Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 7:37pm

One morning, Generation M awakes to discover something is clearly wrong. The entire back yard is cordoned off, which is clearly visible from the dining area. In the middle of this area, a patch of earth about six feet long has strangely risen about seven inches off the ground. The gardener is explaining something to Kitty Pryde, while Colossus is keeping an eye out to make sure no one approaches. Kitty appears to be crying.

Besides its height, nothing seems odd about the mound. The grass is consistent with surrounding grass. It does not look like it was moved into that location at all.

After a few moments, other Genoshan emergency personnel arrive and begin clearing away the mound. Underneath a few inches of dirt is a body, apparently a teenager, apparently male.

«Open, but do not plan to be outside until I state you're outside. In other words, "I go outside"…don't assume that works unless I'm on and say it does. If anyone wishes to know this person, PM me, and I'll let you know what you know about him.»

"…Huh?"

Pester stands near the window and watches what's going on. What made Kitty cry?

Darya wakes up early morning oblivious.

She slams the alarm clock.

Right, have to go to today.

She goes to the bathroom and brushes her teeth still half-asleep.

Upon closer Pester inspection, there is what appears to be a letter or long note in one of Kitty's hands. Because of the way she was standing, it wasn't previously obvious.

"What's going on out there?"

I poke in the room Pester and Kitty are in. I've been up all night, of course.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 9:06pm

"Hmmm…"

Pester looks around. Upon seeing that nobody is around… He tries reading Kitty's mind…

It doesn't work. He can tell that she's sad. That's about it.

Upon that, he decides to carefully open the door, carefully walk to Colossus, and carefully ask him what happened. The carefulness is an attempt to bring some tact into the situation. He lives in this place, and it's his right to know what goes on there, he kind of sort of feels.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by doodleboy on Jan 15, 2008, 9:07pm

She starts preparing to leave. Guns left behind, earphones on. She'll probably grab a quick bite in the fridge before leaving, maybe some coffee.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 9:07pm

Pester takes his hand off the doorknob when he hears Nephy's voice.

"I dunno. Looks like somebody… Uhm… Died."

«They're in the dining room, Kitty is in the yard.»

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 9:08pm

«It's cool. You can step outside.»

Colossus walks up to the door and puts a big hand out to stop Pester.

"This is not a place for students. Apologies."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by sam on Jan 15, 2008, 9:09pm

"Died?"

I step into the room, which is the room Pester is in since Kitty is in the yard.

"Who?!"

Sara pokes in wearing her night shirt and yawning.

"Coffee?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by doodleboy on Jan 15, 2008, 9:12pm

Finally Darya gets to the kitchen, about to leave. Perplexed, she takes off her headphones.

"What's with the crowd?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 9:13pm

"Oh. Okay."

Pester stops advancing into the yard. Because who in their right mind is going to argue with Colossus?

He turns and walks back in. "I don't know. I don't recognize him. He was inside a big clump of dirt…"

"Ok, you can stop yelling now."

Rubbing her head.

"Somebody buried?"

"Oh I'm sorry Miss Nephrahim, I'll just go fight Colossus to get information, just to please you. Colossus. Co-Freaking-Lossus."

I mean, it's Colossus.

«As I said, if anyone wants to know/recognize the victim (you can see him from the window), let me know. I'll PM you details, because I've worked out how MOST people would know him, and it varies with each character.»

« Uh, if there's soemthing connecting him or her to Nephy, feel free to just send the PM Havy. »

"Go!"

No sarcasim decteror when she's afraid one of her friends might be dead.

Re: Buried «The first official event»

Pester takes a closer look, as he waits for PMs to make their way through the system.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by doodleboy on Jan 15, 2008, 9:17pm

Darya looks out the window.

"… Fuck…"

That's all she says.

She's reminded of another mutant that died. The Stryker kid…

Re: Buried «The first official event»

"What are we all standing around for?" I ask, creeping up from behind.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by doodleboy on Jan 15, 2008, 9:22pm

Darya turned to Colossus.

"Mind telling us who the hell died, metal-man? Or are you just going to stand around there useless?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 9:23pm

Colossus sighs.

"Apologies, but we have to do investigation more fully first. A general announcement will happen later."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by doodleboy on Jan 15, 2008, 9:24pm

"Oh, so you're opting for standing around there useless."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 9:24pm

Quote:"What are we all standing around for?" I ask, creeping up from behind.

"Somebody died… We're all standing around for that."

That's about all the information Pester has at the moment. He really didn't have much to say about the guy, after only dealing with him once.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by sam on Jan 15, 2008, 9:25pm

"Oh… I know who that is."

I THINK he's in my class…

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 9:25pm

"Yes Darya. I am standing around useless. As useless as I was when my sister died. After death, even the strongest of us are useless. If you just wait, we will have more information later."

Colossus continues to block anyone trying to leave.

Re: Buried «The first official event»

"A shame. We must avenge the fallen if his death was a result of betrayal or outside influence."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 9:27pm

«Offline for a while, but just assume Colossus prevents anyone from leaving…I think he's pretty decent at that.»

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 9:27pm

Pester does not argue with Orchestra. Instead, he sighs heavily.

Not over the death, though. That's pretty depressing, but he was really hoping Colossus would throw Darya through a few walls.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by doodleboy on Jan 15, 2008, 9:27pm

"You're not the only one who has dead family, buddy."

Looking out the window, contemplating just unraveling her form and slinking out.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by deia on Jan 15, 2008, 9:34pm

"Bickering will accomplish nothing, Darya."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by doodleboy on Jan 15, 2008, 9:36pm

"Yes… yes…"

Still looking out. Then she quietly decides to leave. Even after death, life goes on. Probably going be a little late, but things considered…

She heads out a different exit.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 10:04pm

"I would also like to figure out what the hell happened here… Seems like our business."

Ah well.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 10:07pm

«Other exits are fine.»

The body is placed in a bag and carted off, and Colossus, after talking with Kitty, walks into the kitchen and pours himself a very strong coffee, switching back to human form.

"Apologies for disruption. This situation is still under investigation. However, I have been asked to inform all of you that if you wish to seek counseling after witnessing this tragedy, it will be made available to you."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 10:13pm

"Ah. Well, that's good. For people."

For everyone else, maybe. Long as it's not mandatory.

"…It's not mandatory, is it?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by sam on Jan 15, 2008, 10:15pm

"… I still can't remmber his name. Was it Ben?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 10:16pm

"It is not mandatory."

Colossus begins to drink his coffee. Kitty walks in, still crying, holding a letter in her hand, and keeps walking. Colossus follows her with his eyes for a moment, then sighs.

"I believe I am required elsewhere. Party line is great tragedy, young student, suicide. Does not completely fit to me. However, party line is suicide."

He begins to walk off with his coffee, pausing the briefest of instants for any quick follow-up questions.

Responding to Nephy in the middle of that: "No, his name was Barry Goodrich. That is not official information yet."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 10:17pm

"I talked to the guy once."

He made fun of my powers, and said I shouldn't be on a field team.

"Seemed like a nice guy."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 10:19pm

"…Party line?"

Is that some kind of Russian euphamism?

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by havok3595 on Jan 15, 2008, 10:20pm

"There are the things we are supposed to say as staff, and the things we feel as friends and mentors, Pester. The Party Line is the first."

Then he walks off.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by noodles on Jan 15, 2008, 10:25pm

I could have sworn party lines were for phone sex. Not that I'm going to mention that here.

"Well, there we go then."

Pester goes to the fridge.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by sam on Jan 15, 2008, 10:40pm

"I think he means the public line. From when Russia was comunist, they'd call the information they told the masses the 'party line."

"That's what it's called when somebody ceases their own bodily functions."

That's the way to put it. Nice and sterile.

"I understand what suicide is, but I believe my people handled it different than your own. In my home suicide was only committed by those who were unable to attain a death in honorable combat, I take it that is not the case here.

Why would someone take their own life?"

Kelly walks into the room, having come in to get some milk. Because everyone knows you have to start your day with a tall glass of warm milk.

"Hi, guys!"

Obviously, their depressed expressions are more than slightly noticeable.

"Geez, who died?" Kelly asks jokingly. A beat passes, and their expressions don't change.

"Oh my gosh, who died?" she asks more seriously this time.

Re: Buried «The first official event»

Dom says, "Apparently that guy. He looks familar. He from the school?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»

"Oh, gosh… so someone actually died? Remind me to never ask that jokingly again… what guy?" Kelly asks. Since the body's been put in a bag and carried away. I think. My memory is annoying.

Re: Buried «The first official event»

"No," Kelly shakes her head slightly. "I mean who is he?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»

"Oh. So- so we just- how did he die?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by skitch on Jan 16, 2008, 10:18am

"Josh said it was a suicide. But it could have been an accident. He had ground-related powers. He was admitted because he got his own hand stuck in the ground."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by star on Jan 16, 2008, 10:20am

"Suicide?" Kelly's eyes widen slightly. "That's terrible! Why- why would anyone want to—" she sits down. "Oh. Oh, my…." she blinks at hearing about his powers. "Ground related? Were- were they particularly powerful?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by skitch on Jan 16, 2008, 10:24am

Dom says quietly, "Suicide seems like a quick fix for some people. Someone gets depressed enough, the idea just pops into their head, and some people just take it as the easy way out. Problem is, once you've done it, you can't take it back."

Dom's very happy for the momentary change in topic, "Not really. He could pretty much just move dirt only a few inches under the ground."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by deathchicken on Jan 16, 2008, 10:25am

"I have absolutely no comment on that subject."

Wreck walks in, sits down and stares at nothing, resting his chin on his fist.

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by star on Jan 16, 2008, 10:26am

"I can't- they wouldn't—" Kelly's hand moves to cover her mouth as she tries to understand someone even considering that, let alone actually committing suicide. She, too, is relieved by the topic change. Well… in one way. Less so, in others….

"Wait… wait, not Barry…?"

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by skitch on Jan 16, 2008, 10:29am

Dom looks at Wreck, "Yeah, the less said about that the better. For all of us, I think."

Dom shrugs, "Could be. Never got his name, sorry. I work with several patients as is, and he wasn't on my service."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by star on Jan 16, 2008, 10:32am

Kelly considers it for a second. Literally just a second. Maybe less.

"N- no, it couldn't have been. He'd never commit suicide. I mean… he's the only person I know with powers like that — I suggested him a couple of times for the field team — but he… he would never… no; it wasn't him."

Re: Buried «The first official event»

Dom said, "Uhm…I thought Roxie could do just about the same things."

Re: Buried «The first official event»
Post by star on Jan 16, 2008, 10:35am

"Yes. But Roxie can do more. Not, um… not to be mean or anything, but Barry's powers aren't very, um… useful. He can only sink things into the ground by a couple of inches. But he's so determined to get on the team, and he's really nice, and he wanted me to put in a good word for him… well, a couple of good words, so…."

Re: Buried «The first official event»

"And he didn't give you any indication that he'd want to do anything like this. Right?"

"No! Not at all! He wouldn't have done this, ever! He's the last person who would! He was so eager, and funny, and- and optimistic, too! They kept on turning him down for the team, and he didn't ever even get slightly upset - it even made him try harder! That's- he was way too optimistic for something like this!"
