Generation X Unlimited #7

«Probably needs some revision. Ah well. Here's the big reveal.»

Generation X Unlimited #7:

Cover: Marcus fading away into the darkness. He looks calm, his eyes staring blankly at the reader.

Title: The Infinite Deaths of Marcus Sun.

It started with Phineas Bogg, the time travelling pirate who recruited them to fix a timestream. He was surprised he didn’t realize it before actually. Way back, when they were captured by Apocalypse, he asked Lex’s daughter from the future whether he was there. She said she didn’t know him at all. Of course that could’ve been easily explained by him dying before Alexia grew up, or him leaving the team. Then later when they managed to convince Dillon to take them into the future, nobody knew him. Both Lex and Damien. It was slightly disturbing, but he shrugged it off with reasons similar to the last one.

However during the that adventure he saw something. Sara was down, an alternate reality Dillon was desperately trying to commit suicide. Marcus had to stay behind watching his friends try to save him, powerless in a rather literal sense. During that time in all the chaos and all the confusion he saw something in the disappearing time stream, visions.

Visions of the past. How it all could’ve gone. If Brent had lived, if he hadn’t awakened his mutant powers, if he ran away instead of joining the school. Should haves, could haves, would haves.

Visions of the present. Dillon committing suicide, Sara getting hit, his friends desperately trying to save him. Options, realities, possibilities, what they could’ve done, what they would’ve done. Everything occurring at once.

Vision of a future. There was only one vision. One possibility. He saw three giants silhouetted against the flames, he saw New York blowing up, he saw a purple haired lady leading an army what seemed to be a futuristic version of the SHIELD Heli-Carrier into battle. He saw them all destroyed.

And he saw himself, fading, disappearing. In his place there was nothing, no memory, no identity, no signs of former life.

He became nothing.

Marcus pushed these visions from his mind, caring more for the immediate. Sara got hurt, she needed medical help and they had to save Dillon. There wasn’t any time for things like this.

__________

He just got back from a meeting with Tabitha Smith, a rather crude person, but there was other things on his mind. A conversation with Dillon just confirmed his fears. In the alternate time line Dillon travelled too more likely than not, he didn’t exist. Hell it could be that he didn’t exist in all other timelines. His theory was that at some point in time, something caused him to disappear in all those alternate timelines and of course there was the giants. He’d wondered if he should tell anybody about this. But he honestly didn’t know what to make of it. But right now, he was just tired.

__________

It was the afternoon. The rest of the Generation X were away on a mission, he decided not to go this time. With his powers weakened he’d be a liability at best. So here he was back in the base, worrying on what kind of danger they could be in. After all Dr. Doom seemed to be involved.

Marcus visited Sara again, she looked like she was just sleeping. He was worried about her too. The Doctors said she had to be transferred to Muir Island if she didn’t wake up in a week. After staying silent

“I told you not to let yourself get hurt…”

He sighed. Sara really did cause him to stress out sometimes. A whole lot of drama. But, he still liked her. He still couldn’t stop thinking of her. She was an amazing person. Exciting, Fun, sometimes she could get a little overwhelming, but he didn’t care.

“I supposed you’d want to be the first to know this. That I might cease to exist in the future, crazy huh?”

If she could hear him, she’d probably over-react, get worried. But then again, that’s probably what he’ll do if Sara or any of his friends were in the situation he’s in.

“I always do get myself into trouble huh? Sara, I’ll try to keep safe this time. Just wake up, please.”

He stayed there for another ten minutes, before kissing her in the forehead and leaving.

“I’ll be back later.”

The rest of his team was still in Jamaica. He was still rather stressed, so he decided to take the ferry to town in order to relax a bit. Besides he still needed new clothes. He did some shopping, ate lunch, wondered when his friends will be back home. He then decided to take a walk.

He didn’t know exactly when he managed to notice it or how. Mr. Logan would’ve said it was instinct, something you have to learn to trust at times. He had to trust how he was feeling, and right now he felt like he was being followed.

It took a while for the gravity of the situation to hit him. It could be Black Air, it could be some person who had a grudge against Excalibur or the Gen X, it could be anything really, when you’re in the super-hero business you tend to make a lot of enemies. Someone was following him, he was sure of it, he was also sure that they wouldn’t let him get back to the compound. He started walking towards the transit area, hoping that his body was paying tricks on him, or that his followers will let him get back to safety. He kept his pace even, watching to see if someone was following him. He didn’t see anything. Finally he got to the transit area and walked through.

Maybe I’m just being paranoid. If someone wanted to fight me or something, they wouldn’t do it in a public place. The transit is too crowded at this time of the day.

When he walked through he didn’t find himself in the busy transit like he expected. There were empty boxes, machinery, pipes everywhere, and he was alone. He was in an abandoned warehouse.

“Shit.”

At that moment he felt something hit him in the back, something akin to a car. He barrelled over, hitting the floor with a crunch. He started to get up desperately trying to get himself re-oriented, when he felt something wrapping around his arms and legs, hoisting into the air, constricting him. It was getting difficult to breath. From what he could tell, he was being held by a glowing construct. He could see a lady in a black spandex covering her whole body walking towards him.

“So this is the one. He looks pathetic.”

He struggled to talk.

“Path… Thetic? Lady… I… beat… the Juggernaut.”

A blast of plasma flew across and seared the Woman’s face. She shrieked and the construct holding him disappeared, and he fell limp into the ground, trying to regain his breath. However before he could, he felt someone kick him in the ribs. He landed flat on his back this time, he tasted blood. His rib was broken, it hurt to breath. He saw another person dressed in the same black spandex, a man this time.

Brilliant time for my powers to go wonky on me.

He had to get away, he couldn’t used plasma, he couldn’t fight. His heart beat faster and he rolled over and started crawling as fast as he could, maybe if he brought enough time to ready another plasma burst, mayber if he hid somewhe-

He felt a concussive blast hit his back.

“You!”

Another blast.

“Hurt!”

Another blast.

“My!”

Another blast.

“Wife!”

Marcus’ body fell limp on the ground as the man in the spandex suit picked him up, by the scruff of the neck.

“If you weren’t our sacrifice I would’ve killed you right here.”

Marcus sent a kick into his stomach. Adrenaline numbing his pain. The man dropped him and started to double over and Marcus used his palm to hit him across the jaw, flooring him for the moment.

The next thing he saw was a mace swinging towards him. He managed to duck down and dodge this time. The man who was swung it at him, was wearing a strange pilot uniform, no time to worry about that now. He swung his foot at his, using the momentum to trip him. Now he was on the ground too, but not for long. He started to run off. Trying to get away from his pursuers.

Before he got shot in the kneecap.

Marcus fell to the ground. Clutching onto his knee, blood dripping on the floor. He screamed, until he was kicked across the jaw.

“Heard the kneecap is a very painful place to get shot, so is that right?”

Marcus glared up at the person who addressed him. He was black, he was also wearing a white business suit, like those old mob movies. Beside him was a woman dressed in a similar fashion, holding a smoking gun. He glared at them, eyes watery, teeth gritted.

The man crouched down in front of him.

“Guess we’ll have to patch you up now. After all we don’t want you to die before we want you to die.”

Marcus sent a fist flying as it connected with the man’s nose, he heard it break, good. However before he could do anything else, he felt something levitate him into the air.

“BONDAGE.”

Rainbow bands of rope begin to wrap around him, leaving him immobile and powerless on the ground. His particles stopped coming out.

“Honey are you all right?”
“Little Oriental fucker broke my nose.”

He was at his limits, he felt another presence in his mind trying to make him fall unconscious, he was fighting it, but he wouldn’t last long. When everyone comes back, they’ll just find him gone without a trace, just disappeared.

Become nothing.

He saw the entire group together for the first time. It was an odd assemble. Wizards, Mob bosses, scientists, the only thing that they seemed to have in common were that they were in husband wife duos. It cracked him up, he didn’t know why. Considering he might not have long to live.

“Who are you people?”

He started blacking out, but before he did, he heard something.

“The Pride…”

Holy hell, you know, I actually remember something about Marcus being eaten by the Gibborim or something, like a while back… I dismissed it, though.

Gah. Rites of Thunder. That should've brought it back again.
