Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by havok3595 on Feb 14, 2008, 9:59pm

Copypasta briefing followed by a quick note.

Section title: Anarchy in the UK
Artist: Frank Quitely

United Kingdom

A large pro-registration demonstration is planned for Edinburgh, Scotland: the site of Proteus' rampage several years ago. A march will be held tracing his path of destruction through the city to the point that he ultimately met his end, at the castle. A candlelight vigil and other events are planned around this.

On the other side of the coin, Moira Mactaggert was originally supposed to appear to decry Proteus' activities, but her connections to both Xavier and Proteus himself were brought into question. Ultimately, she stated that her intention for appearing was to present both sides of the mutant situation, mentioning the X-Men's role in saving the city as well as the deeds of Proteus. From this, she intended to turn the argument against registration, but was disinvited from the proceedings.

Rumor has it that her longtime lover, the mutant known as Banshee, as well as some other residents of Muir Isle Research Facility intend to spearhead a peaceful counterprotest in the city. Tensions seem to be riding rather high, though, and the possibility of a scuffle is definitely present. The team is to try to prevent that from happening, and also to recruit any UK mutants they encounter. They're advised to be very cautious about doing this around Banshee himself, though.

And so Aniela, Allen, and Pester find themselves in the land of haggis when they were expecting fish and chips. They're dropped off close to a bus route into Edinburgh and can already see a massive amount of people coming to the city to take place in the demonstrations. A distressing amount of people. The roads are practically clogged.

[Yay, Quietly.]

I think I'm just a little terrified.

It's natural. I think. If it isn't, it should be. I can still see it, pretty much all of the time. Hunkering pile of metal. Cold, lifeless eyes. But it had malice. A sadistic glint in those lifeless eyes.

I don't know if that's possible. I don't think it is… but I saw it. Down to something… its face… the bloody robot was sneering. It knew what it was doing. And it did it with hate in its cybernetic mind, and a bloody song in its non-existent heart.

Still see it. Still see the fire. And I'm still scared. My first mission… it's meant to be simple. Relatively speaking. Politics and that crap. But things never go off without a hitch… all of that talk is what led to the attack in the first place…. Lord keep me today.

"Yeah, we're loved," I muse sardonically out loud. "Look at how many people have lined up to argue just how and why we should be strung up."

"Relax. Don't get daunted. We're here to keep the peace, not to fight. In all likelihood, nobody will get hurt here."

Pester believes what he's spouting. He really does. But that doesn't stop him from being just as mortified of this situation as the girl he's talking to.

"See if you can keep an eye on Moira McTaggert, or Banshee. You should recognize them from the files (Hav, that seem okay?). Plus, nobody knows we're mutants. We don't have to start trouble here."

And who's the weird guy?

Allen looks around not really paying attention.

So this dump was where I was born… Or at least closer to. Old Witch never told me where I came from, other then round Britain or some crap like that. Feh, doesn't seem very impressive.

"Yeah, well let's hope you're right, Ford." Because I sure as hell don't believe it. Nice thought, though - I don't want to open fire in a massive crowd. I do glance around a bit for either Banshee or Mactaggert, though.

«Of course you can know what Moira and Banshee look like.»

A public bus does eventually pull up if people want to board it. Many people on the bus seem to have flowers, or pictures of really homely people, including one of a police officer, made into signs with slogans like "Never again" and "Remember Ferdie Duncan" and such.

"It's a sodding Ghost of the Robot gig out here…" I nod at the bus - pretty sure that's where we're headed. "So we're getting that, yeah?" Probably the only time this month I've worn something other than a bodysuit of any kind. Didn't think it'd be well appreciated here.

But I'm very, very lazy.

"Should have brought bikes, that bus is going to be packed. Guess we should hop on?"

"Let's just get on the bus."

He starts walking towards it.

"Better then standing around here all day."

"We could do that walking thing, like you said. You're probably right; look at the state of this bloody place." I shuffle off, starting towards where the demonstration's meant to be held, narrowly avoiding bumping into some gormless git.

I shrug when Rufus heads for the bus. "Or… the bus, I guess."

Pester tries to use telepathy to get a general idea of what everyone is thinking.

But he doesn't have telepathy. So he just gets on the damn bus.

"Whoa, look at Mister New Guy, Mister Decisive. Good for you."

Huzzah, sarcasm!

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)

A young girl (well, youngish…she's about 14) looks up at the new people on the bus. "Did you loose someone to Proteus too? He possessed my dad…you should have seen what was left for the funeral…it was…"

Her mother, a matronly woman, shushes her. "Sorry, lads, just the memories have been tough on her with all this happening. I'm sure you know. It's why we're all here, isn't it?"

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by star on Feb 14, 2008, 10:27pm

"Uh… yeah. Proteus. Evil bugger." I nod slowly, not really sure what to say here. I mean, Christ's sake, I could rant on about it being a one off, not being representative of mutants as a whole or whatever other damned thing I can say, but it doesn't quite seem appropriate when talking to two people who've suffered loss because of the sod.

Post by noodles on Feb 14, 2008, 10:30pm

"Yeah, that's why we're here."

Because technically, it is. Even if it's not.

Pester takes a look out the window. He uses the height of the bus to better keep an eye on the crowd.

By a robot. That explains quite a bit.

Not having had a particularly gory childhood, and not wanting to say "Hey, mutants aren't all evil bastards, you woman!" Pester keeps his mouth shut. He does, however, continue to pay attention to the situation.

That's a damn lie. My father was a hush operative, first in the Chinese army, then in the British one when he defected. Then he went freelance.

"And this robot — this American made, human made robot — just ripped them to little bloody pieces anyway." I tell it all very levelly and calmly; I've gone to great bloody lengths to estrange myself from that incident. To estrange myself from a lot of things, actually.

The entire bus seems to be silent and stuck in time for a moment. Everyone is agape.

The bus driver looks around nervously. Everyone else is staring.

"Okay, then," says the bus driver. "We're into town. It's a bloody parking lot already, so I'm stopping this right here and going to get pissed."

And he does.

The area is a relatively quaint downtown area. There's a pet store, some other small stores, and a few bars. But most notably is a mass of people, probably in the hundreds, lighting candles and holding signs. Actually, it's hard to get a good estimate because of how packed the area is. Somehow, the three Generation M members seem to have a little room to move, which no one else seems to have.

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)

Get pissed. Heh. Not a bad plan.

"Think maybe I said a little too much?" I hop off of the bus. Honestly, I couldn't give a damn if I did or not. Woman needed setting straight. And at least we get to breathe as a result, unlike the rest of these poor sods.

As Pester uncomfortably makes his way down the aisle, he has all the occupants of the bus hear the Bruce Banner: Lonely Man song, from the old Incredible Hulk TV show. He may as well giggle to himself as he struggles to keep from screaming.

"Let's get to the top of the pack. Up there, where all the people are gathered."

Pester tries to make his way up there.

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by havok3595 on Feb 14, 2008, 11:01pm

On the streets of Edinburgh, it's a mostly solemn occasion. Someone starts speaking into a megaphone, but it's almost impossible to decipher because the person clearly doesn't know what they're doing. You can skim enough to know that this was the place that Proteus first started getting really insane and melting buildings and such, and that many were killed, and something about following his path, and names, and such. But it's really hard to pay attention.

Pester's translator says: "Now translating. Best language fit: Hausa. This is a very nice bed. Please to have a sandwich."

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by doodleboy on Feb 14, 2008, 11:03pm

"Bloody guy is speaking in tongues isn't he?"

Things are so much simpler when he has something to hit, right now, he's just trailing behind, acting like some kind of bodyguard for the other two. He looks around for any potential danger, might as well do something while striving off boredom.

Post by havok3595 on Feb 14, 2008, 11:07pm

Assuming everyone is following Pester towards the front, the noise from the megaphone starts to get really irritating. After a while, they've been distanced from the bus people, and are back in a press of people. They're handed candles sometime during this, and people are starting to light their candles off each other. It might not seem the smartest idea in this mass of people, but they're doing it anyway.

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by noodles on Feb 14, 2008, 11:07pm

"You don't need one…"

Bleh.

Well, the translator said it was a real language. Since they're just standing around, Pester figures he might as well do the right thing. Worst case scenario, the team gets something nice to eat. He'll just try and get reimbursed from the staff back home.

"I'm getting a few sandwiches, tell me what you want."

From where he is, he looks to see if the nearby deli is open.

"Oh, thanks."

Pester takes the candle, but just stuff it in his pocket. He was never one for gestures.

"Subway, chicken breast. And trust me, I need one." I turn around, and almost get one of those bloody candles thrust into my face when someone's trying to palm one off to me. A lit one, at that. I almost lose my cool. Almost.

"Get that damn thing away from me." Okay, maybe I lose my cool a little. I stagger back from the thing, too; getting as much distance from it while trying to not move too much closer to any of the other ones - easier said than done. "I mean… no thanks. Sorry. Issues with fire. Pretty big issues."

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by noodles on Feb 14, 2008, 11:14pm

Eh, fuck it. One of those people on line is probably getting him a sandwich. IF he does indeed want one.

Pester very carefully puts a hand on Analla's shoulder, and plays her some soothing melodies to calm her down a bit.

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by havok3595 on Feb 14, 2008, 11:14pm

The megaphone is passed to someone who seems to actually be able to use it.

"Right then. And so we march to follow the trail of Proteus through the town."

And everyone starts moving, sadly even forcing Pester out of the restaurant line. In fact, the entire restuarant line seems annoyed by this turn of events, but are going along with it.

Post by doodleboy on Feb 14, 2008, 11:15pm

Allen gets tired of being handed candles so he gives anybody who tries to an "I'll break you" stare.

After a while and many depressing stops where the megaphone comes back on talking about collateral damage deaths from Proteus' rampage, the group comes to a rest on the large lawn of Edinburgh castle. It seems to thin out slightly, but it's still packed. The man with the megaphone intones, "And here is where Proteus finally met his end, after claiming fifty seven lives in the city alone. It is time for our scheduled moment of silence and reflection for the deaths of…"

He rattles off names, then everyone goes silent for a minute.

Crowds make him nervous. Especially potentially angry mobs. Really, mobs in general. Especially ones on a death march.

"Say… Uhm… I don't know your name, so I'll have to call you Tall Guy. Try and keep an eye out and see where we're going? So the front of the line doesn't get ambushed, I mean." He says to… The tall guy that is walking with them.

He shuts up when he realizes people are purposely being silent…

Right after the minute if silence has passed, I speak up - raising my voice as much as I can, to try and be heard.

Everyone looks at Aniela as if she just blasphemed in church. The crowd continues to be silent, but then a low pitched sound, like a humming, is heard, starting in the middle distance. Then, they see him.

Banshee.

He's flying towards the castle wall, carrying Moira with him. He comes for a landing, and they both stand there, looking over the crowd, heads bowed and silent for now.

Pester watches his long, long, long, long distance relative (He's Irish).

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by havok3595 on Feb 14, 2008, 11:38pm

After being silent for a moment, Banshee paces slightly on the wall before settling in a particular spot.

"On this spot, ye say, he met his end. On this spot I now stand on, Proteus, a mass murderer, was slain by one of the most innocent people I've ever known. On this spot, this very spot, Colossus, a mutant X-Man, protected the lot of you from his tyrrany! Those streets you walked on today, I walked them years ago, not in memory of Proteus, but in pursuit. And with registration and the blarney that goes with it, we X-Men would not have been able to save you! We would have been stuck filling out paperwork asking to please come help while he continued to devastate the city. We chased him here, an unpopulated area, and we slayed him here, to protect the lot of you. We understand that he killed people…Christ, he damn near killed me, and Storm, and the lot of the X-Men too. But registration wouldn't have solved it. Sure'n it would only have made it worse."

His voice projects clearly due to the sonic powers, and the crowd listens intently. And then it starts to get ugly. Before anything actually starts, it can be felt. There is a general rumbling. And then a rock flies towards Banshee, missing by quite a distance. More follow, but none are hitting him.

Not that I didn't want to throw things similar into their ruddy faces myself…" I think about using Pester's powers to calm the group, but bloody hell - this is Britain. No two people like the same thing. One thing'll make one want to go find some puppies and stroke them, and it'll make the next person want to shoot people.

"Shit."

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by noodles on Feb 14, 2008, 11:45pm

But… He's kind of… Wrong…

Though he doesn't make his thoughts known, Pester fully disagrees with Banshee's speech. But the man is Irish. And with the fire of the Irish loins also comes great passion toward his cause. And this makes him believe a few rocks won't change Banshee's mind.

"Let them see that Banshee won't fight them. Let them throw their rocks. He knows what he's doing… I think. Maybe."

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by havok3595 on Feb 14, 2008, 11:47pm

The crowd is getting very agitated, and throwing larger objects. All of them seem to miss Banshee, improbably. It is starting to get to unbelievable.

Then, as suddenly as he came, he picks up Moira, and flies back into the castle. The crowd is livid, and eventually breaks up to go be obnoxious elsewhere in smaller groups.

Pester had blindly assumed that Banshee was using his sonic powers to make the objects not hit him. But at a point, that started to seem silly.

"They're probably gonna start tearing shit up. I'm thinking two of us hang around out here and keep them from going too apeshit, the other go into the castle and make sure everything's alright in there. Thoughts?"

"You mean those drunk bastards over there?"

He brings out the mace and slams it down in the center of the group, it's loud.

Yeah, they seem to know what they're doing.

"Guys… Try not to hurt anyone?"

They're just drunken soccer hooligans. How much trouble could they be?

Pester runs over to the castle gate, and… Knocks.

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)

People are about to respond to Aniela when the mace comes out, which distracts them. But everyone can see similar things starting to happen nearby. People are loudly disagreeing about whether the people possessed by Proteus had a worse fate than the collateral damage, with some really unflattering things said about some of the hosts. And so on and so forth.

Meanwhile, Pester walks into the castle. For some reason, none of the people outside followed Banshee in. He comes into an open area where Sean Cassidy, Moira, and a small group of others are…having hot chocolate? Well, all except Moira.

"I strongly disagree with this, Sean," she's saying, hands on her hips.

Banshee sighs. "In a way, it's what they deserve, lass."

Pester makes a cockeyed expression that looks something like: o_O

He hides behind a giant pillar, and listens to the conversation.

He does his best to make Banshee hear Moira saying "Gosh and begorra! Tell me again exactly what ye'r doin' again!"

He tries not to overlap it with Moira's actual speech, but since he doesn't have a line of sight, it's tricky.

"Get your asses out of here. Oh and take this."

He tosses one of them the candles he has.

"That isn't a problem."

He puts the mace back and takes a gun out, firing it in the air.

Banshee is about to say something when he takes a long pause, and a thoughtful sip of hot cocoa.

"Whoever ye be, ye best come out now. It's a nice trick, but I control sonic energy. I know when sound's actually happenin'."

Some of the others move to get up, but Banshee waves them back down.

"Not how I was going to do it, but fine…" I draw my gun. Just in case. But please give me an excuse to shoot you, any one of you. A justifiable one. Please.

There's a long moment of silence as Pester weighs his options.

1. Pee.

2. Stay behind the pillar, and hope Banshee forgets to be suspicious.

3. Unsheathe his sword, and go down in a blaze of glory.

4. Come out from behind the pillar.

He comes out from behind the pillar, standing up straight and tall. Like a strong and proud Irishman on his home soil, in the dwelling place of his long lost brothers and sisters.

God, it's fucking cold in this dump.

"Okay, so here's me. Hey."

A silent circle has formed around the two people firing guns. You can see them calculating the odds of getting away with rushing the two Generation M members. One of them speaks up, "They didn't take candles! And that girl was babbling about robots killing muties! They must be muties!"

The group seems to be deeply considering rushing the two of them.

"Ye're a mutant too, then?" asks Banshee. "Have some hot chocolate."

Moira looks about ready to rip out his spleen and eat it. "Sean, whatever's gotten into you? This isn't like you at all! You're supposed to be savin' people!"

"Some people don't want the saving, love," says Banshee, drinking contemplatively.

You're all prancing about acting like completely wankered idiots, threatening to rip into each other - then when someone tells you to stop doing that, you want to rip into them! At least wait until you're actually pissed off your faces before acting like such damn prats!"

Probably not a good idea, mouthing off at the angry crowd, but I'm pissed now. And I don't see any robots, and the fire's far away from me right now, so I'm not scared enough of any possibility to think twice about it.

"Now all of you, shut the fuck up and go home, yeah?! Mother Mary Mayday, act like human bloody beings, all right?!"

Allen calmly puts the gun back.

Then he takes out a mace.

Then he takes out an axe.

"I really don't care for beating the crap out of some villagers. So just scamper off home. Attack and I'll have to defend my companion."

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by noodles on Feb 15, 2008, 12:17am

"Yes, yes I am."

Pester notices that Banshee seems to only be giving out hot chocolate to mutants, and not Moira. While the withholding of hot chocolate is usually not a big deal, this may be bordering on racism. And that's not right, even if it is over petty things. He has, at most, had one conversation in his life with Moira, but she seems passionate about what she's doing.

"Would somebody mind telling me what's going on? I think I deserve to know. Because I'm a mutant. And Irish."

He picks up a cup of hot chocolate, but does not drink. He's hoping Banshee will not question Pester's allegiances too heavily, but there is no way for him to stop him.

He opens his duster.

Gladiuses, daggers, a longsword. Hm… nothing too modern except for his gun.

"I got nuthin, take this and don't hurt yourself now."

He hands her his mace and takes out a flail.

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)

People charge at Allen and Aniela in a group. Sure, they could probably take out a few, but numbers aren't looking favorable right now.

Meanwhile, Banshee looks at Pester appraisingly. "It's like this. They turn to us when they want to be saved, then they turn to us with the blame too. Here, I'm letting them do whatever they damn well please themselves. And I'll shed nary a tear over it."

Moira has picked up a mug of hot chocolate now, and splashes it in Sean's face. "It's not like you to be so cold, Sean! I can't believe you!"

Post by star on Feb 15, 2008, 12:26am

"This should be fun. You up for it, Alaric?" I swing the flail towards the chest of the first person, trying to weave under their reach while I'm at it and ram the next person in the diaphragm.

"Nary a tear?"

Time to go back to the well of morality. He may have left Xavier's school earlier than planned, but Pester still carries around some of the things he was taught there.

"Aren't you good friends with Professor Xavier? He would tell you that if we let this city tear itself apart, that's only going to make mutants even more hated and despised all around the world. Passive aggression never kept anybody safe. Especially not a bunch of drunken Irish."

Sure it's lame, but that's all he can think to say right now. He gives the "Right?!?" look at Moira, hoping for some support.

"Axe didn't make them piss their pants."

He drops the axe and smashes a few with his mace. Relatively lightly.

"Rather fight a dragon. Then again I don't really have much frustrations to take out on these bastards."

"And you can cut into a dragon. Can't mess these buggers up too badly, is the problem." I try and land a hard uppercut on the next person, twisting into it. "Bloody typical! We try to help you gits and you do this! Idiots."

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)

Moira nods at Pester. "Exactly! Saints alive, someone hear has sense."

Banshee looks at Pester for a long moment. Then he looks at Moira. Then back at Pester.

"Charles and I were never what you would call good friends. I was the only of the X-Men at that time who had experience beyond the system. And one thing I learned quick where I grew up…sometimes death is the best teacher. These idiots aren't dying because of mutants. They're dying because they're idiots. And I'm not saving them if they want me to fill out a little form."

Meanwhile, Aniela is killin' people. Still, the press is keeping up. Neither of them is able to swing as fully as they'd like. It's not looking good.

Prancing ponces. Pranchi- damn it." I pull back slightly, drawing my gun and levelling it at the nearest person's upper thigh.

"My point is, this isn't going anywhere." I shift my tone slightly so this bloody lot of fools know I'm talking to them now. "Stop. Or I'm going to start shooting, and that won't be pretty for anyone. I'm not going to take pounds from you lot of poofs, just for trying to help you."

This could get ugly.

He looks at Moira.

[Thought so. I was just checking.]

"Woof." I balance out slightly when we land - shaky. Very, very shaky. Think I'm going to hurl. Think I'm going to… no, no. I'm okay. "At least you warned me."

One of the rocks hit me in the stomach, and then I do hurl.

Banshee looks at Pester again.

"Actually, I'm not bitter at all. Or an X-Man."

His voice has taken on an odd quality, and his eyes look slightly manic.

"I'm being reborn. Again. I feed on the anger. I absorb the hatred. This demonstration has allowed me to reassert myself."

He takes off into the air, nearly deafening Pester. Moira looks terrified, the others have a look that can best be described as WTF.

Banshee hovers as far away as possible. "I'm Banshee in every way that matters, you insufferable peon!"

He unleashes his sonic scream at Pester, which is incredibly dulled by the time it reaches him, but still hurts. Pester can see one of the other people in the room concentrating really hard at deflecting it, but he still got the edge. Moira's getting other people out.

"I'm not a pe-ah!"

Pester is more or less thrown to a wall. A brick wall. It is pretty painful. All he can really do at this point is lower his sword handle in Banshee's (Or whoever this guy is) direction, and fire a taser charge at him, hoping to nail him in the chest.

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by noodles on Feb 15, 2008, 12:51am

Pester is slightly unnerved at having a voice in his head. So, that's why everyone's so freaked out when I do it to them…

Re: Generation M #13B: UK (Aniela, Pester, Allen)
Post by havok3595 on Feb 15, 2008, 12:54am

Aniela comes on the scene to see Pester's taser miss Banshee, who dodges out of the way quickly.

"I've got what I came for," he says. "I have no need to continue."

He lets out a wide bredth sub sonic scream, just as Allen enters. It renders all three of them unconscious.
