Funeral Pyre [Gen X #19 Epilogue]
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 11, 2007, 10:06pm

With the other Wildfire's gone, the group takes a moment to rest and deal with their current problem - Wildfire herself.

Though Marcus managed to remove the device with a bold move, it activated when she was brought to hell, delivering a fatal shock to her system. Claire's magic has managed to stabilize her condition…but…

"Magic is a fairly pliable thing." Claire sits at Wildfire's bedside on the jet, the tattoos on her body glowing white. "My study is mostly in fire-based magic, of course…but I do dabble in other fields. I think I can seal Izabella's body and buy some time…maybe a few days, maybe a few weeks, hard to really say. I can study and try to find a way to restore what was damaged. But I can't promise anything." She looks back towards Gen X. "I don't presume to give orders, but this might be the time to say goodbyes."

"Lady Izabella, I am deeply sorry we did not come sooner. You do not deserve this."

"You guys aren't all dead are you?" I ask into my comm. Didn't want to not go, but…yeah…I really sort of didn't want to go. Not to sound like an ass, but I didn't see the point in getting my ass kicked again, it wouldn't bring Wild back…although it would've made her laugh from her spot in hell.

[For the record, I'm not too fond of the way this has turned out - a bit too self-indulgent, I know. But that won't be a problem for some time, at least…]

"It's all right." Wildfire smiles weakly, nodding in Nathan's direction. "I'm just glad you came."

Lex looks at Wild.

"Come on, you were one of the strongest Hellions. You can pull through this…I didn't come all this way to let Roxie's sister die."

"Izzy?"

Sara's fighting hard not to tear up, and failing miserably.

God damn it. Radio silence. They're all dead.

Fuck!

Marcus is at the back. He failed, he failed to save her. Failed Wild, failed the team. And it's biting him deep down.

She had to pull through this, had too.

She can't be dying.

"Sara, I owe you an apology. I…when you lost your memory, I should have done more to teach you what sort of person you were before. To help you. I got wrapped up in things and lost sight of your needs…everyone's needs really. I should have spent more time with you all and relaxed more. I should have been more of a friend and less of a leader. Forgive me."

Re: Funeral Pyre [Gen X #19 Epilogue]
Post by Sara "Radical Dreamer" Lincoln on Aug 11, 2007, 10:27pm

Sara immediately bolts over and grabs her hand, kneeling down next to her.

"It's ok, please, don't be sorry, you did what you could. You're my overly serious big sister and I love you for it. But you always told me not to quit, so you don't get to now!"

She barely manages half the words out between the sobbing.

"Why can't you teleport onto a jet?!"

Re: Funeral Pyre [Gen X #19 Epilogue]

Wildfire runs a hand over Sara's face, feeling the contours. "You always did have a beautiful face, Sara. I never told you this, but I always liked the way you smiled…there was something pure about you that I couldn't touch. Never lose that, okay?"

Not looking at him. Not really because he hated him, more because that he was ashamed of himself.

"Well you were right about her."

Her meaning Claire.

She sniffles and keeps trying to keep herself composed

"I don't want to lose you"

"True, but I had to let my team do what they do best to have a chance at it. They say the highest honor a knight can give that has no land, no title, and no posesitions is a handshake. Will you accept it?" Nathaniel pulls the guantlet off his right hand, and offers the hand to him.

Wildfire whispers back into the communicator. "I'm sorry, too."

She lets her hand trace Sara's smile and lights up a bit. "Ah, there it is. Thank you. And…don't think of it as losing me. I'll just be gone for a little while. I'll be back. Train hard while I'm gone, that's an order."

Wait…

"No lawyers, and the key was more of a trap then anything. I had nowhere near as much freedom as Mephisto had and it's energy is running low. I don't have enough power to resurrect somebody.

He turned back to Nathan.

"Earlier you told us that we were shadows of ourselves. That we were bloodthirsty. Was that true?"

He remembered way back, he fired a particle beam at Selene's head, he ran towards one of the Wildfire clones with an intent of killing her. He remembered a time when he wouldn't have dreamed of fighting like that.

"I tried." Wildfire pauses for a moment, takes a deep breath. "It's funny, but I'm almost excited. If I die I'll go to hell. I'm sure of that, and I'm afraid, but, at the same time I hope I can meet all the people I've wronged over the years. Apologize. I could use that peace."

The tattoos on Claire begin to glow even whiter, almost blinding. "Not much time left…"

« You'll be horribly disappointed. I don't do that well at the unexpected emotions. »

Nephy can be seen standing a bit apart. Tearing up, but at the same time trying very hard to avoid anyone's gaze. Afraid that seeing Izabella or someone else would have her burst into full tears.

After a while though, I manage to make my way closer.

"I can help, you know. I mean… I think… I think… I can…"

My look turns downward.

"Please, is there anything I can do? Please say there is. I don't want to just… just watch…"

[Sorry about that, laundry.]

"We'll see." Wildfire's body sags, muscles slack, breath slows. "Tell Nicolette not to worry…"

Still. Perfectly still.

Claire holds her hands above Wildfire's body. "Amaterasu - a boon from your eternal sacrifice. I ask that your pet be allowed to feast upon my flesh with thrice its usual vigor, in exchange for tethering this woman's soul to our world through her body. Preserve the body, preserve the soul, so that we may one day reunite the two in harmony."

She claps her hands and Wild's body light up, covered in a white fire, one that would seem unbelievably hot - but is not. The flames are almost cold to the touch, harmless. "It's done."

"I basically put Wildfire's body on reserve. I could, possibly, bring her back from the dead right now - Amaterasu made sure the bond between body and soul remain - I have to thank you, Marcus; your trip to hell made creating the path much easier for me. Gave me something to work with." She cracks her neck. "But if I bring her back without fixing the problems in her body, she would be alive only long enough to die again. Fortunately, Amaterasu will keep her body in stasis, for a time - but if someone comes along in hell and discovers the tether, they'll break it and she'll be lost forever. It's a small hope, but…it's the best I can offer."

Claire stands up, turns to Nathaniel. "As for my fate, I leave that in your hands. All of your hands. Do with me what you will."

"Grrr…"

Adam growls a little, for lack of words. It's very hard to know what to say to somebody, when you have so many conflicting emotions bouncing off each other. Put that in the brain of somebody who barely knows how to process one emotion at a time, and you'll get a frustrated, and slightly frightened, little man.

"Only if you keep my friend alive…" he says while sniffling.

Adam's general confusion stays on his face in the form of anger, even as the question annoys him.

"I dunno, can you?"

That's something Adam's mom would always say whenever he'd ask her a question he knew the answer to.

"Ma, can I go to the bathroom?"

"I don't know, can you?"

Curse that woman.

I walk past him.

"You're letting your prdejust cloud your judgement. She's the only person we know that knows exactly what's wrong with her, along with an idea of how to help her."

I find Kelly, sleeping, just like he said.

"Hey Kelly, wake up."

I shake her shoulder a bit.

I open my eyes groggily.

"Mm? You’re back? No-one came to get me when you guys left…." I get out of bed, pushing the bed covers off of me, still holding Wild’s head. I stumble as I move to the door, grabbing onto the wall to keep my balance.

Adam can't maintain his glower any longer. Somehow, now that it's all out there, he just can't really stay angry. Partially because he is still slightly unsure about the role this girl played in what happened over the last few days, partially because he was just never good at holding a grudge despite how much he may like to.

"It's stupid, but I actually kind of liked pretending to be Wild for a while. Even if I didn't get to really know a lot of you during the time…it was nice to be acknowledged, for once." She nods. I’ve already said, it can just be sorted out so easily, and then we’d be in a place to get things said, too. And Wildfire… she’s paid penance for anything that she’s done wrong a thousand times over… and I’m sure that the Professor wouldn’t have taken her in if anything she’d done hadn’t been accounted for.
