Experiment: New Mutants story-go-round
Post by K'lar on Dec 27, 2006, 10:26am

Okay, just a few rules before we start:

1) If you want to write the next part, post a message saying dibs, or next, or something. I would hate for someone to start writing only to find out that someone else has already posted while they were writing their post.

2) This is purely an experiment, so have fun with it. But, do try to keep the characters right as much as possible

3) You can't write two parts in a row, and try to keep your parts below 1,000 words.

4) I would like to make this story canon, if at all possible So nothing TOO drastic.

All right, this is about all. I will start the storyt in the next post, and then have fun.

New Mutants in Stir Crazy

by Chi, Dilan Drummond, Zephyr, Reflex, Solidity, Apath, Wreck…

Being cramped in the sub-basements in the Xavier mansion is just not as fun as you'd imagine. Even with most of the X-Men out on missions all the time, it is still a cramped space, and emotions keep running high. Just yesterday, Rogue found almost the whole New Mutants team embroiled in a loud arguement, that almost turned to a fist fight. She's not sure what it was about…and even after talking to her team, it's clear that most of them had no clue either.

Xavier has decided that it's time for the kids to go strecth their legs and has assigned them on a mission…well, not really. A mandatory field trip to Washington, DC. The team is supposed to meet up with X-Factor.

«To answer your now deleted question, born: That is why it's an experiment. No real planning, I just want to see things flow. This is actually a fun writing exercise. My friends and I used to do this a lot, one night after a graduation party, three of us (including the one that Chi is loosely based on) stayed up all night doing this.»

“Oh this is just drenched in weak sauce.” Whined Dillan as the New Mutants were forced from the mansion’s sub-basement and stood facing a bus that was parked before the mansion. He had heard someone toss around the term “field trip” but he didn’t know they were going to take it so literally. After all, last time they tried someone wound up dying.

It was bad enough that they were going to visit Washington D.C, a city that had little left worthwhile to see after the actions of calamity. Sure X-factor had done their part in keeping the many historical structures as sound as possible, but at the end of the day their job was about protecting human beings, so naturally, the Lincoln memorial still left a little to be desired. It didn’t help that Dillan didn’t have fond memories of the city.

He had been there once, as a kid with his family. It rained the entire time, the city stunk (literally,) and when they needed directions to their hotel the guy they asked for helped wanted five dollars before he’d tell them a thing.

Dil nearly gagged as he watched Zephyr and Marisol sucking face as they got on the bus. He swore the before he died (and subsequently plummeted into Mephisto’s realm) he would find whoever thought about telling French-kissing to a shape shifter and murder them.

I know you weren't. As it turns out, I had a similar opinion of the place before I went for the family reunion; in grade school, I went there for my aunt's funeral, and I distinctly remembered it being the first time I ever saw a prostitute. Place has two sides, but, fortunately, I got to see the nice side recently.]

"Ah man, this is awesome." Zephyr sat back in his seat, looking out at the rain soaked city the way it was typically seen: from the comfort of a air-conditioned bus. "Always wanted to come here."

"Why's that?" Marisol was peering out the window with him, though she didn't have a fraction of his enthusiasm. Not that she was being a downer - she'd tried to get into the mood, at least for his sake. But, really, there wasn't a whole lot to see, unless you had a thing for construction sites.

"Well, it's just…so much history, you know? So much happening." The city's smell finally works its way to Zephyr's nose, and he can't help a sneeze. "Like the monuments, the White House, that time the aliens came and blew up everything."

"I…suppose." She paused a moment, letting that all process. "What aliens?"

"You know…the ones that came and started blowing everything up, messed up the White House and everything."

She cocked an eyebrow, still not getting it. "When did this happen?"

"Not sure when, but I saw it in that movie, the one with the guy from Jurassic Park and that rapper who's always screaming."

"Independence Day." Wreck, who'd been justifiably sleeping up until that point, woke up long enough to set things straight. "Jeff Goldblume's the Jurassic Park guy, Will Smith's the screaming rapper. Good movie. Also, it didn't ever really happen."

"Really? I mean, I knew it was a movie, but I alwasy figured it was a documentary or based on real event or something."

"Nope. Didn't happen."

"But Poseidon always said-" And the last horse comes across the track. "My brother's an ass."

"Apparently so." And back to sleep he goes.

Dillan just watched the whole scenario from the front of the bus, turning to Rogue with rolling eyes. “Please tell me we’re close to wherever we’re supposed to be.”

“I’m trying to get to the hotel, just can’t find nothing in this damned rain.” Rogue turned the windshield wipers up another notch as the rain started to intensify. “Starting to think that guy might’ve been lying to us.”

“Doubt it. Five bucks is such a tempting offer.”

“Stuff it, boy.”

General boredom started to settle in, along with the unnerving feeling that they were driving around in circles. Nadia, however, had the foresight to bring a book along, and while it wasn’t quite as relaxing as just going to sleep or as enlightening as learning the intricacies of tongue kissing, it passed. Only a few more chapters to go…

She glanced out the window, just for a moment, and caught her eye on something in the rain, moving through the back alley of some rundown building. The rain was thick now, she only saw a silouhette, but she saw enough to know that, whatever it was, it wasn’t human. Not quite. Oh, it was shaped like a human, moved like one, but humans didn’t crawl up walls and leap twenty feet in the air. At least, not normal ones. “Tell me I’m not the only one who saw that.”

Mike is sitting across the aisle from Lex and Jubilee. He leans over them to press his face up against the window to see towards where Nadia was pointing. "What did you see?"

Jubilee pushs Mike back down, "Careful! Pregnant lady here!"

Mike sticks his tongue out at Jubes, before slumping down into his seat, still trying to look, "I don't see anything, Nods. What did it look like?"

"I'm not sure! It was crawling up that wall over there and leapt away before I can get a good look," Nadia says, trying her best to ignore the Nods nickname.

Wreck says, "Sounds like a politician…"

Marisol sighes, "Can't we ever have a normal day off?"

Mike shakes his head, "What would be the fun in that?"

Dillan chuckled. “Ah, the vibrancy of someone who hasn’t had to fight a demon bear. Trust me; a normal day would be great.” Dillan was completely unaware, but as he spoke things around him changed. For one, the bus was going in the opposite direction, two, it was night, and three…there seemed to be a lot less people on it. Assuming no one was lying under a seat, he was able to pick out Jubilee, Wreck, Nadia and what he assumed was Marisol. He couldn’t really tell because she/it was dripping all over the bus floor.

“Uhh, someone want to explain why Wreck’s driving the bus?” he asked as he got closer and closer to the front of the vehicle. Jubilee seemed to be asleep, and Nadia was constantly shifting from flesh, to whatever materials she found around her seat. Dillan watched her, dazed, for a few moments before approaching Wreck.

“The truth is fearless leader, Rogue refused to head back to Westchester after what happened. Called herself a failure.” He grunted. Dillan didn’t like where this was going.

“I’m in the future aren’t I?” he questioned. “Where’s the rest of the team Jason!?”

“Dead. I’m pretty sure they’re dead.” He answered, nonchalantly. “Those of use you see here (excluding Jubes) are only alive because our powers make it very hard to die.” He paused. “I’m sure Nadia would thank you for that adamantium charm you gave her if she wasn’t a bit shell-shocked, but I guess we’re all a little bit freaked out by what happened.”

“Wreck, I don’t really have time for any bullshit. Tell me what happened so that when I get back I make sure this doesn’t happen.” Dillan wanted answers and he wanted them fast. His powers had really been malfunctioning lately and he wasn’t sure how long he’d have before he was cast back into the present.

“No.” he spat. “You’d just screw it all up anyway.” Dillan heard Wreck’s cackling laughter as he shifted himself back into the present. Something bad was going to happen, but right now he had another problem.

“Guys.” said Zephyr, barely containing his laughter. “I think we might need to stop the bus.” He finished, pointing to the side of the bus where Dillan was holding to an open window for dear life.

Re: Experiment: New Mutants story-go-round

The laughter woke Curt up.

"What the hell?" He muttered looking at Dil hang onto the window.

He had just gotten over the gruesome sight of the makeout fest Marisol and Zephyr were having, now their "leader" appearred to have been woken out of a nightmare.

"Something terrible's going to happen" Dil stammered.

The gang burst into laughter. All save Nadia. The thing she saw was still fresh in her mind. And with everything the team had been through..she knew not to dismiss something, even something as simple as a "nightmare", especially a "nightmare" from a time traveller.

"STOP THE BUS!" Nadia yelled.

"What?!?!" Wreck sat up now…obviously annoyed. "Stop the bus for what? Because Psycho Lad is wacked out?!?!?"

Mike seemed almost anxious that something was finally going to happen. He forced himself not to smile.

Wreck says, "Let him jump! That would really make this whole trip worthwhile!"

Marisol reaches out the side of the window. She forms a large net around Dil, holding him tightly against the side of the bus, "HOW DID THIS NUTCASE EVER LEAD THIS GROUP??"

The bus screetches to a halt, tossing the group out of their seats. Lex puts his hand in front of Jubes to stop her, and ends up smacking his face against the seat in front of him. Jubes chuckles slightly, "That is what you get for trying to cop a feel!" before checking to see if he was really hurt.

Mike had been working on his forcefields, and ends up putting his hands right through the seat in front of him. He seems stuck in place, "Little help, here?"

Rogue suddenly screams, "GET DOWN!" and ducks her head as a tremendous impact hits the front of the bus.

Zeph tries to stand up and says, "Did we hit something? I thought we were parked?? How could we hit something??"

«This post contradicts Dillan's future vision. Let's just say… he messed up the timeline. Yeah, badly.»

Marisol had just dragged the struggling Dillan back inside the bus, when the roof suddenly flew off with a horrible and loud ripping sound. It seemed like it had literally been sliced away and thrown aside.

There was a horrified gasp of air from Nadia's direction. Wreck was just in the process of opening his mouth, but didn't quite have the time to make a humorous comment as something grabbed him by his throat and threw him out of the bus in a wide and very, very high arc.

There was a short period while nobody moved. A quiet, monstrous leering sound filled the air, but nobody could see anything. Finally, Rogue spoke up:
"Everybody get out of-!"
She didn't get to finish as something cut into her stomach, tearing apart her clothes and breaking skin. There was a slight spray of blood; then she suddenly flew through the door of the bus, as if hit by an invisible force.

The New Mutants bust into movement.

«Just assume it's the same thing Nadia saw. If that was supposed to be somebody specific… too bad.»

The entire bus rocked violently, throwing Dillan onto the floor.

“We really have to get off this bus!” he shouted.
Everyone prepared to move out of the bus except for Sephula. Cringing, Sephula stayed right where he was.
“Sephula – GET OUT OF THE FUCKING BUS!” Dillan shouted, angrily.

The bus stopped rocking as something seemingly invisible smashed through one of the side windows.

“I don’t think he can, Dil,” Nadia said, looking at him.
“Someone grab him, the rest of you, get out!” Dil shouted.

Looking out the window, Mike saw a car go flying past the bus. “Oh man – it’s like the Incredible Hulk’s out there! I don’t want to face The Hulk!”

Zephyr walked over to Mike and helped him up. “Calm down. We’re not going to face The Hulk.” Zephyr gave him a light push in the direction of the door. “Come on. Dillan and Nadia are right. We need to get out.”

Sephula managed to get to his feet. A car now hurtled into the front of the bus, and Sephula went through the rear window, breaking his leg and a couple of ribs as he hit the floor. He was riddled with glass.

Dillan managed to get off of the floor with help from Nadia, and then grabbed Zephyr, and helped them off of the bus. All but two of the New Mutants was off of the bus.

Dillan was out just in time to see Spider-man pick up the bus and hurl up, up, and away.

“Marisol!” Zephyr screamed. “She’s still in the bus! Marisol!” Breaking Dillan’s grip, Zephyr flew after the bus, only to see in crash down into the ground before he could fly more than a few metres.

“Oh my god – so’s Nadia!” Dillan exclaimed. Following Zephyr, but not stopping in surprise at the violent crash like Zephyr did, Dillan and Lex ran over to the bus, just in time to see it begin to flame.

The bus exploded.

«Personally, I thought the Jeepers Creepers movies were pretty weak. The thing was at its best in the coat and in the truck.»

Wreck had found himself rapidly sailing into the sky. Whatever it was that had tossed him apparently had the strength of Hulk after catching a BB gun to the testicles.

He let out a resignated sigh, yet again wishing that flying was one of his abilities. Briefly, he remembered Rogue saying something about holding his arms out to slow himself down if he was ever in a situation like this again. So he did so, which did no good whatsoever.

He sighed again. Then stopped as he heard a familiar voice in his head.

Teleport, fool.

"……what?"

Kill yourself. Do it with that field of yours.

"…..are you aware of what happened the last time I did that?"

Yes. Stop being pitiful. You can retain consciousness if you want to. And you can choose where you want to pop up when you come screaming back to life. So DO IT.

Looking around himself to find he was in fact still flying with no indication of slowing down at all, Wreck could only nod. When the voices in your head speak, what choice do you have but to listen?

He willed himself to dissolve. Agony ripped through him, and he screamed, though no voice escaped his lips. Before he died, he looked down at the bus far below. He willed himself back to it.

It was over in an instant. He was dead, and then he was alive. However, in that instant, he found that the bus had changed headings and was now upside down.

And he smelled gas.

Glancing around quickly, he found a dazed Nadia and Marisol. Grabbing them both, he surrounded them with a field of destruction and charged through the far wall of the bus, just as the world exploded around him.

[Gah, wanted to check with heat, first…anyway, the following baddie is someone heat made up for a new villain, and I think he fits into the current situation quite nicely. I really wanted to ask him first, but he DID say that I could use him how I wished…I'll put his profile up in a minute.]

Zephyr gives Wreck some cover as they emerge, fanning away the flames until they get to a safe distance. “You two alright?”

“We’re fine.” Wreck lightens up on the field and the two girls back off, giving Wreck some much needed space. Marisol’s a little stunned, shying away from the bus’s intense, but otherwise…fine. Not a scratch. Not like she could be scratched. “Did anyone see what happened?”

Wreck just bends over, hands to knees, trying to catch his breath. “I’m fine, too, thanks for asking. Alive…for the moment.”

“Don’t expect it to last long.” The group eyes shoot to the edge of an alley, watching as a figure makes his way out. At first it seems like he’s cloaked in shadow; standard appearance for the villain set. But a flash of lightning shows the truth: He’s not cloaked in the shadow so much as he is the shadow. No eyes. No hair. No teeth. No clothes. Just a walking, moving, talking shadow.

Spider-Man swings over to the figure and stands by his side, body slumped in his standard ready position. “Hm…I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical of my employer’s assessments, but now, seeing you all in action…impressive movement. I’d expected to at least kill a third of you with that.” The being makes a slight movement with his hand, and the fake Spider-Man vanishes, changing into a shadow and merging with the darkness. “It won’t make a difference in the end, though.”

There‘s a bit of a silence, and Jubilee is the first to break it. “Hey, pal, you wouldn’t happen to have a good reason why we shouldn’t beat the tar out of you, do you?” Her hands start to sparkle and Lex takes her side, both of them looking ready and willing.

The figure doesn‘t seem the least bit impressed. “My, that’s cute, you’re a little couple.” If he had a mouth, he’d most likely be smiling. “As far as reasons go, I can’t think of any good ones on why you shouldn’t try to defeat me…but, for conveniences sake, let me tell you that you can’t. I’m not really into big speeches, so I’ll lay it out for all of you: My name is Nexus. I was paid - quite handsomely - to take you all to a certain person. I don’t know why, and I’m not telling you who, so don’t ask. My employer said that he wanted…ah, let’s see.” He produces a note card, scans it over. “Ah, yes, Dillan Drummond, Nadia Johannson, Marisol Morales, and…Wreck. Wreck…is that his whole name? Huh.” He tosses the card away. “However, I wasn’t specified whether to bring you back alive. It would be simpler to just take you willingly, even though I doubt you go for that. But I might as well put the offer out there; much better to do things peacefully than go through the standard super battle nonsense.”

This is the part I absolutely hate. This is the part everyone stands around looking tough until someone barks orders. Why am I always that person?

"Curt, get your ass over to X-factor headquaters. NOW!" Dillan shouted, with Reflex taking off immeadiately. "Gerald, link us." Although he wished not to put too much of a strain on Gerald, he needed a mental link with his team. Now all of his orders would be given out at the speed of thought.

As soon as they recieived their orders they began carrying them out. As per Dillan's orders Lex created a blaze around Nexus so hot it created and sustained it's own wind system - a firestorm. Zephyr was ordered to keep the blaze under control.

Rogue swooped down and carried off Jubilee, while the rest of the team awaited Dillan's further orders.

"You can probably call them off fearless-leader. Pretty sure that guy's toast." joked Wreck as the shadowy figure of Nexus appeared behind him, impaling him with a weapon that was seemingly an extension of his body. The villan grinned as Wreck's body slumped to the ground.

"Thanks for the tan." he stated, rushing forward, grabbing Dillan and tossing him into a nearby car.

Swooping down, Zephyr caught Dil and set him down before he collided with the car.

“I thought I told you to control the blaze?” Dillan snapped at him.
“Blaze’s gone. Take a look,” Zephyr replied.

The firestorm was gone.

“Account for every New Mutant that should be here, Zephyr. After that, get them to scramble!”

Looking where the firestorm was, Dillan saw Nexus encased in ice, as Lex swiftly shattered it with his now superhuman strength. After the ice around him had shattered, Nexus was floored by another powerful blow by Lex.

“Is that going to keep him down?” Dillan asked quietly. It might as well have been to himself.

But Nexus hears him, anyway. "No. It isn't."

Nexus' hand grows large and smacks Lex away, knocking him over to the other side of the street as the spectre rises. He's unshaken, he's undamaged, but there's the slightest hint of anger in his voice. "You children have obviously been watching too many Saturday morning cartoons; if you had any sense, you'd see the futility here. Have it your way."

The shadows begin to take form and morph around the New Mutants; gathering together, peeling from the sidewalk, moving on their own, alive. The shadows warp into human form and mold away, turning into a life-sized version of each New Mutant present. Right down to the last detail. Perfect replicas. "Now," He speaks slow, measuring his words, obviously strained from a great deal of mental effort. "I've reviewed your files thoroughly. It's no substitute for seeing the real thing, of course, but…" The replicas all take a battle stance. No chatter. "I'm willing to bet they'll do."

Re: Experiment: New Mutants story-go-round
Post by Dillon Drummond on Dec 27, 2006, 7:36pm

Before the replica New Mutants could take a single step, they were torn down by two blurring objects. The first the new mutant recognized as Curt, and the second…

HOLY CRAP! Roxy's gonna be so jealous! thought Zephyr as the X-factor member Quicksilver revealed himself. His reprieve was only brief as he and Curt took to attacking Nexus at a rapid speed, the death of his simulacrums apparently causing him a great deal of agony.

"Ibelievemyteammateswillbehereanyminutenow!" shouted Quicksilver, with few besides Reflex understanding his words. "Havenofearchildrenleavetheworktousadults."

Curt and Pietro attacked and pummeled Nexus for what seemed like an eternity, and while it seemed like it was hurting him, in reality it did little more than upset him. In a blur of motion he extended both of his arms and caught both Curt and Pietro in his grasp.

"How do you feel about this pompous ass?" questioned Nexus, turning his glance towards Reflex. "Do you admire him?" Curt nodded weakly and watched in horror as Nexus basically snapped the former Avenger in two. "There. Crippled. Now you two speed fiends match." he tossed the two heroes onto the ground.

"Drummond, Johannson, Morales, Wreck. Come with me, now."

Re: Experiment: New Mutants story-go-round

Wreck was yet again laying on the cold ground. Yet again the victim of some megalomaniacal twit who thought they could use him as a punching bag.

And they were right. He was a punching bag. That was the nature of his powers.

So do something else with them.

…..the voice again. The one he'd been hearing since….

Do something.

Shut up.

Do something!

Shut up!

DO SOMETHING!

"SHUT UP!"

Wreck suddenly shouts, as a sickly glow surrounds him. He dissolves again.

Then, a moment later, he reappears. This time directly inside of the shadowy attacker.

Needless to say, the results end up as less than pretty for either. Nexus explodes into a shower of what can only be described as shadows. Wreck, being more human, seems to implode upon himself.

"Oh, that's just NASTY," declares Zephyr from nearby, turning and looking like he's about to retch.

Amazingly enough after this display, both men are still alive. Wreck of course has already died from the trick and is in the process of knitting himself back together. Nexus meanwhile seems to be flailing about blindly, two separated halves of himself attempting to grab the other and shove himself back together again.

Re: Experiment: New Mutants story-go-round

After a considerable effort, Nexus managed to pull himself together, literally.

"You've caused me a great deal of pain. I'd kill you for it if you weren't already dead. Not that you seem to stay dead anyway. I'd love to keep killing you over and over again…that'd probably be quite fun. Alas, I don't have the time to experiment now, but we'll have another chance to get….reaquainted Jason."

Nexus places an solid ring of darkforce around Wreck, effectively immobilizing him.

"The rest of you are coming with me". With a wave of his hands "holes" appear under each of the New Mutants, save Wreck, causing them to fall in.

Seconds later they all reappear on a cold floor, each in their own sort of cell. They're all weakened to the point of exhaustion.

Outside their cells they see Nexus standing in front of them. "Well children I believe my work is done. I've delivered you to the interested party. Enjoy yourselves" With that, Nexus folds into himself and is gone.

The field of darkforce around Wreck vanishes once his teammates are gone. Wreck looks at the ground, and sees no way to follow.

"Screw it…" Wreck says, looking for a taxi. Wreck starts to walk up the abandoned streets, and sees Mike unconscious, blood slowly pouring down his head from where he seemed to hit a mailbox. Wreck sighes, "Almost forgot about the newbie."

Wreck walks over to Mike, "Hey! Kid! Wake up!!" Mike doesn't move. Wreck considers the situation for a moment, and hits Mike with his taser.

Mike jolts to his feet, looking around, "What happened??"

Wreck sighes, "You got knocked out…the rest of the team got kidnapped by…"

Mike interrupts, "The Hulk??"

Wreck shakes his head, "No, stupid! It wasn't the Hulk. We should get out of here in case he comes back…"

Mike argues, "But, our teammates…"

Wreck says, "No way of finding them. Let's go."

Mike says, "Our comm units!"

Wreck grumbles, "Damn…didn't realize you knew about those. All right, let's get this over with. I am not looking forward to running into that Nexus guy again, but you're not going to shut up until we find the others, are you?"

"Need some help?" a small crowd of voices all say at once behind them. They turn to find a crowd of Jamie Madrox standing behind them.

Elsewhere…

Nexus stands in the middle of a room that’s nearly as dark as he is. It’s an office, very plush, well-ordered, with the unmistakable scent of Windex hanging in the air…professional all the way. He’d come there to discus business, to get his pay from the woman who sat before him at her desk, engulfed in the shadows, the faint light from her computer screen lighting up a pair of Cheshire eyes. Unfortunately, it wasn’t going quite how he’d envisioned.

“Let me see if I understand this logic correctly: You asked for four New Mutants. I brought you them all, sans Wreck. And, because of this, you’re going to…what were your exact words?”

“Halve your pay.”

“Halve my pay. As in dissect it. Divide. Cut it in two.”

“Those are all synonymous with ‘halve’, yes.” She rapped away at the keyboard for a moment, almost ignoring him. “Is there some confusion?”

“There’s plenty.” He approached the desk, shadows flowing behind him, his power flexing, the kind of sight that would’ve intimidated some people and sent others screaming. She didn’t seem impressed. Quite annoying. “I went above and beyond your request; if anything, you should be paying me more.”

She shook her head, eyes never leaving the computer screen. “I’m inclined to disagree. My staff was prepared for the four New Mutants specified. By unloading them all, they’ll be needlessly stretched. With the majority team here, their chances of escape greatly increase, so accommodations will have to be made. With two of the team at large, I'll have to increase security and just pray that Wreck delivers himself. Also, I’ll have to find something to do with the excess mutants, none of whom are of any real interest to me. More than likely, you’ve cost me a great deal of money, and to top it all off, you didn't finish your job.” She finally gave pause to her furious typing and turned off the screen, letting the shadows cover her. “If anything, I should paying you much less. Or, at the very least, taking whatever expenses I incur because of this out of your paycheck.”

She was…convincing, he had to admit. There was a point, there, as irritating as it was. “I could kill you. Easily.”

“Not as easily as you think, but yes, you could. But you wouldn’t get your money, would you.” She was smiling. He could tell. “Twenty million is still a good gross, especially for a job that you completed so easily. I’m no expert on the mercenary trade, but I’d imagine you’d be hard pressed to find a job anywhere near that pay. Correct?”

As much as he hated to say… “Correct.” He was insane, yes, but not stupid. “I’ll accept your terms, however grudgingly. But, I’m curious…why are those four so important to you?”

She shrugged, leaning against her desk, crossing her legs. “Good question. What possible use would a scientist have for a boy who manipulates time, a girl who can turn her body into any substance, a boy who never dies and a girl who’s possibly the greatest metamorph on the planet?”

Sarcasm. He hated sarcasm. “Have fun with your new toys, Rosewell.”

"Jaime." grunts a deep voice from behind Wreck and Mike. "Petey ain't looking so good." Guido Carosella, most commonly known as Strong Guy, approached holding the shattered body of Quicksilver in his hands. "Think we might have to call Doc Samson."

Had Pietro not been so badly injured, Jaimie probably would've laughed. "Fucking hell." cursed Havok as he, Polaris, Rogue (who had left Jubilee somewhere safe) landed at the scene, Wolfsbane in tow. Wreck did his best to esxplain the situation to them (with Mike chiming in every so often)

In parts unknown, the of the team found themselves trapped in a circular room, jailed in little more than a transparent sphere. Besides for Zephyr, none of them had been stupid enough to bother attacking their cages. They figured if their captors had placed them in such objects than chances are they couldn't escape from them.

"You deserved that." stated Marisol jokingly, as she watched one of Zephyr's wind gusts bounce off the side of the sphere and strike him in the chest. He didn't appear harmed so he didn't feel bad about the comment. "Don't worry, Wreck, Rogue and Mike aren't here. Chances are they'll get X-factor and everything will be fine."

"How can you be so optimistic?" he questioned, turning towards Dillan as he uttered his next statement. "You saw what he did to Quicksilver right?" Dillan could feel hatred seep through his words and he deserved all of it. Because of him a good man would probably never move again.

The floor at the center of the chamber then opened up a small life rose from it, carrying a group of scientists. They began making motions towards Nadia but Dillan drew their attention.

"No, pick me first." he stated, and the scientists didn't seem to have any objections. One of them pressed a small button on their watch and Dillan's sphere rose from it's place on the ground and floated onto the lift. Dillan hoped at the very least as they took him down into a lower area.

Re: Experiment: New Mutants story-go-round

Dillan was groggy, dazed; they’d sedated him before taking him down to…wherever he was, and he was just coming out of it. Lying on table, strapped down, in the middle of a room that reminded him of something Dr. McCoy would go for, if Dr. McCoy were of the mad variety of scientists. He still had his clothes on, but that was a small surprise; judging from the diodes hooked to his head, their interested was in his brain.

“I know what you’re thinking.” The voice came from behind; tough voice, deep, but female. “You’re thinking about how you could use your abilities to teleport away.” Actually, the thought hadn’t occurred to him; he was still trying to shake the fog out. A good idea, though. “You can’t. Well, you could, theoretically, but these diodes…” A finger ran over his head, running through what little hair he had. “They can deliver stimuli as well as record it. If there are any signs of you activating your mutant power without my consent, you won’t be thinking coherently for a long time. If ever.”

That brought up an interesting question. “Why would I do it with your consent?”

Dillan craned his neck up at the sound of doors opening; a few men and women, all dressed in lab coats, all with their mouths and hair covered surgery style, all looking down on him like he was the latest guinea pig for test, entered. “We’re going to find out how that power of yours works, Dillan. You can either tell us and ease the process along, or we can open you up and find out for ourselves.”

She walked over to the table and looked down on him; her face as lean and rough as her voice. He spat into it. “Back off, bitch.”

“I’ll take that as a ‘no’.” She stood up straight and turned to the others, wiping the spittle of her face. “Start him off at the low voltages and work your way up. Stimulate each lobe until you find a positive response, then isolate.”

Back with X-Factor

“I think I have an idea where they went to.”

The group had been trying to determine that for the past ten minutes, but nothing good was coming from it; too many enemies, too many possibilities. Havok had been quiet the entire time, thinking, and it looked like he’d finally struck whatever he digging for. “I’ve been getting a few reports of MGH on the streets; there’s been some turf wars since the catastrophe messed everything up, and some local gangs were looking to even the odds. Broke it up, but I haven’t had the chance to look into it as well I’d like.” Havok’s hand went to his chin, Sherlock Holmes-style. “Still, I’ve got ideas. Since you say you weren’t attacked by this Nexus guy before, it might be safe to say he works around DC, right? Right.”

Wreck nodded. “I got the feeling he was a hired gun. Didn’t seem to care much, just wanted his pay.”

“Guy like him probably wouldn’t come cheap, either.” Madrox mulled it over for a moment, imitating Havok’s pose and breaking it with a snap of his fingers. “There’s this pharmaceutical company on the west side, called LexiCorp. Heard they made it pretty well out of the disaster. They got the resources, I’d bet.”

Polaris nodded, already hovering, ready for flight. “It’s worth checking out, at any rate.”

“So what’s the plan then?” Mike finally spoke up, looking bright-eyed, as usual. “Go in with guns blazing, take them out quick.”

“I wish…” Wreck just felt around in his pocket, muttering something about his lost gun that Dillan STILL hadn’t returned.

"Now you see, this right here is what I call interesting." laughed Dillan as walked in circles around the table his younger self was currently laid out on. The present Dillan lay their gasping for breath, still reeling from the effects of the electric shocks. His older self had apparently stopped time (how he didn't care) but he was glad he was being given a brief reprieve.

"Help…me…" he stammered. His older self looked at him and grinned. He would've loved nothing more than to provide aid, but the events unfolding were far to intriguing to stop. Ever since the calamity he had noticed a great deal of deviations to the timeline occuring in the past (or present depending on your prespective) that weren't affecting the future at all, but at the same time weren't creating alternate time-lines.

He didn't even bother thinking about the future Dillan had visited earlier where most of the team was killed, he had no clure where that fit in with the grand scheme of things. The phemonena occuring required observance.

"You need to stop being stubborn." he stated smugly. "Tell Rosewell how your powers work, and while you're at it ask her if she knows anything about Apocalypse ruling the world." he vanished and time restarted itself. Before another shock could run through Dillan's body he began pleading for mercy.

"STOP GOD DAMN IT, JUST STOP! I'LL TELL YOU WHATEVER YOU WANT TO KNOW!"

Back at X-factor Val Cooper sat behind her desk, examining files on LexiCorp. She was glad that Havok had the sense to contact her before he ran out and did something stupid.

*Leave it alone Alex.* barked Val through his communicator. *Come back to base right now, we'll think of another plan.*

"Val are you kidding?" shrieked Polaris. "These guys have probably captured a bunch of kids and they've hurt Pietro, we need to shut them down.

*No. You may not understand this but these people do business with a large number of powerful people. People whose names you've probably never heard of but should still fear nonetheless. Just come back to base, I'll call some friends and we'll figure out what to do. The connection died. Judging by the feedback coming through the line, Lorna probably fried the communicator, seeing as she couldn't hail any of the other X-factor members she had probably destroyed theirs too.

"Shit." she cursed as she accessed a special communications line known only to her and a few others. "Nick, it's Val. We've got a problem…yeah it's the New Mutants again."

"Those kids are going to do what the Red Skull, Strucker, Viper or even Zemo couldn't do…….make me retire" Fury sighed as he put out his cigar.

He had just been relayed the info from Val and as usual, the shit had hit the fan. He pushed a button on his com-piece in his ear

"Quartermain, I need you to round up that new batch of Howling Commandos. I got an op for them that I don't want traced back to S.H.I.E.L.D.. I want the squad selected yesterday!"

Something that didn't sound like a "Yes Sir" but at least meant that, came from Quartermain.

Meanwhile

The others all sat quietly in their cells. No one had made any attempt to escape since Zephyr's incident.

"So what, are we just going to sit here while they do god knows what to Dillan?!?!? Then wait on our turns?!?! No thanks!! Nadia yelled, out of anger and frustration

Lex was so worried about Jubilee that he half heard her…but her tone was enough to spark him. "She's right…since when do we just sit here and accept whatever's coming? If I have to break out fo this goddamned place by myself then I will."

Curt still shaken from his bout with Nexus responded. "Yeah but what do we do? The cells seemed designed to counter all our powers. And not just my cell being speed proof…I mean all the cells seem to have a counter for all of our powers."

Just then Marisol noticed something shiny on the floor…was it? Yep, it was Dil's knife…he probably dropped it on purpose. Marisol picked it up.

Mike and Wreck are traveling with X-Factor. Wolfsbane smiles at them, "So…ye are the New Mutants now? Are you makin' us all proud?"

Mike shrugs, "Kinda…we seem to keep getting into trouble and doing things behind the Professor's back…"

Rahne nods, "Aye…that sounds like being a New Mutant, all right."

Havok's expression is all business, but Jamie and Strong Guy are in the back of the jet goofing around. Lorna is standing next to Pietro, a look of concern on her face.

Havok comes on the intercom, "Everyone strap in for a landing. We're there."

Wreck whispers to Strong Guy, "He always this serious?"

Guido shakes his head, "Nah! He's usually much worse than this. You caught him in a good mood, today! He must have gotten…" Lorna looks at him coldly… "err…never mind."

X-Factor and the New Mutants head right into the building. Mike is looking around for lasers, or ninjas, or robots or laser ninja robots, Instead, it appears to be a simple office area. A woman in a lab coat comes rushing out to meet them, "You must be X-Factor! My name is Dr. Carmen Rosewell! I'm glad you came so quickly!! There is this…thing tearing up my laboratories! He call's himself…oh what was it??"

"Nexus." Mike says coldly.

"THAT'S IT!" Carmen says, smiling at Mike warmly. Mike blushes. Guido puts a strong arm around Carmen and says, "Don't worry! We'll take care of everything!"

Havok yells, "X-Factor, be ready for anything! You two stay here and make sure the doctor and her people get out of here."

Re: Experiment: New Mutants story-go-round
Post by Roxanne "Madrock" Madison on Dec 28, 2006, 6:18pm

This was highly annoying.

She’d factored on some interference; sooner or later, the New Mutants Nexus didn’t capture would’ve have surely found out where the others were being held. By that time, though, Carmen would’ve gathered all the date she needed, so interference would’ve been a moot point.

But this was too soon for her tastes; she’d managed to extract Dillan’s DNA and learn enough about the way his powers worked from all the inane babbling, but, while it did hold interesting possibilities, it wasn’t nearly enough. Not what she’d planned at all.

“Hey, did you say something?” Wreck broke into her train of thought, glancing back at her as X-Factor bounded off.

“I’m sorry, what?”

“Heard you mumbling something.” He looked her over, getting a touch too suspicious. “You okay? You look stressed.”

“Oh, I was just thinking about my insurance policy, is all. You know how these super battles are, insane property damage.”

He shrugged, not completely sold, but willing to give it a rest. “Huh.” He turned back away.

This was salvageable. Definitely salvageable. There were other offices, other laboratories, other places to conduct research. True, there’d be some fallout for this, but officially speaking, she was too high on the corporate ladder to actually be down there experimenting. Her name wasn’t on any records, none of the files came back to her, the right people could be bought, and surveillance tapes…well, accidents happened. And with Nexus’ presence and his lack of criminal record, she could make up a variety of stories, anything from mind control to cloning.

Yes, very salvageable.

But there was the matter of Dillan. He was alive. He’d seen her. And with X-Factor here and a very pissed off group of New Mutants about to freed, that could’ve made things a tad difficult if he waltzed out and saw her standing around. An exit was in order. A messy one.

“Oh God, my contacts.” She started fumbling with her eyes, pouring on the helpless lady act. “In all the confusion just now, they must have fallen out.” She turned to Mike, smiling and hating every second of it. “Would you mind…?”

“Huh?” Not getting it.

“My contacts, could you help me find them.”

“But…you lost them inside.”

“I did?”

“Well, yeah. You said you lost them in the confusion, and the confusion was inside, so…”

Fine, she could’ve worded it better. “I meant out here, sorry.”

Mike went to work, crouching down, looking through the grass, but Wreck stood in the same position, looking on. “Sorry, I’d help, but I’ve got to fill up my manly quota for the day. Mike’s got it.”

Whatever. Just made this easier.

While Mike was bending down, Carmen came up behind him, reached down, grabbed him by the ankle and hurled him Wreck’s way before either of them had a chance to retaliate. The sound of bone hitting bone echoed throughout the field, and Mike hit the ground in a slump, unconscious. Wreck was still moving, albeit in a slow crawl. High pain tolerance. Expected. As good a time as any to see that healing ability in action…

«For the most part I don’t really know what to write, so I’m just going to add in this tiny part.»

Rogue hovered above the debris strewn battleground where the New Mutants fought Nexus, and lost to Nexus. There was still a New Mutant unaccounted for. Apath hadn’t been in the battle, and unless he had abandoned them – unlikely – something happened to him. Rogue was willing to bet that he was somewhere here. She saw something stir underneath the hood of a car – minus the car. Swooping down, Rogue investigated it.

Sephula rolled out from underneath the hood.

“God’s sake, Sephula!” she exclaimed after seeing the state he was in – one leg and several ribs broken, and skewered with glass.

“’M fine… ‘M okay… Jus’ point m’ in that bashard’s direction an’ I’ll tear ‘im a new un…” His eyes were rolling and he was barely conscious.

“I gotta get you back to X-Factor.”

“I sed ‘m ‘k’, di’n’ I? Jus’, jus’, gimme a li’l chance t’heal an’ I’ll ge’m. I won’ le’m ge’ way withit again… no’ after he wreck’d their lives las’ ‘ime.”

“Hush up boy, you’re delirious.” Rogue scooped him into her hands and set off.

***

Carmen crouched over Wreck watching him crawl, deciding how exactly to kill him. Finally, she reached a decision and, leaning over, snapped his neck and watched him heal from it. As soon as he healed he tried to say something but she broke his jaw and decided on how next to kill him, crushing his ribs and causing them to collapse on his heart and lungs.

“If I had time… the things I could do here… you truly are a remarkable person. All of you are. The number of ways I would kill you, the experiments I would conduct… Another time.”

She tore his legs off and threw them a little way away from his body, and began walking away.
«Is there anyone left at X-Factor? Someone who could set his leg?»

Wreck didn't have any time to think of a witty quip. The scientist lady had literally torn him apart. Astoundingly, this was something that had yet to happen to him yet, and he had thought that everything possible had happened to him already.

He blacked out. Then he awoke, and something had shifted. Enough so to cause Carmen Rosewell to pause in her tracks.

"Hee…..heh…..", Wreck laughed, his voice high pitched and crackly. "Rose. Sweet little flower. How many times must I wilt you before you stay wilted?"

She turned to look at him. He was still laying there on the floor with no legs. All the same, he was giggling and thrashing his stumps about.

"…….do I know you?", she asked stupidly.

"Ah, it asks pointless questions. And yet my friend is far, far away, and cannot lend answers."

Wreck looked at her, his glasses having fallen away to reveal teeth-eyes that should be expressionless, but nevertheless reveal complete and utter lunacy.

"But I need him not! I can answer the young man's questions, oh yes I can….."

"……I'm a WOMAN, you halfwit….."

No sooner had Rosewell spat out the words, then Wreck had enveloped himself in a sickly glow. He disintegrated into nothing, and Carmen had just enough time to experience an odd sense of deja-vu, as he reappeared behind her. Diving from above, he plunged a glowing hand through her chest.

Within LexiCorp Head Quarters the New Mutants who were being held hostage, not wanting to suffer the same fate as Dillan (whatever that was) had developed an intricate plot to free themselves from their cells. One which might have worked, had X-factor not smashed into the room and saved them first.

"Took you guys long enough." sighed Marisol, casting a smug grin Zephyr's way.

"They took Dillan in some lift under the floor!" shouted Lex as Havok had Guido move the teens away as he blasted through the ground. The group ran through a lhall that seemed to stretch for miles before entering a the lab facility. There were very few signs of life, the scients all lay strewn about on the floor, all missing various limbs. Dillan sat behind a desk, reviewing some files on a computer screen.

"Dillan did you do all this?" questioned Lex, but Dil cut him off.

"They've got files. On each and every one of us." he paused. "Not just old ones either, up-to-date ones. I'm looking at the results of the physicals Beast gave us all before Christmas." He stood up and looked at his team. "I think we've got a serious problem."

"No duh we have a problem!" shouted Zephyr. "Not only do we have to deal with shady organizations kidnapping us, we've got an insane field leader who murders people!" he screamed louder, pointing at the writhing and dying men and women that lay around the lab.

"Oh..that." Dillan stepped over the body of a scientist. "It was self-defense…" Before he utter another lie a green light filled the room and group of fully armored soldiers appeared. In fluid motions they scrambled and surround the group of mutants.

"You heard the boss, no survivors."

The soldiers surround them, forming a perimeter and making sure every inch is covered. Plenty in the room, more coming in from the hallway. No escape from this.

“Hey, fearless leader.” Zephyr steps along with the others, forming up around Dillan in the center of the room. “You want to maybe do some leading?”

“You want an order?” Dillan stuffed a disk in his pocket and looked around the room, analyzing. “Beat the crap out of them.”

Back outside…

“You…stupid…bastard.”

Carmen wasn’t dead, but she was close.

As Wreck’s hand bore through her chest, that same déjà vu feeling kicked in and told her to jerk out of the way. She grabbed him by the wrist as his entropy field dragged down her side, cutting through ribs, burning through the flesh and coming out just above her hips. If she’d been a little slower, if she’d been a second off.

She was alive, but barely; her powers were already working overtime to heal the wounds, for all the good it would do. She needed immediate medical attention. Surgery, even.

But not before she kicked Wreck in the crotch, sending him flying away and probably breaking his spine in the process. Just had to do that.

“Son of a bitch…next time.” She gave one last look to make sure Wreck wasn’t getting back up and hobbled off as fast as she could, running off into the night as the rain grew even stronger…

Back inside…

“Zephyr, scatter them.”

A strong blast of wind ripped through the winds and tore into the soldier’s rank, knocking a few flat, knocking a few weapons away, stunning them all.

“Marisol, Curt, clean up.”

As the soldier’s started to rise, a horde of rubbery fists reached out and started slamming into the crowd, working their way around like tentacles, coming from all sides, while a blur tore into them, smacking them around with fast and furious punches

“Nadia, clear us a path; Lex, back her up.”

Nadia turned into vibranium and dove into the horde, barreling through them with ease; bullets bounced off, punches and tackles were cast aside, not a bit of momentum was lost. Heatwave’s flames kept the straggles at bay, leaving a cleared path behind them as they ran down the hallway, surrounded in flame.

Dillan was the first one on it. “Everybody, move!”

The rest of the group followed straight after Nadia and Lex, blazing a trail. Zephyr’s wind kept the soldiers and the flame at bay and, more importantly, off Marisol, but the ruse would only hold out for so long. “Cool as this is, anyone see an exit?”

Nadia did. “About to make one.” She dove through a wall and spilled outside with the rest of the group, tumbling out on LexiCorp’s front lawn.

As the group spilled out of the lab, another group of the same soldiers that attacked before come forth, only this time, there numbers had been tripled. Dillan wasted no time in directing his team.

"Does the kid remind you of anyone?" Polaris asked, stopped a bullet from entering Alex's spine.

"Who? Dillan?" replied Havok, firing off a rapid volley of energy blasts. "Not really."

"Oh come one. Ye dinnae see it!?" screamed Wolfsbane as she zoomed past Alex after being fastballed by Guido.

"Jeez, I've got twenty-two mes to keep track on and even I noticed it." laughed Madrox, as they finished off the current batch of commandos only to be confronted by another.

"Hell, these guys just don't stop do they?" whined Guido. "But back on topic Hav, I've only fought with the guy once or twice and even I've noticed."

Havok was getting fed-up with his teammates all knowing something he didn't. "Seriously guys, who's this kid supposed to remind me of!?" he screamed, pissed off.

"Cyclops." replied Dillan, as he appeared on Guido's shoulder, tossing a commando to the ground. "Least powerful team member, yet he's the one that barks all the orders."

"Not that that's a bad thing." stated Lorna, blushing. Dillan smiled at her. It's hard to get mad at someone when you've read their obituary.

When they were sure the attacks had stopped they attempted to interrogate the soldiers that hadn't snuck away in the confusion. Gerald's mental probes were worthless, their seemed to be inhibitors in their brains (ones that Lorna couldn't deactivate)

Dillan motioned to Lex and pointing at soldier. "Raise the thermostat." Lex complied and Dillan turned to another soldier. "You can hear his screams can't you? Tell us who sent you." The man was entirely tight-lipped, wouldn't say a word…his comrade however couldn't shut up about it.

"FURY! IT WAS NICK FURY! HE SENT US HERE TO—-" a gunshot wound to the head silenced him. The tight-lipped soldier was now standing, helmet removed, revealing the face of Colonel Nick Fury.

"Anything you want to know you can ask me."

Rogue and Sephula arrive at X-Factor's headquarters. Val is standing by waiting for them. She directs some medics to take care of Sephula, and takes Rogue off to the side. "All right, what did you kids do to piss off Fury? That arrogant bastard has been in my ear all morning about the New Mutants being a threat and that I need to lock them up."

Rogue sighes, "He's been up their ass since day one. SHIELD was doing some nasty experiments with technoorganics, and one of their device happened to "accidentally" attack the mansion. The New Mutants had just about no training then, but they still humilated SHIELD pretty good. Later, on we found out that SHIELD was experimenting on the remains of Warlock, so we ended up butting heads again."

Val shakes her head, "This makes no sense. SHIELD is a lot of things, but they are not usually the bad guy. I can't see Fury supporting this kind of thing."

Rogue sighes, "Well, believe it, Val."

Val is torn between her job and her friendship with the X-Men. Finally, she nods, "All right." She picks up the communicator, "Val to Alex, can you hear me? We've got some major problems!"

Alex's voice is staticy, "Val? Let me get back to you. We're a little…preoccupied." The channel goes dead. Val turns to Rogue, who is already gone.
