through and hits Kidd in the head. Since she's lost quite a bit of her Hulkness, it does hurt, but not enough to do anything more than alert her of Chi's presence and get another blast sent his way.

"Well, that sucked. It was nice knowing whoever that was that got turned into a battery. I'm seriously open to suggestions here."

I really have no idea what to do. If I drop the regeneration or the durability, someone punching her could make her explode. If I drop the energy channeling abilities, she'll probably explode. It doesn't look like she actually generates energy, which seems odd since she keeps releasing it. Where's all that gamma energy coming from? Why didn't I pay more attention in physics?

Well, I'm going to stop turning off powers and wonder what other options I have. I briefly consider contacting Heroes For Hire, but I don't think they could take her and it's completely possible that they're broken up again.

Powerless… Nadia thinks as what remains of her form floats out of her control. She attempts movement, but with Kidd in command of her body she can't even manage a shift into another form…

Erebus is looking down at his melted cotton candy. Shrugging he tosses the cone over his shoulder and gives Kidd his attention. "No madam, I believe I'm fine where I am. But thank you for the consideration." As he ends his sentence they begin crawling out of the woodwork. Or the shadows. Whatever. He decides on Roman Gladiators decked out with swords and shields - a small horde of them, emerging from all around Kidd and closing in - decidedly unaffected by radiation. Sending her to the Darkforce occurred to him, yes, but he was still holding out on somebody getting grievously injured.

"As for turning off individual powers, sure, I can. But I think turning off the durability might let all that delicious gamma energy explode, and I'm afraid I'm too delicate to deal with that kind of suntan. As for turning off her strength, she'll still be able to fire energy at us. I mean, I suppose I could turn off the regeneration, but what if that's the only thing keeping the gamma energy in check? Seriously, without knowing exactly how the powers work together, I could make this a lot worse while trying to make it better. I already probably killed whatshername."

She had to wonder if she could fly her into space, or something. Probably not. She was not painfully aware of the fact that she needed air to operate, and she doubted she could possibly fly high enough and throw her beyond the reach of Earth's gravitational pull.

Damnit, damnit, DAMNIT. She was doing absolutely nothing…

"Enough of this."

The gamma energy starts to fluctuate wildly, and there's a sudden drop in temperature from the surrounding environment…something big is coming.

Bad news: The energy around Kidd is reaching a feverish pitch; striking things at random, making all manner of light, scorching heat all around.

The good news: Because it's so unstable, there are more holes around the field, areas where, if someone was fast enough and brave enough, they could dodge in and do some damage with fairly minimal pain. It's a risk, yes, but so is letting Kidd charge up for whatever she's charging up for.

Kelly

Can she absorb light? Is it energy, technically? I've got to try something, she's destroying us! I fire a blast at Kidd just of light, trying to blind her.

"Kidd, whatever's come over you, you can shake this off! We're your friends!"

Siamko frowns at Erebus across the field.

"……might I suggest you teleport her now?", he snarls. "Unless you think you are fast enough to dodge a nuclear explosion at ground zero."

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 1:54pm

The blast irritates Kidd, but for what she's doing - whatever that might be - seeing isn't a big deal. The energy is still flaring wildly, looking like it could blow and scatter Nadia far at any minute, never mind the destruction it'll do the surrounding area.

"Friends? Is that supposed to be a joke?"

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Marisol "Solidity" Morales on Jan 8, 2007, 1:55pm

A maniacal grin appeared on Prime's face. This was her chance. If she did it, her ineffectuality would become irrelevant. If she was the one that finished it, the others would SEE how skilled and strong she was. No one could blame her for anything if she was the hero…

She flew off. She didn't bother paying attention to how fast she was, all that mattered was that she did it. A few tendrils of energy blew about her - she dodged them, and reached the field. It was inconsistent and flickering wildly. She could feel the pressure in the air. She couldn't find anything visual to support it, but she had the impression that Kidd was charging up for something…

She headed for a hole, and simply flew through. She was sure that she hadn't touched the wall of light, but it still hurt for some reason. The air was hotter, so hot that it actually hurt. Every breath she took felt horrible. The pressure was much higher… She headed for Gammadrop. It was a snail's pace compared to her usual speed, but it was still enough to dance behind the flowing figure.

She aimed for the back of his head very, very carefully. She supposed Ixnay could be right - knocking her out could end disasterously. It could cause a wild backlash and release all the gamma energy she still had. That would probably lead to a small nuclear holocaust… but by then, she'd be dead and it wouldn't matter. She had to take a chance…

She threw the punch.

"A joke? What do you mean? Of course it's not a joke! You're supposed to be our friend!" I responded, frantic, whilst firing a concussive light blast at her.

«She can't absorb light, right?»

Sephula

Feeling pretty useless, Sephula figured that his best move right now was to try and fatigue their opponent. He tried to dizzy her and throw off her concentration by mixing nerve signals.

Erebus sighs, sinking his face into one of his palms. He hated it when others were right. Of course, he could always shift himself into the Darkforce and leave the others to rot… but he wasn't nearly ready for the Hellions to be over. As Prime struck Kidd from behind, Battle Princess Spectrum's shadow leaves the ground and erects itself in front of her - in the general shape of a stone tablet but being composed of a gateway between dimensions.

«Go, one-two punch!»

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy
Post by Last Hero on Jan 8, 2007, 2:04pm

Nicolette's attack doesn't her out; there seems to be some sort of field just above her skin, made to protect against just that sort of attack. It's weak, but it's enough to keep her from going unconscious.

Still, Kidd gets brought to her knees, and Sephula's attack makes her stay there. The raging energy reaction subsides and Kidd loses control of Nadia; her energy form goes flying away. Now that Star's light blast as some real power to it, Kidd's field absorbs it, and it helps give a bit of her pep back…enough to blast Nicolette away with a fairly decent blast at close range. "Bitch!"

For all the rage, though, it's not looking good for Kidd now. She's outnumbered, and now that Nadia's seperated from her, the bulk of her power's seperated…

Freedom… Not taking the chance of getting stuck in Kidd's control again, Nadia is immediately out of there, intending to get rid of the energy outside of the atmosphere before returning.

"Ah, ah, little one. You should have left me to my cotton candy."

The gateway stutters for a moment before enlarging and stretching out towards Kidd, seemingly of its own accord.

Blind once again proves what a little cleverness will do for you; Kidd's sense of direction is messed up, and she stumbles right into the damn thing. Screams can be heard from inside; the group can't see what's happening to her inside, but it's not pleasant…Kidd starts to worm her way out, though, shivering and gasping the whole way…

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy

Oh, God…

Nicolette dropped to the ground abruptly. She couldn't really find a way to describe it… She had gotten hurt a lot during the last few days, but then what was THIS? She looked down: she was bleeding. The blood just kept streaming out of her stomach… She supposed she was surprised a blast like that even caused blood. It should have cauterized the wound, or… something.

She was just a few feet away from Gammadrop. Through her legs, she could see the black pit. Her mind couldn't exactly form the words, but she suddenly had the strong feeling that she should push Kidd in it. The thought seemed preposterous, as she wasn't even sure she could stand up, and definitely wasn't strong enough to hit Gammadrop that far…

But she didn't surrender, right? She jumped at Kidd's foot and tried to push her over. Her movement left a strange trail of blood…

This is complicated. There has to be a way to stop her, but her powers are all over the board, and obviously inter-related. I guess…

I've never really tried this before, but I know a little about gamma energy. I'm going to try to VERY SLOWLY cancel her body's ability to hold it. It should shoot right through most people like an X-ray in small quantities, and that's the trick. I've never MINIMIZED someone's powers, at least not in a way that requires surgical precision, but it's the only thing I really have left. I cross my fingers and try to get cover before realizing that probably won't help at all.

Make that canceling the sum total of being able to hold gamma energy if she's going into the DFD.

There was blood running out of her mouth now. The thought filled her with dread. She suddenly realized that she probably looked completely indignant right now. On all fours on the ground, bleeding heavily, her costume ruined? It was a horrible thought…

She blacked out.

After Nico launches Kidd back into the portal it begins to recede. Folding in on itself, in a moment its as if it was never there in the first place. Erebus walks up beside Prime. "I hope she has fun."

Re: Mission 2 Part 2 - Common Enemy

Ixnay's cancel isn't nearly as useless as he think; they'd have to get her out of the Darkforce eventually, and there would still be the problem of her energy then. As it now, he's causing her to expel the energy safely within the Darkforce dimension; the group can see little spurts of light from inside the portal, but none of it's getting out.

Nicolette really good gotten hurt a lot during the last few days…
Gammadrop had beaten her up. Wildfire had bombed her. Even Dusk had gotten hits in… She'd shrugged it all off with light "It'll heal"-s, but it had taken it's toll.

And now, she had just been choked into unconsciousness. All in all, could she really blame herself for how all this went? No… No, she couldn't. She clearly wasn't in her best shape. It was to be expected, really. Everything was all right…

Nicolette woke up. The first thing she spotted was Erebus figure a meters off. It was simply so dark, your eyes moved towards it on their own.
"See, you can be a team player," she said to him wheezily.

Nicolette was already scrambling to her feet. She was feeling a bit woozy…
"Of course I'm all right," she said with a wry smile, "Thanks for the worry!" Her voice was an ideal of relaxed pleasantries, but she wasn't exactly truthful - a lot of her still hurt and she felt like she MIGHT fall over soon. But she looked strong and healthy, and that was what mattered. She ran her fingers over her stomach, where her wound had been. The contact sent her a slight jolt of pain.

"And you…" She turned towards Sephula, looking him directly in the eye boldly, "Thanks a lot for that."

She wiped away the blood still near her mouth with the back of her hand. Shit, her costume was ruined… Looking like she didn't care, she turned towards Erebus again.
"That's a strange thing to say, because we somehow BEAT Gammadrop through an act of teamwork. That means we won, by the way." Her eyes flickered to Kidd.

Rogue slaps him in the back of head, quickly moving her hand back to hold Nadia. "No, this the part where we sort out this mess, we go home and we have a talk about you getting us into all this trouble!"

I run over to Nicolette and take her hand. "Come with me! What reason do we have to stay there?"

Wreck glances up at Chi. Then back down.

"…..guess what I found?", he says, his voice sounding more than a little like someone talking in their sleep.

He reaches into the rubble, producing a large staff with a black skull on the top.

"I think it followed me here."

Wreck giggles awfully.

“When did this become a bickering match? Do any of us really want or need this right now?” Kelly asked, flying inbetween the two groups, obviously distressed by this turn of events.

Nicolette looked at Meghan in surprise. This just about destroyed the moral superiority she had tried tried to build up for them. It was an all-around disappointment.

"Just why do you want ME to come with me so badly?" she asked coldly, "I think it's time you explain that neatly." She wasn't smiling anymore.

Rogue looks like she's about ready to shot a first through Ixnay's head, but she lets it go. It would seem the only thing keeping her back is Nadia…

Zephyr finally returns with Dillan, the final addition to the pile. "Don't seriously tell me we're offering these guys membership. She's a thief." She points Dusk's way. "He's crazy." That would be Blind. "He's crazier." Erebus, of course. "She likes to lick people." Nicolette, no surprise. "And that's just the tip."

Nicolette stared at her in bewilderment for a few seconds. She didn't spare a glance at the others. The next part would be crucial…

"Go with the New Mutants," she said quietly, "If that's what you want…"

"Meghan, isn't it?" Rogue turns to Dusk, surprised by the sudden change. "Look. We're not trying to force you here; if you need time to think about it, think about it. The door's always open."

Rogue doesn't understand a word Kidd's saying, but she gets the gist. She picks her up, too, holding her along with Nadia. "She's coming with us." It's not a suggestion, it's a statement.

Now that Prime's in Rogue's face, my need to be there has suddenly evaporated. In a lot of ways, I really wouldn't mind if Rogue rearranged her petulant little face. And I've already sort of made my show of "I actually care about Kidd" which couldn't be further from reality…I sort of hoped that the exploding gamma energy had taken her out. Oh well, can't win them all.

Let's see…where's a place I can wander off to while still managing to retain some dignity/Hellfire superiority? There's two New Mutants off to the side, including mallet boy. Seems like they're sort of roughed up. I can probably handle them, in case. So I walk over.

"Obviously, polo's not your forte," I say to mallet boy. The other guy's got some kind of weird glowing skull thing, which I admit is somewhat creepy. Not that I'm going to admit that. "So, was there a sale at Hot Topic or something?"

"Ugh." This was going absolutely nowhere. He did look at Kidd briefly but it was more of a glance and he was soon looking at Kelly again. "The behaviour you are currently watching her exhibit is more due to the fact that she clearly was not built to weather the Darkforce Dimension than anything else. She seemed rather in charge of her faculties to me when she was manhandling the lot of you." He shrugs. "All of that aside, Kidd was the one to approach Rogue. Not the other way around. Whose will are you fighting for, here?"

Upon first glance, Chi was standing very still. Upon closer inspection, he was shuddering slightly as a glow enveloped him.

Wreck still sits, holding the staff up which now glows with a fervent light. He looks over to Ixnay…..and his expression suddenly twists.

"……you.'

His eyes begin to glow with the same pulse as the skull.

"YOU!"

The field around Chi falls. It seems to absorb itself into the staff, as Wreck stares at Ixnay with an expression of pure, insane hatred.

And then just as quickly, his face falls. Like a man just awakened.

"…..what?"

Looking at the staff, he wills it to dissolve in his grasp. As soon as it does, Wreck's eyes roll back and he falls to the ground.

[Even without her powers, Rogue is still fairly strong - it's probably a pain for her to carry them both, now, but she can manage. I've always imagined Nadia as being rather small, and I believe Kidd - in her nonmutated form - is, too. ]

"It ain't up for debate." Rogue notices the drop in her powers and looks over to Ixnay, miffed. She'll definitely have to remember him the next time they wind up fighting… "If you want to argue, I can call Professor X and the other X-Men, and you can have it out with them. If not, shut it." The last part just kind of slipped out. Time to do damage control.

"Well, anyway, if there's no one sane here worth talking to, I suppose I'll just retire from the field for the day. Places to go, people to see."
