Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 30, 2007, 12:12pm

Generation X is on the offensive.

After being attacked by the powerful mutant vampire Natalya, Generation X decides to hit her before she can hit them, tracking her down to a secluded area in Russia. They come expecting a fight, but what waits for them is a completely different experience, one that will force them to make a grave choice…

And it's not the only choice to be made. The rest of the team waits at the Aquatic Compound, protecting Nephy from Natalya's invasion…but what if Nephy doesn't want to be protected in the first place?

Generation X is in for one of their most dramatic conflicts yet, and while they may come out of it without a scratch on their bodies, mentally they'll never be the same. Guaranteed.

Shipping…next Sunday, at 10:00 PM!

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…

Generation X is in hot pursuit.

Though Claire was a bit dazed at first from Natalya's bite - and still is; she had to stay back at the compound and recover - she did manage to get some work done. Natalya is a magical being. As such, she has certain magical properties about her, which Claire tracked.

And that's why the jet is heading across the ocean right now.

"All right lads and lasses, here's the deal." Sean sits back in his seat as the autopilot heads on. "We'll be landing on the outskirts of a village in Svalbard - yes, Svalbard, should bring back memories. The climate is relatively mild there this time of years, so you shouldn't have too many problems with the coats. Anyway, it'll be fairly cloudy there even though it's, so I can't say if you'll be having trouble. Be ready. Get in, neutralize Natalya, get out."

He nods to Marcus. "I'll stay here and keep watch on Nephy. I'm leaving the rest to you."

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…

Joe gives Nephy a worried look, and begins to loosen up his joints.

"Before moving Nathaniel I want to ask you something. How well do you think your weapons will effect Natalya? They do hurt magical beings right?"

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…
Post by Sir Nathaniel/Fang on Sept 2, 2007, 9:04pm

Nathaniel sits his chair thinking about Claire wishing he was still there, but feeling the need to help Lady Nephy stop this vampire. Hopefully she will be feeling better when we get back. "What? Oh, yes. Should bypass her magical defenses easily. Provided it can get close enough to be used."

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…
Post by Joshua/Darya/Kara/Marcus on Sept 2, 2007, 9:07pm

"That's good."

Still rather worried himself, taking quick glances at Nephy at times.

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…
Post by Marisol Morales on Sept 2, 2007, 9:08pm

Sean looks over his seat to Lex. "Alexander, don't kill Natalya unless it's absolutely necessary. She's still a living being - technically - and we're not executioners. I understand your rage, but keep it in."

The jet is nearing its target now - they can't see the actual village, but there's a spot big enough for the jet to land, and a path leading up the mountainside near there there.

"As far as Claire could learn, the vampires are similar to most - they burst in flame during the day, they need blood to survive and are incapable of producing their own…pretty much everything you've heard about. She also said, though, that a powerful enough one like Natalya might be able to work around those weaknesses."

The jet sets down and opens up, immediately assaulting the group with a blast of cold air from the mountains. "The village should be right down that path. Remember, tread carefully, and if things get too hectic, don't hesitate to retreat."

Upon getting closer, the group gets a better look at the woman - she's young, a few years older than them, with very neat, cropped hair and thin glasses.

The woman extends her hand, and a shield of white energy emanates from it, repelling Orchestra right back.

"I'm sorry for that." She dissipates the energy. "That's my Asgard - perfect shield. It counters any attack with an equal force, so, please, don't try that again. It'll only hurt you."

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…
Post by Sir Nathaniel/Fang on Sept 2, 2007, 9:52pm

Nathaniel keeps Marcus sword hidden as best he can. It is an assassin's bluff, but with so much more weight then his normal sword he will need the first few swings to get use to it, if it comes to that. This is probably still plan b, but at least it is a safe plan dispite the fact he is puting faith in chance. How much did she gleam from us when she was in our base? Can Orchestra shadow cast the blades properties? Perhaps we will find out. Nathaniel does his best to keep up with the rest of the group.

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…

She cocks her eyebrow. "Whore…of…whatnow? I'm not a vampire, if that's what you're getting at. I'm a mutant." She opens her mouth. Sure enough, it's a regular set…well, she has braces, but other than that it's normal.

"And yes, I'll take you to see her. This way, please." She start to head down the path, going into the mountain.

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…

"We're here, Lex."

The path opens up and the group sees the village - or, at least, barely sees it. Suddenly, the sky became a lot darker, as if it was instant night. Orchestra should be able to sense the dark energy above, draining away the light.

Otherwise, the village looks like…a village. A bunch of houses, not too advanced, kind of run-down. No sign of anyone out, though.

Valerie heads down the steps leading to the village square, shaking her head. "Oh, great, you've scared them off."

"Everyone, listen to me and listen to me well. I'm aware that…mistakes have been made on both sides. Here is what I propose." She points to the trail. "Go down this path about a mile, and you will find another village. A human village. These people live in harmony with mine, and they'll provide you lodging. Talk. Deliberate. Calm yourselves. You have a day to do this. During this time, I will repair whatever damage you've done to my village. In twenty-four hours, I will meet you all at the inn, and we will make an end to this. Adam puts his arms around her, even though it feels very uncomfortable. He's so used to the usual, pointless hugs, that the ones that actually mean something are always very difficult for him. He'll just sit and quietly hug her for as long as she likes.

There's a bug crawling up his shorts. What awful timing…

"Valerie, come on, we have work to do. Adam…" She looks back. "Your friends will be staying at a nearby village tomorrow. I'll meet with them tomorrow night. You can go with them or stay with Joe and Lisa…it makes no difference to me."

She heads down the path and Lisa goes after her, staring at Adam as she goes.

He goes with the outcasts.

"It's a simple symbiotic relationship. This region is plagued with bandits, but they don't dare mess with this village because its under my protection. In exchange for that protection, the villagers all donate their blood every three days, storing it and giving it to us."

She turns back in her chair as Mary comes back, handing food out to the group - seems to be sliced pork. Quite tasty. "Still, it has some merit. I will try to talk with the knights when they come. I've lived for centuries and mastered arts you cannot even begin to fathom. I was trading spells with the past Sorcerer Supreme when you were infants. Do not think you're on my level."

Valerie steps up before things get out of hand, interrupting with a cough. "Lisa, you're abilities advance you along the vampiric line - I believe, in daytime, you'll only experience a drop in power, probably to your normal levels, instead of outright dying. Still, if you wish, I think you can suppress your vamipiric nature by manipulating your bloodstream - you're young enough in the transformation that you should be able to tell the difference between your vampire and natural blood. If you focus everyday on keep the vampire blood away from your heart, you should revert to normal, though the vampire blood will never truly leave you…again, it's all your choice. And it will be a painful experience, either way."

Having Natalya attack Lex does not seem like a good idea to him. Sure Lex won't be able to harm her, but he did do a number on her people. And if Lex is removed from Nephy's protection, if Natalya gets angry enough…

"I made a rash decision in harming Lex's child. While I don't believe that condones his actions, I can't ignore my part in that. In a way, my family's blood lies on my hands, as well. So I must take this blame. And I must keep from soiling my hands further, because I honestly don't think I have the restraint to attack Alexander and not kill him. Not now. I won't separate a father from his child. I've seen that happen enough in the past two days to last a lifetime."

"I'm taking my leave now - we're holding a funeral tonight, and I can't be late. Marcus, Nathaniel, Adam, Joe…you're welcome in my refuge at any time. To the rest of you…well, I doubt you would want to come, anyway. Lisa, I'll contact you when I need you."

Re: Generation X #22 - In the Darkness…

Back at the village…

It's an all-too familiar stench. Burnt flesh.

I smell it as Valerie and I walk up the path to the village, and that walk becomes a run as we get closer and closer. By the time we're close enough to see the burning lights, it's already too late - the entire village is in flames. Everything we built is smoldering, falling the ground, rotting.

And the people…

"Where…" Valerie runs ahead of me, getting as close to the flames as she can before the heat beats her away. "What happened here?" She brings up Asgard, shielding herself. "We weren't gone that long, the hunters couldn't have-"

"It wasn't hunters." I can feel that presence, that foul stench winding its way towards me. Stronger than burnt flesh. More evasive. It's the sort of smell that calls to me and only me, the familiar smell of my own blood, strong and boiling in the light of the full moon. "I know you're here. Show yourself."

And she does. A house near us erupts into flame, and she walks out of the explosion in a calm gait, strutting towards us. Clad in black. A whip at her side. A smile on her face.

The Black Queen. Selene. "Natalya…it's been a while."

"Not nearly long enough." I stand between Selene and Valerie as the air begins to crackle, radiating from my magic, a black mist rising all about me. "I don't know how you managed to get here, Mother. But I do know how you're leaving."

TO BE CONTINUED…
