Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 5, 2007, 1:07pm

Critter winds up a bit lucky - or maybe not, since she can sense this - and finds a sub-level to Abby's laboratory, where she houses failed experiments for future use. There are a lot of cages in this dark, dank area, filled with abominable creatures, animals mixed from different species.

Keira is more than a little disturbed by this scene, but at the same time, she sees a hell of a variety of options to play with. She knows that she will probably go a little wild when she synchs with one of these creatures, but she's surprised to realize that doesn't bother her all that much. Her head was still hurting from when Michael attacked her.

She crouched in the shadows between some of the cages.

"I feel it fair to warn you…you're not going to hide from me that way."

The animals in the pens start to cause a loud ruckus, banging against the bars and just generally thrashing around. Alpha knew where she was telepathically from the animals, so stayed well away from there…for now.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 7:26am

Keira mutters to herself, "Just my luck, I gotta fight Critter Light."

Louder she says, "Eddie? Is that you? I'm hiding out from the Masters…they scare me!" Keira reaches out and starts doing a quick inventory of the animals finding what she can use to cause some damage here.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha

Alpha barely suppressed a scowl of rage. He hated being called by his given name, because he hated the people who gave it to him. That's why they're dead, after all.

"You should be scared of them," he says. A crow flies down towards Critter, alighting on a cage near her and fixing her with a baleful gaze. "I'm not Eddie, by the way. But you already knew that."

The crow takes flight and moves to peck at her eyes.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 9:36am

Keira synchs up with seems to be a tiger and monkey hybrid. She leaps on top of the cage and smacks the crow from the air with a roar, "Come on, Eddie!! That's your best shot?" Keira leaps casually from cage to cage, "I have a nasty headache and really am not in the mood for this!"

Keira lets rip with another roar and leaps towards Alpha.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 10:03am

It was all Alpha could do not to laugh. She honestly thought she had a chance.

He took the fall from her leap, giving her false hope. When that gets ripped away, it will make the suffering even more exquisite.

"Oh no, you got me," he said. "For now."

Alpha's brown bear moved in from just outside the room to knock her off. Sure, she could copy that too…but he was counting on that having the same effect on her that it did on the alternate version of himself.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 10:06am

Keira dodges aside from the bear's attack. She uses her superior tiger-monkey agility (yes, I just got to type the words "superior tiger-monkey agility) to move rake her claws down the back of the bear's leg. Unfortunately, Keira does not like hurting animals, so she did not go all that deep or do that much damage…she really just made him angrier

Keira says, "Nice try, but you're just too slow to get me, Eddddieeee…" Keira sticks her tongue out at Alpha.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 10:34am

"I suppose I am," said Alpha nonchalantly. "Huh."

Suddenly, the room began to fill with Alpha's pack. Dogs, birds, rodents, a couple of apes…all with the same glassed over look.

"You don't mind if I take a couple dozen more tries, do you?" He smirked somewhat evilly.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 10:36am

Keira feels panic threaten to overwhelm her. Her voice cracks slightly as she says, "Poor widdle Eddie can't even fight his own battles…"

Keira takes a swipe at some of the closest and smallest of the pack, but there is obviously way too many of them. She leaps back onto the cage and roars trying to scare some off, but a huge chunk of her confidence is gone know.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 12:11pm

Alpha laughed somewhat cruelly.

"You take the form of animals, you take some of their psyche with it, and you don't understand the pack mentality? Any of them would do anything for their Alpha. Try it. Kill a couple, I don't care. They're willing to die protecting me."

Still, the pack held back slightly, merely entrapping Critter rather than actively attacking her.

"However, if you prefer…I sense you take some of the beast mind when you take the form of a beast. Roll. Over."

He focused his telepathy towards the instinctual nature of the tiger monkey that he could sense inside her…and overrode it, as he had overrode the instinctual nature of so many animals.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 12:13pm

Keira feels her body losing control, so she did the first thing she can think of. She dropped her synch, freeing herself from his mind control. She was way past panic at this point. Without her powers, she was a skinny little girl with some gymnasts training and not much else. She crouched down on top of the cage and started to back away from the pack.

[Keira…;_;]

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 12:45pm

Alpha approached…not too closely yet, knowing the potential for tricks. He didn't see himself as a coward, merely…practical. There was still a layer of protection between him and Critter.

"What a shame. I'd hoped to add you to their number. It would have been great for your teammates' morale."

He considered for a moment.

"Right now, I'm deciding which limb to remove first. Are there any that you're less attached to than the others? I should say emotionally invested in…I'm sure they're all attached equally well, physically. Although I could test that too…"

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 12:48pm

Keira drops down behind the cage out of sight. She reaches in her pocket and pulls out Mickey. She synches just long enough to squeak out some directions quiet enough so Alpha doesn't see what she's doing. She drops the synch immediately. The mouse runs across the floor to one of the far cages and slides the bolt loose. The mouse immediately moves towards another cage.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 1:07pm

Right after Keira releases Mickey, the pack is upon her. Two dogs sink their teeth into her legs, dragging her down and away from cover, where the bear grabs her and lifts her into its grasp, immobilizing her and causing some pain.

"As amusing as letting you run away scared and frightened might be, only to catch up to you later, I'm afraid we have to minimize the number of escaped detainees. I'm pretty sure it's up to me HOW we minimize them, though, and I'm still considering. Why shouldn't I have my bear crush your ribcage right now?"

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 1:09pm

Mickey manages to open up a few more cages…unfortunately the fifth one is a Cat/Octopus, and Mickey ends up as breakfast.

Keira is gasping in pain, "Because….you….you have enough to worry about."

Several hybrid creatures come pouring out of the cages and tearing their way through the pack. It's not that they have anything against Alpha and his creatures, they just happen to be in the way of their escape route. Keira tries to kick free of the bear, but he tightens his grip, and his claws pierce deep into her skin.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 1:26pm

Alpha started to smirk. "If you honestly think that I'll have any trouble with ANIMALS…"

Then, he realized as he began to exert his powers that these creatures, due to their hybrid and terminally screwed up natures, were far harder to manipulate than the pack had been. Hastily, he sent the pack to clear a path for him and headed for the door.

"I don't think they'll be any easier for you, though," he said. "Bear, break her ribs, then throw her to the ground. The pack will wait outside."

The bear managed to exert just enough pressure to crack several of Keira's ribs, and tossed her to the ground. However, this action wasted enough time that a gorilla/shark managed to catch up to the bear and kill it before it could leave. Keira was left alone with these grotesque hybrids, and the corpses of members of the pack, with her ribs broken. Alpha sealed the door the second things looked bad for the bear, cutting his losses.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 1:28pm

Keira looks around, exhausted and in agony. She manages to synch with the tiger/monkey again, but it's pretty much just enough to keep her fighting for a very short time. She fades to black as the cat/octopus wraps it's furry little tentacles around her broken ribs.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 6, 2007, 2:48pm

It took a few minutes, but Alpha was eventually able to get the hybrids under control, at which point he re-entered the room to judge the damage.

"I'm going to kill Thinker for her horrible design flaws. None of these are worth a spot in the pack, and they killed my bear."

Nonetheless, he simply puts them back in their cages before walking over to look at Keira.

"I never would have figured she could survive that," he says. "She's unconscious, and will probably die eventually, but still…" Keira's got blood slowly dripping from the corners of her mouth and even unconscious her breathing is labored and wet sounding. There are deep tears in her stomach where the bear's paws tore in, and in her legs where the dogs pulled at her.

He drags her limp body leaving a trail of blood as he does so. He dumps her roughly into one of the vacated cages, one that's nearly air tight to prevent small creatures from escaping, and locks her in.

"I should go help the others, but the pack's been decimated enough. I suppose I'll just stand guard," he says to no one in particular.

«Likewise.»

Alpha has let one of his dogs into Keira's cage, but ordered it not to do anything. Yet. It looks hungry and a little sad, and is just sitting there licking its chops.

"Just in case any of your buddies shows up," he tells her bleeding, comatose, and possibly dead form. "I think they'll know that attacking me turns you into a Scooby Snack, and I don't think they'll risk that."

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 7, 2007, 9:36am

Keira is still unconscious. She's dreaming fitful dreams seeing all of her teammates killed by the Masters…all because she failed. She just hoped that someone managed to escape to tell Kal and Mom what had happened to her…and she hoped she would be remembered as a hero. For some reason, that was really important to her. She always tried so hard….

Re: Critter vs. Alpha

~Abby~

I stumble along in the ship, still in the Iron Girl suit, kind of dazed out - I can't even begin to say how I feel about Dreadnought's death, but that's…that's something I'll deal with right now. First priority is getting back to Thinker's lab and doing something with this. Pretty banged up.

I think I take a wrong turn or something, because I end up in this room. With cages. And dogs. And…Eddie. And…Keira. "Oh, my god…"

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Ixnay on Aug 7, 2007, 11:23pm

"Hey there."

I wave happily.

"I can already see which way the wind's blowing, so I'm going to offer you a deal. And you're going to hear me out, because the second you get aggressive towards me, that dog gets aggressive too. And it's not going to take very much, if you know what I mean."

I pause for effect.

"So here's the deal. You let me go, I let her go. I get a free pass back to my dimension, where I can go back to doing what I was doing before our you decided it was a good idea to come over here. But with less teammates."

I shrug.

"I think you're going to have to decide kind of quick, though, because she's probably going to die soon. If she isn't dead already."

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Marisol Morales on Aug 7, 2007, 11:26pm

I'm almost tempted to try something; this suit is like a glorified Swiss Army knife, there's got to be something that could take him out fast. But…Keira looks bad. Really bad. Like she's about to die. I don't have time to fight.

"…fine, you can go. But I have no clue how to get you back to your dimension, so…"

"Hey. That's not fair."

I sic the dog on the girl anyway, even though I know it's a futile gesture. It's a DISTRACTION. I take off down the hall, having what's left of the pack provide cover. There has to be a way home here somewhere.

"Hiya."

Re: Critter vs. Alpha

God damn it…I had hoped hero Joseph wouldn't know that trick.

"Look, just get out of my way, and I'll leave you alone. All I want to do is go home."

But if the pack gets a clear shot, they will hit him. Otherwise…I can keep throwing them at him all day to buy me a few seconds here, a minute there, but it just isn't worth it. He'll keep up.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Last Hero on Aug 8, 2007, 8:04pm

Keira's eyes flutter open at all the noise outside the cage. The dog clamps down on her leg, but she kicks him furiously with the other leg…not very effective with such limited leverage in the little box, "Whoever's out there, I need a little more room to work!!"

I look around as if considering.

I urge the pack to attack. It shouldn't take him long to get through them, but it will let me get out of here. Out of COBRA-1, and off to someplace on this planet where I can rebuild.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Joshua/Darya/Kara/Marcus on Aug 9, 2007, 10:10pm

Alright, should've known he'll do that.

Rather peeved, he fired several electric blasts at the dogs, of course, it's uncontrolled and has a possibility of hitting Alpha but even if it did, no big lost.

Re: Critter vs. Alpha
Post by Ixnay on Aug 9, 2007, 10:17pm

«And as if on cue…»

With the bought time, I take off down the halls, not really heading for anywhere in particular. Damn, I should have spent more time studying the layout.

But just a relative stone's throw away, there's a massive hole in the side. Theoretically, I could jump out, control some birds, and have them carry me to safety. My crows are relatively thinned out, so I'd need to find some in the area. That shouldn't be hard…there's got to be seagulls and crap all over the place.

As I begin to call out to them telepathically, arranging my escape, suddenly I feel a shock and burning sensation in my back. I lose my balance and teeter over the edge…panic grips me. I try desperately to swing back and grab the carrier, but there was too much force. Random electrical discharge…and a few minutes too early for my rescue. No, a few seconds. I see the birds coming, but it's too late now, I'm already going too fast. The ocean dominates my view as it rushes towards me…as I rush towards it. Maybe I could control a shark or something…have it swim me to safety…

You know something? All those movies you see where someone hits the ocean from a huge distance and immediately is fine are BULLSHIT. Damn thing almost knocks me out. At which point I realize that the shark I summoned…that hurt way too much for me to keep controlling it. And I'm bleeding. And I know what that means.

Oh, the irony.
