Agents of SHIELD
Post by Meisha "Muse" Aisha on Sept 20, 2007, 7:52am

That is, essentially, the position the Hellions have found themselves in. They have agreed to a draft to SHIELD in return for the list of charges against them being dropped; and before they left, Maria Hill wanted to present them herself.

Probably out of spite.

She's called the Hellions back into the base, to a far tidier, more sensible quarters within it; presumably her office.

"Heil Hydra. Cut off one head and a new one shall…..whoops, that isn't you guys, is it? Swear, Hill, once you took charge of this place it was hard to tell the difference."

"Yes, you're hilarious," Hill responds irately. "And now you answer to me, on some levels. That should be fun for all of us, shouldn't it?"

Her hand falls on the boxes on the table in front of her, sliding the one labelled 'Jason; Wreck' over to Wreck.

"Welcome to SHIELD. I'd finish that sentence, but 'Agent Wreck' just sounds ridiculous."

"Well mommy, if you want to give me the last name I've been missing for 17 years, go right ahead."

He thumbs through the box.

"….and don't forget, this was all your bright idea. So any misery on your end is your fault."

The contents of the box are simple; Wreck's SHIELD uniform. For him to wear on the mission and while on the job, if and when the Hellions are called in.

"I think it'll be pretty satisfying, having you malcontents under my jurisdiction." She pauses and purses her lips.

"That said, you're impressive malcontents who avoided SHIELD for several months; you're definitely worth your salt. On that note, welcome on board, and I hope you continue to be as impressive."

"Never mind that you made us be malcontents. The alternative was Gitmo."

Wreck pulls out the uniform and holds it up.

"…..I was half-expecting a yellow beekeeper suit. Keep on disappointing me."

"Quit the jokes. Seriously, you're awful at it," she says, sliding him his badge.

"Just wait. I'm sure there are twelve other terrorist organizations I could compare SHIELD to. They're only slipping my mind right now."

Picking up the badge, Wreck smirks at it.

"Terrorists accusing innocent kids of being terrorists, then hiring them to join their terrorist unit in exchange for knocking it off. I've changed my mind. You're a bad sitcom."

"Mm? So I assume you're not interested in the apprehension of 'Prometheus'. 'Terrorists'," she scoffs. "You need to find yourself a dictionary, boy."

"Harmful acts perpetrated against civilians…in other words, us, before you started chasing us, for the furthering of a political goal. That's you, lady."

He shakes his head.

"And what about them? You seemed more interested in chasing us than, y'know…..going after the guys who were REALLY responsible for it all."

"At what point did you become all-seeing, hm? If we didn't have any interest in catching them, how would we have got Frost?"

She leaves out the part where, instead of eradicating Prometheus, they've just been pushed under her thumb.

"When I started talking to a demonic skull that was omniscient. Duh. Ask a stupid question next time."

"You have an omniscient demonic skull?" she asks disbelievingly.

"Oh, wouldn't you like to know? Before you form yet another task force of criminals to go hunt it down and get the torture chamber ready for me, I'll just tell you that I don't have it anymore. It's gone. Dead. Starved to death. I killed it by not feeding it souls."

He glances away.

"I think."

She nods her head cynically.

"I think you're certifiably insane. We'll prepare a psych evaluation for you." Her eyes slide off of him, onto the next person.

Guess who the next person is?

"Problem with becoming your soldier boy - I've got business out of the country."

"Fine," Hill responds brusquely. "Then we'll only call you up after the resolution of the satellite situation if it's an emergency."

She pushes him the box with his name on it as well as his badge.

"Welcome to SHIELD, Agent Baptiste."

Re: Agents of SHIELD

"Right." I say taking the box and badge and staring at it. "Maybe, just maybe, the day will come where I'm proud to have been conscripted."

Re: Agents of SHIELD
Post by Risk on Sept 21, 2007, 9:35am

Hill rubs her temples and glances up at him.

"Yes, we don't like each other, obviously. But what happened between the Hellions and SHIELD was a misunderstanding. An extensive misunderstanding, one that went on for far too long, and even took on a life of its own when Stark involved himself, but it was a misunderstanding all the same."

Re: Agents of SHIELD
Post by Alexander "Cadmus" Baptiste on Sept 21, 2007, 9:41am

"Yes. Sure. Misunderstanding, ineptitude, whatever." I say abesentmindedly, running a hand through my hair. My body is still present, but my mind and heart already long gone. "Though I'm sure that you realize that slapping a bright red 'Misunderstanding' sticker on the experience in no way changes the facts of what happened."

Re: Agents of SHIELD
Post by Risk on Sept 21, 2007, 9:45am

"The fact of what happened is that a town went up, and there was no way of knowing that it was a town of anything less than regular, real people; the only thing that survived it was your team. That invites investigation- investigation that you ran from. Running incites guilt, for which we needed to apprehend you, if only for questioning. Our manpower was split through several supernatural uprisings that a good deal of our force had to deal with, so we brought in outside force. Our actions weren't the only ones that were questionable."

Hill sighs, takes a seat and tents her fingers.

"As soon as we got another lead, we split the forces we had, went after both things and crushed Prometheus. We dropped off of your tail then, until baiting you here; this whole thing still had to be resolved. Say what you will, but we did everything right, and got those who're at fault. And we've given your team another avenue to do what you do from, with greater resources.

Kelly walks up to the table, glances at the boxes, and then at Hill.

"You're not going to start some sanctimonious, self-righteous diatribe too, are you, little girl?"

Kelly remains silent, very blank faced.

"Good girl." Hill passes Kelly the box with her uniform in and her badge.

"Welcome to SHIELD, Agent Thorley."

Kelly picks up the badge and looks at it for a second, still silent. After a few moments, she finally speaks.

"You know… I know you're just trying to do what's best, what's going to help people, keep peace. All of that. I do. But as a person? As a person, you're a really, really horrible woman." Kelly looks up from the badge, at Hill, studying Hill's very unimpressed expression.

"You have the impression I care?" Hill responds brusquely.

"No. And that's the problem." Kelly picks up the box and walks out.
